Always had a good experience here. New name, same place. Rent or buy instruments here. Grab a reed or some strings.
Love this place for all my music needs. Staff knowledgeable and friendly
Large selection of musical instruments and the staff don’t mind us trying it out. Good service and selection.
Very helpful and nice place
I’ve not had a problem at Music Mikes…grandson got a set of drums and they went over the whole lesson plan for someone who has never played drums in the past and even asked me to step back by the lesson area where lessons were being performed so that I could watch one on one before making a decision.
Rude employees bad place to spend your money.
They used to be a good guitar store …they just have guitars with little amendings available . Out of stock mostly . New ownership made changes. So i go to giitar center or sam ash now
I do NOT recommend this place. I had a repair they said $50-60 and they charged me $100!They tell you one price and charge you way more! They are rude and unprofessional. I will never go back.
2. JKEAA Music Services
Address: 19069 Van Buren Boulevard # 113, Riverside, CA 92508 , Sunnyslope , California , United States
Great service here got my instrument and it works really good
Very good service! Thanks Martie and Andy
the employees who work here have a great attitude and will help you with whatever you need the prices aren’t to high and they have good quality for their products. this is the only place i go to, to get any thing i need for my guitar such as picks and straps. I highly recommend shopping here!
Update: We had a recent issue with being given much higher pricing on an instrument we rented than initially quoted. However, the manager got involved and, while the price we paid wasn’t what we were initially told when we first rented it, the final price that we ended up paying for the instrument was fair. It’s a good store. There just needs to be more consistency among the staff so that customers feel that they can trust what they are told.
Things have changed at the music repair shop within the last year. It’s all about money and not customer service and satisfaction. On top of that I had a conn 6m alto saxophone that I took to them over two years trying to get fixed correctly and after shelling out over $500 I repair costs I finally took it somewhere else who guaranteed to get it fixed right and said they never fixed the problem.
3. Sam Ash Music Stores
Address: 4449 Mills Cir, Ontario, CA 91764 , Sunnyslope , California , United States
I could spend days and paychecks at this store. So much to seeeeee
Great place.. fun to walk around.. great prices.. bought a keyboard.
Very nice smiling people there. Have to buy 2 pickups. One left in a store and the guy called another one to hold the last one for me.
Check it out
Good selection of guitars and all the time you need to play and decide. Some members of the staff seemed to be killing time rather than engaging with customers.
Instruments are expensive, you might be able to find what your looking for at your desired price or closer to it here.
Sales associate rushed me into a sale, they had the wrong price card on instrument that I was about to purchase. He tried closing sale as quickly as possible before I asked about the prices. The couple of times I’ve been here I did not like customer service.
The guy at the door was friendly and when I asked if they carried straps for ukulele he said yes, just ask the other employee standing near that section to show you where. When I went to ask the other guy he said no, they don’t make straps for ukulele. Lying, lazy bastard didn’t want to take the time to help me, so now I spend my money elsewhere.
Always sucks.
4. C J’s Music
Address: 23898 Sunnymead Boulevard, Moreno Valley, CA 92553 , Sunnyslope , California , United States
Great customer service. Very verse in all instruments.
Took an amp to get repaired, they fixed it in a couple works great.
Great customer service. Joe is knowledgeable and honest. Great repair services. Reasonable prices.
Good service.
He has a great selection of brass equipment and is very helpful with any questions.
Any instrument you could ever want at reasonable prices nice elderly gentleman with a lot of knowledge help you and guide you
The guy there was rude and pushy, he had multiple customers willing to buy from him but he had an attitude when he wasn’t able deal with all of them at once. They should hire more people to help around and expand the store. It’s cramped and dangerous to walk around because you could walk into drum sets and you’d have to pay for the expenses if you break it. Overall, needs to get a bigger space and hire more people.
They weren’t able to help me.
15 years ago, I took my mom’s guitar here to be tuned for my guitar class. The owner stole the ivory tuning keys from the guitar and replaced them with white plastic tuning keys without asking me. When I came back to pay, he made it seem that he had upgraded my guitar for free. I went home and my mom broke into tears. I hadn’t realized that I had been ripped off. We returned, and asked for them back. With a smirk on his face, he told my father and me that he had thrown them out and that there was no way to get them back. It was obvious that he was lying. He ripped off a child, and that always plays back in my mind.
5. Guitar Center
Address: 2550 Canyon Springs Pkwy A, Riverside, CA 92507 , Sunnyslope , California , United States
Steve did a great job setting up my bass guitar (Sire V7) and repairing the electronics. He was knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Very grateful and I recommend highly.
Best of all it was a same day service and Rene (I hope that’s the right name) gave us water while my wife and I waited for Steve to finish up.
I like guitars
Fun to just go there
Nice acoustic room helpful friendly staff and larger then most
It’s good!
Love that it’s closer,Nick and Johnny helped with Gretsch drum issues and new Cymbals.
Shame on you
As much as I would like to see this store succeed, I have to say my experiences here has not been great to say the least. Recently I purchased some powered speakers (to use with my Helix) and a 10” powered monitor to use at church. I was told by the salesman I had 45 days to return them if it didn’t work out (in front of my friend who was with me). The monitor was too big for church and I am having an ongoing problem with my Helix (dealing with Line 6 ) As a result, i haven’t been able to use the powered speakers. I brought back the items for return and they said no (manager was rude and did not have any customer service skills).I had been lied to by the salesman who sold me the equipment! After heated words, loud enough for other customers to hear, I got a refund for the speakers but still refused to take the monitor back. Bottom line, I was not treated well, staff is not trained properly and there is generally a “”we just don’t care attitude””
My brother in law was in this store May 18, and was wanting to purchase the Cordova Classico. He told the the sales associate, David , wrap that guitar up he wanted it. David proceeds to talk with others and ignored him. Needless to say he left without the guitar and will not return to that store again!
6. Corona Music Center
Address: 1275 Magnolia Ave #103, Corona, CA 92879 , Sunnyslope , California , United States
Very friendly and helpful staff. I will be back with my guitar.
My son’s guitar had a broken string – brought it in to Corona Music Center (with a set of strings) and Kyle was so kind to replace the broken string & tune the guitar, no charge. He also gave us a couple of things to watch out for with the guitar, things that will start to diminish with regular use (we’re using a basic beginner’s guitar). The store is clean, has nicely displayed instruments, and has been open since 1999. My son & I are glad we have a quality Corona-based music store to cover all our music needs! Thank you again, Kyle!
I like the one on one teaching. It is focused and we get 30 minutes of pure learning.
They were very helpfull
I rent a new flute shown as model Stagg ws-fl231, and the price is $452.55. They told me the rent cost could be counted as deduction when I buy it later. Six month later, the spring on the flute is loosed. They change a used Jupiter shown model JEL 700 to me and stated its price was $500. Three month later, the same issue came again. Since I have rented for nine months, I asked what the balance would be if I buy the used one. They told me the balance will be about $470, and the price for the used Jupiter Jel 700 is about $800. I doubted whether the used one is worth the price. They told me the price of a new one is about $1900. On the next day, I found the contract, and it showed the price of the used one was $500. So they were making up a price or number to overstated the worth of the flute. If I didn’t keep the contract, I would have been cheated by them. When they were lying to me, they spoke it out so naturally that I have to conclude that they must have lied for many years. If you search the price of the Stagg ws-fl231 on Amazon, you will find its price is $199 for new one. The price of Jupiter JFL-700 student on eBay is only $485, and it is a new one. After the deduction, which I have paid $330 as lease payment in recent nine months, I still have to pay an additional $170, then it is considered as pay off. In this way, I paid total $500 to rent and then buy an used flute. It truly doesn’t deserve it. I suggest everyone to check the price of the same model on Amazon or eBay before you lease or buy it. In addition, there is no any terms of the lease payment for deduction listed in the contract, so it is just oral promise and not protected by the contract. Never trust their lies.
Bought a drum set with all the hardware (cymbal stands and throne), but never received the throne when I picked it up. Also bought a Zildjian ZHT cymbal pack (crash, china, ride, hi hat) at the same time, and to this day (four months) I have not received the crash cymbal. I have called numerous times, and they always tell me that a shipment is coming and I will get a call when they get it, but I don’t think it takes four months for a shipment to arrive. Also, their selection of drum sticks is practically nil.
Don’t show up without calling first. If you try to sample an instrument they will ask if you are there for a lesson. If you say no, they will ask you to immediately leave.
To reply to the poster, I did give you a chance to respond, you asked why and I said to play, you did not clarify the pianos were not for sale and that that was a lesson room. You immediately turned your attention back to the guitar lessons you felt I was rudely interrupting. Please do not tell me I don’t know how to interpret body language or communication when you shut it down first. The review stands. A google local guide. Sorry you were rude to the wrong person.
7. Styles Music
Address: 777 E Foothill Blvd, Pomona, CA 91767 , Sunnyslope , California , United States
An Inland Empire staple. One of the best family owned and one of the last really..The guys here are incredibly friendly, knowledgable and really know how to treat a customer. Support independent music stores and head over to Styles, if they don’t have it in stock , they can order it and have it to you in no time at all. they carry top name brands and have been a great place to go for gear for over 20 years. Love this place!
These guys are friendly, knowledgeable and willing to help. I’ll never go to that big box store (you know the one) again.
I did not personally go to this shop but I did call one of the workers there and asked him a question. He did something I never believed would happen and he gave me an honest answer. Instead of being like the other stores, he told me that it was not worth it to repair a guitar pedal because it would amount to the same price as just getting a new one. That is a 100% honest answer and you do NOT get those from any store nowadays. He was very kind, helpful, and honest. If i lived closer to this store, I’d go there for EVERY guitar question/transaction I ever have! Try this store out. I never leave reviews but this store impressed me. Thanks Styles!
Walked in to find some ukulele books to learn and to play some music. They were a litter hard to find but I’m glad with my purchase. There isn’t a huge selection but there are some starter books so I’m ok with that!
Took my guitar to get adjusted and have new strings added. Get my guitar back with a string that was put on in such a way that i cant even use the string -.- string isnt even able to make anyguitar sound-___- as shown on picture ,third string was put in with no care );
both guys are great people,I have bought guitars, strings, accessories and also they have worked on my guitars.A-1 service all the time .I would recommend them
Really unprofessional to me as there customer. Sold me a used amp that was broken.
Check your used gear before you sell it!
Told me they would fix it, free of charge and possibly throw in some gas money! The amp would be done in about 4 days. Awesome!
3 weeks later! Excuse after excuse, they than surprised me with 60$ Charge when i went to go pickup the amp. Not ok!
If the amp was completed in original time frame, i wouldnt have cared about the 60$ charge.
Styles music you still have the ability to correct this, i hope you reach out to me.
The guitar tech here is totally incompetent. I have a tech that does amazing setups elsewhere but he has been away due to medical leave. I had brought in an instrument to be fret leveled and the guy here was using the fret rocker completely wrong with the strings on. He told me he couldn’t do anything and that I should wait for my miracle guitar tech. I’m glad I did not do business with these jokes.
Bought a vintage guitar from this store that ended up having buzzing issues. Not thinking much of it I had a few techs look at it, all three techs stated and even showed me how bad the neck was warped, a long term issue from improper care. In hopes of returning a bit after their return policy since the issue had been there to begin with, they held their return policy ground, said their guitar tech looked at it with no problems, and even had the audacity to tell me that I not only needed a second opinion, but that the situation was nothing but buyer’s remorse! As if I don’t buy and sell guitars for a living. Seeing another review here about bad tech experiences here..I would normally say this tech needs to stick to basic restrings only, but apparently can’t even do that either. I wrote a very understanding and forgiving email about the issue and even offered an exchange for a different vintage guitar they had, trying my best to give this place a second chance..and not only outright refused me but added insult to injury claiming the neck warp was nonexistent. Thankfully I was able to sell the pickups for more than half what I paid, and plan on using the body for a custom project. One of the worst customer experiences I’ve ever had the pleasure dealing with. Completely insulting. I, nor anyone I know will buy from this store again.
8. Rockside Music | Riverside
Address: 11498 Pierce St Ste #E, Riverside, CA 92505 , Sunnyslope , California , United States
Kriss did an awesome job with my guitar. I had some issues with the way it was set up and he went above and beyond to make my guitar sound as good as it possibly can. I highly recommend.
Thank you Kriss for an amazing set up for my guitar! Kriss was very professional and unintimidating to ask questions to. I got my guitar back way quicker than other service providers, which was cool too 🙂
So I met these guys by guitar-divine coincidence. I was buying pedals, and Kris sold me one of his. As he was selling his pedal to me, he explained that he and his friend (Alan) had this company where they fixed up guitars and such. When I finally brought my Strat to have them do a set up, they did amazingly! You could hear the differences already. I ordered and got new pick ups for my bridge and they got that all set up so well (picture of the Strat after pick up installation). Kris is very professional and friendly. The prices are extremely reasonable. Alan knows his guitars and literally told me he treats them as if they were his own. I ended up telling my friend who wanted his Jackson set up and fixed with new Floyd Rose bridge. They did it in short time and my friend also loved their work. (Pictures of Jackson posted below) Modified Sounds is a solid business and your instrument is in the right and experienced hands with these gentlemen.
10. GMP Guitars
Address: 535 W Allen Ave, San Dimas, CA 91773 , Sunnyslope , California , United States
The owner Dan is the best!! Super talented and makes the best quality guitars. Try them out you won’t be disappointed.
GMP Guitars RULE. I picked up my special order Fire Bird and was so impressed I sold my Les Paul and I’m getting ready to order another GMP. After playing this guitar, everything I touch feels like a cheap fender knock off. QUALITY and Great Customer Support. Looks like all the big names are moving over to GMP as well. Want a REAL GUITAR ??? GMP is where it’s at 🙂 RnFnR
When I walk in…I feel like family. So friendly and knowledgeable. Plus, Dan is the finest guitar painter in the U.S. I custom ordered a guitar so I’ll get exactly what I want. This’ll be my second GMP. My first is an amazing guitar. Very excited to get number 2.
These people are scammers I would not do business wit these low life people!!!!!!!!!don’t waste your money!.
11. J. Brown Violin Maker
Address: 232 N Indian Hill Blvd, Claremont, CA 91711 , Sunnyslope , California , United States
Great place to buy. They take the time to show and explain the instruments. Would recommend this place.
Great shop. Helpful, reasonable, go out of their way to make sure everything is just right.
Best service in the area!
The owner, Mr. Brown is quite calm and very straight forward handling subject. But, it’s not bad. He seems very reasonable and has huge experienced skill of instruments. His wife used to dealing with customer, she is so friendly and very informative, sweet lady.
I hope they have been keep operating as a good local instrument expert.
When we came on Saturday, it was closed and the web said it was
12. Morey’s Music Store Inc
Address: 4834 Woodruff Ave #576, Lakewood, CA 90713 , Sunnyslope , California , United States
Great place. They helped me get my first Violin, will most definitely come back for future needs.
I was in and out quickly. The staff was friendly and very helpful.
I don’t know much about this place because I just visited it once while I was in town for a meeting. What I saw was very impressive. While fairly small in size, it contains an extensive selection of (mostly) orchestral instruments. There are separate showrooms for each group of instruments and it appears that they encourage serious customers to audition the pieces in a calm setting. The back of the store contains a large repair shop that is glassed in so that you can observe the technicians. Normally, I do not include this sort of thing in my reviews, but I must make an exception by mentioning that one of the sales personnel is a tall, absolutely gorgeous young woman with long light brown hair and sparkling eyes. She is simply too beautiful to avoid taking note. By the way, they did not have the accessory I was looking for, but they made a good recommendation to another store. If you are looking for a personal shopping experience, this family-owned shop is highly recommended.
Looks like a lot of changes in the store. For Good.
Nice friendly store
Not knowledgeable about guitars!! They use to be great.
They didn’t everything wrong. Intonation was wrong and set up was inferior. They put the right strings on which is basically all that was right. Took longer than they promised and didn’t bother letting me know it was done.
I will never shop there again. This morning 12/26/18, I went to the store hoping to buy a new cello case. I entered the store and walked to the back of the store to look around. Not one worker even tried to assist me. After looking at the cello cases, I walked toward the front of the store to look at different violin/cello method books because I play and teach both instruments. During that time, a few customers walked in and the workers quickly greeted and assisted them. This is about the third time this has happened to me. I will never shop there or refer any of my students to shop there. I will just have to purchase their supplies elsewhere and have my students purchase the products from me. I will also go online and purchase my cello case elsewhere. That’s too bad because they really do ha e nice, quality products.
13. Gilmore Music Store
Address: 1935 E 7th St, Long Beach, CA 90813 , Sunnyslope , California , United States
Very helpful picking out a guitar for a young child. Replace the strings to make sure they were in top shape and have us a one year warranty. If you’re in the market for an instrument the quality here is very good (and when you order online you just don’t know what you’re going to get)
The sales team are very helpful!
for over a decade, Gilmore has been my go to music store; a convenient, no hassle, family owned business. located on the east side, Gilmore is the only music store that caters to all musicians, not just guitarists. for guitar strings and parts, Gilmore is always my first choice.
Good old long time local shop
They kickmy kid out after 10 minutes cuz he was white and from out of town. Sorry they did
I am currently attending music lessons here which is cool, however, the staff are friendly but they can be a little socially awkward at times. They have a few well known brands and great prices on instruments.
Went back twice to check if it was open and doors were locked hour after opening
A little background on me: I am a Long Beach musician and am someone who has always made a conscious effort to patron small businesses in my community instead of buying from major (or online) retailers whenever I can. I do yoga on the bluff, buy my juices at Salud, my produce at the farmers market, and my guitar strings at Gilmore . I love this city and think it important to support the local vendors that add to it.
I had a show March 7th and found that the Yamaha keyboard I have performed with for the past 8 years had finally given up on me. I rushed into Gilmore to buy one to play that night, tried a few they had on the floor, and after deciding on one, they brought out an unboxed keyboard from the back (I thought nothing of it since I was going to be playing the instrument immediately anyway), rung me up, and $300 later I was out the door with my shiny “new” Yamaha.
Barely 2 months and only 7 shows later (I was overseas most of April and did not take it with me), I bring the keyboard to a festival last night only to find that it would not power on. The musical director and entire sound team scrambled to try and help me for about 20 minutes to get it to work, but nada. The keyboard was inoperable, and I was unable to play the show.
**Hoping to find a solution, I brought the keyboard and my purchase receipt to Gilmore today at 2:45 and explained to the attendant that I had bought the board here two months ago and that it had failed to power on at a performance yesterday. He immediately got defensive and told me that 2 months was too long for him to be sure that I didn’t purposely mistreat the keyboard. He also told me that the keyboard was purchased used (Used????) and when I responded that I was unaware I had purchased a used keyboard, he said, “Yeah, right, I know someone told you. You said you purchased it out of the box, right? Well, there you go. We’re not going to give you a refund, this is not going to be resolved today, and if there need to be repairs made on the keyboard we’re not going to cover the cost for you. We’re also not going to give you store credit for this. You can’t make it seem like the fact that your keyboard not working is somehow our fault. You can call our repair technician and if he says he can fix the keyboard you can pay for it yourself.”
Whoa.
The saddest part about it is—– I hadn’t asked for any of those things. As a customer returning to a place of purchase, I was hoping to be presented with possible solutions, yes, but to be yelled at, disrespected, and publicly chastised in the most hostile manner (the customers who were behind me in line walked away out of discomfort) was not only unprofessional and uncalled-for, but embarrassing; not just for myself for being subject to it but for the reputation of this company.
Needless to say, I will not be back and I will also regretfully be cancelling the voice lessons that I had booked here.
Do yourself a favor and only come if you know exactly what you want and plan to be out quickly. If you may require customer service, I recommend you look somewhere else.
As the employee who screamed at me refused to share his name, I am sharing his photo.
Literally been three times. This place is never open. Ive called. Ive rang the doorbell. Ive banged on the glass door. Nothing. Spend your money somewhere that wont waste your time. 0/10
