Great place to go.Got my new clasical guitar there.
Great customer service
Big
Friendly & knowledgeable but took longer than expected to get instrument serviced. I was told would be called the next day with estimate, & it was 3 days before I received the call. I told them I had to get instrument back by a specific date for a performance, he said “not a problem”, I was calling them to get it back 4 days before performance, & was able to pick it up the day before it. They kept it for a month, & I was never able to speak directly to guy doing service which was not cheap. Don’t be in a hurry when dealing with them!
Nice; they’ll order in for u
They have good instruments, but when I walked in, I walked straight past about 3 or 4 employees who were unoccupied at the moment and nobody said a word to me. I will never visit or buy from them ever in my life.
If you drop your instrument off for an estimate get it in writing with a signature from the manager that they will not work on it.
I walked in to pick up my trombone from an estimate, started walking out and was told I owed money. For what? I did not authorize anything.
It’s too bad this shop is the only option in Birmingham. Check out Bailey Brothers to see if they have what you need first.
Friendly attentive staff, but not a single guitar cleaning product of any kind except what they had open for their own use. Don’t really understand that… Part of owning an instrument is maintenance
5. Jerry’s Music
Address: 1140 25th St W, Jasper, AL 35501 , Carrollton , Alabama , United States
I bought my 4th Guitar from Jerry’s Music Saturday Aug 10 2019. Here is #1 00017 Smoke Martin, #2 a mahogany Martin special and #3 the best guitar I have played “a Gorpherwood 720ce” until Saturday the 10th. That is when I walked into Jerry’s and was talking to my friend Dale “salesman of the year” and looked up and saw my holy grail of guitars. Dale immediately went into action and grabbed it from the rack and held it in front of me until he saw me drooling a little. He then gave to me my future bucket list guitar. My wife Jenn and I sat around the store for hours playing the guitar and talking to Dale about life, music and of course that guitar. My wife and I bought our 3rd Martin from Jerry’s, A Martin HD28e with Anthem L.R. Baggs pick up. Great tone, great service and a great person to buy guitars from a genuine down to earth person with integrity.
Thank you Mr Dale and Jerry’s Music. I’d rather buy from Jerry’s than any big chain music store.
Resting place
Great visit
Good place good guy.
Very helpful, friendly employee
Big selection
Prices way too high
Old building but new instruments with knowledgeable owner
6. Jasper Music
Address: 52 N Walston Bridge Rd suite 104, Jasper, AL 35504 , Carrollton , Alabama , United States
Highly recommend! Nick is a great music instructor and very knowledgeable in instrument repair. Great selection in accessories and instruments as well.
Nick has been fabulous as a guitar instructor for my son!
If you’re looking for a professional music service in Northwest Alabama, look no further. Nick is knowledgeable, professional and is a fantastic instructor. He has the uncanny ability to listen to, understand and then focus on the goals of you, the student.
I have also taken several instruments to Nick to be worked on, from a string change to a full set up on a new instrument. He has also repaired several that I’ve been a little rough with.
All in all, whether you’re looking for a lesson or just want to find a new piece of gear, this is the place to go!
The music store had the banjo strings I needed.

Great place lots of options great and helpful staff definitely will be a returning customer.
I take all my guitars here for work when they need just that little bit of extra attention to play perfectly. Great local music store!
Welcoming, friendly atmosphere. Store owners are very helpful and informative of their products. They helped my youngest daughter find the right guitar out of the many she tried in their store. She also has been taking lessons there for over a year now. You are welcome to stay in the store during the lessons. Great people, very nice.

Great place to find what you want in music
Dog to greet you… my kid is a little timid around animals so the barking came close to making us leave. The not being greeted was another miss, but I am a glutton for punishment…. I did make a purchase but don’t think I’ll be going back for anything…. just not as outgoing or friendly as we are accustomed to… some times we get comfortable because we have a monopoly, no other business in a close proximity. And new people don’t matter…I want to say, we should all matter and one shouldmake every effort that clients and customers know they are appreciated. Also “all sales final” after paying was a little out of order…. that only came out because I asked while being rang up what happens if something is wrong … but you get the idea. Don’t go with big expectations and you should be okay.
Prices are inflated.
I wouldn’t recommend them
They’re way overpriced, and they know it. But it doesn’t matter if you have money or not if they don’t like either going to snub you. Very very stick in the ashes, type atmosphere
Awful, awful, awful! The guys who work there are the most unprofessional, unhelpful, people I have ever met! They were extremely rude and just flat out deuchebags!
I’ll never, ever shop there again. Period.
8. Homewood Musical Instrument Co
Address: 1712 28th Ave S, Homewood, AL 35209 , Carrollton , Alabama , United States
Knowledgeable, talented, and friendly. He took time to explain the process of repairing the 2 guitars we left. Awesome people, busy lil shop. We’re looking forward to our trip bach there to retrieve the guitars. Well worth the 2 hour drive.
Have all of my guitars setup here, quality work, good people.
Bob, the owner, is amazing. He knows guitars and is an expert player. Some very interesting vintage guitars for sale as well.
Good product, Good service.
Friendly atmosphere and lots of instruments.
I’ve never dealt with someone so rude over the phone. The owner tried to guilt me with sarcasm and acted like victim when I questioned a price. Full story: I asked to order a cello string. All was going well (owner answered questions about speed of shipping and availability of the string), but then he quoted a price ($81) that was far above what other shops charge. I said respectfully that “I’ve purchased the string for $45 at other walk-in shops” and he became sarcastic and argumentative with me, claiming he was “holding my hand” through the process, and said “Well, I have to pay $35 for this string so what do YOU think is fair for ME to make? $15? What is 35 + 15, huh? Ohhh, maybe $50 is more than you can afford?” A simple, “well this is my price” would have been fine as a response from him, but I felt disrespected so I hung up and decided I’m never going to spend a dime Homewood Musical Instrument Co. I advise everyone else to steer clear of this shop and the guy who owns it.
9. Martin’s Music
Address: 5000 US-280 Suite C, Alexander City, AL 35010 , Carrollton , Alabama , United States
Excellent knowledge and customer service.
100% would recommend for any guitar sales, service, or any of your other musical needs.
Stopped at this location to get a part to repair my guitar. Very professional and helpful. Owner was very nice and went out of his way to find me the right part and gave me an excellent deal. Highly recommend this business to anyone.
Andrew is the most knowledgeable person I’ve come across on instrument history and repair. He will be the only one that repairs any of my equipment from here on out.
10. Gadsden Music Company – Birmingham
Address: 4524 Southlake Pkwy, Birmingham, AL 35244 , Carrollton , Alabama , United States
Very helpful and knowledgeable about musical instruments.
We have only used Gadsden for a year but it’s reliable and easy. We got an instrument in less than 20 minutes and the store is small but has most the essentials you need. They do instrument cleanings fairly cheap too. And when we go staff are always friendly and are always here to help. We recently returned an instrument and the process was super easy and simple.
Mm masomenos
No Gibson guitars.
I was easily able to drop off my trumpet for repair.
I was looking for an instrument on a budget and they said they didn’t in a rude manner and while walking out, I heard them laughing at me. Absolutely disappointed that people would treat potential customers in such a manner.
The rent to own program is an absolute scam. Staff is rude and misogynistic. Buy used on Facebook before you agree to whatever shady deal your school band director serves you from Gadsden Music. The “resale” on that 1400$ trombone is $200 and you’ll pay $600 in interest. Scam scam scam.
The Birmingham location is by far the RUDEST place I have ever encountered! The staff is HORRIBLE (outside of Ms. Carolyn Gadsden)! Whenever you call they don’t seem interested or concerned with conducting business. My child’s instrument was in the shop for over a month. I left several messages and emailed only to be told they stopped working on it and needed my credit card info first. When the rep visited the school, I was given a flyer that clearly states the instrument will be repaired and then you are to pay. I am highly disgusted! My child’s grade has been effected as a result of the long wait times and the staffs inability to effectively communicate with its customers. DO NOT deal with them if you have other options!!! Smh!
11. Bailey Brothers Music Company
Address: 4673 US-280 Suite # 7, Birmingham, AL 35242 , Carrollton , Alabama , United States
Awesome store, very large diverse selection of fine acoustic and electric guitars. Many other fine instruments. I was just there for the guitars. The sales people here are very helpful and nice!
Bailey Brothers is one very well-staffed and well-stocked retail music store. The staff is knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. From beginner to professional instruments of the highest quality, they have perhaps the most thoughtful selection in Birmingham. Also for many years they are who I have chosen to service my guitars.
I bought a tama superstar classic from Bailey Brothers, and was very happy. The staff member that i worked with was david he was very helpful and nice. i highly recommend this music store!
Good selection of musical equipment. Be prepared because they strictly enforce the muzzle mandate inside. They make you wear masks.
Great customer service. Great selection. However, I was NOT thrilled to see their logo custom printed onto the snare head I bought. Would have received 5 stars if not for that. Going to remove it with some acetone.
I needed to buy instruments for my Middle School kids. They were very upfront with their prices and seemed to have the best deals.
Dishonest, and disrespectful. While I’m aware they have an “all sales final” on used gear policy, it is their responsibility to properly inspect the gear they take in and not sell something that is damaged internally (in my case, a guitar amp). Idiot salesman also had a smug grin on his face the whole time my brother and I were having to deal with it (all 5-6 hours) and was making snooty comments back and forth. In a nut shell they sold me a dead amp and then laughed in my face about it. If this is how your business treats customers, don’t expect to be a business for long. I attempted a purchase with Bailey Brothers about 8 years ago. Was not a pleasant experience. This one wasn’t either. Rest assured, that’s it. I will not be back.
Update: Hey the owner called me just to prove they really do not care about customers. Tried to minimize what happened, and basically acted exactly like Keith did. Also a robotic “I apologize but we’re not going to do anything to fix it” does not count as rectifying anything. Gee wonder why the Southside store closed! Oh yeah and if you have a bad experience with them and they don’t own up to it they’ll do like any typical teenager does and tries to badmouth you on Facebook, then stalk your page. Very mature. Screenshots are great though aren’t they?
PS: Oh and buddy, if I were mad and desperate to pay my rent, then why in the heck did I buy a $700 amp from you? Nice try.
Don’t answer the phone
Waited 15 minutes for someone to help me but instead was ignored. Ended up leaving empty handed. I literally just needed drumsticks and the person at the front was aware. Will never go back.

13. Art’s Music Shop, Inc
Address: 3030 Eastern Blvd, Montgomery, AL 36116 , Carrollton , Alabama , United States
I really love this place, its really chill and everybody was very helpful. Anything you need, they will help you with it, instrument repairs/ adjustments, rotary/ piston oil, guitars, ANYTHING!!
Wonderful staff, they were very helpful during our visit.
They fixed my wife’s antique violin with skill and for less than I expected.
Friendly staff.
I went looking for a 6string bass guitar and was disappointed. They mostly had 4string basses and only two 5string basses… maybe 10 bass guitars all together. Wasn’t impressed with their inventory.
Great staff, very helpful, quick in and out service. Easy to find!
2 years ago my son started playing the trumpet. Arts came to the school as students were signing up. We financed the trumpet through Arts. For 2 years, $88 was auto drafted from my account. Do the math, but that’s over $2,000 for a trumpet. Not one late payment.
5 months ago I closed that account and opened another. My fault for not remembering Arts, but again, I’ve never physically made a payment. I make no excuses though. This was MY error. Arts say they have sent me letters and text messages. I’ve never received one.
Last week, my 13 year old calls me from school saying Arts had called his band director and I need to call their office. All of the sudden, I remember! I said I would call them when I got home. A few hours later my son calls me again from school and hands the phone to a lady from Arts who was at his school. Through poor reception, as I was on Fort Benning, in Martin Army hospital, we had a partial conversation where I agreed to call the office when I got home.
Not even 15 minutes later, my son sends me a text message telling me this lady took his trumpet.
I owed less than $500 and had paid over $2,000, but they found it necessary to come to my kids school and take his instrument from him rather than attempt to work it out.
3 days later I paid them the $500 and now have to drive 2 hours to their Dothan location to pick up the trumpet.
I don’t do reviews. I generally haven’t ever felt the need, but if this isn’t the most absurd customer service I’ve had, I’m not sure what is.
They did not text and might have sent letters, but I have moved twice in those 2 years. I didn’t receive them.
But if they were able to text, why not call? They called the school band director. Why not call me? Just ridiculous!
For a $2500 trumpet, that should include some customer service skills, or at the very least, a smidgen of human decency.
Very rude and laughing….you have to have amazing credit to get approved
They really price gouge parents of high school band kids. My daughter needed a clarinet. The salesman convinced me that for $90/month she could have a durable, great sounding, top-of-the-line instrument. Well she got to play it for 1 season because of Covid-19 causing cancellation of most of the events. So basically she got a couple months of usage and I had to pay on the thing for years, amounting to about $4000. Then they offered me $400 to buy back the clarinet that was still in pristine excellent condition. I probably would have taken $1500, but I think they could have offered at least $2000 since they can easily resell the instrument. To add insult to injury they made me pay $50 to ship it back to our house after it took them almost 2 weeks to appraise it at the store 3 hours from here in Mobile because I rejected the offer for $400. If anyone needs a nice wooden clarinet, find me on FB and message me. I’ll give you a much better deal than Art’s.
