I was looking for a new ukulele to purchase and had gone to the other music stores in the area but something told me to check this one out as well and I’m so glad I did! the man working in there was so helpful and friendly he helped me pick out my dream ukulele and I couldn’t be any happier! I even shed a tear! thank you so much Music Exchange you guys are the bomb!
I am new to the Island and wanted to pick up a ukulele as something to play around with. The clerk was attentive and helped me for over 30 minutes to choose the right one for me. He gave me tips, advice and encouragement. . I would recommend this shop to anyone looking for a reasonably priced instrument, and expert guidance!
Bought my daughter a ukulele and had a lot of help narrowing the selection down. I can’t separate her now from her new guitar!

These guys usually have what I need and their prices are reasonable. Great repair shop as well.
Friendly and knowledgeable service
I’ve been here twice. The first time I stood off to the side, but in view of the clerk. I stood there for at least 15 minutes, while 2 different customers were attended to. I wasn’t even spoken to.
The next time I went in to buy some finger picks. I was spoken to, or maybe grunted at, while the attendant restrung an electric guitar.
I’ve had enough.
Service was awful acted like I bothered them by asking questions about ukulele. I will buy somewhere else.
Waited outside patiently for 30 minutes during an employee break. When the employee opened the shop again he told us to leave as soon as we stepped in. Giving no explanation, just saying “goodbye”.

Lovely store with a kind man who definitely knows what he’s talking about and can help with music needs on the spot. Kind service and repairs with beautiful inventory of high-end and inexpensive quality ukuleles, guitars, strings, T-shirts, and even beautiful art pieces. No need to go anywhere else.
Friendly well stocked music store with great guitar/bass/ukulele repair and maintenance tech, lots of cool instruments, supplies and local art. Good selection of used instruments and they’ll sell yours on consignment! One of the best music stores anywhere, right in my neighborhood.
Wonderful people and great service. Great selection of fine instruments. Instant connection and made me want to come back and I live in Dallas TX. So glad I stopped in. Thanks Gunner and crew.✌️❤️
Spent $20 on gas to arrive 30 minutes before close and found out they were already closed….an update on hours would be appreciated.
4. Big Island Guitars and Music Supply

this is without a doubt THE BEST guitar shop I’ve ever been to. the owners are so incredibly kind and knowledgeable and really just want to help you with anything you bring to them. honest. efficient. patient. nothing but 5 star experiences every time you walk through the doors. theres really no where else I would like to take my business.
Knowledgeable, friendly and matter of fact. Love this quaint and authentic store!
Walked in on a whim today and met a great guy selling guitars at awesome prices. I have been to a few shops on the island and was underwhelmed with the service I received. Today I was absolutely blown away by how awesome Spencer was. I didn’t buy anything today because I didn’t plan on being there, but when I do I will only shop here.
Spencer is a very personable individual who is very knowledgeable. The store itself is quaint and stock can be limited but it has pretty much everything that’s needed in general.
Drove an hour , website said open, answering service said open, closed during advertised business hours.
5. Hawaiian ʻUkulele And Guitar
Address: 212 Kamehameha Ave, Hilo, HI 96720 , Pāhala , Hawaii , United States
Wandered in looking for an ukelele for my son and ended up staying for over an hour chatting. Uncle offered us an honest opinion on which uke to buy and gave ME an impromptu lesson. I learned more in the thirty mins with him a than I’ve learned in the last few months of playing. What a gem. The store and owners. We stopped back once more before we left the island and will be back next time we’re here.
Excellent collection of custom instruments, very friendly and helpful owners.
A fantastic selection of guitars and ukuleles at reasonable prices.
While I didn’t buy anything here, the staff are amazingly nice people and let me try any instrument I wanted. As for COVID precautions, you must wear a mask inside and use hand sanitizer before touching any guitar.
It’s a nice place and they have good quality.
This is a nice store with a knowledgeable and fun owner. Because of the prime location expect to pay retail prices. You can find cheaper prices if you shop around. I bought from him because he engaged my son and made it fun.
Unfortunately I can’t give 5 stars because the owner was unavailable to give lessons. He said he’s too busy and looking for a teacher, so things may change. I ended up taking my kids 2 blocks away to Hilo Ukulele and Guitar. Rick there gave the kids low priced lessons and threw some discounts for merchandise.
I guess if that store wasn’t available, I’d give this place a 5 star review. But competition does exist, which is great, so a solid 4 stars from me.
