I have been a drummer for 28 years and recently took up guitar lessons for my tenth time or so. I have never had an easier instructor to work with than Greg.
I also had my autistic nephew sign up and it has been an amazing turn in his life. Greg taught him a small song his first day, this drive him to love going and socialize. Now my nephew says Greg is the nicest guy he knows and can’t wait for lessons.
Greg is real, he is empathic and extremely polite . He listens to what you want to play and helps push you while keeping at a pace you can achieve. Now I’m taking vocal and guitar lessons and I’ve never had better instruction.
Also his prices are the best I’ve ever seen for professional lessons.
Greg may not have what you need but he can get it. He’s very knowledgable of whatever you need to know and one of the nicest people you’ll ever deal with.
A music shop. In Emmett!
4. Pickers Paradise Weiser
Address: 23 W Idaho St, Weiser, ID 83672 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
Narie and Joseph Young are the proprietors of this full service music store. From lessons to vintage instruments. They have it all. Live music and jam sessions as well.
New owners. Open for shopping and browsing. Genuinely nice and helpful.
Ken is very helpful
Good store. Fair amount of selection, although stock is limited on some instruments. They do take trade-ins.
5. Rick’s Music
Address: 915 W Flamingo Ave, Nampa, ID 83651 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
A lot of cool guitars and analog type gear. I went in because I was looking for a new MIDI controller, and some other odds and ends Having to do with doing work on a DAW. There was nothing for my computer recording. It’s a sick store and the customer service was great.
Rick has done an amazing job on all the guitars I have had him work on. He also is a great place to find used gear.
Great service small shop extremely friendly would definitely recommend to any and all guitar players
I had Rick set up my guitar. He did a Fantastic job. Fast and reliable. One day service. I would Recommend him all who needs guitar service. AAA++++
Rick is a great guy, and there’s always a gem or two hanging on the wall. Good prices, too!
Last Saturday I took my most prized possession to Rick, I paid to have a set up and new strings put on my Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute pro. When I got it home I pulled it out and wanted to play it. I noticed right off the bat that Rick took a Utility knife or some other tool and shaved off the binding all around the fret board The fret board has gouges all the way around and the frets stick out and gouge your fret hand when you try to play it. My guitar is completely ruined! I haven’t slept in several days I’m so pissed. I in no way implied, asked for or mentioned that he do this to my guitar. I can’t even open the case it makes me so sick! I would not recommend Rick to anyone again. Rudy Rodriguez Nampa Idaho
6. Dunkley Music
Address: 513 W Karcher Rd, Nampa, ID 83651 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
I love going in here, mainly for Deborah! She has the store so well-organized, and really knows her stuff. She’s always attentive (but not TOO much) and helpful. She needs to do some training for the employees in their other store!
Best instrument and music shop in the Treasure Valley!!! I had a problem and they fixed it above and beyond what I could of hoped for. I would recommend Dunkley to anyone looking for a new or used instrument.
……Store located JUST EAST OF TARGET….
Best choice for band & orchestra instrument rental….best price, repairs included!
Pianos, Guitars, Lowrey Play-For-Fun classes for seniors.
Always FRIENDLY service. All piano teacher books in stock…. New recital hall in 2015!!!
The Nampa store is part of Idaho’s LARGEST full-service music company.
Would not recommend. Very unwelcome vibes. Zero chill music store vibes lady just wanted us to leave the second we got ther. The lady I dealt with was rude and tried to gouge me for my money.
7. Dorsey Music, Nampa
Address: 1231 Caldwell Blvd, Nampa, ID 83651 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
Staff is so helpful here, rental prices are extremely reasonable
Excellent little music shop. We went to rent a trombone for my middle-schooler, and they were very helpful finding us just the right horn for her skill level in our budget.
Very nice staff
Well stocked store, friendly people .
It’s okay
Dorsey can get you what ever you want in the line of musical instruments and services. Excellent inventory, but seemed a bit pricey.
It was just okay, I came to buy a guitar and the salesman totally forgot about us, I waited a half an hour for someone to help with the pending sale, it never happened so we walked out
On several occasions, have I entered the store to try and possibly buy guitars, and every time I am treated terribly. I am 14 years old and have been playing guitar for 3 years, no matter what though, I am constantly treated as a child and told basic beginner tips. Even after telling them how long I’ve been playing they continue to tell me 1st year tricks. Just to add to that, they constantly try to sell me stuff I don’t want or need. Upon telling them I’m not looking to buy they continue to sell amps, cables, guitars, strings, and picks. At my most recent visit, one of the employees, an older man with glasses, was selling something to a customer. My amp was at reasonable volume and wasn’t bothering anyone. Regardless, the man had told me to turn it down. I was reluctant to at first, but did so anyways because I didn’t want to bother anyone. In return, he turned his volume WAY louder than mine was, to the point where I could barely hear my amp. After two to three minutes, he told me to turn mine down some more so he could his up louder. I was in the store for only ten minutes, and immediatly felt unwelcomed. Like I said, this is not the first time this has happened. I honestly recomend taking the drive to guitar center. The employees their are much more customer friendly employees and reasonable prices.
They have lost my daughters Saxophone and are not willing to take responsibility, but would rather try and kick it down the road and ask for more and more time. My gosh this warehouse you store equipment in just be ginormous. Never again will I work with these people!! Terrible service by Derrick and the team out there. SMH terrible service.
8. McCall Music Society
Address: 901 N, 901 1st St, McCall, ID 83638 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Great selection, prices, and had everything I needed to get my son started on the French horn. I’ve ordered sheet music/books many times. They are super helpful and can find just about anything you are looking for. Janet is the Queen for finding music for all your needs!
Every time I’ve had a need for a variety of music, they never disappoint, whether it be piano method books of all ranges, organ music for LDS worship, ukalele books, or anything else random I can think of. Nice staff and good prices!! They go out of their way to help you find just what you need.
I loved the atmosphere in this place!
I have bought a Kawai CN25 from Marion in a total of sale price of 600 plus 13 month renting period. Ends up with about 1645 U.S dollar. I am really happy with what I’ve purchased. And Marion is very nice on settling the deals with me.
Nice location. For service, I prefer the Nampa store.
I enjoy DM very much. It’s so much fun to look around to see all the instruments they have in-store. They had the gift I was looking for (and then some). Someday, I’ll take those violin lessons. For now, I’m saving up to get myself that keyboard bench.
Update: Just noticed I had a response. Must have missed the email on it. I hear what you are saying but telling me October when school starts in August is a no go.
I appreciate the response, but it has not changed my mind. If I cannot get service when I need it then I don’t need to spend other money there either. My review has done nothing for your rating. Just lets people know where we stand if we do not purchase or rent an instrument through you.
Flute Maintenance
If you bought your flute or are renting it from Dunkley, you are golden for maintenance. If you did not, they do not want your business. At least that is what I was told today when trying to take a flute in for maintenance. I called about a week before school let out to ask about this and was told to bring it in after a music camp. It was stated that it was not purchased through them at that time and they were willing to take it and do maintenance. It would be about three weeks.
Due to the large number of instruments for school I was told they would not accept any unless it was purchased or rented from them, but if I wanted to wait until October they would take it at that point. Shouldn’t school instruments be done before October???
Well thanks for your honesty and to the point wording of your message. I used to like coming in here, guess since my flute maintenance money is no good here neither is my other money.
Thanks for the direct message that if you are not a Dunkley instrument owner, you are not important.
Message received.
Pooor customer service , employees standing around and acted like we were bothering them to serve us
The Nampa location is great. Helpful, knowledgeable, experienced. I brought in a violin i bought, and wanted it checked out. So it was sent to their luthier, a fella called “Rand”. This dude needs social interaction lessons. What a rude, short tempered jackal. If you like being talked to in a demeaning and belittling way, have your string instrument looked at by “Rand”. If you like normal, socially accepted treatment, avoid Dunkley or, more precisely, Rand.
10. Gig’s Music
Address: 611 N Orchard St, Boise, ID 83706 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
Some of the best prices in town. Staff is always friendly and willing to go out of their way to answer questions. Would recommend, especially if looking for used quality products.
Great place for new and vintage gear
Great visit to learn what banjos I might be interested in, as well as chatting about local punk music in the area. I talked at length with Dub, who was very interesting, as he knows a lot about various musical genre and bands playing in the Boise area.
The store is small, and the selection of instruments is not exactly large. Chances are, you’ll only find between 3 and 5 bass guitars for sale. There is usually an adequate amount of electric guitars to browse through though. Also, a fairly good selection of acoustic guitars. And, you’ll probably find some other instruments, like cigar box guitars, ukes and banjos.
If you are looking for used instruments and good deals, I think Gigs is worth visiting.
Andy, the store’s proprietor, is friendly, quite helpful, and easy to talk to. Several musicians I’ve talked with say he is a very good guitar tech.
There are one or more guitar teachers working there. I heard one was quite good, but I can’t remember his name, sorry. The teacher or teachers work with both adults and kids.
The worst thing about the store is sometimes people smoke in there. I don’t like being in an enclosed environment in which people are smoking. I tend not to stay long when I smell cigarette smoke. That’s just nasty, and discourages business.
If this store sold more bass guitars, and if no one ever smoked inside, I’ve be giving Gigs a 5 star rating instead of 4.
Great help and service. Instruments were priced Right and in great condition for being used.
They don’t sell reeds…
Talented man with music skills. Awful business techniques.
Egh. A big, mostly empty space filled with pawn shop guitars, dusty packs of new old stock strings, and rack gear from 1991.
Took a bass in for a jack resolder and pickgaurd replace. 10 months go on of having the utmost patience given while being told everytime I went in that “it’ll be ready in a couple days.” My guess is if you’re not a crusty 35 yr old prog metal 6 string bassist that the owner deems cool, you’ll stuff will never get fixed. I would’ve been better served learning how to solder myself. Go to 12th fret on Broadway instead.
11. Blue Rider Music & Instrument Repair
Address: 595 W Ustick Rd, Meridian, ID 83646 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
Amazing service. The people here are so personable and knowledgeable. Been going here for years and if I have a problem with their work I tell them and they make it right
They were so friendly!! Great service!
They are nice and get the job done
I need a trumpet mute and I don’t know if Blue Rider has one! Can someone help?
Helpful staff! They got my son’s trumpet soldered and shined!
12. 12th Fret Music
Address: 2164 S Broadway Ave, Boise, ID 83706 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
The team at 12th Fret are amazing. Hands down, the best in the Valley. They continue to bring in more and more variety – from the most affordable guitars for beginners to high quality professional instruments. Their customer service is superb and they take the time to know their customers. Even for beginners like myself, they make you feel just as valuable a customer as the most experienced player that walks through the door.
Best shop in the treasure valley.
Have dealt with this place professionally since it opened. Customer service is the first and foremost consideration of this business. They are known and respected by local and national musicians. They provide budget instruments for the beginner to vintage collectible gear, as well as the service and support after the sale. This is the first place I recommend when people ask for a local, knowledgeable music store.
Daryl sold the business to new owners and they are not very knowledgeable about guitar repairs or timely about getting back to you. I had to take my guitar repairs to somewhere else to get it done right. But being a local shop, they are still better than a chain store in many ways.
Used stuff !! Cheap…
They bought my test equipment for repairs and haven’t paid! They are liars. No education in electronics at all!
Multiple trips back for guitar work done improperly. Disappointment city. Find a luthier.
Really bad service. I left and went to Guitar Center and spent $1700.00 at Guitar Center. Terrible place.
13. Acadia Music
Address: 707 F St, Rupert, ID 83350 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
This is a great local music shop. They do repairs, instrument set up, and lessons, and they sell on consignment. I sold a guitar on consignment here, got exactly what I was asking, and it sold quickly! They have everything you need, equipment, accessories, instruments, and sheet music. The staff is knowledgeable, and friendly. The store is roomy, and well organized.
This is a fun place to visit!
Excellent little hole in the wall. Very sweet and kind people that will answer your every question with a smile.
14. Mike’s Music
Address: 2455 N Yellowstone Hwy, Idaho Falls, ID 83401 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
Nice selection of guitars, found a couple things I’d been looking for the last time I was there.
Nice, locally owned family business. Very helpful, answered my questions and were very personable.
Replace the switch in my Les Paul did it quick get it right very very reasonable in price
ok shop but nofenders or gibsons to name afew midrange to entry level gutairs good shop for first time buyers
Great service, very knowledgeable staff
Great customer service
Only buy stuff when certain people around, won’t be back
I was given 2 piano books for my birthday and I need the easy print books…so I asked my friend where he bought them..Mike’s music….so I went in and tried to exchange….said not unless I had e a receipt… its NOT like anyone gives the receipt with a birthday gift!!! What a jerk….I wont go back EVER
I been going here for the years. I’m done. Instruments are old and well used. We’re have had issues with everything: from picking up an instrument that stays out of tune to, picking up an instrument that the string breaks when tuning it prior to playing, getting a cello bow for a viola, handle falling off a case, and Most recent, trying to put a violin g string on as the viola a string. I’m going elsewhere. Encourage others to do the same.
15. Chesbro Music Company
Address: 327 W Broadway St, Idaho Falls, ID 83402 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
Great store with good service and a fantastic history of music lovers.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff and instructors. If they don’t have something they will order it for you. A nice place to visit
Amazing send-off for my wife. Thanks and a thumbs up to everyone there with their kind words and support.
Very nice place
They had amazing set up, music stock, instrument stock, and friendly people. Great place to go for most music needs. Repair for instruments is around the corner, though.
Friendly service had what I was looking for
I went there, asked to borrow a guitar cable, and the old guy there said “what for?” After explaining the obvious, he said he didn’t want me playing anything unless I was going to buy something. He then tried to force me to use an amp that I didn’t want to use. After he walked away, I plugged into the tube amp that I wanted to use. He then came back and told me that I wasn’t allowed to play any of the tube amps that were out for people to try. My question is this: why have the tube amps out on the showroom floor if people aren’t allowed to try them? I’m never coming back.
I would never shop at this store, I made the mistake of signing my son up for their rental program which is nothing more than a high interest, high harassment loan scam. These guys are a complete joke. The complete lack of customer service, along with the harassing phone calls, and creepy home visits are enough for me to contact law enforcement. DO NOT give this company your business!
Not thrilled at all with the service of piano, lessons 110.00 a month for a child only, once a week totally outrageous. Piano gallery was way, cheaper and nicer .
16. Mountain Java
Address: 501 Pine St, McCall, ID 83638 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
Very nice staff member! The environment was amazing and the coffee is certainly worth a return visit!
THE best tasting coffee! Great service, location and always a good time. I’ll be back!
My favorite coffee shop in town!
Good coffee
Excellent coffee, Latte’s, and Americano’s. The staff is extremely friendly and it’s about 50 yards from the shores and docks of Lake Payette.
Delicious coffee and great service with a smile. Doesn’t have a lot of seating in the winter though when you can’t sit outside. Would definitely return for another latte!
This place is super tiny and didn’t have hot apple cider for my kids! Everything they offered for my kids had dairy, which my son can’t have.
The drinks we ordered were lukewarm and the batista didn’t seem to care about the customers… Oh is that her typical style?
Why not fly the American Flag instead of the LBGT? Will not return.
17. Welch Music
Address: 1146 Filer Ave E, Twin Falls, ID 83301 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
Amazing fast quality service. Super friendly. Took my daughters flute to be serviced, turn over time was so quick. And they called and let me know what needed done before they did it. With a price quote; that quite honestly was very reasonable, in my opinion! Thank you soooo sooo much !!!! Will be back for sure!
Had tons of music stuff for whatever you need to start learning to starting a band. Fast, clean, friendly, and helped us get what we needed and on our way.
X. A variety of instruments friendly staff
The guys in the back working on my guitar did a great job.
I’m used to great local businesses willing to help you out. Unfortunately this isn’t one of them. When I went in to see if I can test my guitar’s amp system using one of their amplifiers, the owner instantly became hostile and deriding. “Since I didn’t buy my guitar from their place, why should they let me use one of their amps for free?” Obviously they aren’t known for customer service since there wasn’t another customer in sight. I mentioned this obvious fact and left. A different music store a few blocks north was kind enough to let me use one of their amps, and the owners even spent time explaining how the different amps work. While I spent $20 at their place on guitar accessories, I wasn’t looking for an amp that day. But guess which store I would go to when I’m looking to buy an amp?
Sales people are pushy and dishonest.
Put an order in 2 different times for a replacement part for my son’s bells set in January and again in February. After June we still hadn’t received the part. My son’s grade in band was affected because his bells couldn’t attach to it’s stand for concerts Won’t ever return. Actually kinda made him hate band.
18. Welch Music Inc
Address: 1328 Overland Ave, Burley, ID 83318 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
My son needed strings for his violin. They put them on right there. I was in and out and happy with affordably priced strings. Thank you Jeff!!
Great local resource for music supplies.
Good place to buy guitars pianos drums microphones bass guitars amps the cashier is nice
I bought guitar picks
Great people. Good service. Relatively quick repairs.
Not so good customer service, ignored until the long chatty catching up was finished with previous customer. Vague pointing to other side of store for needed items, which wasn’t in stock anyway. Ended up getting everything from Utah.
Welch Music has messed up the violin contract that I had, charged me twice, tried to charge me after I paid off the violin and messed up the tuning. The only time I will go to Welch is when I need a string and Acadia doesn’t have it. They usually don’t know what they are talking about, though they act like they do, and most of the employees can’t tune correctly to save their life because they depend on an electric tuner and have no experience of their own tuning string instruments. My 2 children play a string instrument, violin and cello, but when I bought a brand new violin and had the store tune it, the music teacher said that it was WAY out of tune and not to have the store tune it. The kids music teacher will only go to Acadia Music in Rupert or Dunkley Music in Twin Falls. I have had a PHENOMENALLY POSITIVE experience at Dunkley Music and will always take my business to them. At Acadia Music, the owner is the employee and she tuned my son’s cello with no problems.
19. Discount Music Supply
Address: 5380 E Seltice Way STE C, Post Falls, ID 83854 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
Terry was very nice when I took my 5 year old in for a ukele. It was a quick trip and we will be back. He also gave me some tips on kids and learning music. Highly recommend!
Have always had good device from discount music supply. They let me try out anything. Before I buy. Good prices good people. I will continue biz here
awesome place to pick up some guitar strings, drum head or whatever you need at a fair price. Plus they price match internet prices..
This is the soul of music place…
Good selection and reasonable prices
It’s really too bad these geniuses have the most ridiculous hours of operation. Tried to explain to their feeble minds that people that can afford to spend money on musical instruments are WORKING for a living. Nobody is going to take time off of work to go shop at this place. Open at a decent hour and I’ll shop there. In the last 4 1/2 years, I’ve spent approx. $5,000.00 ELSEWHERE as a direct result of their terrible hours. This I must say is regrettable as I would much prefer to keep the money here in Post Falls. Note: I’ve heard these jokers complaining that sales are very poor at that store. No wonder.
I am on tour with my band, and I am in dire need of some new sticks. We call the store around 5:30 pm to ask them when they close. They close at 6pm and we tell them we are on our way right then. Get there at 5:45 pm and they are closed. I mean, no one there, they counted out, gone. I know many musicians who tour around the area often and I have told them to NOT go to this store. Go to Burts.
I made the drive out here from spokane based on reviews I thought it would be worth it to check it out. I got there at 3:44 and it was closed. I understand it’s in a sort of secret place but if you’re gonna close early you should maybe close around half an hour early rather than nearly an hour and a half early.
20. Burt’s Music & Sound
Address: 1123 Sherman Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814 , Valley County , Idaho , United States
Kind and helpful staff. If they don’t have what you need they’ll do their best to hunt it down for you!
Very nice people. Very knowledgeable
Great people.
Low on inventory
Great knowledgeable staff!
everything you need
They fix guitars but your screwd if you got a Floyd rose. Other than that good store good people.
My nephew wanted a simple stater pack with guitar and amp, etc. Called Burt’s and they said they don’t ever have them and hung up.
Two people there. One was great and full of advice the other made us feel like we had no business being there because we weren’t master musicians. I will take my business and money elsewhere.
