We called in search of a cleaning kit for my son’s instrument. They were more then helpful on the phone holding the last kit they had in stock for us until we got there from out of town. They were very courteous and help when we arrived and made our experience quick and easy. It was worth our drive. Thank you so much!
Don knows his stuff. We bought many instruments from him and he is a great guy and cares about his customers.
Gd selection
4. Byassee Music and Sound
Address: 521 W Main St, Marion, IL 62959 , Payson , Illinois , United States
New management is great, prices are good and the staff is always helpful. They have been a very good asset for our church and our PA system. They also have some great teachers for students of various instruments.
Always a great experience! Top class customer service.
It is an excellent music store with almost anything you need for almost any instrument.
Very friendly and helpful. Nice to still have a brick and mortar music store in the area.
Really nice people, just very overpriced
Best place ever to me
They sold me a violin for 2,000 and when I had it appraised the specialist said they cost $100 for a set of three. I will never do business with them again and I urge anyone to go elsewhere
5. Capital City Music
Address: 3700 Wabash Ave, Springfield, IL 62711 , Payson , Illinois , United States
Always awesome and friendly .. my daughters love their piano instructor isaac
Friendly staff, lots to choose from…
Good store for all your music needs. Good selection and prices.
I primarily look in the guitar/bass section, but good selection of instruments and helpful staff.
Great music shoppe with a great and large selection of guitars!!!
I hate doing this because I want to like music stores but if service is gonna be like this, everyone myswell DIY at home and heed this warning. I’ve had a few guitars setup there which is what I’m always needing done, new guitars etc, well I happen to be changing the strings on my Chapman that I had setup there and the low E saddle of the Floyd Rose came loose and the saddle screw fell out and that’s strange as you tighten them down. Well here’s what I discovered. Either dude lost the original saddle screw or he broke it somehow, but sitting in place of the original saddle screw is a too small saddle screw from a different bridge! It had been set in there and the string was tightened until it held the saddle in place! Like magic no screwing required! This guaranteed that as soon as the string tension came loose the saddle and screw would come loose every time NOT like it’s supposed to. Soooo sad service especially since luckily here at home I have many of those saddle screws laying around. It would have been better service to call me/order the correct part than to wait for me to get home figure out that I have the wrong part and have to deal with it myself. Smh.
I’ve been to a lot of music stores, and let me tell ya, avoid the this at all costs. Prices are High, equipment is below average, and the customer service is a joke. If you don’t mind paying top prices for sub standard gear and having to staff look down at you like you owe them something well this is the place for you . Two thumbs down
The guest experience was alright, but after going in, and returning my item the staff took my return and assured me it was completed, I left and enjoyed the day, more than a week later and I have discovered the staff I talked to must have processed my return improperly since I have never received my refund on my bank statement and when I tried to call in to get the situation corrected I was told they could not find my transaction. Edit… The owner has personally reached out to me and has worked to correct the situation.
went to get my guitar set up and it came back out of tune, disappointed to say the least, reading other reviews it appears the staff might need more technical experience or organization
6. Flores Music
Address: 3831 N Sheridan Rd, Peoria, IL 61614 , Payson , Illinois , United States
Great Selection! Great Staff! Very helpful when needed! 5 Stars!
Great shop. The owners take their time with you and there’s zero sale pressure. In fact, they actually encourage you to take an instrument down and plug it in. Cool vibe in the store.
Great work on all my guitars, been going here since I was a kid.Much Love for Flores Music. Thanks everybody at Flores Music for being a big part of my life!
It was awesome na Kevin Gray Is such a good drum teacher
Nice music store.
Pros: I just moved here and was told by a guitar center employee that Flores music down the road has the best guy around to diagnose a problem I have with my very expensive guitar. Three shops had tried and failed at this point. I wish I could remember the technicians name; it started with a “j” I know, he takes one look at the guitar and checks a couple things. He then tells me that the problem is easily fixed. I tell him I’ve heard that before. But while I waited he fixed the buzzing problem and even corrected a couple other things that were bad. I’ve never had a guitar play this well ever! The con is when I was done thanking the savior of my taylor guitar a man from the store got mad at me for peeking my head in the shop to talk to the technician who I am trusting with my guitar. Sorry Flores music for bothering you with my business. Great repairs and lousy customer relations.
Last year my son was supposed to be getting a pretty nice Fender Telecaster, which they said would be held on to for us until we saved up enough money for it. However, they ended up selling it to someone else. I will never step foot in this store again.
WENT HERE WITH MY MOM AND DAUGHTER , people act like they are too busy to help paying customers that have been a customer for years . SHOP AT SWEETWATER , OR SAM ASH THEY Treat you like customers not trash !! Family is done shopping here endnof story you should too this place is NO GOOD THUMBS DOWN !!
Ripped off a 15 year old gave him 250$ for a 700$ guitar that was 3 months old would never go here for anything, also had a les paul fretboard gauged and fixed here done terribly wrong it buzzed at most lower frets dunno how they are still in business besides the fact they are the only ones with mesa boogie
7. Wagner Piano Service
Address: 4111 S 46th St, Quincy, IL 62305 , Payson , Illinois , United States
The go-to spot for your band student and for sheet music; take advantage of their years of knowledge and experience for music lessons.
My daughter needed a violin for lessons at her school. Everything was super easy and I love the affordable payment plans for a mom like me that’s on a budget.
I rented a trumpet from here for my son during the 21-22 school year. It was easy to sign up and pay online and a rep dropped it off at his school. Recently, something happened to the valves and they picked it up, had it fixed and back to the school in a day! Impressive. I chatted with a rep about returning the trumpet as my son may not be in band next year. The return was quick and easy and they are even going to pick it up from his school. I love the simplicity of everything and will definitely rent from here again if my son decides to join band again.
Friendly staff and had just what I was looking for
Friendly and helpful staff!
The store is pretty good. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They take the time to help you find what you are looking for, whether it’s sheet music, instruments, or accessories. They also offer lessons with some great teachers.
Have issues taking money off cards don’t say why just say sorry we can’t help
9. Mayberry Music & Sound
Address: 301 E Broad St, Jonesboro, IL 62952 , Payson , Illinois , United States
Always a pleasure to go to Mayberry Music. Plenty of instruments & great folks to talk to.
The only place I’ll buy music equipment. Great people, very knowledgeable.
Great music store!!! Top notch
I really enjoyed the customer service. Employees were really helpful and professional
Buy guitars and strings there sometime.
I am definitely a fan of Mayberry Music And Sound. As a banjo player, I do want to say that they are quite a bit over priced on their banjos and their banjos are not set up correctly. So I would not recommend getting a banjo set up there. Other than that, they are very good if your buyingan instrument from them.
I brought in a new guitar for warranty work, as they are a licensed dealer of this particular brand. They refused to perform the work because it “wasn’t worth the headache”. This was a guitar that I ordered thru them. I’ll take my business elsewhere, and you’d be well advised to do the same.
Really bad customer service and overpriced.
Mayberry is all you could ask for except a good customer experience. Massive selection but all prices are at the higher end and there is very little wiggle room even when trading up. You may find what you need but if you’re looking for some good conversation and a great shopping experience look elsewhere.
The employees here are very satisfied with themselves and have a “cork sniffer” vibe from their precious pedestals. They are all too happy to correct you when talking about instruments and there is a complete lack of a warm one-on-one personal experience. With Amazon’s prices there’s little reason to go here unless you can’t wait or need something immediately.
I have been consistently disappointed with the attitude of and experience from Mayberry’s over the years and recommend taking an extra thirty minutes to go elsewhere or use it as a showroom to purchase on Amazon. It’s just not a very fun experience and fun and music shops I thought were supposed to go hand in hand.
10. Walmart Supercenter
Address: 5211 Broadway St, Quincy, IL 62305 , Payson , Illinois , United States
Associates were kind and asked if I needed any help finding anything
Walked in and used the self checkouts in and out in less than two minutes.
Overall not too bad! Store wasn’t the cleanest but there were employee’s everywhere to answer your questions and help you find things which is better than some other stores. Employee’s were friendly and shelves were well stocked! Parking lot was very rough with lots of pot-holes and things of that nature but other than that, the store was conveniently located and I will probably return!
Disorganized and cluttered
Good reasonable prices prices the pensioner can afford and has selection of goods to choose from ,caution where u sign up for a cell phone ,there is a lady there with an attitude problem a big lady
Sad…most of the employees are to busy to help…….but thanks to Ivana….that is a helpful employee!!!knew what n where!!!
Rude employees! Star was a mess and needed cleaned. The staff needs to be customer friendly.
Typical shitshow walmart. No eployees to be found. Way to go. Wound up ordering my game from amazon instead of standing around waiting
11. The Music Shoppe Inc.
Address: 27 E Marketview Dr, Champaign, IL 61820 , Payson , Illinois , United States
We have been with The Music Shoppe for about four years now! Now we are using them again for our third child! He wants to play the drums. Oh man, if you look into drums, I mean good drums that can grow with a child, you pay out of pocket so much up front. You are also praying you get a decent set. On a whim I reached out to The Music Shoppe. We have a French Horn we LOVE for our first child. I asked if they had drums, good drums. Ryan was fantastic at answering all of my millions of questions! We were able to finance an AMAZING SET AND get it the next week!!! Kurtis was AWESOME at working with me to deliver it to the school! Again Kurtis and Ryan were FANTASTIC at answering my questions about setting it up! I just love how they have treated our family through the years. I highly recommend The Music Shoppe to anyone with a child in music or any music question in general. They are eager to help!
Such great service! Their in-store selection is amazing, but if they don’t have it, they can get it. They’ll help you choose the right product, get it to you fast, and the price will be competitive. Sure, you could find it on Amazon, but The Music Shoppe will get it for you, make sure it’s exactly what you needed, inspect it for quality and provide ongoing help and service if needed. They’ve got our business for sure.
The Music Shoppe has always provided quality service. We have purchased one instrument from them, but had other instruments serviced. They have knowledgeable staff and I have never been disappointed with any repair or maintenance work they have completed. They bent over backward once to help us in a pinch.
My only complaint is that they are so busy with schools, it is hard to get personal instruments in. (They told me 3 weeks before they could even look at my daughter’s instrument.)
These people are consistently quality professionals. Over the last 5 years I have trusted their service and have not been disappointed.
It’s a good place for renting and buying instruments. They repair and provide loaner instruments.
Last time I came in here I had an employee make fun of me/my instrument because it wasn’t high end (which I knew). Now that I work on my own instruments I know better than to put up with snobby musicians like the one I dealt with here. Three stars because I can’t condemn the entire establishment because of one or two rude employees.
Absolutely the most unprofessional shop around ! Straight garbage
I went to get my clarinet fixed and they tried to up sell me on getting all my pads fixed and thought I was a child and were annoyed I came in the store when I came to pick it up. I will not be using these services again because of the horrible service I received from the workers.
I went in to have my saxophone serviced. The saxophone I play is pretty nice. I mentioned that I played it in marching band and the woman belittled me for playing a nice instrument in marching band. Sorry I don’t have an unlimited supply of saxophones.
12. Shivelbine’s Band Room
Address: 901 N Carbon St Ste 7, Marion, IL 62959 , Payson , Illinois , United States
Always friendly and helpful in finding what you need.
Always awesome people too deal with.
The people put 100% effort into getting you what you need. Even if that means they miss a sale. Because of that ive done all my business with them.
Very helpful staff
The girls who waited on me couldn’t have been more cordial and helpful. I wish they had a broader assortment of the classic oldies sheet music I was looking for. But there is always the internet. Perhaps my age has caught up with me. LOL.
13. Mike’s Music
Address: 816 E Main St A, Carbondale, IL 62901 , Payson , Illinois , United States
If you’re a musician Mike’s Music is your one-stop-shop. A great variety and selection, amazing prices, professional and friendly. Mike’s also has the best luthier in the tri-state area with fair prices and incredible quality of work. This is the only place I take my vintage and rare instruments for any advanced repairs I’d rather not take a chance doing myself.
For over five years I have driven from my home in Cape Girardeau to Carbondale specifically for the experience I get from Mike’s Music. My only wish is that they had a second location here in town.
Great place for a setup/instrument work. Dan is the guy!
Pretty nice i like to stop in and look at the guitars. The employees are very helpfull.
Nice little pocket shop to pick up some accessories and or a guitar you had no idea was there lol. Drum sticks are decently priced too although limited to two brands. I absolutely love the mascots too!
Cute kitty and nice workers
14. Staples
Address: 3100 Broadway St, Quincy, IL 62301 , Payson , Illinois , United States
Had documents to fax that had to be there today. Bert was professional and helpful and did it for us !!! Thanks for making our day easier .
Very helpful VERY polite. Great experience
Jamie, worked very skillfully and helped me create several emails. Her kindness and courtesy made me feel like a costumer that had her full attention. She gets 5 stars.
Identified prameters on product. Asked questions received qualified answers. Offered additional services. Made the buy. All good.
Thanks
Great equipment with name brands.Plenty of parking and friendly sales help.
Pretty great experience, Practically the only Tech store in town but they always have what I’m looking for and service is usually always friendly 8/10
They had what I wanted
This review is for the copy center – their employees are very under-trained, and were no help to me at all. I worked in the copy center in Decatur and Springfield in college. I knew how to get the job done, and how to use all the machines.
The gal I talked to (didn’t get her name) didn’t even know they had a bulk cutting machine (machine that cuts like 50 pages at a time) I pointed it out to her and she admitted that she didn’t even know what it was.. Also, the employee didn’t even know how to change the settings on a PowerPoint file to print on a certain size paper… An extremely simple task! It blew my mind that they were so incompetent and under trained! I will take my print needs to the Quincy Business Center going forward!!
All the employees were far too busy flirting with each other (2 male, one female) and surfing the internet on their phones (2 females) to help a customer. Go somewhere else, their customer service is nonexistent.
15. Baldwin Piano & Organ Center
Address: 200 N Park Ave, Herrin, IL 62948 , Payson , Illinois , United States
We have been so satisfied with our player Baby Grand. The staff went above and beyond to make sure the service we received was 5 star! The piano was beautiful the sound impeccable and the staff was extremely helpful.
The staff is really nice and they have great quality instruments.
Great service and good pricing! Highly recommend!
The rep was nice but the selection for guitar items was very thin.
16. Younger Than Yesterday
Address: 2615 N University St, Peoria, IL 61604 , Payson , Illinois , United States
It’s ok they have so much stuff in boxes, and storage containers It’s a mess In there. So they may have tons of good stuff but don’t know because in boxes or storage bins. The place is kinda hard to get around to check things out.
My only complaint is that their new vinyl is very overpriced. Great selection of used stuff though.
. Totally made us feel unwelcome. He has TONS of stuff. We made a purchase but will never go back to the overpriced elitist
Never will return. Had records out on the floor that evidently weren’t for sale yet??? had no interest in helping me and then when he did was a total jerk. Unbelievable.
Eh
17. SPECS – Quincy
Address: 195 S 36th St, Quincy, IL 62301 , Payson , Illinois , United States
This place is awesome ! Very helpful from the front desk and all throughout. I have found the perfect place to get eyecare and find the right glasses. They made my day ! Big thanks to Sydney !
Really friendly customer service I was very impressed by the friendliness and the eagerness to help me find a great pair of eyeglasses as I’ve never worn any before and Dr. Hayden was very very helpful I would highly recommend specs
Great experience. Staff was friendly and professional. Dr. Cooley is awesome. Explained what was going on with my eyes and what was needed to correct the problem. Will definitely be going here from now on. Maybe next time I can meet Chewy and Charlie!
Took over a month to get my safety glasses. Worst experience I have ever had. Rude staff & had no apologies for the delay in getting my glasses. I highly recommend you do not get your glasses from Specs.
18. Brandolino’s Encore Music Center
Address: 700 W Jefferson St Suite 3, Shorewood, IL 60404 , Payson , Illinois , United States
Just picked up my 1984 Guild guitar that I had set up at Brandolino’s. They did a fantastic job, ( in record time may I add and at a very reasonable price), it plays better than it did new.
I highly recommend them, and will not go anyware else for my musical needs. Thanks Bob
Went in needing instrument supplies, but not really knowing specifics. The owner helped so much, we left more knowledgeable and with everything we needed.
Also, the store felt very welcoming inside!
Friendly staff and great teachers!
This place does not do instrument repair, and has not every time I call for the past 6 months. I finally took my Electric Guitar to West Side Music Center. I haven’t actually been able to go inside for some time because they leave their neon “OPEN” sign on even if they are closed.
I didn’t wanna have to ask to play the guitars, but other than that, it was perfect
Very pricey and will give you outrageous quotes for repairs when you can get the work done much cheaper elsewhere
They gave me a quote on fixing my guitar that was out of this world. They said it would cost more to fix it than the guitar was actually worth. Whoever I talked to said they would have to send it out to a different tech. Long story short I got a second opinion and it only cost me $15 to get it fixed…… Good place to take lessons but don’t take your instruments here to get fixed.
19. Payson Township
Address: Illinois , Payson , Illinois , United States
20. Tobias Music
Address: 5013 Fairview Ave, Downers Grove, IL 60515 , Payson , Illinois , United States
Service was amazing! Everything arrived on time within days of purchase. Of course its quarantine time and was given two masks with my order! Thanks for the experience.
Bought my first guitar here last year and I’m so glad I did. Local, family-owned small business with top-notch customer service and very fair, competitive pricing. Don’t be sucked in by the larger chains…..shop local.
Tobias Music is the best Taylor dealer I have visited in the area. Their inventory is outstanding and their customer service is the best. I highly recommend Tobias for anyone that is looking for a great instrument, or a custom built guitar, Tobias Music will not disappoint.
***EDIT***
So, I am knocking down my review from five stars to three; due to my most recent experience a couple months after the first one. So I reached backout to buy another guitar (place order) as I really wanted an AD22e or another model I can’t remember, but after confirming they could place the order I let them know that I wanted the AD22e and to provide me the full price so we could close the deal and they went silent, mind you I didn’t even get a copy of the receipt from my AD27e that never came which I had also requested from the last conversation.
I did finally get my guitar ordered but I had a national retailer place the order. I was disappointed I didn’t hear back from Tobias Music about completing the purchase and obtaining a copy of the receipt for my AD27e that never came.
** original **
Just bought an AD27e (Taylor) from them after finding it for sale online. it was a great buying experience. I’m a lefty, buying guitars online is the norm, and most of the time guitars I buy take a day or two to pack and ship. we had a few emails back and forth and they were quick to respond and very professional. These guys had it packed and shipped the same day, and I didn’t place my order until after lunch; that’s service.
They also took the time to dial the guitar in; it came with the action set and was tuned ready to play out of the box. Paul did a great job and really made this buying experience easy, and hassle free. I’ll have to check back often to see what other lefty guitar they get in. If I have the chance, I will buy from them again.
They are more of a acoustic guitar place not really a place for bass players .
