Inspiring shop for music lovers and very friendly staff ❤️.
Nagyon kedves és vicces a tulajdonos. Megmutat mindent és nagyon profin játszik. Gitárosoknak egy remek hely, hogy ismerkedjenek a vilag legcukibb hangú hangszerével az Ukulelével. 🙂
I was visiting the big island and wanted to buy a ukulele in Hawaii. I went to a music shop in Kona and they didn’t really seem interested in helping a tourist. When I was Hilo, I went to Hawaiian Ukulele And Guitar and Uncle Uke was very nice. He taught me four simple chords and showed me the beginning soprano and concert ukuleles in my price range. I was able to try both types and found the one that fit me. It was a very nice experience and I would recommend this music shop. FYI, the tourist couple after me asked for a ‘Made In Hawaii’ ukulele and Uncle Uke was very nice and told them they range from $800+.
It’s a nice place and they have good quality.
This is a nice store with a knowledgeable and fun owner. Because of the prime location expect to pay retail prices. You can find cheaper prices if you shop around. I bought from him because he engaged my son and made it fun.
Unfortunately I can’t give 5 stars because the owner was unavailable to give lessons. He said he’s too busy and looking for a teacher, so things may change. I ended up taking my kids 2 blocks away to Hilo Ukulele and Guitar. Rick there gave the kids low priced lessons and threw some discounts for merchandise.
I guess if that store wasn’t available, I’d give this place a 5 star review. But competition does exist, which is great, so a solid 4 stars from me.

I absolutely love Spencer and his lovely wife Laura. Every time I go in, I am treated like family. I e had a few repairs to ‘black beaty’ and made a few purchases, always at super reasonable prices. Keep it up guys. I look forward to a jam sesh one day
this is without a doubt THE BEST guitar shop I’ve ever been to. the owners are so incredibly kind and knowledgeable and really just want to help you with anything you bring to them. honest. efficient. patient. nothing but 5 star experiences every time you walk through the doors. theres really no where else I would like to take my business.
Spencer is a very personable individual who is very knowledgeable. The store itself is quaint and stock can be limited but it has pretty much everything that’s needed in general.
Drove an hour , website said open, answering service said open, closed during advertised business hours.
Larry is extremely knowledgable, experienced and detail oriented. He made an incredible set of pickups for my guitar with custom string spacing and matching wood covers. They sound amazing!
Larry Pollack makes Custom High Quality Guitar ans Bass Pickups with true Fidelity!!! Thank you!!! Larry for being Awesome!!!!
Great products to tune your instrument and buy a new one. Great atmosphere, cool people.

Great place true to her word on damage replacement
Irene was a joy to work with! She has an extensive Ukulele selection with reasonable prices. Agasa has the best selection of Ukes on the island. I tried numerous stores in Kona & in Hilo too – none had the stock of ukes that Irene does at Agasa. I found exactly what I needed, and at a good price. The store has a friendly vibe too, and Irene is knowledgeable about her Ukuleles.
picked up school instruments
Went in to shop local, bought an item to be shipped to our daughter for her birthday, paid for FedEx the lady boxed it up saying it would go out the next day in time for our daughters birthday in 5 days. They put it back up and dropped shipped from California UPS, still not delivered over a week later. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE 1
Yesterday, I was sexually harassed at Agasa Furniture & Music Store in downtown Hilo. I was wearing a t-shirt with “Reach for the Stars” splashed across the front, and one of the customers said “reach for the stars” and made hand gestures as though he were squeezing my breasts. The manager, Irene, looked horrified, rolled her eyes, and walked away. Another store employee who had been talking with the customer just laughed and laughed.
Stunned, I left, did my errands, and returned to talk to the manager. She apologized profusely, but said she had to be careful with how she spoke to the customer since he spends a lot of money there.
I’m not sure about the quality of their products and services, but apparently if you spend enough money there, you can sexually harass the women in the store for free.
Shop looks nice and people are quite friendly, but unfortunately i experienced very poor customer service on an attempted ukulele repair. i have since gone to Rogers Guitars in Keaau for ukulele repairs and had an exceptional experience.
9. KukuAu Studio
Address: 43 Kukuau St, Hilo, HI 96720 , Pāpa‘ikou , Hawaii , United States
We were astounded by the talent of the musicians at the Monday night jamb! A fabulous evening shared by people of all ages. The highest recommendation & greatest respect.
A nice intimate stage for a wide verity of entertainment from jaz to poetry slam to music to theater . Check it out
There is no where on this Island that i can think of where you have the privilege and pleasure to sing with a full live Jazz band! Crazy good musicians, super talented, and wonderfully welcoming, I cant wait to go back next Monday!
Kukuau Studios is not chic, its funky and cool! The best evening in Hilo is to be experienced every Monday from 6pm til 9 pm at the weekly Jazz Jam! Bub and the jazz jam regulars perform called toons with a full small combo. Got yer ax? Call a tune or just sit in! No cover, all ages, donations accepted. Bring your dancin shoes!!
If you are looking for the funkiest, most eclectic dive bar in town, this is it!! No real seating downstairs as this joint is all about the players. It’s their jam and you are welcome to sit upstairs and eavesdrop. A great place to people watch as it is clear lots of locals come.
Some competent playing but some real wandering wankery too – hey, it’s jazz! We left after the 4th song as it’s not really our scene.
By donation, $5.00 drinks.
Maybe I just caught this place on a bad night, but it didn’t leave a good impression. I love supporting local music and hate to leave a bad review, but wanted to caution anyone considering performing here. I went to an open mic here last night and the owner was very unwelcoming to some of the musicians, making snarky comments and almost skipped over some of the performers, even though it seemed that everyone had signed up in advance and there was a schedule for when each person would perform.. The place was set up really cute and I wanted to enjoy it, but I can’t watch someone being unkind and not say something.
One of the especially uncomfortable moments was when a gentleman came onstage with an acoustic bass and the owner (who also handles the sound) seemed to purposely ruin the sound for his performance. I’m not a sound person but it was really obvious to the whole audience. At first there was too much treble, so the musician asked if they could turn down the treble, and the owner turned it WAY up and then turned away and started talking to his friends while the musician tried to play an instrument that didn’t sound like an instrument over the speakers lol. He ignored the musician trying to signal to him that he needed help even though there were loud clicking sounds blaring from the speakers that everyone could hear. Eventually the person performing had to borrow a guitar from someone in the audience because the owner was not wanting to help. It gave me a yucky feeling and I was glad I didn’t sign up to play music.

Sam is an amazing engineer and a genuinely nice person. Working with him is easy, fun, and 100% stress-free. If you want high-quality sounding music or any other audio, look no further!
We’ve been a gigging band based in Hilo, Hawaii for a good number of years and this was our first time in the studio. Right away we could see that Sam at Sonic Sculpture was a pro. He was super approachable and just made everything work (and sound really good). He had all the recording gear necessary to capture our “live funk” experience in digital form. He had tons of great suggestions ranging from tone and sound to composition and instrumental interplay. He even knew exactly when we needed to take a break after hours of grueling recording so that we could nail down one particularly complex groove. Worked like a charm. Would definitely recommend Sam at Sonic Sculpture Recording to anyone looking to document and preserve of their sonic artistry for any end use.
I spent several weeks at Iliki Studios recording my original music. The studio was excellent, and Tom is a great engineer. Highly recommended, very
Professional.
Working with Tom at Iliki studio is an absolute delight. It is my go to spot for recording on the Big Island. Tom himself is fresh and creative, and a true professional with decades of experience. His breadth of skills are many; a talented drummer, producer, and studio engineer- he’s caring, enjoyable, funny, and lively. You won’t regret doing your next project here!!!
I began working with Tom Mohbat in 1991 at his Chicago studio. His expertise, support, and encouragement over these past 30 years has enhanced all my recordings, and lifted me up in my darkest hours. He literally kept me from quitting music with his compassion, insight, and perspective. I can’t thank him enough.
If you want an engineer, producer, and advocate of the highest caliber, hire Tom Mohbat!
