Jake has always done good work at reasonable prices. I would highly recommend their services.
Always good service
Tiny shop…Big on service….we’ve used Jake’s for general maintenance and repairs( emergency or not)..on our flute for years. Always able to help, and give truthful advice. Highly recommend..
I also believe they give lessons too…
Thanks Jake!!!
Was and wasn’t very helpful. But I did receive the necessary information that I needed to move forward.
Great neighborhood repair shop.
Very nice, good pricing and repairs done in a very timely fashion.
Never got a call back. Guess they don’t want my money for repairing a clarinet v
I’M ADDING THIS FOR THE STORE TO RESPOND: THERE’S NO INDICATION THAT HOURS ARE “BY APPOINTMENT ONLY” UNTIL YOU DRIVE ACROSS TOWN. PLEASE FIX THIS. THANK YOU

Javi went way above and beyond my expectations while I purchased the guitar I finally decided on. I’m ecstatic about my price-matched Taylor guitar with lighter strings! Thanks, Javi!
Great friendly workers
Nice people to do business with
Guitar selection looked lean. Maybe it was the drain from black friday shopping.
Not much like it used to be. Very little inventory. Glad it’s there but wish it was the old Guitar center
My daughter attended a free guitar session and we ended up signing up for a month of weekly 30 minute sessions. The manager and teacher were very nice and very knowledgeable.
If I could give them zero stars I would. The store layout is nice and the location is close to home, but the manager, Dan, is the absolute worse. We are a non-profit and this genius told us that we would have to write a letter to ourselves in order to do business there. We are the founders and co-founders of the organization…with proper identification and paperwork and a Guitar Center Credit card and this individual told us to write a letter to ourselves to give ourselves permission to shop there. These are the folks that Guitar Center has placed in the role of management. Is that the most ridiculous thing that you’ve ever heard? He treated us like idiots and I hate to play the race card, but he went out of his way to make us feel like he didn’t want our business there and told us to go to an Indiana store. And when I asked for the number to corporate, he told us that the corporate office calls him for information. Insane…I hope that their corporate office is reading this…
If you are a songwriter do not listen to the sales people. They will sell you something for a person with a band because they likely have a band. You will get home and you will have smoke coming out of your ears because you will likely be disappointed with the trash they sold you. Do not listen. Get a recording bundle online and save yourself the hassle of trying to get what you need from a person who has no clear understanding of what you are trying to do.
No customer service on the floor at all. We drove 30 miles here to get a keyboard for our daughter to pick out on her own. Each time we had a question, my husband stood in the checkout line to ask the cashier and still received general answers. After his third time standing in line to inquire about a warranty, I was done. We will keep our money to spend at a more customer oriented establishment. There were employees there, but they were chatting. However, they did acknowledged us as we left the store with a “have a good night”.

I had an electric start put on my Chevy Impala here great price and great service
Great vibes they are not pushy or cocky
the owner or i beleive he is the owner is super helpful with pricing Honest and upfront Unlike many other shops i install all my own audio but when i do need help or advise they are quick to help will always recomend my people here
The guys were helpful
I need to know if this place has warranty on there speakers
Not helpful. 25 years old but it was “go see what that kid wants” as I walked in. Not helpful at all literally just wasted my time walking in there. And all I was looking for were speakers. Just pushing business out the door instead of trying to suggestive sell or anything like that.
This place sucks. They charge you for equipment and parts that you dont need. Then then they say Oh we don’t warranty the labor we have done after they screwed my whole system up. They also seem to not like black people because Moe was so rude and mean. He was steadily asking for money but did not want to answer any questions. Trust me if you value your money and car. PLEASE DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE LOSERS!!!!
I ordered a center cap for my rim on my Jeep more then a month ago the part was out of stock they told me it would take two to three weeks. I paid for the cost of the part 65 dollars and called back three weeks later, they informed me it was going to be three months. I happened to find the part and called back to cancel the order. The manager of the store told me he could not refund my money but I could have a in store credit of 65 dollars, bad companies do this so you spend more money in their store, they realize you don’t need anything but hope you buy something else so they can make more money from you. If your thinking about having work done by these guys don’t do it there are other companies you can have your work done that won’t try and cheat you. PASS THIS ONE BY You ordered this center cap from TSI they have it on back order I expect to receive this center cap when they get it in, that’s what we agreed on since you will not refund my money which is bad business it’s not like you have it and are being stuck with it so on that note get the center cap that you said you can get because believe me if you told me there is a possibility you could not get the part I would have not have ordered it. So be a man of your word and get the cap I know it’s on back order because I called TSI so don’t say you can’t get it.

Not many stores like this are around anymore. We were there recently, these guys are very knowledgeable about the business. We’ve purchased several instruments with these guys over the years and had some repaired there for free! Who does that? Highly recommend going here!
Hidden gem. Just purchased a guitar and received very knowledgeable help. Got a great guitar and free service for life. I recommend this place highly.
Very professional, kind and attentive employees, even better environment. Great higher end shop with some beginner/affordable guitars/basses/etc as well. Prices align perfectly with what you buy hands down, instruments are treated with great care before leaving in your hands.
I love all the products but at times the service was bad, other visits there were good service. Thanks!
Went to purchase a Swart amp. Was told I could not use the washroom after driving for 1hr. Needless to say I didn’t buy anything. NOT CUSTOMER FRIENDLY!
John Lekavich advised me to do business over the phone and outside of Reverb.com so that he could avoid their fees and I would not be charged taxes. The T5 he assured me was brand new has a broken saddle and is not brand new as advertised.
I have called all week and sent him several emails with pics of the broken saddle; he has not replied. John has not conducted himself as an adult nor a professional, and I do not recommend doing business with him nor Midlothian Music.
I asked for an estimate to repair a leak on my daughter’s flute. With no parts needed, they wanted $40. I declined their service and the man on the phone hung up on me. When I picked up the flute, somehow additional keys were bent and leaking. Ridiculous!

les recomiendo ir encuentras muchas cosas ,y toda la gente de ai super y buenos precios y gente amable y luchadora..
Muy bueno
Nice family market
It was nice but a little cold once the weather gets a little warmer you might have a real nice turnout
Good flea market. Open on Tuesdays.
Ok
I remember when all that lot was more rough (& extremely country) neighborhood. Sadly, it was lit with cocaine over on Grace back in the early 1980’s, and was bold about it; Would be playing cards in the kitchen on a glass table, chop & snort coke off of it right in front of company, children.
Free to get in, $20 for sellers. Best part is you pay robbins police. I wonder where the money goes?

Tobias is the perfect combination of quality, good deals, and friendly/excellent service. Buy your guitar and supplies here and bring your instruments in for servicing here. Whether you’re an acoustic guitar (uke, mando, etc.) aficionado, fledgling, or at any level in-between, you do not need another music store. Absolutely love the Stonebridge 6 string and Taylor 12 string guitars I bought from Tobias!
Best music spot in Illinois, hands down. Trust me we’ve done the work! Family owned business that is so welcoming, warm and high quality. You won’t find a better place where you’ll feel like you got a great deal, great quality and supported a local business altogether. Thanks Paul!
Wow I love a family Guitar shop. Tobias is awesome. I love buying from small businesses rather than big box stores but I am picky about what a guitar looks and sounds like. I am a customer experience professional by trade and I will tell you that Paul Tobias took extra good care of me in my search for the perfect Taylor GS mini. He was so patient with me even though I was purchasing a lower priced guitar. I live across the country from Tobias it still felt local and personalized. They will be getting more of my business in the future. I also love the presentation of their inventory on line. It is well thought out and beautiful. I am a Taylor lover and Tobias is my choice. @Taylorguitars can be extra proud to have Tobias as a dealer. Well done.
***EDIT***
So, I am knocking down my review from five stars to three; due to my most recent experience a couple months after the first one. So I reached backout to buy another guitar (place order) as I really wanted an AD22e or another model I can’t remember, but after confirming they could place the order I let them know that I wanted the AD22e and to provide me the full price so we could close the deal and they went silent, mind you I didn’t even get a copy of the receipt from my AD27e that never came which I had also requested from the last conversation.
I did finally get my guitar ordered but I had a national retailer place the order. I was disappointed I didn’t hear back from Tobias Music about completing the purchase and obtaining a copy of the receipt for my AD27e that never came.
** original **
Just bought an AD27e (Taylor) from them after finding it for sale online. it was a great buying experience. I’m a lefty, buying guitars online is the norm, and most of the time guitars I buy take a day or two to pack and ship. we had a few emails back and forth and they were quick to respond and very professional. These guys had it packed and shipped the same day, and I didn’t place my order until after lunch; that’s service.
They also took the time to dial the guitar in; it came with the action set and was tuned ready to play out of the box. Paul did a great job and really made this buying experience easy, and hassle free. I’ll have to check back often to see what other lefty guitar they get in. If I have the chance, I will buy from them again.
They are more of a acoustic guitar place not really a place for bass players .
15. Down Home Guitars
Address: 11 S White St, Frankfort, IL 60423 , Robbins , Illinois , United States
Down Home Guitars is a true gem of not only Frankfort Illinois, but the entire Chicago Land Area. They serve not only as a high end acoustic instrument shop, but also as a music school, an intimate music venue, a shop for everyday music items and instruments, and a place where musicians of all levels have the opportunity to play with and for one another at their weekly Jam Sessions and monthly Open Mic Nights. The people are friendly and I always feel welcome when I am there.
I attend the Down Home Guitars’ concert series regularly. The venue is perfect! The walls are aligned with top of the line hand-crafted, American-made instruments and there is not a bad seat in the house (which holds about 60). It is simply gorgeous. I especially appreciate the complimentary wine, craft beer, and snacks that they have to offer at each show. That really adds a nice touch to the evening.
Down Home Guitars is doing it right! Steve and Molly (who run the store) are the kindest of people and everyone that works there seem to be pretty knowledgeable about music and their instruments. I would definitely recommend this store for anyone who is looking to take music lessons, buy and instrument (high or low end), get a repair done, see a good show, play an open mic, or just to become part of the Down Home music community that they have created and welcome everyone to be a part of.
the place to go to get a superb acoustic instrument, purchased an amazing Bourgeois guitar featuring Panamanian Rosewood. This is the best guitar I’ve ever played, it immediately makes everything sound unbelievable. Big thanks to Steve, Charles and staff what an awesome experience
February 17, 2017 …. I was in Frankfort, Illinois planning on the purchase of the Deering Eagle II banjo. Much to my pleasant surprise Steve also had the Deering Vega Senator! I was able to try them both and after much deliberation I made my choice. DHG is the most relaxed, full service, huge inventory on site, and friendliest music store in the mid-west. Near Chicago, easy to reach and certainly the ‘go to’ place for any kind of stringed instrument! Owner/manager/stringed artist Steve Haberichter makes you feel very comfortable in his store! Jack J.
The store carries beautiful high-end acoustic instruments. They also hold some impressive seminars and concerts. If you want the very best and can spend 6K on a guitar then this store may be for you. With a larger wallet, perhaps you will receive better treatment than I did. The red-haired owner of this store is probably the rudest retail store owner I have ever experienced. Of course, I wasn’t there to spend thousands of dollars. I simply went there to buy picks, strings, tab books, and to explore and discuss instruments with other music lovers. My initial visits were often greeted by cold, stiff, and awkward personalities. After multiple visits, I expected things would warm up, and while some staff were friendly, it was never a comfortable experience. This was especially true whenever the owner was present. Pompous and arrogant seem apt descriptions, and small talk and small wallets are beneath him.

If you are looking to buy a string instrument, you should absolutely buy it here. Unmatched service and maintenance at a good price. Best experience I’ve ever had buying a cello.
Very professional place
Wonderful, accomodating staff.
Music teachers are EXTREMELY patient and encouraging.
Nice and helpful staff, but they require you to give them your phone number to make a purchase. No thanks. Took my business elsewhere.
I gave this place a bad review after dealing with a younger employee But when the manager was alerted to the situation (A few days later) it was dealt with fairly. Kagan and Gains has a long time reputation in their neighborhood of being the first choice for musical lessons of any instrument and Fair pricing on instruments and accessories. It may not be the best place to shop for a new guitar But they can handle all your needs afterwords. I recommend them for all your strings, Guitar cases, Band instruments, ect. You will find all of them are of good quality and pricing.
I have had great success with Kagan.& Gaines..
Since my daughter started Violin back in 2006
They were able to help me with a 1/2 size , a 3/4 violin and now my daughter is in a full size French made violin.
Excellent service and knowledge of violins.
They have helped my daughter become the great young violinist she is, as this is where it all started for my Alexis.
Having a great selection of violins to choose from.
I hate to agree with the user below who complained of a dishonest experience, but we are going through the same. I’ve read all of the other 5 star reviews and notice a pattern: it seems that for violin and stringed instruments, this is a great place. For renting brass/woodwind instruments via their monopoly with the school districts, they are subpar and dishonest. We should have just purchase a used instrument which would have resulted in us obtaining a superior instrument at, I am not exaggerating, 1/4 the total cost. We just had to call them to stop processing our credit card when we noticed we had been paying an abnormally long time on my daughter’s VERY USED, VERY DENTED saxophone (4 years!). We were “reassured” that, coincidentally, they were just going to call us as well as our payments happened to be completed. Yet they have no records of all the payments that we made, and are asking us to provide payment records going back to 2017 to “prove” how much we have paid in total. Luckily for us, we can easily provide them as they have all been made on the same credit card for years. We are also disputing the amount owed as our daughter’s original “nicer” model saxophone broke, was taken in for repairs, and she was given a loaner, student-model, older and dented sax. Her other one was never repaired and instead she’s just had this one forever. We were told at the time it would be “worked out.” Now they want us to pay the same amount as they were going to charge for the initial instrument to keep this replacement instrument permanently, as they also claim to have NO record that any switch was ever made or that the original saxophone was ever brought in for repairs. Typically, I endeavor to support neighborhood shops, but not when their record keeping is straight out of Mayberry. This is taking a lot of our time and energy to sort out, and we’ve ultimately laid out over $2300 to own an instrument that I have found at multiple music stores online for around $600 and under. We understand that renting the own is typically more expensive, but this feels like being swindled in every way. Extremely disappointed. My husband has been playing music for over 40 years – he also used to play saxophone – and his mother is a professional classical musician. He is used to dealing with all sorts of music shops and has never had an experience like this one.

Mokena is very lucky to have this gem of a music shop. Our boys took Bass guitar and piano lessons for a few years and had a great experience doing so. Bill is one cool dude who will find you whatever instrument you may be looking for and can fix any one you break. Side note: he also has a sweet recording studio across the street if you are interested in locking those tunes down. If You or your kids are looking for lessons or you’re looking for some great used or new equipment you have to give Axes a try, you won’t be disappointed.
