Great place to bring your saxophone for a tune up. Staff is knowledgeable and super friendly. Prices are very fair. I would give them 10 stars if I could!
Cool local music shop.. Got my kids ukulele here..
Friendly, good service, and good price. Tucked away in the alley off the main street.
Rentals and all else was spot on.
Customer service could get much better, it’s good to be polite and considerate to all customers.
[Repair flute
Fair pricing and quick turnaround time on repairs.
I went to replace a bow that they said was fine, I thought they wouldn’t replace the bow but they did. They told me they would give me a bow with the same weight and pretty much the same bow. But they gave me a fiberglass bow instead of a carbo fiber bow, that is heavier then the old one. I’m second chair in an orchestra and a concert is coming soon. I’m not sure want to do, I don’t have anyone to bring me back to the store.
Poor selection of strings for cello, took 30 minutes to buy 2 strings, they came loose in a paper bag with no product information. Had to ask to ecwn learn that they were steel core nickel wound. Strings were very low quality for the price.
3. Saga Musical Instruments
Address: 240A Lawrence Ave, South San Francisco, CA 94080 , South San Francisco , California , United States
I’ve used Alex for years. He does fantastic work at very fair prices, and way faster than any other luthier I’ve ever used. As long as he’s here, why would I ever go elsewhere?!
5. H.I.T. Wall Rehearsal Studios
Address: 120 S Linden Ave #116, South San Francisco, CA 94080 , South San Francisco , California , United States
Although late at night…it seemed like all those that have a spot there love it and when you appreciate and are grateful you receive the same respect…
My love records there. Love the Gucci sunglasses mom gave to me and you of course sevin
My band and I share the space that were in with another band. We have been tenants here for over 8 years, and the owners have been treating us pretty well in terms of not raising rent. The value is nice since we can store our equipment in there.
Many rooms. Not sound proof.
Isn’t exactly sound proof. Was trying to record audio for a short film but wasn’t able to because of how loud the jam session downstairs was.
We’ve been calling and emailing for weeks with no response is this real a business?
6. Trakworx Mastering & Recording
Address: 430 N Canal St #13, South San Francisco, CA 94080 , South San Francisco , California , United States
ANALOG MOJO AND VIBE! That’s what I got at Trakworx Mastering. He uses tons of killer tube gear and analog tape that breathes life into my tracks. If I’m gonna pay someone to master my stuff then I want to hear some magic for my money. That’s why I keep going back to Justin. Plus, he hears and fixes things that I missed in my mixes. His rates are cheap for the quality he delivers. I couldn’t be happier. 5 STARS!
Justin is a true mastering master. Don’t let the great rate fool you. I’ve worked with the best most expensive and he’s equal as amazing.
One of the best mastering engineers in the country! I’ve been sending mixes to Justin for years and always get great results.
7. Future Sound Audio/Video Design Group
Address: 201 Linden Ave, South San Francisco, CA 94080 , South San Francisco , California , United States
I’ve worked with Peter on two separate occasions where he has helped me pick an integrated amplifier with two floor-standing speakers and two bookshelf speakers (for different rooms) and then upgrade the amplifier and add two REL subwoofers to my main speakers.
What stands out about my experience:
– Peter is very knowledgable
– He does not push for a sale but instead gives you advice, has you think about what you’re looking for and spends a lot of time letting you listen to music at his facility
– Installation is prompt, professional and he and his team take the time to set up the system and spend time with you to go over your new system
I can recommend him without reservation.
I have used Future Sound (both the Palo Alto and South San Francisco stores) for over 20 years. They have installed, maintained and upgraded both my multi-room music system and home theater. Their product line is first class as is their technical expertise. Their availability is excellent should issues arise with equipment settings, wifi configuration, software updates etc. They have my highest recommendation.
Peter Lee of Future Sound provides excellent service and support for high end audio & video needs. He is very knowledgeable about equipment, but also researches and understands the companies who manufacture these products to select which ones he will offer. He also takes trade-ins when it’s time to upgrade making it easy to transition. Check out the showroom in SSF and let Peter guide you into better sounding music!
8. Phoenix Sound Design
Address: 432 N Canal St, South San Francisco, CA 94080 , South San Francisco , California , United States
Every kind of books and information that you need about musical instruments, you will be able to find.
Great customer service and prices
So much variety and equipment! You can find sheet music too. Everyone is so nice and sometimes you can catch some nice piano practicing.
Definitely would recommend and visit again
Friendly well-equipped music store. Needed a cheap harmonica for my class. The nice assistant found me just what I needed rather than try to sell me something expensive.
The worst place to buy a instrument they sold me a junk instrument for 1,000 when I went back with receipt they gave me run around and would not take it back
The older man isnt very welcoming. However there was a nicer younger man.
11. Magic Shop LLC
Address: 432 N Canal St # 12, South San Francisco, CA 94080 , South San Francisco , California , United States
highly recommend this place fast service and very helpful with you
Typical corner store. Cigarrettes, Liquor, milk, Pho, juice, beer. The usual items. Now with a taco truck in the parking lot, to make it a one stop affair.
14. Bay Fine Strings
Address: 488 San Mateo Ave, San Bruno, CA 94066 , South San Francisco , California , United States
I had a great experience shopping for a violin for my daughter at Bay Fine Strings. Thomas Yee was really helpful in providing us with a great range of options within our price range. We met him at his workshop and he allowed my daughter to play each violin to get a sense of what we liked. After going through all of the violins, he even brought out a few more, and we ended up borrowing a few for a week to try out at home. He kept in constant communication with us to see how we liked the violins and even brought a couple more for us to try out at home. I highly recommend Bay Fine Strings if you’re looking to buy a quality instrument.
Thomas was great! He was referred to me to fix my daughters cello. He worked with me to find the best option to repair it and did an amazing job! He was quick to respond over email and saw me the next day! He knows what he’s doing.
I live thousands of miles away, in Virginia. I had shopped for bows in all of the places within a 3 hour drive of my house. I found Thomas Yee’s shop online because I was interested in a particular bow maker. He has nice pictures and good descriptions of all of the available bows on his website. I didn’t end up liking that bow, but he had a very large selection of other bows. He talked with me about my playing and selected bows he thought I would like. It took two shipments of bows, but I got one that I really like. Thank you, Thomas!
Flo, at Highlifeflo’s in South San Francisco, is extremely professional in his work and always caters to the artist’s needs. He works quickly but also pays great attention to detail, and his work is not compromised by his speed. His studio is kept immaculate and clean, and he is partaking in the proper health protocols to keep everybody safe during these difficult times. I always feel at home when I come to Highlifeflo’s, which is important to me as an artist.
I don’t trust anyone other than flo with my music!
If you’re spending money on your music you should invest wisely from the go!
Been going to flo for 3 years and no one else has done what flo has for my music. Always a good conversation. Good people good music.
Best studio in the United States, if you can get it, you’re lucky! He’s amazingly talented and well worth the wait. Cannot believe I met such a talented engineer and producer!
17. Russo Music
Address: 4072 24th St, San Francisco, CA 94114 , South San Francisco , California , United States
Was there briefly on my spring break and bought some sheet music for a bargain.
Then I accidentally forgot my credit card there D:
But I called them and they had it and sent it to me! Very nice 🙂
They deserve 5 *’s!!!
The best music lessons in San Francisco! Nicole, one of the owners, is an extremely professional, talented individual. I also recommend them for instrument rentals in San Francisco. Thank you Russo Music!
Had a wonderful experience renting an electric guitar and amp from Russo Music!!
When I was picking up the instrument, a teacher at the school showed me how to tune the guitar, hold it correctly, and even play some beginner chords. Everyone was very nice and welcoming.
This is also the only place in San Francisco that allowed me rent the guitar month to month with no minimum months. The process of renting the guitar was quick and easy. After renting the guitar for several months and practicing, I feel confident going to a guitar store and buying a guitar that works for me!
I am excited to come back to Russo Music to rent again or take music lessons!
This is where we go to get strings for my son’s guitars, he also enjoys playing a little everytime we go.
Update 8/2019: things have much improved this year!
Great teachers in a terribly mismanaged shop. I’ve been going here for piano lessons for more than a year, and things have been getting markedly worse. One teacher didn’t show up last week, I still can’t figure out why: they no longer have someone at the front desk, so nobody picks up the phone and there is no voicemail; the person who usually answers emails has apparently been on vacation for the past few weeks without any backup, so it’s been impossible to schedule anything. A couple of months ago I noticed that I had accidentally not paid for my lessons for several months (!). I paid them back based on my own accounting, but it’s pretty clear they are not keeping track.
I don’t normally write a review for a place from which I didn’t buy anything, but the front desk blond lady was exceptionally rude when I stopped in. Jokes on me for trying to browse a local music shop to get something for my trumpet? I guess I’ll take her advice and “just get it online”. Yeesh.
What an absolutely horrible experience. I came in with the intention of renting a bass guitar and inquiring about lessons. I reached out by phone to get details and was messaged by text. I replied about my interest and got a lame short answer on price. I waited for the advertised store hours and made the 45min drive. I stepped inside and there was no assistance. While I was waiting some short stubby pregnant woman came prancing in. It appeared to me that she was a parent to one of the kids. I decided to step out for a quick walk on the street because I attended the junior high around the corner and also sold newspapers on this street after school. This was a huge throwback for me.
I returned 20min later to find this stubby angry pregnant woman was an employee or something else, maybe store manager. I really do not care which or her role. Her demeanor to me was so freaking rude and un inviting. I sat down to wait for her to finish with a child lesson. Then she spoke to me in such a demeaning manner about doing business by appointment. I told her that it would have been nice if she had told me that with the text. Her smug remark was that i should have told her that I would be going in today. Isn’t that the lamest response ever?
What a despicable and ugly person she is when I’m trying to give her my business. I was really looking forward to the opportunity to start music lessons at 50yrs old. And this is the experience I get for trying to give to a small business in my old neighborhood? Jesus. I rechecked their website and found no mention about by appointment only. This place, her in particular, absolutely sucks. I hope they go out of business soon enough or get bought by a respectable owner.
If you want respectable music lessons and service check out Manor Music in Pacifica. Plenty of parking. They are awesome. It’s just that they don’t rent music equipment otherwise I’d be there without a second thought. I had my son take drum lessons with them. That’s how I know.
18. The Music Store
Address: 66 W Portal Ave, San Francisco, CA 94127 , South San Francisco , California , United States
Wonderful music and video store (CDs, vinyl, VHS) with a friendly owner.
These places are like Alice Cooper’s baby teeth these days — nearly impossible to find. You need personal service from a dude behind the counter who knows vinyl, and has the time to talk? You want to buy some good stuff, browse, support the local business, and surprise yourself? Get connected to the local music scene, discover the practice studios in back, find the cut-rate stuff at the top? The Music Store is your place.
Very knowledgeable guys in the guitar room, they knew exactly what I wanted, even though I didn’t.
Comfortable enough to stay and dig forever!
As a teenager, I use to hang out at the local Tower Records, digging through records to find something to add to my collection. This place allows you to look and hopefully find that old album to add to your collection. They have both old and use CD’s and albums. The key is taking the time to looking through everything they have.
Why, but why don’t you post online you are closed for a week???
19. Walgreens
Address: 399 El Camino Real, South San Francisco, CA 94080 , South San Francisco , California , United States
Its a very nice place to makes some quickly purchase..
Prompt service at the pharmacy and front cashier. Both associates were kind and helpful!
Walgreens has everything you need nice friendly workers that will help you find what you are looking for
Aradığım ürünleri buldum ve kasada fazla beklemedim.
On two occasions during my most recent visit a customer (two different ones) asked me to move aside to make room for them to get by or to reach an item I was blocking because they were in a hurry and didn’t want to wait. While I couldn’t blame them I felt uncomfortable about being bothered. They weren’t being rude. I was feeling sensitive. The wearing of a mask may have contributed. I’m usually away from people and shopping less. I’m not currently working.
I baught a sliced mango for $5.6
but it was not fresh and I couldn’t eat a piece.
I always go to that Walgreen’s but two weeks ago a white lady was working as a cashier who had terrible attitude and when I give her the items that I was going to buy she threw the items and they fell to the floor.
Very long lines at the pharmacy pickup. Terribly slow service.
20. B Street Music & Recording
Address: 1745 Adrian Rd #8, Burlingame, CA 94010 , South San Francisco , California , United States
No gloss, no lipstick, no glitter – just music stuff and music people. A throwback treasure that I feel blessed to have nearby.
We rented a violin for 2nd-4th grade lessons and they were exceptional. Best rates and warm customer service. Very professional, thorough and caring. They have moved but still the same great team, we will use them again.
I have a very pleasant experience with this local shop while buying a digital Yamaha piano. Gary is very knowledgeable, and he treats you well. The offer he gave me was significantly lower than any other authorized dealer in the market, (both online and local). Sorry to hear that they had to downsize their shop, but they will be my to-go stop for any future musical instrument needs.
Friendly and they know their stuff.
tiny tiny shop. sad to see they downsized and the people renting musical instruments etc. has declined over the years.
