Updating my review from a few years ago.
I went into this store with my son. He was very curious about the instruments bit didn’t touch a single one, I was warned for some reason to not let him touch anything. They didn’t want to offer help in me looking for an instrument or anything I needed I went into this store once and a very nice man helped with what I was looking for but this visit was very sour with the couple behind the counter to stuck up to help me
Thanks!!
2. Wise Music
Address: 1430 S Main St, Salinas, CA 93908 , Progreso , California , United States
I’ve been playing music seriously now for about four years, and have been playing with my current band for about half that time. In my time as a musician I’ve made my way to Guitar Center and various other second hand stores and pawn shops. However, I can say without a doubt, that Wise Music is the best place to go for your gear and service needs here on the Monterey Peninsula.
Not only do they have a great selection of instruments, but they have a variety of price ranges and performance level products that can suit any musician at any level, and at any price point. This ranges from a beginner’s first Ibanez PJ bass, all the way to professional-grade Fenders and Gibsons. They also sport a variety of horns, folk instruments, drums, and other instruments that you can’t easily get at larger corporatized music stores. (They also redid their interior’s layout since I last went in, and it was quite a treat to see a greater level of consistence in product placement)
Finally, I would like to say that the staff at Wise are all knowledgeable and down-to-earth, something that is lacking in most chain music stores!
I highly recommend Wise Music to all musicians here on the peninsula. It isn’t common to have such a great resource that is easy to access, and doesn’t give a gut punch straight to your wallet!
I do band practice there and it’s so fun.
HEROS! Friendly credible service great sense of urgency really bailed me out easy to find in traffic nice store well-stocked forget Guitar Center forget Sam Ash go to wise music
Relocation is awesome
Friendly, knowledgeable staff and great prices.
Very helpful staff
EDIT:
Terrible customer service. Asking about a product seems like a chore for this store now. Why else would we pay “a little more” for?
I felt like I was just another customer IN THE WAY! Like a corporate chain than a mom and pop shop.
All the friendly helpful workers I grew to love? GONE.
All the friendly knowledgeable staff I grew accustomed to at Wise Music? GONE.
They must have run away like me and my friends are! With our money! $$$
Stop by yourself and compare the store if you haven’t been there in the past few months!
Gilroy Guitar Center isn’t too far away.
Below was my original 5 * review of Wise Music:
What else can be said about Wise Music?
They’ve been around since the early to mid 90’s and the shop still doesn’t feel outdated like some end up becoming.
GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Great inventory and even repairs by Frank are by far the best you can get, as I’ve heard!
Pete, Charles, and Jerry are always as nice and knowledgeable as you would expect from a great musical instrument shop.
Quick and efficient string changes and set ups! Lanky tall kid who works there is pretty cool too, I didn’t get his name.
Plus, you can special order pretty much anything! Just talk to Pete and I know he’ll do the best he can to make us customers walk away with no guilt on our purchases.
Never a bad visit and an easy 5 stars from my experiences.
I hope this shop runs forever!
Visited the store as they are a registered dealer if Teton guitars which I wanted to play. But they had none in stock to try. I was looking for all solid wood guitars. I found a Tagima that was priced like it would be all solid wood. Asked a member of the staff about it. They didn’t know it’s specifications and it was labeled incorrectly so I couldn’t find it on line. After I left the store I found the guitar on line with a slightly different numbering. Anyway I may have been interested but the sales advice was not supportive.
Ok place …the owner… Every time I’m there looking tho the owner kind of gives me a weird vibe then it makes me not want to buy anything after all…
3. Yuba City Music Store
Address: 1527 Starr Dr, Yuba City, CA 95993 , Progreso , California , United States
Eric always has what I’m looking for or can get it for me quick. New or used. Extremely knowledgeable, professional and the store has great prices. I love this place!
My son is taking guitar lesson from Eric and he is a very good teacher. My son loves going to class every week and he has learn a lot in a very short time. He is very affordable, very reliable and consistent. I recommend him as a teacher and his nice store with a lot of instruments.
Eric the owner knows everything about guitars! He also offers great lessons and lots of unique instruments. We have purchased at least five guitars and my husband takes lessons from him. His prices are also very fair.
My son was in need of a flute for junior high band. They had a great price on a used one and were very knowledgeable. Thank you!
Zaful
Not much of a selection,,a lot of really low end pieced together mutt guitars and amps.
Tried very hard to engage counter man in conversation,,but he just preferred to sit quietly while I looked over tiny inventory…..guess I will keep looking for a music store.
4. Stan’s Music
Address: 56636 29 Palms Hwy, Yucca Valley, CA 92284 , Progreso , California , United States
Stan and his Wife are very helpful and friendly and There prices are Great for being a small store. Stan is very knowledgeable and Explain’s things so that even a Novice can understand. They deserve five stars Great people.
Did a great job with our guitar repair.
The only music store in high desert.
Great place ..has everything I need
Browns Music has shut down a compleetly diffrent music store has moved in called Stan’s Music.
Nice folks got some nice things in the shop! BUT I had a set up and string change done after traveling from the east coast and it looked like a child wrapped the strings around the tuners.. and it would not stay in tune (obviously) so would not recommend a set up!
I love the store and their prices but I’ve only ever been able to go in once or twice. They always seem to be closed even when they’re supposedly open. Kind of sucks when they’re the only music store in town.
5. International House of Music
Address: 821 S Los Angeles St, Los Angeles, CA 90014 , Progreso , California , United States
Exelent service..they have everything on stock. Oscar Very friendly and very helpful with your needs,,highly recommend this place
Good
Encuentras así de todo relacionado con la industria musical
Muy caro
Love independent music stores. Fun to visit.
Always a good experience here, but sometimes doesn’t have equipment I need.
Miserable personalities, no information offered tight lipped guys, didn’t act bitter or mean just sad. Fair prices, well lit good location out of the way from the biggest traffic blocks. Thanks guys you still suck. Lol love you.
Me gusta y me convine bien
This was a horrible experience. Nobody was helpful, staff followed me around to “check on me” and not help me out. Also I think they deliberately played loud music so I couldn’t hear myself try out any instrument. Geez!
6. Music Go Round
Address: 944 W Robinhood Dr, Stockton, CA 95207 , Progreso , California , United States
Great used instruments. Will buy used goods if in good condition.
I’ve been a customer here since it opened over 10 years ago, and I’ve yet to have anything but a great experience. Most of my music gear that isn’t either borrowed or bought from the Internet was purchased here. They always have a variety of new things coming in at very reasonable prices, from guitars to amplifiers to congas to almost anything you could imagine. It also doesn’t hurt that the staff is always knowledgeable and friendly, especially Tim and Geo. You can see many of them around town playing music or doing sound for local shows, which helps you know that they’re really into what they do as opposed to just having a random job for money. If I could give a six star review, I would.
Awsome second hand and new audio equipment store. I could easily go broke with all the great deals on high end equipment.
God services and God price
I sold a guitar there they offer me $15 i said is it possible if they I can give me $20 dollars thay told me no it was cheap guitar so I said fine then I went back s couple of days later and they had it up for sale for $80, what do you think is that far I know they have to make there money but that was ridiculous, what’s $5 more dollars going to hurt, realy? not happy about happy about it.
They took 5 days to ship a small package. The label was created but the package was not given to USPS until 5 days later. I called on the 3rd and they told me USPS had not picked it up. I called again on the 5th day and they told me the package was dropped at USPS the day after the purchase which is a lie. Take responsibility for not shipping the item instead of bluntly lying.
Pricey but comvenient.
Went in to get a few items, the service was mediocre at best. Guy behind the counter was not friendly at all. I hope his day gets better.
7. Loud and Clear Music
Address: 8000 Old Redwood Hwy, Cotati, CA 94931 , Progreso , California , United States
Great! Listing my 1966 Fender Mustang with Loud & Clear in Cotati. Great bunch of people there. Had them pull the neck for provenance made August 16, 1966. Great selection of guitars, amps, and wawa pedals! And you can play all day on a bunch of very cool guitars, including a pink HELLO KITTY guitar!
Great place and great people, it’s my go to place in the North Bay. Check it out!
Cheers
Loud and Clear has become the best music store in the north bay for a reason. Great help, great selection of incredible consignment pieces. Great place to just grab new strings or a whole new guitar, not to mention studio/production gear, keyboards, drums, you name it. New location is awesome! Recommended!
Nice people good selection of items.
Limited selection. Stuck with a salesman I could barely understand.
Helpful service and some quality gear.
They’d rather make $50 or so than lose a customer and get a negative feedback. Not sure that’s a winning business strategy in the long run, but best of luck.
So, I’ve been in here twice since I’ve moved from East Bay to Rohnert Park last year. On both separate occasions the staff watches me like I’m going to steal every item in the store somehow. Very, very, very uncomfortable to look up and have every worker in the store staring at you from across the room, yet not one word of helpfulness or a ‘hi’ or anything. I wont be stepping foot in ‘this boy’s club again’.
8. 3FORTEPIANO Music Productions
Address: St, Van Nuys, CA 91405 , Progreso , California , United States
I highly recommend going to Danman’s! The teachers are very friendly and teach me every song I want to learn. The shows at Still Water are awesome and I get to see all the kids do amazing and beautiful songs.
I went in for strings, ended up jammin’ with Brian for little while. Good prices, great selection, and awesome people in there. Check it out.
Amazing music school. Friendly and talented instructors
We went in for a viola mute, and although they didn’t have one, the woman called 4 other music stores trying to find one for us! We were blown away by that and have committed that whenever we need something we’ll be going to Danman’s Music.
We also have several family friends that send their kids to Danman’s and have nothing but great things to say about their teaches – in vocal, guitar and piano.
So far so good!! My daughter really likes Gigi!
Best service. None of the big chain stores come close.
10. Music Village
Address: 2971 Union Ave, San Jose, CA 95124 , Progreso , California , United States
Great shop with really friendly staff, highly recommend!
Good service, nice .
Epitome of a neighborhood mom-and-pop shop, serving the community’s needs with all sorts of instruments and services. We are REALLY glad they are around.
Good place to get guitar strings
I go to music lessons here. It is a great place to shop for many common instruments and to learn them.
Has a huge stock of woodwind instruments and accessories. They have it all, and it makes shopping for all the things my kids need for their band instruments that much easier!
I recently rented a flute for my son. My son tried the flute at the store and it seemed ok. My son came home and practiced it and it had problem. We went back and they tried to repair. My son went to the class and the Flute teacher said that the Flute is leaking and asked us to return it. I rented it on Sat. and returned it on Monday. The still charged even though we mentioned that the flute was bad.
DO NOT RENT FLUTE FROM HERE. Also they charge very high for repair charges. I compared our son’s flute for repair between their shop and another shop. They were expensive by $200.
I will neve go back there.
11. B Street Music & Recording
Address: 1745 Adrian Rd #8, Burlingame, CA 94010 , Progreso , California , United States
Amazing and helpful folks here, will definitely return for my future guitar needs.
Thanks Peter!
I went by here yesterday because I had just bought a guitar at a pawn shop. Peter hooked me up with some basic education and everything else I needed. A little hard to find at the new location, but worth the effort.
Thanks for the memories. Sorry to see it end. Had many great visits to this store, especially at the old location. Best of luck at your new location.
Friendly and they know their stuff.
tiny tiny shop. sad to see they downsized and the people renting musical instruments etc. has declined over the years.
12. Wise Music
Address: 1040 S Main St, Salinas, CA 93901 , Progreso , California , United States
Here’s where you buy stuff ..Pete is the best….by far, player and afficianado in all ,musical related.
Very kind,great customer service
Great staff. I bring in all my old instruments for tune ups or repairs here.
Stopped in to pick up some sheet music. Unfortunately they didn’t have what I was looking for but while shopping I saw they had some really nice guitars.
I hate to write poor-fair for non-existent service. This is the worst business I have ever dealt with in my life. You jack offs lost 260 dollars worth of business on Saturday the 22nd. How in the hell do you stay in business.
