I picked up my brand new Martin D35E a couple of days ago that Mike special ordered for me from that factory because I wanted a couple of changes and all I can say is wow. And whom ever said his prices are high obviously has never set foot in Mike shop. My guitar was a special order and Mike beat out GC by quite a lot. Stop by and see him he has the best prices on new Martins I have ever saw.
Good store lots of items he is very helpful
Great deals
Over priced on most of the guitars
3. Music Depot
Address: 304 N Main St, Cedartown, GA 30125 , Poio , Georgia , United States
Helpful and friendly. Enjoyed talking with the owner.
sweet little place. superbly nice staff. great prices and has layaway.
Small Town music store with excellent service
Been going for a few years now, the only problem I had was with a messed up stand but it was easy to fix so it worked out fine
It was fun to look at the beautiful guitars, even though right now, during this virus epidemic, you can’t touch anything unless you’re planning to buy it.
Nice selection, especially for a small town.
My wife bought a Walden acoustic guitar less than a week ago from this music store for me as a surprise. It fell off the stand and the top part of the neck “above the first fret” broke in half. I’ve been playing for 35 years and this has never happened before. The bottom of the guitar stand is 1 inch from the floor so it just fell lightly not slammed against the floor. We took it back and the owners refused to replace it or refund our money. We left the guitar there, out of our money and my gift to play music right now is at a haunt. So I would definitely not recommend this place. -Matthew Patrick Avery
Bought an avlex microphone from them that was totally defective. Not only did the store refuse to refund the money, they refused store credit as well. I’ve reported them to consumer reports and the better business bureau. They could’ve just refunded my money for selling me a broken piece of gear. Do not shop here if you don’t like getting ripped off. I’m a local musician and would’ve bought quite a bit of merchandise from them too. Their loss…
4. Music Go Round – Atlanta/Duluth, GA
Address: 3675 Satellite Blvd # 100, Duluth, GA 30096 , Poio , Georgia , United States
Most reasonable music store to purchase instruments for my boys.
Amazing place to buy and test out instruments and gear!!!!!
Great prices on used equipment. Great staff very knowledgeable and helpful
Good people. Ok deals.
Knowledgeable about instruments. Helpful. sometimes a little long in getting back repairs though.
Although we did not leave with our expectation(not their fault) they were very helpful and friendly. They have a great store
Poor customer service. Salesman was disrespectful. Had to walk out on a purchase. Very disappointed.
I’d give less than one star if it were an option. Upon looking online I found a wireless guitar system I wanted to purchase but also check out prior to such. I called the store & was told YES they had the item in stock. It’s a bit of a long drive for me to their location. I drove all the way out there & when I walked through the door I’m greeted by an employee who appeared a bit disoriented acting. Nevertheless, I informed him I was there to check out the wireless guitar system I called about. The employee looked the item up & confirmed it being there … then he began walking around the store looking for it. (Kinda odd u wouldn’t assign items such as this a general location) perhaps near the guitar pedals. So after about 5 mins of him wandering around the store I’m told he can’t find the item. I explain I called & drove a bit of distance specifically for this item (I was also looking at a high priced guitar) The employee begins wandering around the store joking around with other employees but ultimately no real effort to locate the item I came for was made as well as no apologies given for not having the item after I was told they must’ve lost it.
This also tells me if I were to purchase this item online they’d not be able to accommodate my purchase. As I searched the store myself a couple of friendly customers engaged with me in chat.
I also noticed anytime a customer wanted to try out a guitar the employees would play the instrument more so than the customer asking to try it out. Meaning the employees would take an instrument off the rack someone wants to play & rather than hand it to them right away they play their entire musical catalogs it appears. So as a dissatisfied customer there was absolutely no apologies for the mistake they made of not having the item in stock nor was there even a remote attempt to satisfy a displeased customer. For example – we are sorry u drove all this way for an item we assured u was in stock but unfortunately there was miscommunication on our part so to accommodate we will take a percentage off any purchase u like to make up for our error. That would be providing customer service. Something the employees need to learn apparently as opposed to trying to show off on the instruments they’re attempting to sell.
U lost a couple thousand dollars sell today because of this. I had planned to purchase a Gibson with the wireless guitar system. I won’t ever return because of this experience & inform others to do business elsewhere because ultimately u are clueless to ur inventory.
Absolutely abysmal and highly unprofessional experience trying to buy an instrument here. I found an instrument I wanted on the store’s website, and I called immediately to enquire as to its availability. Being told it was still available, I asked if it was possible to hold it for a student of mine who would purchase it pending me as his teacher trying it out. I was told they could purchase it and have it held until I could try it.
The day I had planned to come to the store, I called to inform them of the time of my arrival. They said they could not find the instrument and said it might have been sold, only to later discover that someone had put the instrument in an area where it would be later sent to a repair shop prior to shipping to my student. Fair enough, I guess people make mistakes. I arrived at the store and confirmed that the instrument was in good condition and acceptable for my student. The instrument was slated to be sent out for minor repairs before being shipped to my student prior to the beginning of school starting this past week.
This week, when my student called to ask when the instrument was estimated to arrive, they told them that they had indeed then accidentally put the instrument back on the shelf and sold it to a secondary party, even though my student had already purchased the instrument. Incredible.
I have never witnessed such ineptitude at any store in my entire life. This is unacceptable, and the best I got from anyone over the course of this entire experience was a shrug of the shoulders.
AVOID THIS PLACE.
5. Firehouse Guitars & Music
Address: 612 Medlock Rd, Decatur, GA 30033 , Poio , Georgia , United States
Awesome customer service! If you live in or around Decatur you should visit. I got such a great deal I drove over an hour one way to do purchase it. I was in communication with them for multiple days and they helped me pick out exactly what I needed. I look forward to doing business with them again in the future.
I have bought from this place many times and have taken lessons and I am happen without the service and the instructors have passion about what they teach.
I stopped into Firehouse for the first time yesterday and I was blown away by the amazing people that worked here. I came in with a specific problem – protecting my guitars for an upcoming move – and the two guys working there both listened to my quandary and helped me come up with a solution. They were super attentive and friendly, knowledgable, and seemed to really love what they were doing. The simple kindness that they showed to me has decidedly made me an eternal fan of the store. Not to mention that the two people who were working there both kept their masks on the whole time. I just feel like that’s a show of human decency.
A few days prior, I went to a large chain music store nearby and the employees there just acted too cool to really give concern to my issues and NO ONE was wearing a mask. I mean, halfway through helping me, the employee picked up a guitar and started playing lol. I was like, “bro, I’m talking to you??” (didn’t say that, but I definitely thought it)
Listen. Don’t go to any other store in the area. These guys care about everyone that walks through the door – I can just tell. My only regret is that I didn’t catch the names of the two guys so that I could mention them directly. Show some love to the local guys. You won’t regret it.
This is a pretty good little store. I bought my guitar and amp here
Rip off.go elsewhere. I use to really like bringing my daughter here but they must be under new management. Prices have gotten ridiculous!!!
6. Jackson’s Music Store Inc
Address: 5485 Westmoreland Plaza, Douglasville, GA 30134 , Poio , Georgia , United States
Great Great Great good people john and Steve was very helpful and knowledgeable about everything in that store… Great prices on everything there I will be back to visit
Been going here since I was 14 years old buying strings, picks, and drum pieces. The guys here are very knowledgeable and know their stuff. They either give lessons in tons of instruments, and if they don’t have an instructor in house they can recommend great folks. For you.
I love it
Great bunch of talented musicians
Knowledgable staff, who are helpful but not pushy. I have been getting music supplies from there for more than 10 years and not once have me or my family had an issue.
Nice staff, very polite and friendly. Young sales man could’ve been more knowledgeable about products. But he was still nice and polite. Selection was minimal. Said they would price match or beat other prices so that’s a +. If they were every to replenish there Guitar stock it would definitely be a 4 or 5
As any business, it is made up of people. I have been a musician for 25 years but these guys treat you like you are an idiot every time you come in. I even sent my wife up there to ask for something specific and these morons tried to tell her that I was stupid for wanting what I needed. Humility and professionalism goes a long way. I went in to give them a shot on a $4k acoustic that I would up purchasing. Could not get them to treat me serious and I had cash that day!! Never, ever use this place.
Avoid like the plague. Absolutely rubbish. I will never set foot in this garbage store again. Rented an audio system that was buzzing. And changed me extra for an extension cable that there was no proof that it existed.
Very unhappy with the service on a product exchange. Came into the store this morning and made a purchase very possibly a four-star transaction. They were very helpful the sales guy that helped us initially. But upon returning to the store to exchange after realizing that the wrong mic cord was purchased the customer service received from the manager was very inappropriate. The salesman that sold us the cord initially apologized that he assumed that we needed the cord that he sold us the first time. So he apologized and went back to get the manager to do the exchange. The manager was clearly disgusted with us because we wanted to exchange the cord that was only two dollars difference in price. We even said that he could keep the change. He was typing on the keyboard very hard and just looking at us and like he didn’t want to be bothered and basically threw the original receipt back at us. Maybe he was having a bad day. He made a comment to the salesman about another customer in the store who was playing a guitar saying “why is he even here?” The salesman said he didn’t know. So maybe the manager was having a bad day.I don’t know but don’t take it out on your customers. I surely will not be back.
7. Retrotone Guitars
Address: 5427 Martha Berry Hwy, Armuchee, GA 30105 , Poio , Georgia , United States
Great customer service. Makes you feel like family when you walk in the door. Love dealing with Josh!
What makes this shop better than a chain music store? The owner really puts his heart into the business. Very informative about products that he has in stock, plus what he can offer. Prices are very competitive, customer service is outstanding. The owner was eager to help with every question I have/had. Awesome all around person! This should be the only place you come to for a Real pickin machine, might even learn a thing or two about where the guitar has been. Will definitely continue to shop!
My favorite guitar shop around. Easy to work with, they got my guitar fixed very quickly. I cannot recommend this place enough. Great selection of instruments, very friendly staff, and the guitar tech knows what he’s doing. I recommend this place over any other local shop.
8. Music & Arts
Address: 12182 Hwy 92, Woodstock, GA 30188 , Poio , Georgia , United States
I’ve walked by Woodstock Music & Arts hundreds of times over the years but never walked in until approximately 15 minutes before closing today. Cailey and her team (Josh and Kevin) were very helpful and stayed late to get me set up with an instrument and lessons. Cailey even stayed over an hour after closing to make sure I was all squared away for my 1st lesson next week. In the almost two hours I spent in the store it was obvious to me how passionate Cailey is about music and helping others, even us novices, find our way. Thank you!
Very knowledgeable staff. Knowledgeable beyond their years, in fact. They don’t stick a lot of products, but I’ve always had a good buyer experience there. Ask for Cat; she always remembers my name and greets me whenever I come in for strings. I recommend them.
Cailey and Tyler were amazingly helpful. They went above and beyond my expectation. I do wish they could have their store name posted outside the Walmart they are located in; if only to bring more awareness to this store and team. I was able to place an order, get our guitar strings put on and sign up for lessons. Both of them were attentive and knowledgeable. We are looking forward to our future lessons as well. I did try filling out a survey using the website listed on the receipt, however that link did not work.
Good service and very knowledgeable
(I ordered online, not blaming this location.)
I recently had the unfortunate experience of ordering a keyboard, keyboard stand, and stool from Music and Arts, and I must say that my overall experience was nothing short of a nightmare. From start to finish, this company has displayed a complete lack of competence and customer service, leaving me frustrated and furious.
First and foremost, the lack of transparency regarding the availability of the items I ordered is inexcusable. It wasn’t until I called them in late January to inquire about my order that I was informed about the backorder situation. I wasted over a month eagerly waiting for my package, completely unaware that it wasn’t even close to being shipped.
Finally, in late March, I received the keyboard, but to my utter disbelief, there was no sign of the promised stand or stool. Naturally, I contacted their customer service department to rectify the situation, only to be met with complete apathy and indifference. They claimed that they couldn’t help and that I wouldn’t receive the missing items. This level of disregard for their customers is absolutely appalling.
To my surprise, a month later, I received a second shipment containing another keyboard, stand, and stool. At this point, I was beyond frustrated. Instead of providing clear communication and instructions, Music and Arts remained silent. I waited, hoping they would reach out to resolve the situation, but instead, I received an invoice in the mail, demanding payment for the duplicate order.
Determined to resolve the matter, I called customer service once again to explain the ongoing issues. Initially, they assured me that I wouldn’t be charged and that everything was under control. However, my hopes were crushed when, a month later, I discovered that they had charged my credit card for yet another keyboard. This not only angered me but also meant that I would have to pay interest on an item I never even wanted in the first place.
Attempting to rectify the situation, I contacted their customer service yet again, only to be met with further frustration. They insisted that they would not process a refund until I returned the unwanted items, putting the burden on me to take time out of my schedule to deal with returning their mistakes to UPS. This added insult to injury, as it is their responsibility to resolve their own errors promptly.
To make matters even worse, the following day, I received a bill from a collections agency, demanding payment for the keyboard that I had never authorized. It is unfathomable that Music and Arts would make an unauthorized purchase on my credit card, showcasing their complete lack of professionalism and respect for their customers.
All in all, my experience with Music and Arts has been nothing short of a nightmare. They have consistently demonstrated incompetence, apathy, and a complete disregard for their customers’ time and money. Not only did they fail to provide the items I ordered in a timely manner, but they also made unauthorized charges on my credit card and showed no urgency in resolving the matter. I strongly advise anyone considering doing business with Music and Arts to steer clear and find a more reputable company that values its customers. Music and Arts, you truly suck!
Terrible customer service and return policies.
Do not waste your time
The lady who waited on us basically turned us down on every option we had to schedule a fitting for an instrument. She didn’t have very good customer service skills. Seems if she wanted our business she would have said “let me see when we can do this for you”. I realize it is a busy time of year but it is not the customer’s fault. I called the Johnson’s Ferry store in Marietta and was met with a much friendlier response.
9. Portman’s Music Superstore
Address: 7650 Abercorn St, Savannah, GA 31406 , Poio , Georgia , United States
Always a delightful experience. It’s always easier to shop online but whenever I go to Portman’s I am greeted sometimes by name with multiple hellos. Always feel very welcomed there. Phil is a wonderful asset and very knowledgeable. I play bass and have purchased equipment for a recording studio as well. They match prices for me and listen to my requests and try their very best to provide me with what I need.
I most recently went in telling Phil that I was looking to add a specific sound to my bass guitar and he set me up with a couple of options and gave me some advice on setting them up, let me play with them a little bit, and I found exactly what I was looking for.
Always a good stop for any accessories as well, whether it be stands, straps, strings, etc…
a pleasure to do business with and glad they are in my town!
Have always done straight buisness with me,since early 90’s ,it’s a music toy store…nostalgia, knowledgeable team, have worked with me in times of need, and even financed my first mandolin, zero interest, no worries, I was very grateful, paid quick, hope no one lost their job on that,Savannah staple, if you need tools of the trade, they’ve had my vote!
My grandpa past away and left his guitar to me . I’m an orchestra gal so I’m not new to strings but guitar was out of my comfort zone . Jeff went above and beyond for me today and I will only bring my grandpa guitar back to this store just for Jeff . He noticed my guitar was dated but did what he could to bring it back to the best playing condition possible! He could have simply told me what strings to buy and restrung it and sent me on my way but no ! He checked for extra problems , cleaned my guitar up for me , even taught me what each part of my instrument was for , down to medium and thin picks ! I can’t wait to learn more about guitars I’m actually going to sign up for lessons . So Jeff when I feel like I’m worthy I’m coming back for a brand new amp and a new guitar ! Thank you soo much . My grandpa would be so proud that I found someone to keep his guitar in good shape !
It’s the vibe of any typical music store, however they were very well-stocked very helpful to my needs – if not overbearing at some times. They had a wide range of products (but not really). If you like music, this is a store.
Cashier is great! Theon too busy at his computer to help you. Unless you are buying something
(Savannah Portmens is trash) Me and my sister went up there to string my electric guitar. The people literally told us it would be 3-4 days max. A week pass no call two weeks then passed, so we call up there and the people are like it’s not under no ones name but we literally put it under my name and my sisters name as a backup. So then they literally tried to keep my guitar. And previous to all that we first asked how much everything would cost and the man checking us out said “it’s a bit expensive can u afford it’s”? It’s cost like 56$ I don’t know if it was cause a race thing cause we was black but it was kinda offensive.
Ok so Ik at first I put two stars. Well I went back recently and it’s all new people there. The person that changed my guitar strings not only put new strings on it. But he also replaced the dial nobs with premium ones. And also polished it. I guess they seen my previous review and decided to better there business with better employees. They earned there third star from me.
I’m a drummer and this stuff is way over priced compared to AMS, and Guitar Center. The sticks are reasonable though. Not really a wide selection on hardware.
I seem to have the same experience as the others who have also left low star reviews. It comes down to one thing: bad customer service. I have no problem with the gear or the pricing or even the location of the store- it’s the staff that turns me off of.
I took my acoustic here to have new strings put on and action lowered. Worst strings I’ve ever had on a guitar. Action wasn’t lowered one bit and got worse and worse. They charged me 75 bucks so I figured I’d get some decent strings atleast. But they obviously put the crappiest ones they could find on it. My solid top Yamaha sounded like a 50 dollar first act guitar when I got it back. Nothing against Portmans music…but whoever the “technician” was for this guitar either didn’t give a f*** or just sucked.
10. JAWS GUITARS
Address: 111 Mountain Vista Blvd #135, Canton, GA 30115 , Poio , Georgia , United States
Great little shop! Jim is a nice guy who’s always been fair on his prices and keeps a surprisingly good selection of mid-range gear. I drive 50+ miles to go there.
Jim the owner is a nice guy, he has great guitar knowledge.
support your local music stores. professional repairs and great service. These guys give fair prices on trade-ins as well.
Great sound equipment at reasonable prices compared to the big box music stores. The gentleman, who I assumed was the owner, was very knowledgeable about everything musical.
Jim, the owner is well informed and super friendly. A pleasure to speak with. Inventory changes often. Fun place to to go exploring.
I needed a setup for my Gibson Les Paul and decided to give Jaws a shot because of their overwhelmingly positive reviews. I dropped of my guitar and told the luthier that I was experiencing a lot of fret buzz. The turn around time was very quick and I was able to pick it up the next day. I was told that there would still be some buzz based on my attack, which seemed like a cop out. I asked if there were any high frets and I was assured that there were none. I took the guitar home and played it to find that I was still experiencing buzzing even when strummed lightly. I pulled out the fret rocker to find that several of my frets were high despite what the shop told me. Overall, this was a waste of time and money and I’m very disappointed with the level of service.
11. Atlanta Musicians Exchange
Address: 2619 Lawrenceville Hwy, Decatur, GA 30033 , Poio , Georgia , United States
They were very friendly and patient and helped me find what I was looking for.
Great no-nonsense music shop. Nice folks who tell it like it is and don’t try to “sell at you.” For those of us on a budget, they give great prices, honest opinions, and genuine smiles!
Great little music shop. They got everything you need to get started at fair prices. Anytime my kids want to learn a new instrument I’ll be going here.
The repair shop sucks
I found the owner to be very unfriendly. I will shop elsewhere. I don’t like to feel like I am bothering someone when I’m spending my money.
I spoke with the most racist person that I’ve come across in a long time, I think it was the owner. My child called the store on the 4th of July (several times because he is a child and did not realize that businesses are actually closed on the 4th of July). I was unaware that he called so many times. The following day I received a VERY nasty and distasteful message on my voicemail. When I returned the call, I wasn’t even given a chance to speak. He was yelling, using profanity and hung up on me. I will definitely tell everyone I know not do business here and I do not recommend doing business here (especially people of color). I will also post it on my social media pages. There are far too many Music stores that actually respect their customers.
After looking at other reviews, it seems that the owner is just a jerk by nature. I didn’t even see any responses to good reviews, only negative ones. So apparently you enjoy tounge wrestling. I feel sorry for the people that have to deal with you daily. Bless you anyway sir.
Update: Every business was NOT closed. I didn’t call my son did several times. You left a nasty vm on MY phone. And who has no class?? It’s definitely you…
12. B2K Music
Address: 490 F, Bankhead Hwy, Carrollton, GA 30117 , Poio , Georgia , United States
Great place lots of options great and helpful staff definitely will be a returning customer.
Hometown heroes
Very friendly has whatever you need and has a nice dog
Prices are inflated.
I dropped my guitar off to have is set up and couldn’t be happier with their work. It’s a 20 year old guitar that needed some TLC and they took care of what was needed while making suggestions on what wasn’t. This is how business should be run, imo. B2K are friendly, knowledgeable and offer good work at fair prices.
Their gear prices are a little higher than what you can
find online but this is to be expected today. I prefer to support local businesses. 4 out of 5, only because I don’t give 5 stars and there isn’t a 4.5. Hehe
Great place to find what you want in music
I wouldn’t recommend them
They’re way overpriced, and they know it. But it doesn’t matter if you have money or not if they don’t like either going to snub you. Very very stick in the ashes, type atmosphere
Awful, awful, awful! The guys who work there are the most unprofessional, unhelpful, people I have ever met! They were extremely rude and just flat out deuchebags!
I’ll never, ever shop there again. Period.
13. Dirt Cheep Pro Audio & Musical Instruments
Address: 2415 S Cobb Dr SE, Smyrna, GA 30080 , Poio , Georgia , United States
Nice and friendly place. Honest folks and good, price and equipments. Peace
Great experience with dirt cheap, Aaron and Mark were very friendly very considerate thanks guys
Me. Steve Franks was amazingly personable, and helpful. Helped us find exactly what we needed quickly and let us explore the rest of the stock peacefully. The establishment is clean, well organized and has a great range of stock.
Could have more enthuse workers
The owner was nice very helpful like this work ethic
Food was good
Their name says it all. I bought a new trombone from there for my son who was starting in the band. He was very proud of it and took very care of it, but within weeks, a joint came apart and we had to get it soldered back together. Not long after that, it broke again and we had to pay to get it fixed. Also the slide never seemed to work well and always makes noise and doesn’t glide well no matter how much we clean or grease it. We’ve also had that looked at a couple of times, but it keeps getting worse.
After all the trouble we had with it, I asked someone in the store about it and he told me it was just a cheap trombone. Funny they never mentioned that or how much trouble we would have with it when we bought it.
I thought we would save money over time by buying our own instrument instead of renting, but after this experience I wish we had rented. Consider how many problems and additional costs you might have if you’re in the same situation. Or maybe try a different store with better quality instruments.
They charged me a 10% restocking fee for an M-Audio USB interface that had flaky drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. When I told them about this problem one of the guys asked if I was running SP1 or SP2 for Windows 7. When I told him no service packs are out for Windows 7 he looked it up right in front of me and had the audacity to say that M-Audio had drivers for Win 7 SP2. This guy was totally clueless. So I got charged $36 because M-Audio had bad drivers. I won’t be going back.
I was not pleased with their return policy. Just make sure that whatever you get there, you never plan to return it. They left a very bad feeling.
14. SMC Music
Address: 28 Central Plz, Rome, GA 30165 , Poio , Georgia , United States
Best music store around for miles!!! Awesome customer service! Thanks SMC for making us feel like family!
Very nice
Love this shop. Nice selection, decent prices and the employees seem to all enjoy music at some level.
Up to date on all of their equipment salespeople knowledgeable no wasted time
I didnt want to be too harsh…the place has a small selection at high prices, but does price match. The guy working there was nice. They can order things for you.
(0) Customer Service
(0) Greeting
(0) Evaluation of my need
Clerk was on the Web, Netflix, etc. with girlfriend beside him
I came in to make a Christmas purchase for my wife.
Moving on…next store and spend my Cash!
This place is awful, The Workers was very Rude, and they and was very much a fraud. They tell one thing on the phone once you come in a They Run your credit the price jump up 1000.00. Be aware they Rent instruments that have been used 3 or more times for the price of a Brand new one.
15. Hootenanny’s Music
Address: 572 Maddox Dr, East Ellijay, GA 30540 , Poio , Georgia , United States
Wonderful staff. Every kind of equipment you can imagine at surprisingly good prices!
Even better yet they graciously host a Hootenanny Jam session every Saturday, open to everyone.
Come join in!
Very friendly people great selection and great pricing. Stop in and play any of their instruments and find yourself walking out with one!
Very down to earth, they make you feel at home. If your interested in buying you can play the instrument
Great prices, friendly people
Went here purely to find an acoustic to put my fingers on while I was on vacation… had 3 electrics because I’m recording on the way back home… but wanted an acoustix… but tbh I had a hard time finding something I could justify. I was looking for a throwaway type instrument but one that didn’t lose intonation when fretting an 11th fret for example, due to string action. Found one I almost bought but decided not to… the only section I was semi into was the very few in the back right side of the building where there was a strat, tele, LP (cant Remember), Martin acoustic….all of which were appropriately priced. None of which were at such a deal I just had to get it… was easy to walk away.
They’ve got a good selection of drums, guitars & other musical instruments & they even buy used instruments!!
16. Portman’s Music Superstore
Address: 3946 Washington Rd, Augusta, GA 30907 , Poio , Georgia , United States
The customer service was the best! Went there for guitar picks and ended up picking up guitar lessons! YOLO
Knowledgeable, friendly, and accessible. My kiddo is taking music lessons for the first time and they made my kid part of the experience, not just a tag along dealing with parents only. Which means a lot.
Very nice store. Great selection of guitars.
Great people but the stuff is kinda expensive.
They have a great selection of instruments and lessons for them! Great staff, very friendly.
The store is a jumbled mess.. prices are high
Dropped off a ukelele on Wed, 5/16, to replace 4 tuners & 4 new strings. Called Friday & was told it was ready. Went to store & it had not been touched. Called Sunday 120PM and was told they would check & call back. Nobody called so an hour later we called and was told it had not been touched and the luthier could start working on it Monday, so we went & picked it up. They did refund our deposit, but no apology for the lack of service.
Rude staff! I needed to exchange a rental instrument for a larger size and was told they needed to order one. That’s fine but after a week when I heard nothing I stopped in and they had no work order or anything for my exchange. It took 20 minutes for them to help me and they STILL didn’t have what I needed. I was renting two instruments from them and planning to buy another one. They lost my business for good with their rude and incompetent employees, go somewhere else and save yourself the trouble.
Wednesday night I went into the store wanted to purchase a new acoustic for myself. it was about 7 I went into the store and was playing a few guitars and found a Taylor I really fell in love with. Now this is a $3,000 guitar so I really wanted to think this out and play it. So about 745 they started locking the door for people going out so I knew I better hurry up so about 7:50 I asked the guy at the counter now to remind you this is the same guy that sold me $1,000 keyboard just a few months ago. I asked him I have one quick question and he says we’re about to close sorry can’t help you so I left the store went home and order the $3,000 Taylor from Sweetwater Music. if you can’t take 10 seconds to answer one simple question especially from somebody that has spent money in this store really don’t deserve my money. So someone else got the $3,000 sale

I truly wish I could give more stars because I used to LOVE guitar center. But after 3 bad experiences I felt that I needed to write this review. The first time was a few months ago when I purchased an expensive Taylor guitar. I got to play it about twice before I noticed that the top strap stud was completely loose and the screw had wallowed out the hole to where it would just pull out (keep in mind I never even put a strap on it). Took it back to this guitar center wanting to return my very expensive guitar and swap it for one that wasnt defective and was denied because it was 3 days outside the return date. I was told to bring it to the repair counter where they just got a longer screw and drove it in deeper. The second time I came in was to buy a Les Paul and walked in the store (which was empty) and shopped around then sat holding and playing one for about 20 minutes before I could flag someone down and tell them I wanted to buy it. They didn’t have one in a box so we ordered one. Once I actually got someone to help me he was very friendly and helpful. I just wished he would have informed me about intonation and the service they offered because I got home, tuned it and played it thinking something was wrong with it. After a bit on google I learned about intonation and Les Paul guitars. So I go back again looking to pick up a case and hoping to get my intonation adjusted. Go to the counter and there is 5 guitars sitting there and the tech says it will be 3 days before he can even get to my guitar. So I say never mind and head to the cases. Again this store is dead it’s the middle of a Wednesday and I stand around looking at this one case I wanted waiting for someone because there was no price shown and I wanted to know how much it was. Waited and waited and waited and not one single person came up to me. So I got sick of waiting and left, you tubed how to set up intonation on a Les Paul and did it myself. I’m going to try the Gwinnett Guitar Center before I give up on them completely. Hopefully they will be better.
Small, weak guitar section, especially the Used area.
The customer service at this store was very poor. Several people were just hanging out behind the counter looking at their phones. No one asked me if I needed help or even looked at me. I asked several people for help and everyone seemed more concerned what was on their phone then my needs. It’s a shame because I love guitar center but these guys just don’t care. If I hadn’t came such a long ways for this guitar I would of just left. I am truly amazed how these guys still have a job.

Best Guitar Center in the metro Atlanta area. All the employees are extremely helpful and nice but there is one that is from Australia….This guy is extremely pleasant and keeps me coming back! Ask for the Aussie!
Great customer service thanks
It’s where I buy all my music items
They got mad when I left without buying something
Love the place.
Large selection of low to upper range new guitars, not so much for higher end.
Ive been looking to get a new set of drums. Was just at the Kennesaw store before and they where super helpful, but didn’t have what I was looking for. So I drove back down to this location was ready to pull the trigger on a floor kit after playing it for a bit that I really liked. I wasn’t greeted when I walked in, and then walked around for a good 30 min without a single person asking if I needed help. Frankly it was a bit of a ghost town. There was a guy up front on the phone and some people in the lesson rooms. Other than that I didn’t even see a single person aside from other wondering customers so I left. Im not a regular by any means but I’ve spent a few thousand with this store over the years before the Kennesaw store was built as its much closer to me. Needless to say I won’t be back and frankly would rather shop at a mom and pop store from now on. I’ve worked and managed retail for nearly 10 years so I take leaving bad reviews seriously.
Waled around fro a good 15 minutes and no one asked if I needed help. Walked towards the counter and one guy was on the phone looking down and the other guy acted like he was so busy he couldn’t even acknowledge me. I felt like I was interrupting him so I just walked away from the counter and kept browsing. Eventually I just walked out the building. .
I normally would give them more stars but was uoset yesterday because we asked a staff for help and he said he was gonna get some one for the department we were in and no one never came so we left !

So much better then guitar center, Jacob was very helpful.
I have always enjoyed coming to this store! The guys here have definitely had a hand in shaping my vocal booth to sound the best it can! Seriously do yourself a favor and check them out for all your music needs!
Good customer service is hard to find these days, but I just had the best customer service experience of my life at Ken Stanton Music in Alpharetta. I just bought a new Nord Stage 3 keyboard from them, and Mario Hernandez was really helpful. He got the board shipped from their Stone Mountain store (Alpharetta was sold out), gave me a quick tutorial when it arrived on how it worked, and then left me alone to just play it to see if it was the right one for me. I decided to buy it, and Mario gave me a great deal. I soon paid up and brought it home. But that’s just the start of the story.
Once I got it home, I became more and more disappointed with the Nord. So much so that I decided to return it. But when I read the return policy, it said there was a restocking fee of 20%. My mistake would cost me close to a thousand bucks if I returned it! So I called Mario and explained my situation. He listened very closely, asked me to wait 2 minutes so he could talk with his manager, and then explained what my options were. Turns out they were very flexible and willing to work with me to take the return. Mario was bending over backwards to relax the “rules” and make me a happy customer. He was even willing to spend time teaching me the ins and outs of the Stage 3 to make sure I was making the right decision. I was floored, and very thankful.
At this point I’ve decided to keep the Nord, but I know that if I had returned it I would have been really happy with the results. So if you’re in the market for keyboard, I can’t recommend Mario Hernandez highly enough – go see him and become an extremely happy customer like I am!
I am visiting from Las Vegas and found Cheney Brannon, in the drum department to be friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to spend a few minutes with me. Cheney will be getting a call from me next year when I will be ready to buy my new Tama Star or Starclassic kit……
Friendly, very helpful
Horrible experience ! My son has to rent a band instrument from this company. We received the instrument at school with the promess that if he would change his mind we could go to the store and exchange the instrument not problem. After 10 days he wanna to change the instrument, we went to the Alpharetta location. NOBODY would know what to do. Firs we were told that we were moot in their system because they haven’t had enough time to enter all the customers of the past 2 weeks. We wait for one hour and a half before someone had a clue of what to do. They were happily taken new customers, new rentals but not us. To make it worst finally the manager figure it out but ran my credit without my personal approval for a “rental”! Are you kidding me???
It was at least 15 employees at the store at that time, even tried other instruments took forever because they did not had enough mouth pieces available. My son had to decided between 2.
I wish I won’t have to go again but sadly our school is working with this company. If you can decide run away as fast as you can.
I bought a flute here then a month later it breaks while doing an E flat I am upset because I went again got it repaired then 3 days later it breaks
I waited a long time to get my things, such as my book, mouthpiece, and care kit. The care kit was not that bad, coming in after about 2 days, but the mouthpiece came after 15 DAYS– For ONE MOUTHPIECE. The book, though I had to wait even longer, but after I called them, I felt better about the service, as the employees were very helpful. The customer service is very good, but the shipping time is cruel.
20. UKE Republic Ukuleles

They know Ukes. Fun and engaging. Good selection for all price ranges. Of course I bought another one. Nice place!
I just bought my first ukulele through UKE Republic and the customer service was the best I’ve experienced in years!
I found UKE Republic through their YouTube channel when I was searching for comparisons and I really appreciated that Mike plays the same tune on every ukulele so you can actually hear the subtle differences between each style and wood.
Imagine my shock when I called UKE Republic to inquire about purchasing an ukulele and I heard the same friendly voice from YouTube greet me on the phone! Mike was so kind, sent me photos of the exact ukuleles he had in store so I could choose the wood grain I preferred, and even made a video playing the instrument before I purchased it so I could hear the sound.
Mike gave purchasing an ukulele online the same feeling as shopping for one in person and he delivers that top-notch service at an affordable price. If you’re looking for the best ukulele buying experience, I highly recommend UKE Republic!
PS – he has 1 more spalted maple pineapple uke in stock!
I had a mixed experience. Through Uke Republic, I was able to get an electric ukulele (which are currently on worldwide backorder). Unfortunately, the one I received had a humbucker that wasn’t correctly attached. Mike sent me some screws to fix it but I’m not familiar enough with ukes to have done it on my own. I ended up paying to have a brand new ukulele fixed. I am sure that if I lived closer, Mike could have fixed this pretty quickly. This is the downside of mail order ukes. Hoping to visit his shop after the pandemic.
I retuned a Ubass to the store by UPS. I have heard nothing from Uke Republic and they have not credited my account after numerous attempts by email and phone. They may be a great store but customer relations needs serious improvement.
I’m sorry to say that I have not had a great experience. I was hesitant to buy online, but after getting assurances from Mike that the Uke would be setup correctly I bought a mid-priced Uke, ($369, not the cheapest on the block.) After receiving it I had the following issues:
1. I broke three 1st strings in the first week.
2. The 1st string tuner was siting so awkwardly in the head that I could hardly turn it.
3. The 3rd string started buzzing as soon as I tried a different set of strings.
Via email, I was advised to sand the nut slot on the 1st string; not something I would have expected to do on a new instrument. Also I unscrewed and adjusted the tuner. Fortunately, that did help with the string breakage. However, I still get a nasty fret buzz no matter what strings I try. In my last email to Mike I asked if I could return the Uke or if he might be willing to reimburse me if I take it to a local tech for work. No reply. Now I’ve spent an additional $45 with my local Tech for nut and fret work. Still buzzing, and the Tech says “it’s the best I can do.” (And this guy knows what he’s doing.)
Frustrating. First and last time I’ll buy an instrument without laying hands on it first.
DISCLAIMER: My initial complaint to them was AFTER the five day return window, but obviously still within the warranty period.
I ordered an Ohana ukulele from Uke Republic back in February. Having only played for about 4 months, I thought I had received a really nice ukulele. However, as my ears became more attuned to what I was hearing during the next couple of months, there was a definite intonation issue – especially when playing the A7 and A9 chords – muddy and awful sounding. The strings were changed on the uke, still the same intonation issue. I contacted Uke Republic, and it was suggested that the humidity and temperature where the uke is stored were too high. WHAT? It is a climate-controlled home, and the uke is stored in a case with a 49% Boveda pack. I was seeking advice on what the issue could be, and after I pointed out that the uke is properly stored, I have heard NOTHING from Uke Republic. They completely brushed me off and will not answer. I do NOT recommend buying from them, as they can not advise on what is wrong with a product they sell. I suspect that they knowingly shipped a problem uke to me.
Edited to add: I took the ukulele to a local luthier, and the action at the nut was way too high. After adjusting that, the weird intonation on the A7 and A9 chords was resolved. (I am offended that it was suggested that it was a humidity issue!) (The action was also lowered at the saddle.) It will have to go back to the luthier because of an intonation issue that has been mapped out on the 6th – 12th frets – the notes are off by 1 to 1 1/2 steps. Frets 1 – 5 sound great and are in tune – the rest are not. Still a problem ukulele, but it will hopefully be fixed soon.
