Shane is a master of his craft and a true professional. He revived this 1990’s fender blues deluxe that had tons of bad work done on it before I purchased it. Shane rewired it and installed a new reverb tank. I would come back to him for any amp or pedal repair in the future.
Shane did a terrific job on getting a 1970’s Peavy amp back into shape and ready to use. Took extra time to do all of the little things related to the wiring that will make this amp last another 40 years….highly recommended.
My Fender Amp head sounds better than ever after getting it serviced here. Nice guy, very knowledgeable, and did a great job!
Good decent affordable prices for most of your audio & needs custom amps and subs etc new used and more
Had a twin reverb taken there, took almost a month to repair, got it back and it was still having the issue I brought it in for, took it back and he said it was a bad tube (after just recovering it back from him), waiting another week to finally get it back a second time and it still has the extra buzzing issue. So I’ve called him several times and he stops answering returning my calls, I’ve left four different messages and he’s never called back and never answers the phone. He says there’s a warranty on the amps but it’s not good if you can’t get a hold of him….. avoid at all cost
3. Tim’s Music
Address: 6818 Fair Oaks Blvd, Carmichael, CA 95608 , Rosemont , California , United States
I first whent into Tim’s to have my grandson’s school Viola tuned up and a string replaced i have never ran into nicer people ever i was so impressed that i started back up practicing my Bango and my wife bought a guitar and i took it down to have them look at it and put new strings on it best music store i have ever been in and will continue too.
This is the place I go for sax maintenance and music. The staff is always helpful and a pleasure to just talk music when time allows. It’s easy to find, very clean, organized, has good parking, and has friendly knowledgable staff.
Excellent staff, they know their stuff! If you don’t play an instrument you will want to after a visit.
Friendly staff and adequate selection for student musicians.
Lots and lots and lots of gear here. If you’re looking for anything for orchestra style instruments, they probably have it, Great way to try things on for size. Good, high quality instruments.
Great locally owned music store. Nice variety of instruments and a good repair shop. Knowledgeable and friendly staff!
I have purchase and rented instruments here before. This time, five different staff said they would help, apparently what I wanted was not in stock and instead of letting me know, all left me waiting. After quite a wait we decided to leave. Someone caught us leaving and took our number to call and figure out how we could get ahold of the instrument. That was over 8 weeks ago, my phone never rang. They’ve lost a loyal customer.
This would be zero stars but a plug is warranted for John Doolittle’s sax lessons at the store of which I availed myself a couple of times. Zero stars involves me taking my alto sax there for repair. It’s over 50 years old but has had some restorative work done; fairly significant when I started playing again regularly about three years ago and more minor work several months ago and again following my unpleasant experience at Tim’s, the former by Kline Music and the latter by The Music Store in Rocklin. The guy at Kline is particularly known for his competence. The purported lead expert on reed instrument repairs at Tim’s told me my Selmer Mark VI needed a $1500 complete overhaul and they wouldn’t touch it for any lesser amount of work. The guy in Rocklin then fixed it for $65 and it plays just fine, as it did before it started acting up shortly before I took it to Tim’s. I played in church today and was complemented on my tone by their music director, who is a school music teacher and fellow owner of a Selmer Mark VI. An instrument in need of complete renovation obviously could not produce such a result. I got a different feel from the store than I did when I took lessons from Doolittle at the old location. Maybe they’ve bitten off more than they can chew financially but they’ve certainly lost my business.
4. Music Exchange | Piano Store in Sacramento, CA
Address: 1537 Howe Ave Unit 206, Sacramento, CA 95825 , Rosemont , California , United States
Matthew was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and helped me through my questions and matched me with my perfect piano. Very friendly and polite. Really enjoyed the experience and came away feeling very confident of my purchase.
An awesome treat for a piano lover. Jeff is awesome. Very patient and very informative.
It was a good experience, they had some really good pianos there and had a lot of different kinds of pianos
From outside looks like it was remodeled 50 years a go,, inside a lot of pianos very nice salesman, prices are high” , cheapest baby grand piano was like 12k
Where dreams come true
You can’t just came and check any pianos, you must have appointment with them
5. Kline Music
Address: 2200 Sutterville Rd, Sacramento, CA 95822 , Rosemont , California , United States
From instruments to lessons and everything in-between. Easy access and parking. Family owned. Live this place
Much larger inside than it appears from the front. Not only did they have the exact piano fake book I was after, they had some things I would never have thought to look for. The Legend of Zelda for piano? Fantastic! The staff was friendly and offered their help, but the store was really logically laid out so I didn’t need assistance finding what I needed. My kind of place.
Awesome
very helpful
Oldest music store in Sacramento. Instrument you will not see at other stores. Friendly and personal staff.
Good selection of everything, and good prices.
Expensive
Won’t go back, they don’t accept returns, they don’t have the no returns sign posted at the counter or anywhere in the store.
On payments to buy a clarinet for my daughter for band in November 2017 I received a new card which my payments were linked to. I have spoke with someone in 4 separate occasions and have them updated card information. However, they failed to process the payment and not that it didn’t go through because the money is there the never submitted it. So today I April 11th, 2018 I get a notice for unpaid balance of $133 since December 2017. The letter is dated March 29th and postdated April 6th. Stating to clear balance by April 9th or they’ll come to my home, go to my child’s school, or sue me for three hundred some odd dollars plus Court cost. I work 12 hour night shifts between two very demanding patient populated hospital jobs and have reached out to clear this more than enough times for them to clear this. I have no idea why they can’t or don’t submit payment as I give them the card information. Very poor company OH AND DON’T CALL WHEN THEIR CLOSED BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO VOICEMAIL SYSTEM it’s 2018 SERIOUSLY. The most ridiculous company I’ve done business with. Can’t wait to be done with them.
6. Skip’s Music – Sacramento
Address: 4614 Madison Ave, Sacramento, CA 95841 , Rosemont , California , United States
Matt was very knowledgeable about wireless mic systems. His incite was helpful in making a decision
Always someone ready to help you and a very knowledgeable staff. Best music store in the area.
Wonderful experience. This place is great and super friendly. If you have questions they will get you the answers or help in any way possible. You will not be disappointed. Give them a try
Skip’s is a cool place to chill at. The service is good staff is grate.
They didn’t charge me for restringing.
I was really liking the nonexistant snobby vibe you get in some places, and the care and experienced perfection the guy who fixed my accoustic was able to do. Did not like how some of the other customers present were treating the instruments they were looking at and trying out, have some manners, please. I can’t imagine walking into a shoe store and testing shoes by stomping around the store yankng on them as hard as possible to see if they break, how did that become the precident for buying an instrument? Grrr
Brought them a pick up truck of Used equiptmnt to sell they were too busy, turned us away after Christmas…. J.A.B.-57
First off, there are some very knowledgeable sales staff here. The lutheir does great work as well. The amp tech leaves something to be desired. I buy lots of guitars and amplifiers. I don’t like wasting money, I do my best at doing my homework before I purchase. I called and talked to the amp tech who first tells me he tries when I asked him if he was the tech. I tried to have a simple conversation about tube amp reliability issues. I wasn’t asking him to bash a company, just simply make some suggestions on some amps that he does not have to repair all the time. I also wanted to know if pcb’s are worth it repair wise or handwired. All I got was attitude and him pushing me to the sales department. You claim you are for local musicians, if we can not have a honest discussion before I once again blow another 1000 dollars or more for another amp, what’s the point in me coming to skips music for my needs? My money is accepted everywhere. I have many options. I like to support American businesses and local shops. This is the second time this business has waisted my time. I definitely did not deserve attitude. Since there is a lack of professionalism, I will not be back.
One star for my experience with Mike. Made me feel like I was inconveniencing him by asking simple questions. He was condescending when I asked about a guitar repair. He was also very dismissive. Thankfully the manager on duty Erik was amazing as well as the two gentleman at the front desk. Because of them I will be coming back to the store on a day when Mike is NOT working. 5/5 for those gentlemen. 0/5 for Mike.

Anthony is the best! You will definitely want him for your next job. Whether it’s being a DJ or audio-visual for a business event. He really cares.
When your incredible Wedding DJ gives you a CD at the end of the night with all your special wedding day songs, it now becomes the BEST SOUNDTRACK you’ve ever heard!!! Thank you Anthony for doing an incredible job. Our family and friends couldn’t stop talking about how great you were!!! I would highly recommend Anthony for ANY event. He kept our wedding moving right on time, played great music, and it all turned out seamless.
I had Anthony and team host our wedding all the way up in South Lake Tahoe. Friends claimed it was the most fun wedding they had ever been to and I hold Anthony personally responsible. He went way above and beyond what I paid him to do which I though was to play music but he ran the whole show. We didn’t have a wedding planner so when Anthony noticed this, he filled that gap so gracefully without hesitation. I originally discovered Anthony at my sister’s wedding several years before and he made quite the impression back then. My husband tells everyone getting married that our DJ (Anthony) was worth every penny and then some. Guests from our wedding adored Anthony as much as we do and actually hired him for their wedding a few years later.
Superb service, personality, thoughtful music choices. This guy and his team are the absolute best!
Ok, so this is a review, not of using Anthony as a client but working alongside him as a videographer for a wedding. First getting ahold of him was extremely difficult in order to get permission to plug a recorder into his set up for audio for the video. The number he had provided the coordinator went to voicemail that was full. The number on his Google business listing was the same thing, then the third number went straight to voicemail, thankfully it wasn’t full and I could leave a message.
At the wedding his behavior was highly unprofessional, this was a wedding that began planning three years ago and was delayed by covid, they had a very set schedule in place to allow for space for the bride and groom to have some moments together. All of that planning essentially went out the window when this dude went 100000% rogue. He started announcing things that weren’t happening.
Then during the father daughter, and mother son dances he again went rogue and started calling up ALL MOTHERS AND SONS TO DANCE AND ALL FATHERS AND DAUGHTERS after each dance. Which was not part of the schedule, then after those three dances when we should have moved to toasts and cake to give me and the photographers time to get the bride and groom to do some sunset pictures he basically bullied all couples onto the dance floor for a non scheduled dance, when he was confronted he just said “I’ve got to get these people dancing”, then he said “I’ll do two fast songs after this slow song and then we can do toasts”
Spoiler alert, after two songs and also burning “Get Low” way to early in the night (elder millennial crowd) a third song started playing, when I went to him to say, “hey you said two fast songs and then toasts?” He then just looked at me and said “I’m going to do toasts at 7” (those had been scheduled for 6pm). He was highly confrontation and bulling to the other vendors at the wedding.
He pressed on doing what ever he wanted despite the photographers, me, and the coordinator correcting him, AND THE BRIDE BEING VISIBLY UPSET.
To top it off he wasn’t even good at DJing. No mixing or remixing, no turntable, just a laptop and a playlist. I do not recommend hiring this guy for any event if you as the client want to have a say in the order. I feel so bad for the bride and groom for this wedding I was at.
12. The Music Store
Address: 4815 Granite Dr, Rocklin, CA 95677 , Rosemont , California , United States
solved all of my needs and problems at a very cheap price!
My sons mouthpiece got stuck in his trumpet. We walked in and they removed it for us at no charge. The service was awesome and they are very knowledgeable. We will definitely be back! And they have private lessons at a very reasonable charge!
Only been a couple of times but knowledgeable, honest and quick to tune into your needs. IMHO Instruments are far better being purchased here than trying to save a couple of dollars online.
Friendly staff and very helpful.
I rented a used violin for my son from the shop. They said the price was $199. The rental was $35 per month. after two months if you want to own the violin then they said they would deduct the rental amount from the original price. But when we want to buy the used violin they said the price is $299 which is hell more than a new violin. So would recommend not to rent or buy anything from this store.
13. The Nicholson Music Co.
Address: 636 E Bidwell St, Folsom, CA 95630 , Rosemont , California , United States
Great staff, super knowledgeable, bought 4 of my instruments from them over the years… definitely go here and get what you need!
This is one of the best music stores I have ever seen. They have wide selections of instruments, books/sheet music, and accessories. The instruments are good quality and many are unique styles and brands that you would never find at guitar center. I love walking into this shop because it smells like a luthier shop, good wood! Other touches that make this place special: they offer lessons and provide opportunities for students to show what they’ve learned at jams and open mics in the cafe nextdoor. And yes, they have a repair shop too. Truly a gem as far as instrument shops go.
Absolutely love Nicholson’s Music Store (and cafe!) The owner’s are amazing people, super knowledgeable and friendly folks. You can also have music lessons there, as well as get repairs done if there’s any damage to your instrument. One of my favorite places in Folsom 🙂
I haven’t been to this shop in years. Came in recently to look for a specific book. The staff was friendly. The layout of the place is a bit awkward. There is a back section with sheet music but it’s not very apparent at first. Ask anyone at the desk if you need to find it. The sheet music selection is very small.
They had a good collection of guitars, bases, and other stringed instruments. I didn’t see much in the way of brass or woodwinds. Its in a small shopping complex and parking was okay.
I need a stand for tomorrow lesson because mine broke. It is closed on MONDAY the service is good but the prices for rent are high for rented items.
I enjoyed the experience of coffee, paired sometimes with comedy, awesome musicians to so so ones on open mike days. Fun place with friendly staff.
Wish the coffee was better than just good, or maybe I’m just spoilt. Haha.
Rude and unprofessional people.
Wow. Walked in with 5K in my pocket ready to spend. NO customer service. NO greeting. NO help. You guys need to learn a thing or two. You’re lucky you’re in Folsom and can survive on your overpriced lessons. Headed to Guitar Center. 1 star.
Bad service. They tried to sell me a $500 plus guitar when I insisted upon renting instead because I was taking classes at the community college. Will not be returning.
14. Nicastro Music Studio

My happy place. Perfect in every way.
Did a car club car show there but did not go into store..
Looks like they’re closed
Lots of stuff.
Cute but very expensive and some of the stuff isn’t actually vintage
**Update – I have found the same jacket (Black Rivet Green Leather Jacket) online gently used priced between $50-60 so I have no idea why I was told it was worth $142, absolutely not. I feel like I was trying to be cheated, so not cool**
I want to preface this by saying I was SO excited to go to this shop. Such a cool place but I can’t believe what happened when I tried to check out.
I was trying to buy a green leather jacket priced at $42, went to the bathroom and came out to a woman at the desk who said “I’m sorry, I can’t sell you this for $42, this was from my collection and I never wore it for 30 yrs.” And proceeded to blame someone for pricing it wrong, then told me it should actually be priced at $142. I said there’s no way I can afford that, and she said “I know.” She said I must have thought I was getting a great deal as if I was swindling them?! when THEY set the prices. She was very condescending. I did not, infact think i was getting a deal – the $42 was pushing it for me.
I dont think I want to go back here. I’m so disappointed, I got so excited for the jacket only to have to be priced out of it. I cant shop somewhere that handles business this way.
16. The Strum Shop
Address: 209 Vernon St, Roseville, CA 95678 , Rosemont , California , United States
Teachers are great, the customer service is great. What’s not to love.
Visited the shop for a concert. Good location, parking was super easy to get close to store. Lots of instruments, music books, accessories. I’d go again.
Has everything you could need for instruments. Very helpful and friendly.
Cool shop for all your strumming needs!
Cool
Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful. Street parking is iffy. Rear parking and entrance is unmarked.
Went in and there was a class going on with 20+ people crammed into a tiny space, not one of them wearing a mask. Only one other person in the entire store had one on, none of the staff. Fully 1/3rd of Sac Co. is completely unvaccinated. I’m immune compromised [along with some 7,000,000 other American citizens] & disabled. The ABSOLUTE BARE MINIMUM of decency and community protection is apparently an outrageous expectation. They also had some absurd overpricing. I vastly prefer non-corporate local stores, but they can F right off if they’re not going to do even the simplest, most pitifully minor actions to do their part in not further spreading a wildly uncontrolled global pandemic that has killed nearly a million U.S. humans, and is far from over. Still averaging a quarter million cases a day, and over 2,000 deaths [more than any time since last winter, still]. They don’t even REQUEST that people wear some kind of face covering. Reprehensible madness, and unless this changes I will not support or recommend them to my musician friends. Please be better, nobody should be forced to exclude themselves from society JUST because of laziness or ignorance and non-measures that throw disabled folks under the bus.
They lost my instrument and won’t return my calls. I brought an instrument in for repairs, they gave to their vendor, I talked with the vendor and he said it would be done in two weeks. After a month with no word I started calling, and they have ignored all messages I’ve left.
I originally came in to get a new nut cut for my Gibson SG. The repair took longer and cost more than originally advertised, and the repair man left several issues that I had to fix myself (buzzing on A and low E, new tuning problems due to roughness of nut slots, high action, used strings other than the ones I’d left for him and specifically asked for him to use). Fortunately, however, when I brought this up with the shop, out of the $50 that I was charged, I was refunded $40 labor cost. (Still on the hook for $10 though).
EDIT: The manager for the Strum Shop started hassling me over text message after I posted this review. LOL.
