The owner of Kirmse’s, Cara, goes out of her way to make sure that her staff get the opportunity to meet and speak with the artists whose work she sells in her amazing gallery. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet with Cara’s friendly and knowledgeable staff, while here in Skagway, and to purchase some beautiful, yet affordable, items to take home with me. If you arrive in Skagway, on a cruise ship, and have a limited amount of time to spend in this quaint little town, you should definitely spend some of that time at Kirmse’s.
One of the best places in Skagway for authentic items by real local craftspeople. Employees are friendly and extremely knowledgable.

I was looking for some local artwork as a keepsake from my Alaskan cruise, and I was drawn to the unique and high quality collection at Lynch & Kennedy. Very different from the cheesy souvenir shops, I could tell the items they carry are hand selected and more meaningful – at least that’s the vibe I got, modern yet authentic. I rarely travel and I’m by no means an art collector, so I was apprehensive at first. The friendly staff explained that I could ship my purchase back home to Indiana for a flat rate. It arrived in perfect condition, and I would recommend Lynch & Kennedy to any travelers in the area looking for something special.
I bought three gold nuggets from Lynch & Kennedy ten days ago. 9, 13, and 21 grams. I brought them back to a gold dealer in Fort Myers and had them analyzed. The 13 and the 21 gram nuggets were unquestionably gold nuggets, based on their quartz content, and their “other than gold” content, ie, silver, lead, iron and copper. The 9 gram nugget was considered “likely” a nugget, suspect only because it was 98.83% gold, with only silver and copper as “contaminates”. Essentially too pure to be a likely nugget. My people did not consider the 9 gram nugget a fraud, just an unusually high quality nugget. If I had brought it in without the other two obvious nuggets they might have been suspect. My gold dealer believed that the price I paid for these nuggets was well within the range of nuggets on the market.
I highly recommend Lynch and Kennedy. Spending big bucks like I did last week takes a leap of faith, but I would highly recommend them as opposed to other nugget vendors in town.
Purchased a water bottle that said Alaska on it for $48 ‘from lynch and Kennedy in Skagway , then returned to my ship where I washed and sanitized it, for use while in Juneau. Just as soon as I departed ship the lid appeared to be leaking so I tightened i with no luck so L dumped it to see and evaluate its condition ,well it still leaks , I’ve reached out to there website to see if and what can be done, ‘Ill do a follow up to there response.

Rude staff told us they would be locking the door and closing soon as soon as we went inside. It was about 430 on a Sunday. Their hours posted are until 7.
It appeared that they had nice things, but we turned around and shopped elsewhere.

My wife and I love to buy local art as we travel. We wandered around Skagway and found this shop. It was a little more bare bones than the other art shops around but has plenty of character. I think it was Janet that was working helped us understand the local styles but didn’t pressure us into buying. We bought two prints, one had to be shipped all the way back to NC (to big for the plane ride home). It just arrived today in perfect condition. All art comes with the bio of the local artist. Exactly what we were looking for!
What a wonderful shop. My family kept going back to get one more thing. It was so nice to be able to shop at a local shop with unique choices. The paintings we bought are beautiful reminders of our visit to Skagway.
If you’re going to Skagway, don’t miss this store. Not only do I recommend it because of the unique selection of beautiful local art, I was impressed by the warm and helpful staff. They went out of their way, long after I was gone, to ensure my satisfaction. This note from the owner reflects their kindness.
Some great artwork here. We bought a piece here and it was helpfully packaged up and ready for our trip home. And a good range of sizes. The store was very crowded and our first interaction with the clerk wasn’t helpful, but once we wanted to buy something she became much more helpful

Had a cod salad and the spruce tip beer. Salad excellent. Beer very good – of course all depends on your taste. Sat at the bar upstairs and sampled a few of their current beers. Decent range of options.
I wanted an authentic Skagway brew made with the tip tops of Spruce trees. Brewed on site and recommended by the gentleman working in the gift shop. His coworker said she prefers the Saison. I chose the Spruce Tip Blonde cuz I heard it was higher in Vitamin C (nudge wink)
We came in here for beers whilst in port. Really cool atmosphere as the building opened a few months back. I can’t speak for the food since we didn’t try any, but prices looked reasonable.
Each beer we tried was unique and delicious!
Beer was very overpriced…service not that great and refused to provide wifi for customers. Do not visit unless you want to be ripped off.
Fish and chips was 22 bucks. I only got two small slivers of fish and a bunch of soggy, over-salted fries.. Add drink and tip and I was at forty bucks! I wasn’t from a cruise ship, but I don’t know how the locals afford to eat here with these prices and such poor quality!
We like to visit local establishments. We know we are tourists and don’t try to pretend we’re not, and will spend money locally. We like to sit at the bar and enjoy an IPA (which was excellent) and conversation. Unfortunately, the bartender here made us feel so unwelcome. He wouldn’t even look us in the eye. We did not stay and eat, but enjoyed the gift shop and bought some good gifts and had a nice interaction with the cashier downstairs. Wish I could have said better things. Maybe next time

They are amazing! The front desk woman is so sweet. I have seen two doctors there and both were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The nurses were great as well! I have had bad experiences in the past with medical professionals and I just can’t believe how they managed to obtain such wonderful staff in such a small community. You guys are awesome, keep up the good work!
This place is a joke. Not only did they almost give me a heart attack when I came in with kidney stones, but they are taking my husband off medication he’s been on for years, no weaning process. This medication can cause you to go in to major withdrawals. He needs it for severe anxiety and this place doesn’t care. They treat you like a drug addict if you need anything other than Tylenol, are completely helpless if they don’t like you, and lie about a drug being unprescribable because of the FDA. But then when you provide evidence that they are lying, they just say they can’t do it. My husband isn’t on pain meds, despite living in dibilitating pain every single day, and yet they treat him as if his medical issues are a joke to them. I’ve never had a nurse or doctor treat me like an idiot, until I came here. The things they say to people just shock me. Strongly considering having my attorney do something about this. It’s inhumane the way they treat people who actually need help. I love the town, but this place couldn’t care less if you need help. Disgusting.

Definately the warmest and most courteous customer service I’ve ever encountered.. Walked in with my daughter was quickly asked if I would like to check out an instrument.. Asked for 12 string acoustic the gentlemen grabbed the last one hanging quickly tuned it up, without hesitation the most comfortable place I have been in a long time.. Just blown away … Prices were just amazing.. If you hace instruments that need a tune up or service needed strongly recommend bringing it to them thank you very much the “TAVARES FAMILY”..

Very informative, lots of knowledge about everything
The staff is super helpful and enthusiastic. There were also free prints from a local craft event when I went as well as maps and tour guides for the area.
We were actually just walking around beautiful downtown Skagway. It seems like a town I could spend a lot more time in. No stoplights, very peaceful.

Beautiful, unique building, completely covered with driftwood: about 9.000 pieces. Visitor’s information center with helpful people, clean restrooms, free maps, brochures, etc.
Whatever you do when visiting Skagway. Do not and I repeat .. Do not use M&M Tours for any reason. They will sell you a tour at any cost just to get the sale. They lied to me and when I talk to the owner Mark Jennings, He was rude and belittled me. I even reached out the Visitation Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce and have yet to receive any satisfaction. When I speak to anyone I will advise them to stay away from this place.

Loved the service, the views, and especially the beer.
We stopped here for few hours after our cruise ship docked in Skagway. Their local Spruce ale called Whipsaw, was solid so please try. There’s a beautiful beer garden in the back where you can just chill and enjoy your beer and views. The staff was very friendly and full of information. A must visit if you’re in town
Absolutely amazing place!! Awesome staff, super freidly and helpful. Atmosphere was very nice with options for inside and outside seating, really nicely decorated as well! All the beer we tried was very delicious, they also have a hard seltzer and rootbeer on tap! Would recommend to anyone and everyone coming to skagway!
Good beer 1 bathroom and no food was disappointing
Another solid brewery in Skagway! Like Skagway Brewing Co, they have their own version of locally-loved (and personally-loved as well) Spruce Tip Ale. Great people and awesome gold-rush saloon vibe! Great brews, but no food if you are looking for lunch. On 2nd, just off Broadway. Definitely worth a visit!

Ate here during our June Cruise. Red Onion was full so strolled up the street snd fiscovered The Bonanza! Glad we made that choice!! Great food (and a lot of it), Great & Friendly service! It was super busy! A lot of Minnesota Sports memorabilia on the wall behind the bar area! Coming from the Dakotas and following MN college and prof sports, it was fun to see. Would definitely recommend this spot!

A nice chill place
Large pub in the middle of Skagway which is really only a town with one Main Street. The highlight was the Spruce Tip beer which is only brewed once a year when the Spruce tree is sprouting new growth. Be careful though as it’s 9% so just like drinking a pint of wine!

As someone who’s worked in the restaurant industry, I know how difficult it can be, i’m always patient with staff. But the way we were treated was appalling. Our server, (a blonde lady with a ponytail) was rude, dismissive and quite frankly should not be in a customer service industry.
The food itself looked like it was from a high school cafeteria. The portions were small for the exorbitant prices.
The billing at the end was extremely unprofessional, we had to wait ages for our bill and “it can’t be split three ways, because the machine is old” yeah right. Not to mention they added a 18% fee with no option to back out of.
Do better Bonanza! This is unacceptable.
Went to Skagway for a day trip and decided to try a new place, I was thoroughly disappointed. Though the wait staff was attentive one girl was quite rude with my table when it came to paying.
I ordered the fish and chips for 22$ and ended up with 3 fish sticks the length of my thumb and cold fries. Not impressed, would not recommend.
Can not comment on the food since we never received our order.. Service was horrible. Server took order and never put our order in. Asked another server about our drinks, found out our order wasn’t put in so we left. Pathetic experience. Would not recommend to anyone. Really I don’t have the words to express my dissatisfaction and the only reason I gave 1 star is I can’t post if I don’t put in at least 1 star.

As good Italian as I am, a great coffee is a treat I can’t never resist! Well, few days ago I was in Skagway and I went to Cafè on 5th where I had the best Chai latte I ever had in months! Afterall i tryied the homemade lavanda biscuits and my mouth was just in heaven. I set on the bench just outside the coffee shop for about 2 hours, enjoying the sun and the lovely conversation with Valery and Pablo, the owners. Thank you for putting so much love and passion on what you do, making my day a better day and I can wait to see you next week!

Fairly unfriendly staff with mediocre food.
We have been on vacation for two weeks and this was the low lite of the entire trip. This is supposed to be a turn of the century saloon and brothel but there was nothing special about it. Our waitress had no personality. The beer was great but the nachos were terrible, chips, cheese that was probably at some point melted and we paid extra for 6 cubes of chicken. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

Terrific place great local crab and run by local people! A real breather to get away from the Criuse Shippers.
We absolutely loved this place. Dillon recommended the Halibut and Chips along with the King Crab. It was so delicious. The atmosphere was wonderful and I can’t say enough good things about Dillon. He was kind and thoughtful. He gave us some good information about the area which was extremely useful. We would travel back to Skagway again just to eat there.

I got take-out of smoked salmon burger n ate right after. It was ok. It had very mild in terms of smoky flavor and bit dry.
I would have expected it to be bit more smoky and moist. May be just my choice, may be should have gone for grilled instead.

Great place! Fast and friendly service. Worth it everytime I go there. By far one of my favorite places in town, will be going all summer. Was told by a friend to order the bisque to dip my fries in and I was not let down. For sure check this place out!
A real gem in Skagway, Woadie’s was our favourite spot! We liked it so much we came back multiple times to try out more of the menu. The owner is Native Alaskan and a veteran who came back to Skagway to open up the place. The space has a lot of love put into it with a friendly atmosphere and beautiful wood outdoor seating area. The staff is so cheerful and service was so fast even despite the line.
We ended up trying half the menu during our time in Skagway. Here are our faves: the bisque, the king crab, the oysters, the delicious fries and the poke. Goes perfect with a pitcher of cold local beer. We had the raspberry sour from Klondike. Their mascot Smokey does a great job chasing away birds and saying hi to everyone while they wait.
Some of the best king crab and fish I’ve ever had, service is phenomenal. If you go to Skagway, you’d be missing out if you don’t stop here!!
Ate lunch here 9/18 (sorry for the typo) The halibut and salmon fish & chips were not anywhere near as fabulous as were recommended, but never trust a tour bus driver, eh? I suggest you look elsewhere if halibut and salmon are on your gotta have menu. Sorry, Woadie.

How about you edit the stuff about “not saying you’re lying,” which where I come from means you’re calling me a liar. I went easy on your restaurant, sir. Cute place, friendly service, cold food. We had just finished a long day of work and were looking forward to a beer and some fish. Took awhile for how slow it was, but that happens. However, when our food was ready we were surprised by the tiny portions and cold fries. I don’t mind being spendy, this was not worth the cost at all:-/
We found this place off the main street based on a referral from the Skagway furrier… Smallest oysters on the half shell we have EVER had… 6/$18 is ridiculous and completely not worth ordering, not to mention they took forever to be ready…(there is a pic with a previous review … the 6 we were served were similar to the smallest on that plate). Also tried the halibut ceviche… literally 1/2-3/4 cup with very toasted chips… again, NOT even close to the ceviche we are used too. Nice staff, but very disappointing skimpy servings… especially since this place was highly recommended.
Over rated and over priced fast food. Not recommended.
