Excellent in every way! Wish it was closer to my home!
It was good
The employees are gracious, courteous, and always have a smile in their faces ready to Greet you! I love this new little addition to our small town Paxton!
Ordered a large matcha latte and by the time the foam had settled it was only half that size. Really unfortunate when the drink itself costs about $6.00. Overall, the drink was good, I will most likely try another item.
The coffee is amazingly delicious. And the staff are super kind. The shop itself is so adorably decorated and very roomy & cozy.
Great little coffee spot right in the heart of downtown Paxton. The coffee drinks are lovely… the cold brew coffee is smooth! The food items are good too… I loved the strawberry streusel cake. The atmosphere is also very nice. The service is friendly, though they definitely get bogged down and wait times get very long when it gets busy – I think they need more time to hit their stride yet. It’s lovely to see more local businesses opening up in this area!
Dietary restrictions: non-dairy milk options!
Not sure if they’re having a bad day or what… usually pretty good experience here but today was the exact opposite.. can’t use the holiday as a excuse… had way too many customers waiting for their orders..maybe eliminate call in and internet orders on holidays…?
Staff is friendly atmosphere is nice coffee was disgustingly sweet
3. Redbox
Address: 755 S Railroad Ave, Paxton, IL 60957 , Paxton , Illinois , United States
Mary’s shop is AMAZING. Unique finds, super clean, and always so nicely decorated. It’s inspiring just to wander around treasure hunting! I’ve found so many sweet finds here.
Loved it. Very friendly.
Always find something ! I was in there 1 minute and found a Beautiful Hull pottery teapot ! Kathy is awesome ! Very helpful and one of the kindest people I’ve met.
Wish they were respecting COVID mask guidelines. Would be higher rating if they did. Found a cheap nice old tool to fix up.
5. The Cadillac
Address: 108 W State St, Paxton, IL 60957 , Paxton , Illinois , United States
What an awesome show tonight! I hope to see more ROCK in Paxton. The place is really nice and fast service at the bar.
Great venue excellent staff
Great show. Good layout, great service. It’s good to have something like this in the area.
Typical warehouse music venue. Very nice setup. Have to be sure you are towards front and center for good acoustics. There are some weird dips in the flooring. Poor ventilation, no noticeable fans or vents (someone was wearing very strong perfume and my throat started to close I have never had that reaction in my life). Tried to go outside for fresh air and the smoking area is very small. They charge to use a card so bring cash. There were snacks and sandwiches. I had an amazing time, I love small venues hope they continue to bring non country acts! Singer of Drowning Pool came out into the crowd
Event space is very nice, staff friendly, would prefer less intermission between opening act and main act
Weakest mixed drink I’ve ever had. Terrible
6. Thrift Shop of Paxton
Address: 110 N Market St, Paxton, IL 60957 , Paxton , Illinois , United States
This place rocks! I’ve found SO many special treasures here, amazing legit vintage clothes, ratan mirrors, gorgeous wooden frames, rare music equipment, all sorts of treasures. And they are not at all “vintage” prices, just a sweet, small town thrift store. (Bonus points – the ladies running it are cool as they come!) SUCH A GEM <3
Always something to find here, the people that work here are so nice, and the prices are always low. They provide a wonderful service for the local community!
Nice selection, decent price for the things there
The only entrance/exit to this “thrift store” is a hike up and down 20 decrepit wooden steps.
When you finally make it up to the “thrift store” you will get a half hello from the person immersed in their pushing paper job. You now have the choice of selecting room 1, 2,3 & 4. Inside these rooms you will picture yourself in the 1980’s with out of date clothes, old books and coffee cups. This place literally reminded me of happening upon an older person’s estate auction/sale late, only to find the leftover scraps. My spouse and I thought we’d find something worthwhile, but was sorely disappointed. Don’t waste your time.
7. Music Gifts Plus
Address: 111 S Poplar St, Loda, IL 60948 , Paxton , Illinois , United States
This company is so thoughtful! husband ordered string lube and they sent candy
I placed an order and received email confirmation for a clarinet advertised on the store’s website for $419.99. Four days later I get an email saying that the order was canceled and my $ was refunded. Seller went on to relist the same clarinet for $599.99. I place numerous calls to seller, left messages and never got a reply back.
8. The Music Shoppe Inc.
Address: 27 E Marketview Dr, Champaign, IL 61820 , Paxton , Illinois , United States
The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and super helpful.
We have used the music shoppe in Champaign for all three of our kids and been very happy with the quality and service. But our last experience was truly exceptional. We purchased a nice clarinet for our son. He was very happy, but it played flat. The people at the music shoppe immediately ordered a new one, but my son really liked the first one best. So they ordered a new barrel (slightly shorter) from the company for us! Definitely well above and beyond.
We will definitely continue to buy from them and encourage everyone in the area to support them as well!
Friendly staff. Awesome set up
It’s a good place for renting and buying instruments. They repair and provide loaner instruments.
Nice staff, wonderful selection, higher end of the usual price range though.
Last time I came in here I had an employee make fun of me/my instrument because it wasn’t high end (which I knew). Now that I work on my own instruments I know better than to put up with snobby musicians like the one I dealt with here. Three stars because I can’t condemn the entire establishment because of one or two rude employees.
I went in to have my saxophone serviced. The saxophone I play is pretty nice. I mentioned that I played it in marching band and the woman belittled me for playing a nice instrument in marching band. Sorry I don’t have an unlimited supply of saxophones.
Absolutely the most unprofessional shop around ! Straight garbage
I went to get my clarinet fixed and they tried to up sell me on getting all my pads fixed and thought I was a child and were annoyed I came in the store when I came to pick it up. I will not be using these services again because of the horrible service I received from the workers.
9. The Upper Bout
Address: 723 S Neil St, Champaign, IL 61820 , Paxton , Illinois , United States
In my experience, music shop staff are usually condescending and unfriendly. You get the opposite at this shop. Knowledgeable and courteous would be the best way to describe them.
The store itself is clean, great guitar selection. Basses, not so much.
Anytime I’m in the area I like to stop by and will eventually buy something. Highly recommended.
I took my prized Martin HD-28 to The Upper Bout just to have the action lowered. Andrew immediately noticed the top had suffered from dry air and told me he could re-humidify it, give the guitar a good cleaning, treat the fingerboard, put on some good quality strings, and also set the action. I was surprised to get a call a day and a half later that is was ready! It looks like a brand new guitar and plays like an absolute dream. I can’t recommend The Upper Bout enough if you truly care about your instrument.
I take lessons from one of the instructors on site and any time I have rookie guitar player questions about guitars or amps the employees and shop owner are more than willing to answer my questions and chat. Very nice and relaxed atmosphere with high quality products.
Good place to buy guitar stuff in a convenient location.
It’s kind of expensive, I paid $25 for two sets of strings when I go through them like crazy. This being the only place I buy strings nowadays I am now scared to break one!
They have loads of guitars and amps to try out, as well as mandolins, banjos and other stringed instruments, makes it a great place to learn about instruments.
I will purchase my next guitar here for sure.
Very nice store for guitar players. Not a lot of options for bass players. Store is very clean and the store has a very classy look and vibe. Very nice selection of effects pedals. I will go there again. I would like to have seen more high end 5 string basses. But, I think everyone should stop by.
Brought in a broken guitar hoping to fix it. They were quoting me 4 times the value of a new guitar to fix it and kept pushing me to just buy a new one. I ended up leaving and getting the guitar replaced elsewhere
Be forewarned! If you are anything but an accomplished or professional guitar player they may not have the time of day for you! They WILL talk down to you, and make broad assumptions of you. Without asking me any further questions, because I said I traveled a lot, had a sentimental instrument that I didn’t want to see damaged and didn’t presently have a place to store it: the assumptions changed to me being homeless and I couldn’t be pushed out of the store fast enough. Even when I asked about a simple $15 item. Oh and let’s not forget the whole the salesman is talking down to me, he grabbing expensive guitars off the wall just playing them instead of listening to my questions. Nice job Upper Bout
I put a guitar here on consignment that had a synth pickup and they straight up lost the synth. When I came in to pick up my stuff they just shrugged their shoulders like “so what?”
Food was delicious. Very nice bar. Pleasant server. Definitely will be back again.
Great people, good food.
We were recommended to try this place while at Mom & Pop’s, and the food did not disappoint!! Everything was fresh and full of flavor. The Al Pastor tacos and Oaxacan-style Tamale were our favorites. Make sure you try the Passion Fruit margaritas, it was so good! One of the best Mexican restaurants in Central Illinois! The staff was amazing and very welcoming! Definitely worth the drive!!
Going back good food
Server was great. Lots of inspiring stories to tell. I like learning about people I met when I’m traveling. I live it West, so I am spoiled in excellent Mexican quisine. While this was very tasty, and the family that runs out is authentic, I think they have had to adjust to the tested buds of eastern Illinois diners. The quisine was fabulous.
This place was rather difficult to find, as there wasn’t a sign or anything with the name of the restaurant. My waiter seemed a bit overly friendly and didn’t respect personal space at all. He also gave misinformation when I asked about the menu which resulted in my entree having no cheese or sour cream when I was told it would, then all I got was a ‘oh yeah, gee, no’. I still didn’t get any cheese or sour cream, or a less expensive price. Their iced tea was terrible. The food wasn’t good or bad, just meh. It’s better than Taco Bell, I’ll give them that.
I just picked up my order on February 27 2021. Even though I have heard good things l will take my business elsewhere. The server was wearing a mask but the person behind the bar who gave me my to go order had no mask. Not just wearing it incorrectly but NO MASK. Even if the food is good I will not be back. Also the tables are inches apart. No thank you. If they have no regard for customer safety, I will give my money to places that do.
Food was cold. Tamales were nasty. Just a bad experience.
This place is very expensive and the food service isn’t great we sat there for 30 min waiting for food
12. Old Delhi Music
Address: Contact, Urbana, IL 61802 , Paxton , Illinois , United States
This harmonium arrived safely and well packaged, which I was worried about being that harmoniums can be delicate, yet there was absolute no issue in shipping. I requested tuning to A-440 which was done expertly. The harmonium itself is absolutely beautiful with an amazing tone and incredibly sustain.
Overall, the entire process of calling Nic to order the harmonium to receiving it was seamless.
Anyone looking for a harmonium should consider Old Delhi Music as you are guaranteed to get a true top notch instrument that is sure to last for years and years to come.
I have helped arrange for the purchase of 2 harmoniums through Nic at Old Delhi Music and he has provided wonderful service. The person who received the harmonium said he could tell it was so lovingly packed and none of the keys were buzzing or sticking at all. And he said that the sound was really incredible. Thank you.
Purchased a Nascar Vilayet Khan Sitar from Nic. Received a really good solid sitar that sounds great, well made and is obviously picked by Old Delhi Music as a solid playable instrument. All of the fears I had about purchasing an instrument from India sight unseen have been allayed by the instrument I now own. Nic assured me that they do not stock instruments that have not been screened by Old Delhi and improved in their shop. My instrument testifies to that being true. I say this as a person who has been burned in the past with purchases of middle Eastern instruments that have become unplayable with the progression of time or worse, have been inferior instruments incapable of rendering the sounds you hope to hear. While Nic Is known as primarily as an harmonium specialist, I would not hesitate to purchase a sitar from Old Delhi. I truly believe that they will not stock instruments that are not solid, well made playable solid instruments.
I received a faulty instrument from these people and when I asked to return it they denied my request. Even though it was kept in a hard case which I also purchased from them. They were entirely at fault and chose to steal from me instead of being accountable.
NEVER BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE. They will steal if given the chance.
13. Monical’s Pizza
Address: 500 Ottawa Rd, Paxton, IL 60957 , Paxton , Illinois , United States
La pizza deliciosa y las alitas muy sabrosas ellos son un poco serios pero el servicio fue bueno a secas pero la comida vale la pena regresar
Had to wait longer than expected for waitress to take our order. Pizza good as always
It’s clean and the service was good.
I usually never rate places (I like to give a place a few trys before I judge) but I can’t let this go anymore. Paxton Monicals is by far the worse location I’ve been to and I’ve been to many, many locations in Illinois and Indiana. I grew up on Monicals and I think it’s horribly expensive but I will gladly pay the price because I love it. Paxton has dropped the ball so many times that I can’t even recall all the issues. I do however remember the issue of cheating people out of toppings. You already have a pizza that can’t handle many toppings, BUT 6 black olives, 5 little dices of onion that I forgot I ordered because of such a small amount, mushrooms barely there. Sausage only on a few pieces. I will post my picture. Don’t worry you will know exactly which one is mine based off my description… Save yourself the frustration and disappointment and drive a few miles in any direction and enjoy a much better quality pizza.
Not a single staff person there was wearing a mask. Not even the people cooking food.Have they somehow not heard of the covid pandemic?Seems unlikely. I guess they just don’t care.
I think they need to wear hair nets. One hair ok but several. Come on now people get a new prep in there. Never order there again. I will spend the extra money and go acrossed the street.
