lived the place very friendly owner and very good prices
Great Customer service, as well as prices
Staff is very knowledgeable
, friendly and professional. They truly care about those who love music. I truly recommend them for everything from simple questions to product information & repairs.
Not much for percussionist
Nice people until you try and return a guitar.
Okay, but the respect for a musicians picky choices should lighten up. And not verbally told your being a wiener. If brand is important to the individual let it be. It’s his instrument and his audience.
Just stopped at the store for the first time. The hours of operation are not posted on the outside. I walk in there’s 2 ladies and a guy the one lady says how can I help you, I said I’m just looking around. The guy says you better look fast we are closing soon we close at 5:30pm. It’s about 5:25pm. He then says feel free to look tho. I guess I should have said I’m interested in a acoustic guitar. But anyways I just walked through real fast and left. Even if I was looking today doesn’t mean I wouldn’t have bought something in the future. Not going back there. Note to store post your hours on the outside and turn off your open sign if you don’t want a customer to come in!!
They never have nothing restocked, I come back a month later and still nothing. They never have things I want, even the more common one. it’s just a bad store for me.
This is the second time in with an instrument to trade and have been shot down before I even showed the man , I called the night before about it, I wasted my lunch brake and left a little upset like I was wasting his time.
2. Music Go Round
Address: 944 W Robinhood Dr, Stockton, CA 95207 , Thornton , California , United States
Decent selection of drums, guitars, accessories, with very fair prices and helpful service. I’ll be visiting here first before the usual chain outlets, much better value.
Bought a drum set w/extras. Was worried I wasn’t going to be able to afford it all. Giovanie helped me big time and hooked me up. I didnt have to spend an arm & leg. Thanks Giovanie & Music-go-Round for the continued support in making family members happy
The staff was really nice and helped me pick my first guitar last year on my birthday and I plan on getting another some times this year to. Definitely will come back here again
The gentlemen that helped us was informative and kind.
Great service
Online order
Ordered a Jackson at a great price, used. Shipping took a little while (about a week and a half, I guess I’m just used to crazy fast shipping speeds like amazon. Felt like a lifetime. I’m in NY so it’s completely understandable )
Guitar looks great. There are some very very slight nicks and dings (as to be expected with a used guitar, however it would be nice to have the imperfections highlighted in a picture or two). Guitar is full functional and has no mechanical problems; however it did not come with the whammy bar. Not a big deal at all, they are only a few dollars. It would have been nice to have that listed in the description though so I could have had one ordered before the guitar got here. Again, not a big deal at all.
Overall very happy with the guitar and will be ordering more from them in the future. Thanks guys. Wish I was closer and could come check out the rest of your stuff in person!
Sorry won’t be doing anymore business I sold my practically new guitar barely used like really barely only got $30 including carrying case like really. You are still making profit off of it and the bag. I guarantee you will sell it for $80 not including bag.
sort of like the GameStop of music stores ,snobby and off putting attitudes as if you are gonna run out with some merch.
This place is a ripoff. The tubes for my $700 amp cost $130 a set and they offered me $200 for this tsl601 marshall
3. Banning Guitars
Address: 525 S Lee Ave, Lodi, CA 95240 , Thornton , California , United States
I would like to say thank you to Cassandra for the re-string this morning … The Gordon’s family has always been good to me… thanks again
I’ve been going there for over 45 Years …Top Service !!
Great family owned spot. Mr.Gordon essentially changed our lives by allowing our business to coexist with his at the downtown location. We will be here as long as Gordons Music and Sound is!
nice music
The only problem I have with Gordon’s is the prices I paid $23.45 for one oboe reed and to me I think that is very pricey
Tienda muy bonita te dejan probar la mayoría de instrumentos. Tienen bastante variedad por lo que es la zona y buenas ofertas. Guitarras hermosas.
Had our family piano taken to the store to be sold, it was the Sacramento store they have had the piano for over three years now and have not sold it even after reducing the price buy 50% they also took the piano from the Sacramento store without telling me, they decided to close the Sacto store because of poor sales performance in the current economy, then they moved it to their main store in Fairfield without telling me I only found out because I went to the store in Sacramento to ask them how the sale of it was doing and the store was closed up and I had to do some research to find out they had a main store in Fairfield.
Well, unfortunately I have to agree with the majority of the reviewers here. This is not a very good music store to do business with.
Or, more specifically, the salesman/owner Gordon…yikes what a train wreck!
I traveled to Gordon’s music from out-of-town looking for a nice tube-amp for my guitar. I had spoken with a very nice lady on the phone, and she began helping me when I arrived at the store. However, her shift was ending, and she left for the day…
I wish I had left also…
Well, to make a long story short- I tried asking the owner Gordon some questions about purchasing an amplifier, he basically refused to listen to what I wanted to buy, and attempted to force me to purchase the items that he had in stock. When I tried again to tell him that I was not interested in the amplifiers that they were currently stocking, he began a long, grouchy story about how “back in his day” he used to build amps from kits….yawn* And, please sell me what I am asking you for!
Well after 10-15 minutes I could see that I was wasting my time with this person.
And so, after looking around locally, I found a wonderful music store in Benicia called ABC Music…Very Nice people who actually listen to my needs as a customer!
I then purchased a great Vox amp from them, and have been a faithful customer ever since. And my guitar lives happily ever after…:-)
I walked in trying to buy guitar strings Nd immediately felt unwelcomed never had a issue before this but cashier couldn’t even awnser a question bout the strings felt like they thought I was going to steal from them or something know I’ll rather drive out of town for eny musical needs
Very precise work done by Austin. Has a very good talent for what this is. I suggest anybody that wants a personal handcrafted guitars. Definitely look Austin up. Saucy sounds
Austin has excellent guitar, instrument and parts knowledge all around. If your looking for something hand crafted that isn’t something you can just pick up at a music store, go with saucy sounds !
8. Flemmer Piano Services
Address: 1224 Lakewood Dr, Lodi, CA 95240 , Thornton , California , United States
Joey was very professional and educated me on how to care for my piano in the future. He also drove a good distance to help me out and was very friendly and easy to work with!
Flemmer’s Piano Service provides professional superior service at a reasonable price. The motivating factor to this company’s quality service is Joey’s love and passion for pianos. Joey is an excellent pianist and conveys this excellence to the pianos he services.
I highly recommend Flemmer’s Piano Service.
9. Stanroy Music Center
Address: 850 4th St, Santa Rosa, CA 95404 , Thornton , California , United States
I bought my trombone here and they repair it. I’ve been playing for a LONG time.
Very nice and staff
Great place to shop and take private lessons.
All the accessories… Just nothing name brand as far as name brand guitars… Otherwise great music store
Needs more stuff for electric guitars but it wasn’t bad
Great guitar store.
Pour services
Muchos instrumentos musicales hechas en China .
Took my vinyage 70’s modified stratocaster to be flipped from a righty to a lefty and they didnt even flip the nut they just used some glue to raise the strings to make them fit. Seemed like they didnt care about doing a good job or doing the job right just to get it done as fast as possible and collect there money. Dissapointed because i always try to help local business over corporate monsters like bananas but even at bananas i feel like the staff is more attentive. If your a high class snob this might be your perfect fit.
10. Tim’s Music
Address: 6818 Fair Oaks Blvd, Carmichael, CA 95608 , Thornton , California , United States
This is the place to go for all of your musical needs!
Tim’s Music helped me out with the purchase of my new Cannonball Alto Sax 25th Anniversary. I was given the opportunity to try and play as many saxophones as I wanted before choosing this beauty. The staff here know what they are talking about and really care about your satisfaction. This place was amazing! For anyone looking for a sax or any other wind instrument, this is the spot! Thank you, Tim, for making this possible. My Cannonball plays amazing and it just looks amazing!
Excellent customer service. Love the repair department. Felt good walking in there
Great place to get music lessons and a fun engaging staff
Great help
Nice and knowledgeable staff
I have purchase and rented instruments here before. This time, five different staff said they would help, apparently what I wanted was not in stock and instead of letting me know, all left me waiting. After quite a wait we decided to leave. Someone caught us leaving and took our number to call and figure out how we could get ahold of the instrument. That was over 8 weeks ago, my phone never rang. They’ve lost a loyal customer.
This would be zero stars but a plug is warranted for John Doolittle’s sax lessons at the store of which I availed myself a couple of times. Zero stars involves me taking my alto sax there for repair. It’s over 50 years old but has had some restorative work done; fairly significant when I started playing again regularly about three years ago and more minor work several months ago and again following my unpleasant experience at Tim’s, the former by Kline Music and the latter by The Music Store in Rocklin. The guy at Kline is particularly known for his competence. The purported lead expert on reed instrument repairs at Tim’s told me my Selmer Mark VI needed a $1500 complete overhaul and they wouldn’t touch it for any lesser amount of work. The guy in Rocklin then fixed it for $65 and it plays just fine, as it did before it started acting up shortly before I took it to Tim’s. I played in church today and was complemented on my tone by their music director, who is a school music teacher and fellow owner of a Selmer Mark VI. An instrument in need of complete renovation obviously could not produce such a result. I got a different feel from the store than I did when I took lessons from Doolittle at the old location. Maybe they’ve bitten off more than they can chew financially but they’ve certainly lost my business.
11. Skip’s Music – Sacramento
Address: 4614 Madison Ave, Sacramento, CA 95841 , Thornton , California , United States
Went in to get my guitar restrung today and they were very helpful! Helped me pick out strings, then had the guitar ready for pickup in an hour even though they seemed pretty busy.
I love Skips music and the incredible staff! Always willing to help and make sure you have everything you need. You get that home town feel when you walk into Skip’s, where everyone is family!
The Weekend Warrior program is so much fun and a great way to stay connected to other musicians and get to perform with a band but not have the long term commitment to a band (unless that is what you are looking for) many bands have been brought together by this amazing program! Lives are forever changed, come join the family!
These folks are always great. You have to be good with informal, but it’s great because you’re just chatting about instruments with other people who love instruments. You going to Guitar Center? Skip’s is 10 minutes away…go there after before you buy.
Good service
Skip’s is a cool place to chill at. The service is good staff is grate.
Their repair department is a joke. After talking to the guy on the phone and follow up with an email, I took the day off and drove almost 2hrs one way for him to give me attitude and tell me, no. lol
Called and asked about inventory and selection on some dj equipment and was told they have “everything from high end to low end, come on down!”. Got there and they had 2, one low end and one high end, no variety. Seems like they’ll say anything to get you in.
Spent a month trying to get a bridge replaced from these guys. Scott was very friendly when I first called, but he entirely flaked out. I contacted them on Aug 1st and come Aug 27th when I’m trying to find out if they intend to repair my bass I’m told “I only work Mon – Wed. Call me Monday”. Wasted a month of my time.
Wonderful music store with an amazing assortment of instruments and very knowledgeable sales staff. It’s almost a destination in itself, this old-time store, with instruments displayed all over the walls and shelves.
I appreciated their care and concern in helping me sell an instrument some years back.
Bought my daughter a guitar for her bday, the guys there are very cool and great customer service, kudos too Mary Ellen as she’s owned foggy mountain alot of years,I consider a friend, great business
Bought a dulcimer hand made in Arkansas.
Love it
Great guitar lessons. Great deals, they price match guitar center too! My son got a gorgeous electric guitar for Christmas to upgrade from his child-sized Ibanez, and the customer service was great.
Owners are rude
Drove there on Sunday, as Google said they were open. They were not.
Over priced
16. Steve Deutsch Woodwinds
Address: 560 1st St d100, Benicia, CA 94510 , Thornton , California , United States
Steve knows his woodwinds and took excellent care of my dad’s sax. I know very little about saxophones and he took the time to explain things to me and gave me great suggestions and recommendations.
Steve patched up my Bari Sax right before the big gig, he’s fast and fair, I plan to bring him all my horns for servicing

Reviews
I love this place…its kinda hit and misd when its open though..
The store and the people are well worth exploring. Very well-priced, friendly, and a small treasure trove of goodness awaits inside these walls. If you’re someone who loves thrifting, you are certain to find treasures here. Clothes, furniture, books, music, toys, keepsakes galore.
I love this thrift store! They have brand clothes for as low as $1 in great condition/new, house decor and so many cute accessories. I recommend!
18. Gryphon Stringed Instruments
Address: 211 Lambert Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94306 , Thornton , California , United States
Beautiful collection of stringed instruments and great staff.
Que hermosos I strumentos
Good for him defending his employees
I am writing this a while after having my guitar set up here. I have a Schecter Hellraiser C-1 Hybrid. It was my first “high value” guitar (certainly not as high as many others have), but for me it was a very special guitar signifying my advancement in playing. I went with Gryphon for basic setup service and to support a local business. Gryphon strings came with strong recommendations from Schecter, my guitar teacher, and various other friends/family who know the luthiers at Gryphon.
I received the guitar and found it kind of hard to play (compared to my cheaper Squire and some random knockoff guitar, both of which I was more comfortable messing with the truss rod, action etc). Being newer to guitars back then, I accepted the difficulty of play at face value, assuming that it was because I just wasn’t good enough yet to understand or play after the setup. It wasn’t until much, much later (and lots of relatively painful practice sessions) that I learned it was because the action of the Schecter was set extremely high. I have since learned how to do my own guitars; and received confirmation from other luthiers that whoever did my setup at Gryphon set the action too high. Everyone likes their action a bit differently, but it was so high for me I could barely play without pain.
So I want to put this out there, your experience at Gryphon strings varies extremely widely with whoever works on your guitar.
This was extremely frustrating because I was newer to guitars back then and really “didn’t know any better”, trusted the expert team at Gryphon, and was let down. I doubted my ability to keep the guitar and be able to play it to the point where I was considering reselling it when the problem was that it was just not set up properly.
I spent about $300 here including the setup (bought case, bought strings etc. to support local business).
Hermosos instrumentos y con mucha historia, fotografías antiguas y excelente atención por el personal
Gryphon is world class when it comes to their musical instrument repairs and beyond that they have a very good selection for their size.
All that being said I haven’t been in there in years as the last experience I had was unpleasant. I was there to buy an amplifier and although I had been in the shop less than 15min, I checked, I was encouraged to move along. I confronted the clerk that had tried to rush me out and he denied it. After a heated exchange I bought the amplifier apologized for the exchange and left. Over the years I have bought and sold multiple boutique instruments but none of them have been from Gryphon. I’ve thought about going back but even after almost 5 years the sting of being made to feel like a 2nd class citizen is still there.
Nicely done Parkey way to bully an old retired American! Behavior like this would and will never happen in Russia!
Trashy employees
Their employee Parker Mankey is very, very disrespectful.
19. Love’s Travel Stop
Address: 15250 Thornton Rd, Lodi, CA 95242 , Thornton , California , United States
I like this place better than the Flying J across the street because the clerks at FJ are abject morons. I mean, god bless them but everything they do seems to require more brain cells than they have available and takes forever. When the lines are long it’s chaos. Here’s a time saving tip: you can pay for your gas at the cinnabon counter too.
Anyway, Love’s also has an attached Arby’s, and say what you want, but I like Arby’s.
So basically, the gas is cheap, it’s convenient as far as the location (middle of a minor nowhere), able-minded clerks, and late night Arby’s = #winning all around.
I purchased a $40 bottle of vegetable/energy/immune stuff and the young man and young woman working there were so friendly and courteous I couldn’t believe it!
Very clean, Friendly Service with a Smile
Good place to get gas and food.
Parking was great had lots of room for big rig parking. Store was great. Simi clean bathrooms. Only reason they do not get 5 stars is becuase me and my fiance went to take a shower and weren’t even in there 5 minutes and the bathroom cleaning lady come knocking and opening the door after we open it she seen we were in there (plus the shower was running with music playing so she knew before she tried opening the door) then about 5 minutes later she did it again come opening and knocking on our door so we dried off and walked out and she went to complain to the manager that we wouldnt open the door all the way for her!! So we had to cut our shower short so that she would stop coming in ever 5 minutes!! Very unhappy with PRIVATE SHOWER SERVICE!!!!Good place to park for the night but WOULD NOT take a shower here unless u want someone coming in ever 5 minutes!!!!!
Restrooms are so clean and always well stocked with plenty of TP
Manager is not friendly, very rude person!!!
Never never friendly ,the night staff …I stop many time for fuel here but when you go to the cashier they never say you hello or thank you ….just one word they said that “you need receipt “and start starring you ….that’s it …and the day staff realized you that you make a big mistake by stopping here …only few personals greet you …at night no hand soap in the Men’s room …so I start taking fuel from Flying j or try to fuel from Love’s Lost hills CA …so from today I stop taking EXIT485 .
Plenty of parking here. Not a bad place to park. But however I do have an issue with the night staff. They allowed a driver and his dog to come inside the place. And fed the dog right there by the food. This driver was not blind, and it was not a service animal. I wont be stopping here again cause of this. This is getting ridiculous. I do not want fur in my damn food or drink!!! Start enforcing the rules that y’all lay down on everyone.
