Love this place! Great customer service! Prices are fair. Definitely recommend going here before going to a larger hardware store.
They’ve got everything! Helpful staff and friendly too. If you need anything fastened, they have the right stuff.
good for locals, small but stocked up.
I shop here regularly…great service.
Its okay for a quick stop but don’t waste your time on lumber or “big ticket” items.
This is a very good hardware store but at the moment I give it a low rating because we took our chainsaw them for repairs. They outsource the repairs and now neither of them know where the chainsaw is. It’s been 6 months. VERY DISAPPOINTING
Bought copper pipe from them the 28th of January was charged 62 dollars and some change for 8’ of copper pipe. Cashier supposedly refunded me my 62 after I realized I was way over charged even for true value prices. Cashier processed a new transaction for 4’ of copper for 12 dollars and some change. Never got my refund for the 62 dollar charge so I paid 74 dollars for 4’ of copper pipe!
Informed I couldn’t vape in the store. I stopped then the manager came over with attitude and asserted her authority over me……. Or tried and exchanged some not so kind words.
2. Skip’s Music – Sacramento
Address: 4614 Madison Ave, Sacramento, CA 95841 , Rio Linda , California , United States
A small paradise for musicians. New and used instruments and gear.
A Legacy in the Sacramento Music scene. Everyone in Sacramento who is seriously into music knows Skip’s is one of the best in the area.
Awesome equipment. Knowledgeable personnel
Good service
Ship’s has everything for singer/songwriter.
It’s one of those places that is what it is, a music store, with musicians working there.
Cody: “I’m sorry you’ll need to put a mask on”
Me: “oh I’m sorry I have a health condition”
Cody: “sorry it is our policy if you don’t wear a mask you can’t come in”
Me: “ ohhhh so you guys discriminate against people with health conditions?”
Cody: “oh yeah I guess we do then!”
Me: “ok you will NOT get my business then!”
Cody: “see yah”
(Paraphrased)
Discriminatory and communist ideals! Will never be back. Just wanted a djembe and small guitar amp but wasn’t able to browse like other people. Sad.
I went to this store for a power conditioner. I purchased a Furman M-8lx for $189.95… it retails for $79.99 on Sweetwater. Had I not needed it immediately I would’ve never bought it. I understand a mark up but over 100 is absolutely ridiculous
First off, there are some very knowledgeable sales staff here. The lutheir does great work as well. The amp tech leaves something to be desired. I buy lots of guitars and amplifiers. I don’t like wasting money, I do my best at doing my homework before I purchase. I called and talked to the amp tech who first tells me he tries when I asked him if he was the tech. I tried to have a simple conversation about tube amp reliability issues. I wasn’t asking him to bash a company, just simply make some suggestions on some amps that he does not have to repair all the time. I also wanted to know if pcb’s are worth it repair wise or handwired. All I got was attitude and him pushing me to the sales department. You claim you are for local musicians, if we can not have a honest discussion before I once again blow another 1000 dollars or more for another amp, what’s the point in me coming to skips music for my needs? My money is accepted everywhere. I have many options. I like to support American businesses and local shops. This is the second time this business has waisted my time. I definitely did not deserve attitude. Since there is a lack of professionalism, I will not be back.
3. Tim’s Music
Address: 6818 Fair Oaks Blvd, Carmichael, CA 95608 , Rio Linda , California , United States
What a great place with the most positive atmosphere! As an adult beginner, I was afraid to go into a real music store for fear of feeling like a life failure in the presence of Actual Musicians. What I didn’t know was that at Tim’s I would be treated so kindly. They have all sorts of resources for those of us getting back into learning or just starting out.
I used to go at Northridge Music on Greenback years ago, afterwards reorganized the Mall Strip there were no place nearby to service brass or sax’s , guitars, violins or .
Tim’s place on Fair Oaks Blvd its nicer, bigger and plenty of rooms for Rehearsals or Concerts. Friendly staff makes you feel home. Loved loved the place.
Awesome place awesome people
Nice and knowledgeable staff
Lots and lots and lots of gear here. If you’re looking for anything for orchestra style instruments, they probably have it, Great way to try things on for size. Good, high quality instruments.
Friendly staff and adequate selection for student musicians.
This would be zero stars but a plug is warranted for John Doolittle’s sax lessons at the store of which I availed myself a couple of times. Zero stars involves me taking my alto sax there for repair. It’s over 50 years old but has had some restorative work done; fairly significant when I started playing again regularly about three years ago and more minor work several months ago and again following my unpleasant experience at Tim’s, the former by Kline Music and the latter by The Music Store in Rocklin. The guy at Kline is particularly known for his competence. The purported lead expert on reed instrument repairs at Tim’s told me my Selmer Mark VI needed a $1500 complete overhaul and they wouldn’t touch it for any lesser amount of work. The guy in Rocklin then fixed it for $65 and it plays just fine, as it did before it started acting up shortly before I took it to Tim’s. I played in church today and was complemented on my tone by their music director, who is a school music teacher and fellow owner of a Selmer Mark VI. An instrument in need of complete renovation obviously could not produce such a result. I got a different feel from the store than I did when I took lessons from Doolittle at the old location. Maybe they’ve bitten off more than they can chew financially but they’ve certainly lost my business.
I have purchase and rented instruments here before. This time, five different staff said they would help, apparently what I wanted was not in stock and instead of letting me know, all left me waiting. After quite a wait we decided to leave. Someone caught us leaving and took our number to call and figure out how we could get ahold of the instrument. That was over 8 weeks ago, my phone never rang. They’ve lost a loyal customer.
4. Kline Music
Address: 2200 Sutterville Rd, Sacramento, CA 95822 , Rio Linda , California , United States
They have so many types of instruments but I ordered a manual guitar.
Very Professional .. Highly Recommend , great selection from kids to adults .
A very good store for the serious musician
I’m a long time musician. I’ve been here many times over decades. I have to admit that I often feel as if I’m being watched when I go here. My guess is they get people stealing items a lot. I only come here when I know exactly what I need and I’m in and out.
Parking here is terrible! Spots are tight and if you have a full-size truck or SUV, I would park on the side street. I’ve had a son who took lessons here at one time, and I did as well many moons ago. Overall, that was a good experience. This is one of the only places with an extensive sheet music collection.
Nice place. Came for info on integrating my digital piano
Love this place, squeeze in parking…
Wish they had shopping carts! Great help. I have been buying harmonicas. But you only get the case and a parts breakdown.. No other info. on type, key, notes ,care instructions. When I buy, I like all the little extras..not just a case and instrument. I’ll probably go online next time for harmonicas. But everything else here seems terrific! They also have lessons!!!
Never shopping with Klines ever again! I live 3 hours away so I wanted to make sure Klines had 2 of the same pickups, so I called first and they said yes. I spent the gas, hours of driving only to learn they had one and he tried to sell me a more expensive pickup for the second. I told them I was not willing to pay the higher rate and instead of adjustable their cost they told me to go elsewhere… I did and from now on, I always will.
I was looking for advice on a item and maybe I wasn’t clear enough. But I felt rushed to make my decision.
Not very helpful at all very snobby. It’s to bad wanted the electric drum kit and asesorie lost a good sale.
5. Music Exchange | Piano Store in Sacramento, CA
Address: 1537 Howe Ave Unit 206, Sacramento, CA 95825 , Rio Linda , California , United States
They had exactly what I was looking for at prices better than I could find anywhere. Customer Service was outstanding.
Love this store. Jeff was very helpful in helping me to decide which piano should I buy. Then he showed me this Yamaha GC1, it sounded very, very nice and I also got a big discount. The piano was delivered within three days. To make the story short, I am very, very happy. Thank you Jeff. I highly recommend this store for shopping piano.
Friendly and great service!
From outside looks like it was remodeled 50 years a go,, inside a lot of pianos very nice salesman, prices are high” , cheapest baby grand piano was like 12k
Where dreams come true
You can’t just came and check any pianos, you must have appointment with them
6. McDonald’s
Address: 400 Elkhorn Blvd, Rio Linda, CA 95673 , Rio Linda , California , United States
Service is fast and friendly. Restaurant is always clean. Bathroom, though only one stall, is clean and always has enough paper products. And to top it off the food tastes good. Really like the large drinks for $1.
Fast food prices have risen so sharply that the drive thrus are far less crowded. Works for me. Using the app is a must. Save time hassle and money.
Good place, good food, good God let’s eat.
Just your average Micky D’s…
Ok
It was good
Always leaving something out and 14.00 for what?
Death food.
I went through the drive-thru ordered two McDoubles two McChickens when I got to the window I asked him to add on a 20 piece chicken nugget because I have forgot I got to order them when I got to the window to pick up the food I realize that he didn’t charge me for everything so I told them that he forgot to charge me for the rest will after I paid for the rest they gave me the four McChickens and four McDoubles but they didn’t give me my 20 piece chicken nugget and they told me that that was it when I knew that I was missing an itemand normally I don’t even do reviews but for the simple fact that the 20 piece chicken nugget was for my kids is what got me upset
7. The Music Store
Address: 4815 Granite Dr, Rocklin, CA 95677 , Rio Linda , California , United States
Has amazing lessons from really nice and good teachers. Also sells a variety of instruments
My sons mouthpiece got stuck in his trumpet. We walked in and they removed it for us at no charge. The service was awesome and they are very knowledgeable. We will definitely be back! And they have private lessons at a very reasonable charge!
My visit here today was great and the gentleman that I spoke with earlier (Kevin) even put the violin that I was coming to purchase for my daughter out so I could easily come in and pay then be on my way. The price was alittle more than I really was budgeting but once she opened and saw the violin I got for her she almost cried and can’t wait to show it off Sat when she has her performance.
Thank you so much Kevin for your help and making my first visit here perfect Very Much Appreciated!!
Friendly staff and very helpful.
I rented a used violin for my son from the shop. They said the price was $199. The rental was $35 per month. after two months if you want to own the violin then they said they would deduct the rental amount from the original price. But when we want to buy the used violin they said the price is $299 which is hell more than a new violin. So would recommend not to rent or buy anything from this store.
8. The Strum Shop
Address: 209 Vernon St, Roseville, CA 95678 , Rio Linda , California , United States
This place was a sweet surprise! It’s in a nice location, but parking is a bit difficult. That’s my only complaint. Randy walked me through the basics of guitars on the market and told me so much about our Grandpa’s guitar that I brought in to be serviced. It’s a great place for 3 solid reasons:
1) Knowledgeable and caring staff — never felt rushed; never felt like my lack of knowledge was ridiculed, nor did I feel patronized.
2) Sales pitches were gentle and considerate of my need to stay on a budget. I was excited to find a lovely, gently-used Fender. Because I bought a whole package, he even extended a discount! Like, WOW!
3) It’s a local, non-big-box shop with personalized service. Along with that, helping the ‘little guy’ and supporting my local community just feels so good. Especially when getting the exact same guitar would’ve set me back an additional $80 on Amazon! Like, WHOA. Who knew?!?
I am forever a customer. Well done Strum Shop!!
The folks here are very knowledgeable and the music teachers are outstanding!
It have discount mercendise too .
Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful. Street parking is iffy. Rear parking and entrance is unmarked.
High Prices
I brought a guitar to adjust the action. Dan did not place the parts I asked for saying he did not have it on stock. Inaccurate repair job with replacing the guitar nut. Honestly I could adjust my guitar better than this “professional repair master” “Doctor” Dan. Waisted $80. Very unsatisfied. I would not recommend any repairs in this shop/store.
I originally came in to get a new nut cut for my Gibson SG. The repair took longer and cost more than originally advertised, and the repair man left several issues that I had to fix myself (buzzing on A and low E, new tuning problems due to roughness of nut slots, high action, used strings other than the ones I’d left for him and specifically asked for him to use). Fortunately, however, when I brought this up with the shop, out of the $50 that I was charged, I was refunded $40 labor cost. (Still on the hook for $10 though).
EDIT: The manager for the Strum Shop started hassling me over text message after I posted this review. LOL.
They lost my instrument and won’t return my calls. I brought an instrument in for repairs, they gave to their vendor, I talked with the vendor and he said it would be done in two weeks. After a month with no word I started calling, and they have ignored all messages I’ve left.
9. The Nicholson Music Co.
Address: 636 E Bidwell St, Folsom, CA 95630 , Rio Linda , California , United States
A local landmark. I’ve been coming here for over 20 years. Excellent staff. Knowledgeable and friendly.
I stopped in at Nicholson Music for the first time today. This is a top quality local shop selling a wide range of guitars. All of the guitars are set up, which is a HUGE plus over the bog box stores (and some independent stores, as well).
Yes, you need to ask for assistance to try a guitar. But this keeps the guitars looking good, the strings fresh. I did wait a few minutes for the owner to help me because he was on the phone with another customer. When he was able to help me, he was very attentive and very knowledgeable. I tried out several very good sounding guitars. He specs a lot of custom Martins and most of them were very good sounding. I played the best sounding Breedlove I’ve every tried, too.
Other music shops of this quality are several hours away. The Sacramento area is very lucky to have a shop like this. I live over the hill in Nevada and will be happy to drive a couple of hours to visit this shop again in the future.
The big box scene where any guitar on the rack is up for grabs to play results in shop worn guitars, dead strings, etc. If that’s what you want to do, go to GC. GC doesn’t set up their guitars, they are shopworn…you get what you pay for.
Nicholson Music is the REAL DEAL for those who enjoy quality instruments. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I’ve experienced a good customer service however all sales are final.
Nice place for music lovers
Love their selection of instruments and music books. Great service. The cafe is awesome! They hold a free Ukulele sing a long on Saturdays, super fun!
I bought my Martin at the store five years ago and they were very friendly but I recently went in to buy a sound pick up for my guitar and the man was immediately very rude to me.
I told him I would do my business somewhere else and I walked out.
I used to have my guitars worked on here; but I wouldn’t let them touch them now. Their luthiers literally talked me out of doing business with them ever again. They have a nice stock of instruments, so in that respect they are OK.
The man in the back was extremely rude to me. Totally ruined my great mood. Worst way to make a sale. Ill shop elsewhere.
10. El Dorado Hills Music, LLC
Address: 873 Embarcadero Dr Suite 1, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762 , Rio Linda , California , United States
Excellent customer service and knowledgeable staff! Had everything we needed in one place and at affordable prices!
Cameron, the owner, is really nice and helpful, not to mention he knows what he’s talking about
Great guys over there I’m a beginner and went in there looking for an affordable acoustic guitar they really helped me out not knowing to much abt guitars and helped me pick a good one still on the lower end price wise I will definitely be back and they are really nice and funny guys
Their music selection was a bit small but they had everything I needed at a very reasonable cost.
The line was crazy long and they were extremely under staffed.
Did not have a kazoo
11. Northridge Music Center
Address: 7871 Greenback Ln, Citrus Heights, CA 95610 , Rio Linda , California , United States
brien is the best tech ever…he set up three of my guitars and each one now has perfect touch and is so easy to play…thanks..bill ropple ,north highlands
Sad to see they are going out of business.
It’s OK. Not a huge selection of instruments and the lessons are pricy. I had high hopes for this place because there isn’t a great music store in the close area and this place is missing the opportunity to be great.
Always been a great location with plenty of parking. Staff is always helpful and knowledgeable. I’ve come here for myself many times and now I visit for my kids. It’s a really great place to have around.
Staff are very helpful and friendly. I bought a viola from online, but the school music teacher does not know how to tape it. (use tape to label the notes at neck) so I called around. A lady from Northridge Music spent 20 minutes to tape and tune my viola for free even I bought from somewhere else. I also called the store a couple of times, they always pick up the phone quickly and answer my questions.
This store is a small business, so they need use the spaces well. So with that, the score “very good” really means best in their situation.
