These guys helped me even tho it was not financial. Im impressed with the wonderful service, and selections of fine guitars and accessory’s.
Super nice people and great service
Lots of independent musicians offering lessons out of here, my daughter takes singing lessons here. Plus they have an electronic drum set that they don’t mind you playing so I can toodle around on the drums while waiting for her lesson to finish. Just a nice, chill, local place for lessons, instruments, and more.
It’s kinda cool.
Studios with music lessons in the back of store.
The folks in the repair shop are great. Always reasonable when setting expectations.
I love the environment in this store and is my preferred music store for my brass needs. The only complaint is the repairman in the back was very rude to me and I could wait to get out after he talked to me.
Pour services
I was pretty amazed by the amount of instruments that were in the store, it was pretty cool. I walked in, only greeted by a man behind the counter, facing towards the wall, raised his hand with a half-attempt “Hey.” I was there to pick up some tenor sticks for marching band, so I walked over to the stick rack. There was almost no marching percussion sticks, but a really good variety of other sticks. I found some tenor sticks, poorly packaged and plastic with some cuts and tears. There were only 3 pairs, so I picked one up to see the price… Sad, I must say at the least. I spent $30 on ONE pair of Promark TS8’s. I didn’t want to buy it, but I had no choice. Probably won’t be buying from there anymore, I’m better off getting 4 pairs of TS8’s on Amazon for $30 !!!
2. Star Guitars Music Store
Address: 109 3rd St, Santa Rosa, CA 95401 , Santa Rosa , California , United States
These guys are very knowledgeable and will go out of there way to get what you want. They helped me find my guitar. Thanks
Excellent selection of items and exemplary customer service. Cannot recommend highly enough.
We love this place! Have nothing but great things to say about the service, personal, products and prices!
Sonoma County Musicians welcome to your new home! Star Guitars! PJ Malone of IOP
If you’re looking for some assistance or direction, this is not the place for you. Person at the counter made me feel completely unwelcome. Because of his unwelcoming attitude, I did not want to stay in the store for another minute, let alone ask any questions. Five stars for the wide selection, zero stars for service.

these guys rip me off everytime i buy something there, they lie and just plain are shady AF.
The manager was completely disrespectful and totally rude. He ended up treating us so badly that my husband told him he felt like he was being disrespectful and the guy kicked us out when we where being friendly and respectful and asking questions. Will never go there again. Completely uncalled for.
The owner charged me twice the normal price for guitar strings on my debit card without telling me.
I called in advance to ask the store if they had my favorite strings in stock (Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom’s) and the man on the line said they did. When I arrived at the store, I made the mistake of not asking for the price of the strings as I generally trust small business vendors to be honest with their prices. He made a point to not show me the receipt and I didn’t think anything of it (as these strings are $6.50 per pack generally). I bought two packs and left for home.
When I got home I checked my banking app to see how much he charged me for two packs of strings and it came out to ~$33. While this is not a jarring financial loss, due to the dishonesty of the employee/owner I will never return to this store for business.
3. Bananas At Large
Address: 531 College Ave, Santa Rosa, CA 95404 , Santa Rosa , California , United States
A great local music store. Guitars, mandolins, ukes and more. Official Fender guitars and bass dealership. Main store is in Marin. Strings, cords, straps, pedals and amps.
Dope, staff is cool too.
Theyre called Bananas at large cuz it’s robbery and they’re basically criminals at large. Decent selction at outrageous prices.
I would like this place better if they didn’t try to upsell me super expensive guitars. I mean honestly I don’t know how this place is in business with these prices during covid. You would think they were for the people.
4. Santa Rosa Music Center: Piano & Guitar Sales and Piano Movers Service
Address: 860 Piner Rd #28, Santa Rosa, CA 95403 , Santa Rosa , California , United States
Moved 1036 full upright without a hitch. Fast and friendly. Affordable.
Had a fantastic experience here last week. Would highly recommend!
A lot of instruments, friendly staff. Very cramped space though, otherwise I’d give it a better rating.
I chose this establishment when it came time to decide where I was going to buy my guitar I had a good relationship with a former manager who sold it to me. I have been in and out of the store from time to time and purchased a few items here and there but honestly I was not happy with the phone conversation I had yesterday with whom ever picked up the phone.
He was very cordial and businesslike of course which anyone but expect from a well-seasoned established neighborhood outlet. I have enquired about a couple of items I needed to complete a project he said that he can order them for me but when I added I believe I can get them on eBay as well he said okay thank you very much and rudely hung up on me.I don’t believe that’s just because I choose to get one or two items from a different resource that I should face such reprisal and for this reason alone I will not return to the store and it really is a shame when you walk in you get that old time flavor that was so calm and many years ago. It was just not professional behavior and now my trust is lost. Sorry I just left this message by way of microphone I think it may be hard of hearing completely Miss worded the whole thing
Very expensive but has some good brands to pick from
This store is under terrible management! My family sold a beautiful piano to the store and the OWNER signed a receipt stating that he would pay us $1500. My mom took the receipt back to the store so she could pick up a check and not only was the salesperson incredibly rude to her but the owner refused to pay her the full amount. She could only get shake $1200 out of him. The owner is unprofessional, dishonest, and rude. This experience was the worst we have ever had to endure with any store and I hope this will serve as a warning to others to not trust this store. If I could give the store a negative score I would.
The owner and this place is a scam! My father tried to purchase a trombone for his grandson’s birthday and he just got ripped off by this place! We live out of town, so my father tried to order and purchase the trombone over the phone. Not only did we receive the completely wrong style trombone, but we received a lesser brand that is only worth $600 and my dad paid $1,200. I have tried to return this trombone for a month only to be hung up on, told to call back later because they are in the middle of moving a piano and then for their phone to be “out of service.” I made a last ditch effort again by calling this morning only to have the owner tell me that a refund “Isn’t going to happen!” And then be hung up on. My 84 year-old father is out $1,200.00 and we have a horn that is worth only half of that value. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS PLACE!!!! You will be sorry. My father taught music for over 30 years and has never dealt with a more unprofessional music store. I fully believe the owner knew what he was doing when he purchased the cheaper trombone and had it shipped to us. So he could pocket the difference!
Do not do business with this store. We stored our grand piano with SRMC for a few years. At first, they were really responsive and professional. They picked up our piano, and were very careful and communicated well. That was 2019. In 2022, when it came time for us to have our piano out of storage, the owner, Wayne, would not return phone calls. When I could get him on the phone, he would tell me that he was working with a customer and that he would call me back, but never did. He got an additional 6 months of storage fees out of me just due to his refusal to work with me. Then after we finally got the piano out of storage (which was exactly a year ago) he continued to charge my credit card the storage fee for months. Once again, multiple calls and visits to the store were useless. Every time I showed up during business hours, no one was there. I worked with my credit card company to stop the charges, but nothing short of closing the card worked. As of last month, we are finally free of this battle, and only because we had to close the card.
5. Loveland Violin Shop
Address: 618 4th St #207, Santa Rosa, CA 95404 , Santa Rosa , California , United States
Julian was very helpful and patient with my purchase. I thought he was the owner because he handled all the instruments with such care.
LOOK I
OKAY THANKS
I am writing after reading the other review and having had almost the opposite experience. I went into to Loveland (highly recommended by many people) for a repair on my cello after being told by another instrument repair that I should replace all my pegs and should probably get a new instrument. But, Loveland said my instrument was fine, they fixed the problem in a few minutes for 5 dollars and I have had no problems since.
Diferentes y variados sabores de pizzas
Left 130 year old violin for repair.
Muy vien
Eselente y buenos
Drove a long way to buy a violin..they were closed. When it said they were open
I recently decided to take up the violin, a friend gave me his old one and I took it to Loveland to have it checked out. I was immediately given the hard sell about how I should replace this “piece of junk” with a new $450 violin from Loveland, with custom this and special that, they hand cut the bridge for every violin! I felt like I was being sold a car by a smarmy dealer. I decided to rent a violin instead from another local company.
6. Groat Instruments
Address: 3222 Airway Dr #4, Santa Rosa, CA 95403 , Santa Rosa , California , United States
Groat Instruments has been building and repairing guitars for a LONG time. I have had him work on gear as disparate as a 1929 Martin acoustic all the way through my Tercer roundtop and even my new (to me) Schecter 12 string electric. He has had to hand make parts for some of my gear and they always turn out better than new!
Thanks Bob!
Bob Groat is one of the finest craftsmen in California! The beautiful and unique work that he produces will bring joy to the player for generations.. From a small guitar repair job to a complete custom build, Bob’s your man! He even makes amazing and artistic cases for instruments!
7. O’Hara Guitars
Address: 704 St Mary Dr, Santa Rosa, CA 95409 , Santa Rosa , California , United States
So I’d been having issues with the active electronics, and some buzzing fret issues on what was sold as a, “Set up out of the box!”, 5 string Schecter Hellraiser.
I called multiple people for help. Lucky for me, the God’s landed here.
I was in town from over the hill this afternoon for business.
1- He answered the phone.
(Rare for Luthiers)Luther’s.
I explained the symptoms, and my time constraints, but had my bass in the truck).
2- He at least said, “I’ve got appointments, but come by and let me see if it’s something I can remedy quick?”
3 – He assessed the issues, fixed the electronic issue,(active 18v emg setup), and through in a neck adjustment for fun, in a little under 15 minutes.
Emmitt is an absolute artist, and an absurdly talented tech. Most importantly, a cat that gets musicians.
I’ve got 3 guitars(cuz I’m a bass player) loaded up already for my next trip to town.
Emmett is great! Bought a Martin OM-21 a few years back and it was a beautiful instrument that buzzed a bit and I could tell needed some love. Emmett did his magic(for such a deal, too) and it came out sounding extraordinary.
Just picked up a vintage Morris that needs some love, too….and cant wait to see how it will sound after he gets his paws on it. He’s a wizard(and a great guy)..!
Experience and tools make for happy customers.
He kept my Guitar for three months and Never finished what I paid him to do. Then the repair came unglued three days after I picked up. Burnt out hack. Ill agree to take down this posting If he gives me my $100. back
8. The Next Record Store
Address: 1899 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa, CA 95401 , Santa Rosa , California , United States
Just big enough to browse without being overwhelming. Very reasonably priced (considering the current resurgence in vinyl) and a genuinely friendly staff.
A great Santa Rosa institution. Knowledgeable, friendly staff. Excellent selection of vinyl and CD’s in all genres.
Great used new selection
Found some great used records. They were very helpful.
Very nice, friendly, and helpful staff. I have recently begun to get interested in starting a vinyl collection and they offered helpful advice on getting started. Good selection, I was actually surprised by it.
My car has a CD player and the system is Bose the volume is always up and listen to all kinds of music
I purchased a new, unopened record from them. When I got home and opened it, I noticed the record was scratched. When I returned to the store with the damaged record and my receipt, they informed me that all sales were final and recommended that I contact the manufacturer. I could not believe my ears. Finally, they allowed me to swap it for another new record for the same price. When I asked the clerk if I could open it and inspect it before leaving this time, he rolled his eyes at me. This was the last time I will ever go there. And everyone wonders why record stores are going out of business…
