Joe paid me nearly double what any other shop in town offered for my vintage Gibson guitar. He was very communicative and friendly as well.
I have bought multiple guitars from Joe. He’s extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and very fair. Highly recommended
i’ve had nothing but positive experiences with Joe. he always gives me a fair deal when he buys or sells me guitars. he does free, very accurate appraisals on vintage guitars as well. He should be your first stop for all things guitar related
I have been doing business with these folks for over 20 years they are the best!
Me encanta esta tienda.
Five stars when the old man ran it downtown and had everything 3 stars since he passed awesome high quality then ok now but comparitively approaching mediocrity in quality and in off brands mediocre quality instruments profitable in margins for them but way too many entry level instruments and equipment still an interesting group of shops but it was a virtual museum of guitar and instrument history when the old man had it with every guitar you could every want from the 50s to the present..sometimes change isnt good keep the old mans business acumen and legacy somewhat intact and its easily 5 stars plus his was the best music store in the world in my book and ive seen many its still good but not crazy awesome like when he had it and one of a kind then but its in extreme danger at this point of going from a one of a kind store with everything vintage and new anyone could ever want from beginner to superstar to just another music store in a sea of music stores from one of a kind unique to just like all the others..some emotional attachment here but keep at least some of the old mans vision for what was once hands down the best music store in the world..still good but not at all the chicago store i once knew and loved
Friendly and great customer service!
The place is nice. People there will like to show you products that you want to see. I recently bought a guitar there. Downside is I felt the brand I was looking for was not available but eventually I bought something entirely different. Whether you buy or not, definitely check out the store. 4 stars out of 5.
sad i have to change my review, really wanted to like this store but after returning our bass we ended up with one with a broken neck pick up and electrical problems. it kept making cracking and popping while it was plugged in. needless to say we returned it and got our other one back. we fixed up the flaws ourselves but point being you guys need to pay attention to these pieces you’re selling and work on them before you sell them. don’t sell somebody something like that.
They told me they only charge for the E string on a single re-string on my bass guitar during a phone call I had with them because i only needed one string to get fixed. Only to get charged about 20$ when I picked up my instrument, 17$ for the re-string labor & 3$ for the string?? i love this store but that did not sat right with me
I wish I didn’t have to give a bad review.
I hate saying anything negative about a local music shop, especially one who normally does so well with its customers, but I had an experience with their repair shop that is disappointing enough to take my business elsewhere.
I brought in an old trombone for a dent repair on the bell side, which yes they repaired quickly and at a good price.
But in the process they tried to adjust the slide and ended up knocking it so out of alignment it couldn’t slide back into 1st position.
When I pointed it out the tech made an attempt to bend it back to its original shape but unfortunately that only made it worse. after a few weeks in the case like that it ended up stuck shut.
I when I called the shop to look for a solution the tech said it wouldn’t be as simple as bending it back to shape, and instead quoted me a price to redo the slide, which is more than a new trombone would set me back
if I brought in a broken instrument and left with a broken instrument I could just accept it as a lost cause, but the horn played fine when I brought it in and is the only one I have.
I just brought it in for a cosmetic dent repair and I did not ask for the slide to be touched at all.
now I have to find a new repair shop or a new trombone, either way, I am disappointed by the outcome.
8. Music & Arts
Address: 8320 N Thornydale Rd Suite 150/170, Tucson, AZ 85741 , Pima County , Arizona , United States
I went with a friend to get some guitar strings. We didn’t know the best ones to get so we asked the associate Lucy what we should get. She was very helpful and we left with some good info and the correct string. Would highly recommend this store, they have great workers and a nice vibe inside the store.
I have never played an instrument before and Cooper has been guiding me through this journey. He is patient. He listens to what I want to accomplish. He simplifies all of the music jargon for me. I do not care to learn theory or make my own music. I want to learn a good number of songs and that is what Cooper is helping me do. I recommend this location and Cooper as an instructor.
I had a great experience and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Store is extremely organized and clean; it’s obvious that the staff takes a lot of pride with the business and helping customers satisfy their musical needs! I strongly reccomend anyone that wants to learn to play an instrument (both beginner and advanced levels) to consider Music and Arts, as their teachers are very experienced and patient.
Friendly and helpful staff! Clean and distance with masks observed! Awesome place to learn music as well as purchase quality music products.
Very knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Abit more expensive than the guitar center.
I was very unhappy with the way this store sold us an instrument after we rented one for over two years. We qualified for the rental credit and it was given to us. The problem was that they valued the used rental instrument at $800+ and they sell the same one brand new for about $470. The reason they do that is that there is a clause that states that when using the rental credit one must buy an instrument that cost the same or more than the rental so they jack up the value of the rental. We were told that we couldn’t buy the flute we had been renting and could not get a new flute because it wasn’t equal or more value to the one we had been renting per terms of our agreement. They said that our only option was to purchase a used refurbished flute from the warehouse and it would be sent to us. We feel that this is a very shady way to do business. Not recommended. Updated; Thank you for your reply too, owner of the store. I have already sent an email but thanks for suggesting it.
I used to be loyal customer for years. Howerver, M&A’s new strategy of “Paperless receipts”, requires that I provide my email address for a purchase. Their “paperless reciept” excuse is nothing more than a strategic excuse to obtain email addresses so they can spam. When I stated I do not provide my email, they refused to sell me a service. I have since found a local music store that is more friendly and will no longer use M&A.
The worst place ever.. Always pay my rental before its do and yet still get notices in the mail saying not paid.. They never get the billing correct.. I even got a collection letter 2 months after I even returned the instrument in and have proof of paid in full yet they say it was a computer problem.. This place sucks.. Never doing business with them again..

Nice folks, lots of gear, good prices. I’ll go back.
Good vibes.
The service here is truly second to none. Very knowledgeable staff of musicians helping musicians.
This Guitar Center is smaller than the one in Tucson’s eastern area, but they do have a good selection. However, I noticed a few areas that need some polish to better the customer experience. First, make sure your guitars are tuned. With a good number of guitars having lock nuts, it prevents us from tuning them ourselves. Second, better train the staff or at least tell them they can go ask a question to senior staff. When I asked about digital converter interfaces/audio interface for the PC, one went looking to get me a patch cable. I was a bit annoyed when I seen them on my way out of the store, after being told he couldn’t find them. This one is more a building management issue, but work on getting the power issue fixed. The power went out at least three times in the store when I was shopping. If you resolve those three issues you would provide an excellent customer experience.
Always nice friendly staff but over priced
Jameson, Josh and Brady, we’re super helpful in my guitar purchase. Thanks guys!
Customer service was lacking, soneone sent me to a tech desk where no one was present to wait for no one for 20 minutes while none of the other employees in line of sight came to make sure that we were taken care of. The layout is a bit strange with having none of the guitar related items(picks, strings, etc..) by the register in a guitar center. The other location closer to down town i have had nothing but good experiences with and the layout there is great.
Large selection convenient parking. Very pushy salespeople. Go to the folk shop on 2525 North Campbell the prices are cheaper the equipment is nicer and they know guitar players way better. Guitar Center was clean sterile plastic a great place to go if you want to buy a guitar and have a ridiculous amount of money and do not know anything about music.
Guitar Center is kind of like rainbow music on steroids homogenized and pasteurized and they are really just trying to make a sale and nothing more
I have bought three guitars a mandolin and a ukulele at Rainbow music on 2525 North Campbell it is a very high-end shop and they are way less expensive than Guitar Center Guitar Center is the McDonald’s of guitar stores if you are normal middle-of-the-road average American and you have never heard of classic rock bluegrass Folk artistic acid metal. And the only bands you know about are like Beyonce or something like that Guitar Centers your place
Totally sucks and don’t recommend anyone go there. I’ve had trouble with every visit, and I’d spent a large amount of cash there. Have been endlessly disappointed. 0 stars, but this won’t let me give it none!
11. The Folk Shop
Address: 2525 N Campbell Ave, Tucson, AZ 85719 , Pima County , Arizona , United States
Excellent knowledge from beginner to experienced, great staff, brilliant selection. All round easily the bezt in Tucson
My go-to guys and gals for anything bluegrass—especially banjos. Great people, great stuff!
Just had a set up on my Yamaha and it sounds better than I thought possible. Great price as well. Highly recommend this place!
They repaired my 12 string guitar
Such a cute little shop and my hubby loves his guitar
Neat shop, friendly staff. Went in to see if they could help with my Djembe drum repair, but they don’t currently have anyone who can replace and restring the skin for the drumhead ☹️
Very rude disrespectful because I was asking for a part and I didn’t have a mask and I wasn’t trying to go in the place without permission and they were just very rude very very rude and I didn’t understand I was thrown off by it. Yelling at me for no reason all I wanted was a part I didn’t even try to go into shop told her I’d wait outside because I didn’t have a mask she slams door in my face. So I go get a mask and they won’t even deal with me I was the up most respectful and didn’t deserve that. Very very rude!!! I’ll never do business with them again.
Well, over the years I’ve bought, sold, and traded with Paul and really wouldn’t do so again. The last guitar I purchased there had broken tuner barrels and more important, his pricing and moods vary wildly. Certainly lots to look at, but no great shakes in terms of quality or pricing.
I am absolutely incredulous as to how condescendingly I was treated over the phone by this place. I arrived with my Taylor 312-CE looking to trade up and quite likely spend substantial chunk of money. I noticed the posting on the door that read (I may be paraphrasing) “masks required even for those vaccinated.” I have been twice jabbed with Pfizer, but no problem. I get it. I understand it. People may not be fully honest about their status and might contaminate others. I have zero issue complying with the policy The posting also read “do not knock; call to be granted entry” (again, I may be paraphrasing, but this was the gist). I keep a KN-95 with me in the car but couldn’t find it. Maybe it fell behind the seat or something. I ring their number. A woman answers. Convo goes like this: “Hi, I noticed you require masks even for the vaxxed, which I am fully, but I can’t seem to find mine here in my car….I’m here outside….do you happen to have any masks there inside the store that you could pass out to me”? (like logical, sensible merchants across town, the state, the country have in abundance in case you forgot or can’t find yours—sterile ones for the taking in boxes) “If not, I don’t live too far. I can run home, grab one and come back”. The woman on the phone raises her voice and says “NO YOU NEED TO WEAR A MASK” and abruptly hangs up!! Um, I think I got that part and more than amply communicated it back. Wow. And delivered with a tone of voice akin to Mrs. Gulch from Wizard of Oz. I was perfectly polite, acknowledged the policy and was willing to go out of my way to comply. This is not only ridiculously bad policy, but there was not even basic intelligible, lucid communication on her part. Not the conduct of a sound minded individual.
Now, for some background. I have never made any major purchases at Folk Shop. However, I have patronized them over years–even before I moved to Tucson. The first time, I was recording an album visiting from Austin in 2014 and needed a dobro capo. The engineer called around to Guitar Center and few other places. They didn’t even know what a dobro was, much less a dobro capo. Folk Shop to the rescue with a Paul Beard capo, just like the one I had forgotten and left back in TX! I’ve been there since for strings, straps, stainless steel slides etc. Never ever the slightest of problems. What happened today is totally inexcusable. I myself have been fastidious and a stickler about masking and distancing throughout the pandemic, but this kind of post-mandate fanaticism, illogic and outright meanness is beyond the pale. They certainly don’t want my money or any of my future business. To hell with this place. l’ll buy a guitar from Musician’s Friend before stepping foot in there, even though I prefer to shop locally.
12. L&M Music Center
Address: 4915 E Speedway Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85712 , Pima County , Arizona , United States
Great local music store. Nice people, decent selection and a good lesson program. **Recommended**
Great service with John and his very deal teal on his work as well will be going back for sure
This place Rocks. The boy’s here are the real deal. Professional knowledgeable. I recommend them highly to all musician’s here in Tucson. Love Health Brothers. See you soon
Friendly staff. Stock is usually good and other times they don’t have reeds which requires me to travel further to a different store.
Friendly knowledgeable staff
John took my bass for a setup about a month ago. He first said it would take about a week. a week later, I called in and he said he was working on it that day. When I came in the towards the end of the following day John had not worked on the instrument at all. Instead of providing customer service, he gave the run around and said it would be done in a week, he said he would call me the following Monday. Havent heard from him since, now i have to find time to go back to retrieve my property and i expect him to give me a hard time based on how he has treated me so far. Wish i could give 0 stars, its been a month.
Took my clarinet in for the simplest repair. Took more then 3 months to get it back.
It’s basically just a repair shop for guitars and amps
13. Fletcher Music Centers
Address: 4500 N Oracle Rd #203, Tucson, AZ 85705 , Pima County , Arizona , United States
easy to learn fun and keep s u interested in music
Started 4 months ago, having never played before. Am actually playing songs and loving it, thanks to Fletcher Music.
I never thought I would ever be able to play any instrument. Thanks to Daun’s patience, teaching skills, and caring to see that all of her students succeed, here I am actually playing! WOW! I own a Lowrey Marquee and love it. I really miss my in-store classes but thankful for ZOOM! Thanks to Robert Roman and John Riley for making Zoom available.
I could not agree more with those who shared these people prey on the elderly. My very elderly father purchased a top of the line organ and had roughly $80k invested in it. I won’t even go into the details of the transaction(s) but he passed away and fletchers sold it on consignment, and I kid you not, the family got 3.7 cents on the dollar for a near new organ. I would love to know who they preyed on next and how much they sold it for (mind you that it sold almost immediately). Draw your own conclusions from this review but we find this entire industry to be utterly despicable.
My friend bought a lovely Lowery Organ in November of this last year…..8 months old. He died 2 months ago, I called Fletcher Music to see about a consignment….they offered us 200.00 !!!! Wow I have a receipt here for 8,649.63 dated November 7 2019….that my friend is some really outrageous depreciation. Run fast from this business, run!
Don’t schedule with them to perform for your facilities.
They will schedule with you, then not show up. Then when you call to see what happen they will claim there is no record of anything ever being scheduled. We will be doing business elsewhere.
14. Metro Gnome Music
Address: 4044 E Speedway Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85712 , Pima County , Arizona , United States
I’ve had an old heavy steel Schwinn Cruiser for years. The other day, I saw a bike with solid red “road” tires, wow! They looked so thin and lightweight compared to my hybrid tires. Went to MetroGnome, and they are both and so many colors!!! I had Brandon install two skinny (though not the skinniest, because I live down a dirt road) solid tires, do a tune up for my 21 speeds, and install a new lighter ergonomic seat. I also bought a new lumina microUSB rechargeable headlight
I’ve had the bike tuned at three other places, and it’s never felt so smooth. Best tuneup it’s ever had, and the new seat is definitely better for my undersides.
I feel like I’m flying on my “new” bike. Love it. Love it. No more worries about goatheads nor glass in the road. WOOOOT!!!
I have bought thousands and thousands of dollars worth of equipment from this place because they always have good quality stuff so if you’re a musician just beginning or if you’re someone who’s played for many many years I would definitely advise you try this place out even though it’s small I have to tell you the people inside really know their stuff one of the people in there his name is Ave has done work on several guitars for me and has always done excellent work at a very reasonable price I highly recommend that if you’re looking to have something done to an instrument that you have or just looking for a good price on a quality instrument this is a place to go and visit
Update: Took my alto sax in for a tune up and it’s playing better than every. Thank you Metro Gnome! … I’ve driven by here so many times but never stopped in. Glad I finally did. If you’re into music or a musician, you will definitely find something for you here. There’s also a selection of foldable bikes and other bike gear. Oh and lots of vintage vinyl records too.
Slow customer service.
Good selection, helpful staff, great rental rates, in-store repairs.
Way, way, way more than just buy/selling instruments!
Not a word from staff my whole visit. Sales 101
I’ve read the experiences of other customers at this store and can’t believe that I am having such a negative experience with these guys! Granted the mistake was made on my part, but after realizing what had happened and returning the instrument in good condition and trying to fix the mistake, my wages were garnished for twice the amount of what the instrument was worth that I had rented! $1315.76 and now two and a half years later after I had paid in full they are trying to garnish my wages again for another $100. All of this was done without communication, I made a mistake after moving to a new house and packing the instrument away and forgot about it. I returned the item when I came across it unpacking immediately without notice. I wasn’t expecting not having to pay something, but to come back after having paid in full and after such a long time makes me wonder if the customers are really the focus of this store!
I thought it was a music store, but it is a bike store
15. Instrumental Music Center Speedway
Address: 7063 E Speedway Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85710 , Pima County , Arizona , United States
Dakota has help me very good person in what he does thank you merry Christmas happy new year
I drove by this place, and really wanted to check it out! I am glad I did. I wasn’t looking for any particular instrument, but ended up buying my first ukulele: they had a gorgeous collection, plus the sales staff Chase was just the person that made this sale easy and smooth for me; he came to me, tuned up the ukulele I was interested in purchasing, and helped me get my “Basic Gear” all set up, so I could start learning how to play my new instrument! Thank you Chase, you deserve a bonus this month, with your professional service! I am a happy customer!
Decent selection and staff very knowledgeable
Got my guitar strings, good customer service
Good selection, but the prices are definitely higher than you find online.
When I called to ask how much it would cost to replace violin strings, they said it was free and that I would only be charged for the new strings themselves. But when I brought the violins in, they charged me $25 per violin. Then, after a few days of practice on the newly stringed violins, one (of the two) violins irreparably broke at the base where the strings would attach, likely because they had negligently applied too much force in replacing the strings. In all, I paid them almost $100 to ruin one of my violins, which cost me $400 to replace. They are liars and at least when it comes to violins, they are also incompetent.
Not pleased at all. I called ahead to get instruments repaired and was told it would be two weeks. I drove to drop off instruments and asked if I could have them done a few days sooner. I was told the repair person is taking a vacation and it would be 3 weeks. But, if I wanted to pay double, I could have it done sooner. What a scam! I will never do business with this music store.
I’m not sure what this store is doing but I’m pretty sure it is illegal. I did a Google search for Metronome Music and when I clicked on the link this store came up. I don’t like being misled or deceived and I will never take my business here. Shame on you
16. Guitar Center
Address: 4720 E Broadway Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85711 , Pima County , Arizona , United States
I went looking for a drum throne and I found the perfect one that I wanted and the floor person in the drum section was very cool…he instinctively knew what I was looking for….I also met a nice lady there with a little doge that I fell in love with…it was a great experience!
The staff is friendly, helpful, and we’re very patient despite me walking in with no idea what I needed.
If you play music or play instruments they have everything. One Stop Shop
I had to laugh walking in as it was the typical guitar center cliche of a dude wailing away on his guitar Eddie Van Halen style arpeggios in the middle of the store. I felt like I was in the movie Wayne’s world. But the pro audio section is cool. They had what I needed and I got out of there pretty quick.
Quick! Run to the back before 3 people ask me if I need anything!
Waited so long we had to leave. I am a very patient person so yes, it took a very long time and we didn’t even get acknowledged. A simple “we will be with you in a moment.” Would have been nice.
Last year I bought a $700 Epiphone. Sheraton II from this location. Earlier this week, my input jack had fallen into my guitar, so I contact this location about it and their tech told me it would be an easy fix and free of charge. So on my only day off, I drive two hours (because that’s how far away I live) to get this fixed. I arrive there close to 1 pm. The tech tells me he’d have it finished “sometime today” and it would cost me 35 dollars, which I was fine with even though they had told me it’d be free, and that we’d have to wait a few hours for it to be fixed. So I wait until about 5:30 and I call the store asking if my guitar is fixed because I haven’t heard anything. I talk to the tech personally, and he said that he JUST started on it. Because I have to be back home soon, I go back to this store to wait for it to be fixed. I wait another hour and twenty minutes and I see the tech leaving. I ask him where is my guitar did it get fixed? He tells me no, he almost had it but couldn’t get it and it was his time to be off so he said he’d finish it early the next morning! Then the manager, instead of trying to understand my story, he still backed up what the tech had to say. I wasted the majority of my only day off waiting for this because I was told I’d have it fix that same day yet, still ended up with no results and terrible customer service even after I’ve spent hundreds of dollars here. It was A huge waste of my time, and for that I’ll never return to this location again and don’t advise anyone else to.
Can’t get help in this store ever. Won’t buy anything from here because….well, you can’t get service.
I absolutely love music ,Ive been looking for a great store to purchase a few items for my home studio i was referred by nick he told me that was the place to go. I was very impressed with there selections ,wonderful customer service, and cleanliness. I most definitely would recommend sticks and strings to everyone! I will continue to go there also considering taking a few classes which they offer.
I’ve been a customer for more than 20 years , I’ve also owned my owned my own ventures for most my life!!! I’m amazed at what is being said about sticks and strings.Shame on you!!!!!!!! I’ll stand behind them always!!!! :^{
An awesome supplier of audio and video equipment.
We use them to remodel our entire school gymnasium and theatrical department.
Hands-down the best sound and visual system in the city currently. Thanks guys! You guys did awesome.
Mixed bag. Tony seems nice, the owner operator. I ordered reeds. Took a few weeks. Little longer than expecting, but wasn’t in a hurry. He did give me a good price and far better customer service than the big national chain.
Basic local music shop. Owner seemed very nice.
Great group of knowledgeable and helpful guys. They went out of their way to make sure that I was happy with my purchase. I will continue to go to them for my musical needs. Great place to shop.
I went to tony looking for a midi controller and software. The controller showed up months later with tons of hounding on my end. tony said the software was being shipped on disc, but i gave up after months of constant follow up. I called the software company and they confirmed they don’t even sell software on disc anymore, all downloads. I really should have posted this years ago when I experienced the shady business. Embarrassment on my end after reading a few bbb reviews on this guy and realizing i should have never walked into the shop.
Ordered a guitar part like 3 years ago, guy just kept saying “uh… check back next Wednesday”. No honesty or integrity, just a desperate guy whos probably in a lot of debt.
Just don’t. Check Yelp, the BBB, or the news story investigation the local channel did (both of them), or the Attorney Generals investigation. Wish I had.
20. Chicago Music Store
Address: 5646 E Speedway Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85712 , Pima County , Arizona , United States
This store is amazing! They go above and beyond for their customers. They have been able to answer all my questions and I will never buy another instrument online when I can get it from Chicago Music.
Staff are friendly, are helpful and knowledgeable. My son is on the Pride of Arizona and UofA Pep band. He felt comfortable conversing and was a plus because the staff knew exactly what he needed.
Trey, great customer service. Awesome job highly recommend it. I’ll be coming back here for sure. Thank you.
Everyone was nice wish they would have returned the product I purchased tho.
I talked to jim the repair guy and he was super helpful and knew exactly what I was talking about.
Helpful and friendly. Very knowledgeable about the product and give you space to look around.
Was doing rent to buy they gave me a broken instrument that didn’t work then I took it back the next day they accused me of breaking it then made me pay a hundred and fifty dollars to fix it even though I didn’t break it
Worst Music Store in Tucson. Don’t ever buy from them.
Wouldn’t recommend, music is suppose to be fun and the tall white guy doesn’t leave you alone. Let people play in peace. I’ll be going to guitar center where they let you express yourself.
