Great service! I always get great support from the entire staff.
Great staff– knowledge, friendly. Lots of product availability and service options.
Clean
One of the staff members didn’t know his cables properly and decided to give us the wrong cables. Which Delayed the start of our event by an hour. Luckily they were close enough to where we could make the switch before it was too long.
Staff was very helpful, patient and knowledgeable about their products and inventory. I was there purchasing guitar strings for my son’s Christmas present. I not only walked away with great gifts for my son, but also my own little tips and suggestions for the future. Thank you, Portman’s!
They had great service and everything I need
Never been
Dropped off a ukelele on Wed, 5/16, to replace 4 tuners & 4 new strings. Called Friday & was told it was ready. Went to store & it had not been touched. Called Sunday 120PM and was told they would check & call back. Nobody called so an hour later we called and was told it had not been touched and the luthier could start working on it Monday, so we went & picked it up. They did refund our deposit, but no apology for the lack of service.
Rude staff! I needed to exchange a rental instrument for a larger size and was told they needed to order one. That’s fine but after a week when I heard nothing I stopped in and they had no work order or anything for my exchange. It took 20 minutes for them to help me and they STILL didn’t have what I needed. I was renting two instruments from them and planning to buy another one. They lost my business for good with their rude and incompetent employees, go somewhere else and save yourself the trouble.

Great little music shop. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Music teachers are great. A hidden gem.
OMG David Galle who wrote a bad review for this awesome store works for the competition at Rock Bottom Music. What a sleaze. If you are going to trash the competition at least do it with half a brain. I’ve been a musician since 1963. In the way back the first project I worked was a gold record. I’ve worked on 60 major motion pictures and TV shows. I have been in more music stores than I can count. When I walk into a new store I test them out. I expect it to be like a used car lot. I ask stupid questions and ask probing questions. These guys passed with more than flying colors. Not only were they the absolute best in knowledge but they took the time to give me some advice I would have never thought of for a new project I have in development.
Is good to have a music store in downtown Augusta….. I personally have been in this store and the owner was very helpful…is VERY knowledgeable about music…… and has instruments no one else carries and has all of the “sundries” we all need and want for our musical adventures….. ….”LIVE LONG AND PROSPER”…..
Good people very helpful
Mike always seems 2 have some edifying and more times than ñotu leave feeling like u⁷u7
Just a poor experience in my visit. Not worth the explanation.
I happened upon Augusta Music Box and Nathan when searching for a piano tuning service in the CSRA area and for that I am truly grateful. He is a true professional–well-informed, courteous, and patient with small children watching his every move. In a few hours, Nathan solved an issue with a few sticky keys, tuned my piano beautifully, and cleaned it so well it literally looks new again. I am incredibly grateful for his time and service and will absolutely use Augusta Music Box again! Also my 4-year-old nephew, who was home at the time, now wants to learn to play piano (a feat I hadn’t yet managed) after hearing Nathan play! Thank you so much!
I knew of Augusta Music Box and Nathan because he services our pianos at Christ the King and he always does an excellent job. My baby grand had not been tuned in a while and now it sounds like a new instrument. Another tuner had told me there was a crack in the soundboard causing a vibration. Nathan checked it out and found it was a wire that was the problem. The vibration is gone and the soundboard is fine. His work was excellent and I’ve never been happier with my piano. Thank you, Augusta Music Box.

Fantastic music store! Great selection and very helpful staff. Bought a Bass, Bass Amp, Strings, Strap, case, cable for about $500!
I was extremely happy with my experience and value on purchase!
Plus they do military discount!
I highly recommend this store for any music gear you may need!
Great place great environment. Kevin amazing sale rep/ manager I’ll be back..
Great staff. They know their instruments and put customer service first. Good I bought my guitars there.
Very helpfu, knowledgeable, professional staff
Local staff is absolutely fabulous!
Kind and helpful each time I’ve visited. They have gone above and beyond to help us with purchases questions and repairs.
BUT, this is a big nationwide company so when it comes to billing questions or issues you have to call thier customer service line and that is always a big hassle in my experience. You can’t update cards and such online, the wait time to speak to anyone has always been 30+ minutes for me and they often give inaccurate information on pricing and/or billing dates.
Honestly, if it wasn’t for the employees in the actual store being so awesome I’d just go through a different company for my child’s band rental, but they really are that good that I’m willing to overlook the corporate problems

I originally was a customer of Brunkow’s Music until they closed down. At the time, there was only one other music store that I was familiar with so I began to do business there. I never was completely happy with this particular music store and I have never been a huge fan of business chains. Then, someone told me about Kirkwood’s. I took my flute in to be repaired and was highly satisfied with the work and the turn-around time. A huge bonus and selling point for me was and still is their excellent customer service! Also they are a locally owned business. I no longer take my instrument anywhere else for repairs and handle all of my music needs there. If they don’t have what I need, they never hesitate to order it for me in a timely manner. I have been a Kirkwood’s Music and Repair customer for 7 years now and have yet to have a poor experience.
Always go here for any needs my daughter has when it comes to orchestra. Never had any issue at all. Was we in band and orchestra at the same time! I know, it’s a lot but her flute happen to need a new pad and it was only a week or 2 before her concert (last school year, again I know.. I’m late posting this! Sorry) we went straight there after school one day they told us no problem to fix it and we rented her one for time being. The time it took to fix was a lot faster than we expected! It was like new again! And she had sound! They saved the day! We have never had an issue. It has been awhile from last time we went seeing how we own her instruments but if we need anything this is the only place we go! Staff is friendly and always answer any questions I have even the dumb ones! I know.. Their great cause I can have some dumb questions! Lol
YESSSS VERY GOOD THEY FIXED MY INSTRUMENT SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT ERROR
Very helpful staff. Excellent choices for piano teaching books.
I have come here for some of my repairs before…but today was the first time I’ve ever seen a business have a sign saying they’re open with the door locked and have on the door saying “I’m in the back working on something at the moment and please wait 10 minutes. If 10 minutes have passed, please read the sign again.” Some customers may have the ability to do so. However, unfortunately my situation is where I have to use a knee scooter due to a disability and had to depend on someone for a ride. I just think thats bad business practice and me personally will have to think twice due to my circumstances.
I dropped off a violin to be repaired in winter of 2021. I called February 2022 asked about it and said “it must have gotten pushed to the back.” Then said they’d start working on it. It is now June 2022 and has yet to be repaired. When I went to pick the violin up because I had yet to be contacted by them, the gentlemen handed me the violin without any explanation or apologies.
Terrible customer service. I brought in an instrument just to be looked at to see whether it needed to be repaired or not. The guy looked at it and gave me attitude while calling it a piece of junk and said that he refused to work on it. He wasn’t willing to work with me at all and offered no reason other than it was a piece of junk. He was extremely rude and inconsiderate. I know I don’t have a $5000 instrument, but at least be polite about it instead of insulting me to my face. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!
Met Vera yesterday. What a sweet kind lady. Place is very hard to find especially way people drive on Washington road. But it is right next to where checkers is sndPiccadilly’s was. Store looked not quite moved in yet but Vera, what later found our was an owner, really made all of those distractions go away. Please find time to go see these wonderful people before we lose another brick and mortar shipping experience
Super polite staff, reasonable prices he was in the middle of a store change so all the stuff wasn’t there yet but I will be back
Super great people!
It’s the same Jays in a new location. They have a nice selection of gear, but be ready for the owners to be on you like hawks to buy something asap.
Not shoppable, no defined path. Much of the stock is in cardboard boxes skewed across the store. The owner pays no attention to the customers. Most products have no price labeled on them, but you can’t get the owner’s attention long enough to ask the prices.
Staff the older gentlemen is not the friendliest and the woman is not too knowledgeable on their products. New location is cleaner than the old one but still stock remains on shelves for a long time and not upkept. A few guitars i played were not tended to. Dead strings and grimey fretboards. Not good
I placed an item on layaway and every time I went to make a payment the store was closed. When I requested a refund I was told that they don’t give refunds. I recommend that NO ONE does business with this place. They are both prejudice and scammers!!!

I took my daughter here to get her violin restrung. When I entered, I was taken back by the charm of the painstaking woodwork, furniture and décor of the gallery which lent an ambience resembling a rustic- elegant style. The establishment was clean and inviting and the friendly red carpet service was very much appreciated. We were able to get our instrument strung on the spot. The work and experience was nothing short of par excellence. I plan on coming back soon to get repair work done on our cello.
Antique Violins of Augusta is a wonderful violin shop. Jonathan and Nathaniel are so kind and knowledgeable about what they do. I needed to get my viola bow rehaired and they said it would take a week, but it was done in only a few days. This was my first visit to the shop, but it certainly will not be my last because I completely trust them with anything my instrument might need in the future.
Now that I have discovered that Augusta has a luthier, this has become my favorite spot. I have taken my instrument into the shop to have a few repairs done, including reshaping a bridge, adjusting the sound post, planing the fingerboard, and reshaping the neck of my violin. The quality of the work was top notch, and I had my violin back the same day for the minor work. For the more complicated repair, the owners actually let me borrow one of their instruments while mine was being worked on, a really nice service that I hadn’t even expected. Nathaniel and Jonathan are both very friendly and helpful, and you can tell they really care about the work they do. Antique Violins of Augusta is now my go-to music store.
They are horrible at returning phone calls or emails. I have called several times but no one has responded.
