Super knowledgeable and amazing staff, they have everything you could be looking for
Great selection
I looked at the website Friday and Saturday and it said it closed at 7 I got there at 6-6:30 and they were already closed
Not open during posted hours waited 40 min in the rain and they never showed up…….
Unfortunately you are getting one star because of the building owner, I will not be returning due to his unprofessionalism. If 0 stars were available you’d be getting that. I will NEVER return to your shop as long as you operate out of the Tufted Puffin building.
They open an hour late and close an hour early even if business hours are updated. But when they are open its a nice place
2. Ukanuzit
Address: 339 5th Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
Great local thrift store, love the name!! Good deals especially considering we’re 150 miles from the nearest major stores
The staff is very friendly and helpful, and they have really good deals on everything. I would definitely recommend them!
She has everything you could ever want. Don’t miss it.
Very easy to drop off items to…
Very cheap merchandise, which was the whole purpose of this place. Crowdy but cute
They have a little of everything….cheap!
I have occasionally shopped here for years. Recently the owner has adopted a attitude towards me without cause as I have done nothing other than be a polite patron. I will now discontinue the latter as there are alternatives.
3. Gypsea Treasure Trunk
Address: 338 4th Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
This place is awesome!! Such a cool space with so many good finds at very reasonable prices and the owner is so sweet. I found lots of cool old brass pieces and my husband found some great deals on fishing gear. I had to hold myself back from buying everything I saw! I can’t wait to stop in if I ever pass through Seward again.
Nice place with pleasant people and always treasure to be found, good selection of dvds.
This thrift store is amazing! Right when you walk in, you’re met with all kinds of treasures. If you are in Seward you HAVE to stop by. You’ll find a thing or two that you didn’t know you needed!!
Super cute decor. Overpriced on most things. REEKED of weed, especially in the rear where the clothes are. They were BLASTING explicit music (don’t get me wrong, I love gangsta rap), but in a place of business where there were kids- it may be the way the world’s going, but we put anything we were going to buy down and left. No thanks.
4. Alaska Shop
Address: 210 4th Ave Box 209, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
Pretty decent alaskan shop for tourist check it out and see everything they have to offer, all of 4th Ave is a trap
Great shop for souvenirs! Tons of shirts and sweatshirts to choose from as well as lots of other items. This place was the jackpot for everything we needed.
Staff is very friendly and helpful! Bought a beautiful ulu knife that I collect! Really an awesome store! Highly recommend!!!
Found what I was looking for.
Very cool store
This store has lots of great souvenirs and gifts in Seward and I recommend anyone who visits Seward should stop by Alaska Shop.
Rude people and a bunch of trashy stuff. Don’t waste you time..
Probably the best souvenir shop we saw in Seward. Sadly though a worker (i think the owner) is extremely rude. He made a comment about our child not being controlled. He said everyone is expected to hold their toddlers in the store. When we said we would just leave he said “that’s fine, leave.” We left and then heard from a local he is known for being very rude and arrogant.
Don’t go here with toddlers unless they are on a leash. Or at least that’s what the grumpy old owner expects.
Ours had taken a few koozies and put them on the floor which I was about to pick up.
He came storming over and told us to “control our kid” and “kids needed to be held at all times”.
He could have asked nicely for us to pick them up and we still would have purchase everything we had but we put them all back, sadly, cause they had some nice stuff but we won’t support rude behavior.
5. Resurrect Art Coffee House
Address: 320 3rd Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
I just love this coffee house. Such character, and the view upstairs is spectacular!
Glad it was there.
Very popular so be prepared to wait 15-20 min in line and for coffee. Clean bathroom. Cute redefined church with neat sitting books and a “treasurection” section with used books and clothes. Coffees average prices for around here. A good number of sugar free syrups. Croissant over cooked but large enough to share.
Food at the bar and grill is half the price of the restaurant, both are in the same building. Food is good.
Not if you’re in a hurry. We waited 35 minutes. They have two lines, inside and outside, and didn’t manage it well. It is a cool building, and the coffee was fine, but make sure you have the time.
They were super busy, but I had to wait 15 minutes for a black drip coffee. I’m not sure if they were brewing a new batch or distracted with other drink orders, but this doesn’t happen at the larger brand with the green logo!
A black coffee should be poured immediately, not put at the back of the queue.
This is a coffee shop misstep and “pour” customer service, and isn’t the expectation I have when I buy drip coffee.
Bad service
6. Bay Traders True Value
Address: 1303 4th Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
Home Depot and Cabela’s all in one but with competent people working there. I have visited lots of hardware stores across the country and this is #1 in my book.
Go check out the upstairs. They have extra stuff
This store has everything you never knew you needed!
Employees always ready to help you.
Great looking store, clean, everything you need for the outdoors. They make you keep your bags at the front, then step on your stuff. Had 2 separate young employees that were aloof and showed irritation if you were shopping the isle they wanted to work in. Not nice staff but that seemed to be alot of the town.
The BEST street mural I’ve ever seen, on an ACE HARDWARE!!!! Check the street view 🙂
It’s an ok thrift store and hardware store, not much good stuff to find but the lady at the counter didn’t look happy to help us and it makes it really uncomfortable shopping here when seeing signs all over the walls saying “smile shoplifters your on camera” or “shoplifters will be prosecuted to the extend”. I don’t steal or ever have thoughts of it since Its my first time visiting alaska. They should just have security guarding every isle then
7. Once in a Blue Moose
Address: 230 4th Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
Friendly Staff and always funny gifts to find here. I do like looking at the gems that they have. I found a pretty ring and studded earrings of fireweed gemstones.
They have beautiful clothing and a variety of products, fun place to shop
Nice gift shop and very friendly staff
Good, touristy Alaska stuff
Ok. Nice selection.
Très cher
Frustrating Experience. Tried to buy a Totem Pole by a craver I recognized from my previous trip to Alaska, but it didn’t have a price on it. I asked the sales clerk for help and he said there was no bar code and left me standing there. He made no attempt to find out the price so I could buy it. Then I asked how much were the candy bars on the counter, he said, “four something-ish.” Clearly, this company did not want my business, so I took my money and left.
8. Redbox
Address: 1907 Seward Hwy, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
Such a nice little place. Great charcuterie and snacks, and a great view of the mountains from one of the bars! Clearly, a lot of thought and care went into this adorable wine bar. Thanks for having us!
Staff is friendly, inviting, and the food was incredible! They also have amazing gluten free options. Highly recommend!
Fantastic sandwiches and focaccia pizzas
Such a great spot with yummy food and a cute, French type atmosphere. It reminded me of the last time we were in Paris! I had the Caprese sandwich and the burrata plate. Both were amazing. I went back the next day because they were so good and got the same thing. Unfortunately both times I went in, the woman at the counter was beyond incredibly rude, to both myself and my mom when she went in a separate time, which is always a bummer when you find a great spot. Everybody has bad days though, so hopefully she’s having a better one 🙂
I wouldn’t expect a place in Seward, AK to be pretentious but you pulled it off. Unwelcome and rude was how we were greeted when we entered your establishment. We were more than happy to patronize your establishment and purchase the some of your wares which we did in order to use the restroom. In speaking with you I learned the “vibe” your going for in the wine bar wasn’t the one we put off. So sorry we didn’t measure up to your standard, however as a latrine your establishment is adequate.
10. Tony’s Bar & Liquor Store
Address: 135 4th Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
Bring cash, but a great place to grab a beer! A mix of locals and tourists inside. No one turned an eye toward us and it made us feel at home. Fun bar with a good selection. The décor is off the walls and very fun!
Wonderful service! Karma went above and beyond. She’s fantastic. Made us feel so welcome while we visited Seward
Great place to hang out and play pool
No bars have food. Ok atmosphere but live music Friday and Saturday. I the Alehouse better.
Fun local bar, attached to the liquor store. You have to get the bartender to let you in and be your cashier, so maybe wait until you’ve had a drink at the bar before you move to the liquor store if you plan to do both, because the bartender needs to hold your purchase behind the bar if you stay. Good crowd, fun stuff on the walls.
Good service good atmosphere
If maybe the bartender cracked a smile and came around to ask if we needed anything, tip would of been good.
Bartender tried to fight the customers! He was drunk, belligerent, and aggressive towards all customers who came in and refused to serve many. A black mark on our trip to Alaska and will make sure to never visit Seward again.
Cash only, unfortunately, and they have an ATM that takes $3.5 on top of whatever fee your bank is charging you. So this $7 beer quickly turned into something like $14 with the tip, fees etc….. Not a good deal.
The bartender was only chatty with locals/regulars. I wanted to spend an hour relaxing here but I did not feel welcome.
11. The Pit Bar & Liquor Store
Address: 11857 Seward Hwy, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
Good selection and very knowledge staff about the local brew selection.
Stopped here for a drink based on recoomendation from another bar in town. Place is more of a local spot and was kind of run down. Drinks were cold but not somewhere I’d recommend
Came in for a buddies baby shower. Had 2 bloody Mary drinks that would make Bourbon St jealous. Large rooms. Good atmosphere.
Had a good time there talking to the locals. They have good pizza too. Even got to see a bar scuffle. Open til 5am
It sure was a pit hole. This place reeked of garbage the prices of ‘special shots’ were ridiculously high, I spent 29 dollars on 3 of these special shots plus a soda.
Hey so whether you’re a local or not, This place will double charge you on your tab. Make sure you pay attention and ask for a receipt when you pay out. They’ll overcharge you for drinks you don’t have. It’s happened to me multiple times and it’s usually when certain staff are working nights.
Nice place. The bartenders weren’t the best. They seemed more interested in flirting with each other than helping guests. I think the one lady had me confused for someone else. I went outside to smoke, came back and she told me I had to leave. I tried asking why and she wouldn’t say. Wouldn’t let me close out my tab, just said I had to go. It was super inconvenient because I don’t live in Seward and she kept my card.
12. Sea Bean Cafe
Address: 225 4th Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
Very busy on the morning visited but food and coffee was very good.
Great food. Everything we ordered was made really well. Veggie bagel, berry smoothie bowl, breakfast burrito were some of the delicious eats that we ordered.
Slow service, very expensive. Ok food
The pastries look amazing baristas are nice and they have Wi-Fi
Open at 7 but no food until 8
Took 30 minutes to get a small iced coffee. If you have all day to waste stop in quick for morning coffee, otherwise avoid.
Horrific ownership full of misdirection and manipulation with young and/or international kids. DO NOT WORK HERE.
I can’t say this was a great dining experience – the chowder is amazing, but everything else was not. I couldn’t believe what they provided for the Nutella sandwich, at best a low quality home made packed lunch that you trade with your friend for a hostess. The Buddha bowl was confusing and not fully prepared.
13. Gold Rush Bistro
Address: 203 4th Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
Had a huge king crab leg and an amazing cup of seafood chowder! Wonderful atmosphere and attention to detail. Not busy at all, I don’t understand why it is not packed, the food was so good!
Dietary restrictions: Lots of shelfish
Really nice food! Try the chowder and the hamburgers!
Had great food and service. I got the Z burger and it was perfect and great buttered fries. My mom got their king crab and chowder combo and was extremely happy with it. The leg was massive and she said the chowder was excellent.
Decent food but it was seriously overpriced for what we got. I get that it caters to tourists, but if looking for a bite in town, I’d go somewhere else next time.
Good menu, service was slow and food was cold. price is high but not crazy for seward
This place was nice but a little pricey compared to other places near by. The wait was a little long but not bad for only having one or two cooks. The food tasted great and the fries were very crispy. Breakfast was not served at lunch time. The staff was very nice.
The food was HORRIBLE! I paid $30 for halibut and chips and it was thin, dry and salty fish that was not actually halibut. For that price the food should be really good and this was so bad I couldn’t even eat it. The soup was bland and awful as well. We had to add hot sauce to add flavor. We spent $60 for lunch and the service was slow and the food was the worst I’ve had. Do not eat here. Can’t believe they stay in business with overpriced awful food.
Service was just okay and my breakfast could’ve been a lot better! I ordered the corned beef and hash with eggs and instead of the bread option I wanted bacon, it came out and I didn’t get hash just bacon eggs and potatoes asked where the hash was and was told you switched for bacon, on the menu it looked like add bacon instead of the biscuit, well anyway the potatoes were ice cold, the bacon was greasy and burnt and only got one coffee refill so after 3 minutes the coffee was cold as well, not cool on a rainy morning! Wishing we went somewhere else, will be next time.
Nothing special
14. Music & Arts
Address: 4623 Old Seward Hwy, Anchorage, AK 99503 , Seward , Alaska , United States
Hayden Sterling fixed my wifes brothers guitar for free of charge after he told me they were no longer doing consignments as a way of showing good faith. I teach with this guitar every day and it plays like a dream.
If you look at the staff, the same year round staff members are workibg at the store and fI respected them highly before the buyout and I respect them highly now.
Hayden has time and time again done extra things for my family and me as a musician and teacher in the community.
I look at it like this. The Music and Arts store is provided a service that is not another video game store or screen time outlet for kids. They are bringing more music instruments to this state and they are doing things differently. No business that takes over another business does things the same way.
So, if the previous customer service by the same people was awesome, it will continue to be awesome. That beats the hell out of another amazon sellibg first act guitars to sixth graders. The community needs this store and the employees there are going to keep the same level of customer service going.
There will be some differences. I say judge your store employees by the content of their character and allow them the chance to either earn your business or decide to go elsewhere. No need to trash the employees who are now getting healthcare options that didnt have that before.
We are a long time client of the Music Man. Many students, many instruments, music lessons, etc. About 6 months ago I went to inquire about upgrading my daughters saxophone through their trade up program. They offered to buy back the entry level saxophone we purchased from MM and put that credit towards the purchase of the (much more expensive) next level of sax. I went in with my daughter on Friday to complete this task, old saxophone in hand right from the get go. She tried the new sax, loved it, and we went to the register. They then let me know they no longer offered a trade up program for students who purchased their instruments through MM due to new ownership. They also no longer offer a rent to own program. I was surprised they weren’t honoring any of the prior agreements or business plans that MM had offered, which were incredible for students wanting to give an instrument a try. The staff at M&A did “call the owner” who confirmed they were not honoring any former programs offered by the MM, no buyback, no credit towards new instruments, trade ins, etc. After a very frustrating visit, I ended up purchasing the new sax outright, and left with the entry level sax as well. But the business model of Music and Arts is not one that i’ll continue to visit, which is a shame because we really loved the Music Man. I will say Hayden was fabulous to work with at Music and Arts and very empathetic about parents, like myself, who were long time clients of the MM. M&A has lost my future business, we’ll be going to the Horn Doctor from here on out.
15. Whiteys Music Shoppe
Address: 43335 Kalifornsky Beach Rd #26, Soldotna, AK 99669 , Seward , Alaska , United States
Ready like the store very helpful and always friendly attitude thank you
Whitey’s had a pretty good vibe. It’s not a huge music store, but it does have a decent selection of instruments to choose from. The staff was very helpful and helped me get exactly what I was looking for while making small talk. Overall a good experience. The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is because it’s pretty small and might not have everything you’re looking for, but it’s worth a visit to stop by and ask.
Doesn’t open till 12 o’clock and is closed on Thursdays.
Update: drove 30 miles today to come to whiteys, only to find that they were closed on Wednesday at 530 when there sign clearly stated till 6 pm….I knew this hence why I drove that from to come here……..this is infuriating…….how’s a business of such low caliber stay alive……..too bad I have to give them a star at all
16. Van Gilder Hotel
Address: 308 Adams St, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
We went twice in our short stay in Seward. The elote tacos and cilantro lime rice were so good. Staff was friendly and good vibe. Limited seating but worth it.
Me and my wife came to visit Seward, AK on a day trip from Anchorage during our vacation….we absolutely loved this place and highly recommend to anyone wanting to have a taste of Mexican food. Allan on the register is super friendly and helpful ….BTW Carnitas Tacos are the best!!
The tortas and tacos were great! Service was great as well. Would recommend!
Tasty tacos, both Carne Asada and chicken meat were too dry
Food was good! The hostess was charming and lovely. The service was super fast. Not a lot of options but at least you don’t spend 10 minutes debating on what you want 🙂
Had a steak and fish taco both were very good
Overpriced. $20 for a burrito and a sprite! Burrito was bland and all cabbage
Save your money another rip off joint in Seward
Overpriced and the tiny amount of food is absurd and insulting. Tamales were mushy and not authentic at all.
Ordered two pork Taco’s rice and beans. Taco’s has cabbage instead of lettuce. Rice was tasteless and beans tasted like they were out of a giant Costco can. Took one bit of each and threw it all away. Garbage food
18. Mermaid Grotto and Kraken Lounge
Address: 412 Port Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
Kraken Mermaids and Steam Punk oh my! This is a great little restaurant! So many great options hard to choose from.
The service, food, and decor there was phenomenal! Great outdoor seating with some yard games available. Plenty of indoor seating with a bar upstairs. My favorite place in town!
Food is soo good. Service
Cool atmosphere, would be a nice place to get some work done on your laptop, but they don’t have wifi for patrons, which seems odd for a coffee place (it’s part cafe, part restaurant, part gift shop. I ordered from the cafe). The avocado toast was mediocre and not worth what it cost due to portion size and the overall quality of it. This place seemed like it had a lot of potential when I first got here, but I ended up being very disappointed. Might return to give it one more chance and try out the upstairs restaurant, but not sure if it would be worth it.
Really cute place! Lots of shopping to do, a decent beer list, and a full Cafe menu as well. We unfortunately missed breakfast, but I did order an Island Chicken Rice Bowl. It was tasty enough, definitely unique! They seemed a little understaffed but the staff was very friendly. Also has a beer garden.
Okay not bad at all grat services
Gravy cold. Not enough seating. There was upstairs seating and the lady said said sorry that isn’t open. Had to stand and eat. Awful. No customer service skills
Terrible customer service. The waitress up top was extremely rude and unprofessional, I understand that there is staff shortages but acting like that is unacceptable. We decided to go downstairs to get coffee and the cashier didn’t even bother saying hello or asking us what we wanted – she instead just stared at us blankly.
The food was terrible. We got most things in the menu within our party and the only person who liked it was the person who got the burger. I hate to leave bad reviews but the food was so bad that it was impressive. No spices and it was dry. Most of us couldn’t finish it because it was so bad
19. Lighthouse Cafe & Bakery
Address: 1215 4th Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
We started coming to this bakery on my first trip to Alaska in 1996. It has been through a few owners and ups and downs in quality, but this past visit was a very positive one. You can still just order at the counter to-go but there is also now a full service restaurant. We had a grilled cheese, a grilled ham and cheese and a chili dog. Fresh artisan breads made the sandwiches exquisite. Chili dog was huge and did not cause any GI upset as some tend to do which was great since we went hiking right after eating. Will continue coming here on our trips to Seward.
I can say this was one of the nicest staff in the whole area! The food and service was excellent!!! They are not ashamed of their faith and I for one greatly appreciate them taking a stand. Definitely will be back.
Lighthouse café and bakery..
all of the pastries are premade the night before and all the food is made to order.
this is an old school Christian family owned and operated restaurant. That either draws people in, or pushes them away. The owner is usually the cashier and he is looking to take your order, not to stop the line for anything special. anyone who has had a problem with the staff, does not know that 75% of the staff are not from America, most are J1 students that come to work for the summer. You would not believe the amount of impatience that the owners deal with people who are in a rush, or used to being waited on hand and foot straight off the cruise ships. or, not understanding that most of the staff do not speak fluent English. this is a great place for breakfast or some pastries before your tour. be patient and kind! that is all these people ask for and that’s what you shall receive.
Food was tasty. Service was good. Front counter guy was cantankerous but efficient.
I am on vacation and on California time. This place was open early and so earned my business! Great coffee and delicious flap jacks.
My breakfast burrito was delicious; so was the coffee. This is a counter order place. It was great for grabbing a bite on the way to the Fjord tour. I also enjoyed hearing the three gentlemen talking about the Bible
Food ok slow service
Food is about the same under the new name, Lighthouse Cafe and Bakery. It seems the owners are hiring J-1 visa workers though. I couldn’t understand them very well. All foreigners mixed with a few local workers.
We came in for lunch. My mother who has a PHD, a 7th degree black belt and who is a dean of a university was treated very poorly. My mother was racially profiled as if she were a low life vagabond. She simply asked to have her fried egg sandwich made with no yoke due to her restricted diet. The counter person was a middle aged Caucasian man who treated my very successful mother like trash.
20. Seward Urban Barbershop
Address: 216 4th Ave Unit B1, Seward, AK 99664 , Seward , Alaska , United States
Mourad is awesome. Best haircut I’ve ever received. Seriously. He’s good. The man is passionate about his work. Keep in mind he is a Barber, specializing in men’s haircut. Not a hair stylist for the ladies. Please respect the guy. He will
hook you up
Quick, full service, honest feedback, and more skilled than most in seattle
Sent my husband to clean up his beard. He liked the hot towel shave and the price. I like that he doesn’t look like he’s been living in a cave for the last decade anymore. Thanks for being in Seward!!!
There’s no way this guys been cutting hair for twenty years. Not regularly anyway.
