Items arrived exactly as expected. Very fast service
This is my go to place for all things uke!
I’m a 3 year member and have learned so much from Terry and the ULTP community.
Terry Carter Music really came through for me. I broke my ukulele (literally, not rhetorically), and I needed a new one fast. I got on Amazon right away and ordered a Flight electric from a Japanese company. After a week, I heard not a peep from them. I canceled and went to Reverb, ordered the exact same model from some music store on the East Coast. Same result–a week without any progress. I wrote to them asking for an update. Their reply: “Oh, we forgot–we’re out of that model. We’ll have some new ones in a few weeks.” I canceled immediately, feeling not only enraged, but a little hopeless. Then I found the same model at Carter’s online. The Carter store had my uke in the mail the next business day (which was a Monday because I placed the order on Sat.) They’ve got a good tracking setup with UPS, so I was able to watch it every step of the way. It arrived safe and sound on Wed. I’m really happy with the service and promptness. It was a few bucks more, but it was worth it.
I enjoyed my first visit
Cool place to go look at music instruments
Ukulele is beautiful – took a bit to get shipped but worth the wait
The shop is overpriced and the owner is shady as hell. If you even do the most basic of comparison shopping, you’ll see how much he’s trying to take advantage of ukulele players.
Carter’s NOT the only game in town and uke players deserve better.
it has been 6 days and I still have not received my strings I will never buy another thing from you I EVEN HAD TO PAY FOR SHIPPING! ! !
Well product said ukelele humidification system and ended up just humidification pouches that are way too big for ukelele sound hole only able to put in case with instrument wasn’t really what I was looking for thought they’d be smaller I’ll use till I find something better like Dadario guitar type with humidity pouches shipping was kinda slow also I guess their a bit smaller than guitar ones not much though

great place, the owner was very helpful and knowledgeable, i will be coming back for any music supplies i need.
Good selection, very fair pricing, great flexibility and spectacular service. When everyone else wanted a three month overpriced minimum to rent a saxophone for a weekend special for our church’s Christmas service, these guys gave me a fair price for a month. They listened to my need and worked with me. I will send fellow musicians and business their way and I myself will go to them for my music needs. Shelton and staff, well done.
Absolutely wonderful place. Jesse was extremely helpful and patient with all my questions. I walked in to get information and walked out with my son’s new electric guitar, lessons, and a sax on layaway for me! Thanks again, Jesse!!
Do not rent your music instrument here, it’s a nightmare.
I have yet to receive a refund for my children’s canceled classes in May. The instructor canceled three sessions each for my two kids, amounting to $222 in total. Shelton assured us that we would get a refund, but even after waiting until July, I still haven’t received it. When I reached out to him, he suggested contacting corporate, but I found his response unhelpful and indifferent.
I sent an email to the corporate team, but unfortunately, they never responded. This experience has been frustrating, and I strongly advise others to consider finding a different music studio with better instructors, management, and customer service. While I understand that unforeseen circumstances can occur, the lack of communication and delay in resolving the issue are unacceptable.
I sincerely hope that you won’t end up feeling the same regret I did.
I really want to give y’all a good rating, but I don’t understand how I can provide formal approval for my flute’s repairs, and then proceed to have to approve two more times over two more months because someone, somewhere keeps not actually putting the paperwork through? I expected a timesink since repairs take a while, but to have had my flute sitting WAITING for said lengthy repairs for more than two (three by now?) months despite me approving it three! separate! times! because someone just didn’t click a button is extremely disappointing!!!!
8. Mark’s Guitar Exchange
Address: 3233 Midway Dr, San Diego, CA 92110 , Mission Hills , California , United States
Had a guitar problem that only a human could fix. The problem was addressed, solved and I became much more educated on the subject. I purchased new tuning machines for a Córdoba classical guitar. After replacing the tuners and restringing, all is well!
Now the bridge is starting to detach from the body under the string tension. So that’ll be a fun adventure for next week!!
I if you want to be a rock star, start from here !!!))
Great Experience, super helpful. Found my new go to guit store
Literally the only place near downtown SD to get a guitar repair…
Great music shop very knowledgeable staff. One guy there can be kind of rude but overall the shop itself has a great variety and you’ll probably find anything your looking for.
This is my husband’s and my favorite guitar shop in San Diego. Mark and the man who runs the front (can’t recall his name) are friendly and incredibly helpful. They also have a really good selection of ukuleles and amps as well. The only downside is that it’s a little shop so when it gets busy it gets cramped fast.
Could not use wife’s card though I was ready to buy a Martin. She gave me her DL also. Would speak to him, too. Nope.
He said she had to be there. Huh? (She wasn’t feeling good). F that. 19th century business acumen. Like to support locally but whoa. Move on folks.
Gave me a quote and raised the price without even a justification. RUDE UNWILLING TO EVEN BE NICE TO PAYING CUSTOMERS!!!!
I recently visited Mark’s Guitar to have my instrument repaired and set up. When I initially dropped it off, I was told it would take a couple of weeks to complete the work. However, my experience with the shop left much to be desired.
After patiently waiting for two weeks without receiving any updates or communication from the shop, I decided to reach out to them. To my disappointment, I was told that they would start working on it “in the next few days.” I continued to wait, and after another week had passed, I called them once more, only to be informed that my instrument would be worked on “next week.”
Feeling frustrated and concerned about the lack of progress and communication, I eventually decided to visit the shop in person to pick up my instrument. Unfortunately, I received no explanation or apology for the delays from any of the staff members.
If you cherish your beloved instrument and expect timely and professional service, I would recommend exploring other options before considering Mark’s Guitar for repairs and setups. Communication and customer service appear to be lacking in this establishment, which can be a significant inconvenience for musicians in need of reliable and efficient service.
9. San Diego County Music Exchange

Dale and his crew are trustworthy and great to build a relationship with if you’re a musician
Friendly and knowledgeable.
Friendly staff!
This is such a gem of a store. The staff is awesome and super helpful. I especially like the fact that they are kid friendly and treat them with respect and the attention the deserve as customers.
good place to rent instruments
Nice vibe. Good stuff. Reasonable$$
I have them 2 months with my saxophone and they did not check it out

I was in a pinch and was unable to find a limited edition Hatch print poster that was released with an LP. Michael took the time out to verify they had it over the phone, pulled it for me and even shipped it to me several states away. I received the vinyl yesterday and the poster is on its way! I’d give 10 stars if I could. Thank you so much for the extra effort. I’ll definitely visit if I’m ever in the area!
This store has a really good selection of new and used vinyls, and actually has a lot of modern music as well, compared to many other cd and vinyl stores. The vinyl section is much bigger, but there are also many good options for cds. Would recommend if you want to find a place that caters to more recent music!
Super cool record store, super friendly staff, clean, well organized!
A great place to strike up a conversation about the fine points of your favorite sub-genre of progressive rock.
The owner very nicely greeted to me and left my by myself to explore around. The rock CD collections are organized alphabetically. Record players are available.
Store was nice, clean and friendly staff
Met a guy named Mike there with long brown hair a cap to the back, who was extremely rude, and not friendly at all. Obviously had some kind of chip on his shoulder, So I kept it real brief and walked out, total A-Hole, good luck with maintaining good business with that guy still working the register. Tried to over charge for scratched up and dusty used records… NEVER shopping here again. We were promised a wholesale price of $2 or less for bulk purchases, but was denied that deal when I showed up, and Mike “the shot caller” decided not to honor a promise from a different employee.
The prices are ok but the selection is old & mostly rock.
Looks like they got a lot of stuff, but every time I drive all the way here they’re either closed (during opening hours) or its full of people holding mini concerts in there. I just want to buy records damnit!

Oh my god!
What a great music store!!
Bought my grandson a Taylor GS-mini and John the guitar expert was so kind and helpful.
Thank you John
Had some static issues with my ampeg svt3 pro amp. Brought it right in and spoke with Peter about it, super friendly and understood I wanted and needed it back asap. Called me back in a couple days with the dignosis and very reasonable estimate. Had it fixed up within a week of me dropping it off (other shops told me at least a month, or other shops couldn’t do the repair). Amp sounds like brand new and should be good for something like 20 years now. Great work, nice people.
Music Mart is a local treasure, cool products, knowledgable staff and competitive prices. John does a great job setting up guitars too!
Good place but they don’t carry fender products so
Terrible service. They can’t stay focused on helping the next customer. Nice shop and nice people, but was very disappointed in the service (or lack of) that I received. I got passed over for other customers several times. Not good.
14. San Diego Music Studio
Address: 423 S Las Posas Rd, San Marcos, CA 92078 , Mission Hills , California , United States
I attended a super-fun ukulele jam on Saturday afternoon. Friendly, welcoming group of players, great song selection. Just the upbeat vibe I needed after staying home alone for a year. Thankful to be able to be out and about again – and to have found the uke group at San Diego Music Studio. Appreciate you!!
This store CARES!! …about you. …about your kid. …about their school’s music program. And they will do everything they can to make your experience the best that they can provide!
Years of piano lessons, over a decade of supporting our school district’s bands and orchestras, and a team of employees who are knowledgeable and friendly makes this little shop the absolute BEST in all of North County (or, dare I say, the county!).
LOVE THEM!!!
Always such personal service!!!
Update 9/28 – Ryan called to apologize and made things right. In light of that I have upgraded the rating to 4 stars. Often times it’s not the mistake, but the reaction and I think Ryan did a good job resolving the issue.
The customer service for the rental is horrible. Bliss was terribly rude. I had an auto debit for a rental and I had that for a couple of years. The bank issued me a new card and it had lapsed. That happened in the past and they would call. This last time I got a new call saying it was two months past, but I never got a call for the first month, or an email, and she couldn’t do anything to waive the late fees, which were $15 for a $19 a month rental (79% of the rental cost). All because they couldn’t call or send and email. Sounds like their business model is to just make their money on the late fees rather than be reasonable.
We were looking to get a flute repaired and visited this location, having heard good experiences from others and being quoted a quick turnaround for the repair over the phone. Unfortunately, our service experience was rather disappointing. The staff present seemed inexperienced in working with customers. We were told they required a $20 for a same-day evaluation of the instrument, which we agreed to as the repair was urgent. However, the staff came back afterwards saying the instrument required “General Adjustments” (for which we were quoted a charge of $95), without explaining what was wrong with the instrument. The staff didn’t make much of an attempt to understand what was wrong with the instrument or provide clarification when we asked what exactly what was going to be fixed.
We came back a few days later when the instrument was ready for pick up, and the issue we were facing was not fixed! After this, we talked with one of the mechanics there and explained the issue, and they were able to identify the issue and repair the instrument, rather quickly in fact! Had we been able to do this from the beginning, we could have saved a lot of time and headache.
We will not be returning to this location for future repairs.
15. West Valley Music
Address: 300 W El Camino Real, Mountain View, CA 94040 , Mission Hills , California , United States
Best place in the Bay Area to find music for playing instruments like violin and piano. Great variety of all four fundamental periods : Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary 20th and 21st.
Wonderful, knowledgeable, helpful staff; great selection of instruments; loads of parking!
It’s nice to have a local music shop that had pretty much what you need when you need it. You don’t have to wait for it to come in the mail and the staff is friendly with lots of great ideas.
cool little music store in downtown mountain view. private lessons and practice rooms in the back.
Lots of goodies, nice location
Very helpful staff. Went above and beyond to help my son for his first year in school band.
Took my flute collection in for a possible tune up. Was told that all but one of the flutes were unplayable. Guess my looks or money weren’t what they accepted there. Took my ‘non playable’ flutes, and commenced to use them to busk, there in downtown Mtn View. Odd that they were declared unplayable, yet I was playing at least one of them not 30 minutes later. Care to explain West Valley Music staff ?

Very clean and friendly. Love this location when I’m in a rush
Great store with helpful employees!
It’s actually a Target Express not a full Target store
The store is very nicely set up, and the employees are very helpful, however, it’s smaller than normal size is both an advantage and a disadvantage. While it’s a great store for quick purchases, it’s not the place to go if you need a bigger selection.
Kind of disorganized and very strange layout. I couldn’t find half of the items I wanted to get, even though they were in stock at this store according to the website.
Target is relatively small which means there is a lack of products and lack of registers. Most of it is self checkout, but with only 1 line that starts on the other side of the aisle that nobody can see! As a result, if the employee isn’t watching, there is line cutting. The price tags on the shelves are wrong and I had to price check everything because of the outrageous ,unbelievable price on the tag shelf. Unfriendly and lack of customer service from the employees. Parking is scarce due to overload of businesses in the plaza that cannot accommodate space for the public. 2 stars given because it’s a new store and relatively clean. But overall, the product, space, size, and employees are not worth going to!
This has got to be the smallest Target ever built. I love how they figured out a way to fit so much into the store.
The bathrooms are a bummer with the locks though.
Dirty ass bathroom
