I love these guys they will get you anything you need ….unbelivable customer service!
Super cool store, family run, personal experience, would definitely recommend for all music enthusiast alike.
Excellent one stop shop for all your guitar needs. Scored an awesome gig bag at a reasonable price as well as a decent starter Austin amp. Stan the Man was more than helpful and went above and beyond to take care of my purchases as well as answer my questions. It’s customer service attitude makes you feel at home. A very under appreciated local music establishment that makes you want to come back the next time around which I will be doing.

Address: 212 W Main St, Staunton, IL 62088 , Staunton , Illinois , United States
Best experience I have ever had working with an out of state retailer. I ordered a fiddle from the website, and Chris, even though she was traveling, saw the order and contacted me right away to let me know it had just been sold and she hadn’t been able to update the site. She worked with me to quickly find a comparable replacement, and I was more than pleased with both the communication and the attention to detail in preparing my instrument. I will recommend The Bluegrass Shack to any aspiring musicians I encounter. If you need an instrument with both character and many years of playing left, this is the place to go.
A little out of the way, but they have excellent teachers, and a wide selection of instruments to buy or learn.
Excellent service & teachers
Such a cool shop with great customer service
The store part is fantastic but when I took lessons, they gave me two lessons and then just stopped talking to me. They wouldn’t return my texts. I went in there and they told me they were full and took my name and number. It’s been a year later and still no availability. I will no longer do business with them.
4. Halpin Music Company
Address: 139 S Locust St, Centralia, IL 62801 , Staunton , Illinois , United States
As our son has continued to try multiple instruments, these guys have always been so helpful and understanding and when he finally decided on the drums, they allowed me to put a portion of the rental fees I had paid on one instrument toward the purchase of a new drum set! I was so grateful! Thanks, guys! He’s rockin’
So nice to work with local people, who understand the needs and can help get you exactly what you are looking for!!!
The best place to go for anything music related. They have an amazing staff and can pretty much fix anything. You will leave with your equipment repaired and looking and running brand new. Also great for accessories as well.
Average music store
The website says its open till 5 on Saturday not 3
Good prices
I had to have my horn sent to Alton because this tech in Centralia is discriminatory against people with disabilities. Had to drive two and a half hours 200 plus miles and no discount for a simple repair I will never use them again thinking about taking legal action.
Good stuff just could be better with details and price
5. Perks Music
Address: 502 E 13th St, Centralia, IL 62801 , Staunton , Illinois , United States
Good place to get anything to do with music nice people!!!
These guys are our go to for all things musical!
Best music shop in Springfield
Meh
Friendly,has most anything
Pretty good inventory from starter instruments to grand pianos. Laid back atmosphere.
The guest experience was alright, but after going in, and returning my item the staff took my return and assured me it was completed, I left and enjoyed the day, more than a week later and I have discovered the staff I talked to must have processed my return improperly since I have never received my refund on my bank statement and when I tried to call in to get the situation corrected I was told they could not find my transaction. Edit… The owner has personally reached out to me and has worked to correct the situation.
went to get my guitar set up and it came back out of tune, disappointed to say the least, reading other reviews it appears the staff might need more technical experience or organization
Took in a brand new bass to get a pickup replaced. Not a scratch on it, never played once. The supposedly simple pickup replacement took a week and a half only for them to give me back my new bass with the back of it covered in scratches and a huge glob of dried glue stuck to the fretboard that won’t come off. They absolutely wrecked my new bass before I even had a chance to play it. Worst possible experience. I am sick to my stomach about how poorly they treated my equipment and would recommend avoiding this place at all costs.
I hate doing this because I want to like music stores but if service is gonna be like this, everyone myswell DIY at home and heed this warning. I’ve had a few guitars setup there which is what I’m always needing done, new guitars etc, well I happen to be changing the strings on my Chapman that I had setup there and the low E saddle of the Floyd Rose came loose and the saddle screw fell out and that’s strange as you tighten them down. Well here’s what I discovered. Either dude lost the original saddle screw or he broke it somehow, but sitting in place of the original saddle screw is a too small saddle screw from a different bridge! It had been set in there and the string was tightened until it held the saddle in place! Like magic no screwing required! This guaranteed that as soon as the string tension came loose the saddle and screw would come loose every time NOT like it’s supposed to. Soooo sad service especially since luckily here at home I have many of those saddle screws laying around. It would have been better service to call me/order the correct part than to wait for me to get home figure out that I have the wrong part and have to deal with it myself. Smh.
7. Chesnut Family Music
Address: 110 S Front St, Effingham, IL 62401 , Staunton , Illinois , United States
This is the place for everything instruments! I’m minutes from a Music Shoppe and made the drive over an hour to go to Chesnut Family Music.
I brought my daughter’s saxophone in for a “mysterious” repair issue and Jordan had it figured out instantly! Their team is knowledgeable and friendly… well worth the drive! Trust me, this is the place!
Fantastic customer service! I purchased my first guitar from them
Awsome place to get your insterments at no matter what you play.
They didn’t have what I wanted.
In my experience this place is great for repairs on amps and stringed instruments. However, I wouldn’t bring a valuable wind instrument to this store. They worked on my pro euphonium once and I was glad it was a simple repair. I’ll never let Jordon touch it again. I’ve also seen some questionable repairs on a friend’s saxophone. Jordon is very good with stringed instruments and amps but I’m not sure he knows about wind instruments beyond basic repairs. To my knowledge, the store does not employ a instrument repair technician with formal education. Nothing against the guy, but he should probably stick to the stringed instruments. It’s a great store, just something to keep in mind. I shop here, just don’t bring my wind instruments
Great little family shop very friendly and helpful
I brought a saxophone in to have cork replaced on the neck. The job was mediocre at best. I redid it myself
I like Jordon but hes always to busy to get to my stuff needs to hire help
8. Mike’s Music
Address: 816 E Main St A, Carbondale, IL 62901 , Staunton , Illinois , United States
If you’re a musician Mike’s Music is your one-stop-shop. A great variety and selection, amazing prices, professional and friendly. Mike’s also has the best luthier in the tri-state area with fair prices and incredible quality of work. This is the only place I take my vintage and rare instruments for any advanced repairs I’d rather not take a chance doing myself.
For over five years I have driven from my home in Cape Girardeau to Carbondale specifically for the experience I get from Mike’s Music. My only wish is that they had a second location here in town.
Best music store in Carbondale!
Super cool local shop!
Nice guy.
Some vintage gear and some brands I’ve never seen before. Mike was very friendly. If you’re visiting Carbondale and need a quick fix, swing on by. Easy to find on main drag.

9. Pink Elephant Antique Mall
Address: 908 Veterans Memorial Dr, Livingston, IL 62058 , Staunton , Illinois , United States
It’s absolutely amazing! The twistie treat Cafe inside was very good as well! They have all kinds of antique booths main floor, upstairs and downstairs. They also have a candy store with shirts and other goodies inside!! Go check it out!!
Cool place, much to see, friendly folks and good food in the little diner
Definitely enjoyed stopping here it’s been years since we have found so many trinkets and have to say the food and dessert in the little diner was absolutely delicious and don’t regret stopping
A unique collection of items from your parents house that you want to sell.
Great spot to eat and explore..
Cool place.
Took so long to get 2 shakes my ice cream cone was almost gone. Two shakes were missing 2 of the four ingredients, went back to window.. (teenager who took my orders 15 minutes ago on slow night tries to take my order again) ask if Mgr was available. …uh…blank stare….”ok…who should I complain too”…..blank stare…”nevermind” I don’t even know what to say. Would give zero stars….not sure how! You would think since a small business customer service would matter, NOPE!!!!!
This place is an extreme disappointment.
I had not set foot in it since prior to covid, so it had been a good two years since my last visit. I’d been making a stop here and there on various road trips, but stopped since nothing in the store ever changed. After two years, I can say that it’s only gotten worse. This place is dirty, dusty, grimey, and instead of fixing it up, the people working there just sit around talking to each other. Booths have the same things in them with ridiculous high prices that they had years ago. Booths are so packed with items that are basically trash that you can barely move in them. Things have cobwebs on them. This place is a nightmare. It looks like it’ll be a fun stop on the outside, but don’t waste your time.
Update, 11 months later:
My mother and I decided to stop in to give this place another chance. The previous review still stands. People working barely acknowledge customers and are so busy sitting around chatting with each other that they seem super put out when you ask for help. A giant layer of dust on at least 75% of the store. Same pieces as 5+ years ago in some booths with the same way-too-high prices as years ago on them. We gave up early since we were both suffering some kind of allergic reaction from the shop (likely the unreal level of uncleanness) and thought we’d grab an ice cream cone before leaving. We sat at the bar to order, watched the only woman working there sneeze and cough into her hands, wipe her nose with the side of one hand, and give the customers at the walk-up their food without cleaning her hands or even grabbing a tissue. We left pretty fast after that. This store has so much potential but it’s just disgusting and overpriced, and apparently that’s how it’s going to stay. I don’t have it has such a good rating on here unless employees are asking friends for reviews or people stopping in have extremely low standards.
1ST. Time Stand in Line and they ran out of ICE CREAM .
2nd Time stand in line and the come and say SORRY we are closed after the guy in front of you after we were there for 1/2 hour WTH !!!!
10. The Chirping Frog Antique Mall
Address: 7479 State Rte 4, Worden, IL 62097 , Staunton , Illinois , United States
Was shown a reasonable older guitar I was looking for and it was matclear that it was as good as I thought
Always a great experience! Top class customer service.
Best store in town!!!
Really nice people, just very overpriced
Very friendly and helpful. Nice to still have a brick and mortar music store in the area.
Best place ever to me
They sold me a violin for 2,000 and when I had it appraised the specialist said they cost $100 for a set of three. I will never do business with them again and I urge anyone to go elsewhere
