My daughter really enjoys going to class because it’s fun and she learns a lot. I personally prefer having someone come to our home, but unfortunately our previous piano teacher is retired now. Overall this is a fairly good studio…
3. Hawaii MusicWorks
Address: 98-1268 Kaʻahumanu St Ste 201 Ste 201, Pearl City, HI 96782 , Pearl City , Hawaii , United States
My kids have been taking keyboard and guitar lessons from Musicworks for almost a year and they love it. When my husband and I started looking for lessons, the most important thing to us was finding a place that was nurturing and motivating at the same time. Musicworks is that place. There’s a real family atmosphere there. Mr. Mark and Ms. Kira are fun and engaging, approachable and responsive. My kids are always connected through their digital portal and it makes them feel like their teachers are there to help them succeed, which is great! These are not piano lessons like when I was a kid because they use songs from the radio and movies in addition to the classics. To me, whatever makes my kids love music is the right kind of music, and I couldn’t be more proud of seeing how much they have progressed since they started.
We love this school! Our daughter has been taking drum lessons with Mr. Payton for several years and has been in excellent hands. He is always looking for ways to push her to the next level.
The fees are very reasonable, and we feel we’re getting a ton of value.
Furthermore, they are the nicest people! Always warm and welcoming. And they’ve always been responsive to the inevitable seasonal issues that arise with kids’ schedules.
As I am writing this review during the pandemic, I feel a word is warranted on how they have addressed health and safety. They have taken every reasonable precaution to keep their students safe, to the point of transitioning to distance learning via webcam. It’s a challenge, and I know they would very much prefer to teach in-person, but we really appreciate their efforts to keep us safe while keeping music instruction alive during this challenging time.
Prior to the pandemic, they were actively creating opportunities for growth with performances and concerts, and those have been invaluable and memorable for our daughter. We can’t wait for those opportunities to resume one day. Until then, we’re just very grateful to have MusicWorks in our lives and look forward to many more years with them!
I’m 48 and haven’t played guitar since I was 12 or 13. My instructor, Payton, is a pleasure to work with. The lessons and the homework are not stuffy or boring. I feel they are current and relevant to both young and old. I highly recommend and believe the price is fair.
4. Kalena Discount Ukuleles at Pearlridge Center
Address: 98-1005 Moanalua Rd #807, Aiea, HI 96701 , Pearl City , Hawaii , United States
In January of 2020, as a recent widow, I decided to try my hand at playing ukulele. I am somewhat musical and was confident I could teach myself to play – I mean… how hard could it be? . As a Lefty, I wanted a L-hand ukulele and found there was not a huge selection online. I found a soprano LH on KALENA’s website. I chatted and emailed with someone at the store which was very helpful. I made the purchase and am still very pleased. I subsequently have purchased a Kalimba for Music Major granddaughter (she loves it!) and this past Christmas I purchased some music books for my youngest grand (who now plays a ukulele) and some instructional books for my son, the new drummer. I live in Missouri and was very pleased with the value of each purchase and the shipping time was much quicker than I expected each time. Highly recommend Kalena.
Loving my sapele ‘ukulele! Mahalo.
My dad and I came in this afternoon to pick up a couples ukuleles while on vacation. Anthony was so knowledgeable and helpful in helping us pick out the perfect instruments that fit both our price range and aesthetics. He was very kind and didn’t pressure us in the slightest and really made it a great and memorable experience. 100/10 recommend coming here!!!
Would never recommend this place to anyone. The guy that works there made me feel so offended.
Bought the ” toy” violin for Christmas which was advertised as high quality. Cost me $40. It was awful. Couldnt play a single note on it. The bow is complete garbage and the resin was as hard as a rock so it couldn’t be used with the plastic bow strings provided.
Be careful. They have a fickle return policy and they replaced my strings with the wrong ones. I didn’t know my uke could sound bad until it left Kalena. My fiance took it there as a gift to be restrung and you were also rude to her and said that 14 days means less than 2 weeks. You being a musician shop is suspicious. I don’t think you should replace strings if you don’t know how to do it
