Clean store with friendly staff. Large parking lot. Typically check-out time is minimum. The one area this store needs improvement is in maintaining stock levels of popular items.
It’s okay
It was not as good as it used to be! The store was not as clean nor well stocked. The cashier left me standing at the register for several minutes while she wandered all over the store searching for an item for another customer…
They need to shut down and stock all their stuff!! The store is a complete hazard!! Someone will really get hurt! They will talk on the phone when they have customers. By far worst Dollar General I’ve ever been in.
Employees were very rude
If I could give a 0 star review I would the service and management is awful if management was better I believe the service would be better. Me and my husband came and bought a few things for dinner among those things were flour tortillas, after getting through the first few we noticed mold all over the mid layers of tortillas. We checked the dates and it wasnt supposed to go bad until April. The environment of this shop is obviously un kept or regulated to the temp of the food items on shelves. Me and my husband are not the only ones who ate from this pack before we realized the mistake we had made. All I can do is hope that none of us get sick or even deathly ill from this.
3. Art’s Music Shop, Inc
Address: 4647 US-280, Birmingham, AL 35242 , Vincent , Alabama , United States
❤️ I visited Art’s Music Shop for the first time last week, and I was very impressed with the professionalism of those who worked there and the great selection of instruments and music! Kayci Greer was very helpful and knowledgeable about my flute that needed repair! Their prices are also wonderful! Their dedication to excellence is inspiring!
Great staff
We loved it
Very helpful but the instruments are pretty expensive
Very helpful and friendly
This is an excellent music shop with any kind of music instrument or sheet music you might be looking for – whether student model or professional level instrument they have it. Recommended
No help prices to high
High pressure sales tactics on major purchases. Uncomfortable atmosphere throughout the store, once you state that you might not be purchasing item that day you might as well be dead to them. Stuck up to say the least. Support other businesses if at all possible.
I spent $3500 on a saxophone here and when I tried to sell it back they offered me $150 even though it was in good condition just an fyi
4. Bailey Brothers Music Company
Address: 4673 US-280 Suite # 7, Birmingham, AL 35242 , Vincent , Alabama , United States
Over the years I habe purchased thousands of dollarsof gear from Bailey Brothers. I have always found the owner and staff to be knowledgeable and courteous. I have found their prices to be competitive with national big box stores, but they offer personalized service as a family owned business that the chain stores can’t. They will stand behind their product.
Amazing selection. Employees were really helpful in finding the right guitar for me.
Excellent customer service. I worked with Gibson over six months in trying to find a warranty replacement, and within a week of Gibson enlisting Bailey Brothers to help they had my issue resolved. Bailey Brothers had a great selection of awesome guitars and were very helpful in picking out the right one. I will definitely take a look here the next time I’m ready for a new Gibson.
I needed to buy instruments for my Middle School kids. They were very upfront with their prices and seemed to have the best deals.
Helpful and kind! Will be back to see them soon.
good staff well organize not bad products
Don’t answer the phone
I came in here the other day and they were incredibly overbearing and checked in on me every 30 seconds. From the second I walked in they were all up in my face and insisted on providing an address and phone number whenever I paid which I fully expect to be sold somewhere. I don’t know if they’re struggling to keep the lights on or something but the amount of customer service was way too much and came across as pushy and rude. Literally just let me shop.
I left my guitar with this store in February 2012 for a simple repair. In June it was still hanging waiting for them to repair. I had been told on multiple occasions that it would be ready in just a few days. I picked it up today June 24, 2012 and no repair has been done and I was still charged a bench fee. This place sucks. I will never go in there again. Good luck if you do.
5. Gadsden Music Company
Address: 607 Broad St, Gadsden, AL 35901 , Vincent , Alabama , United States
Very friendly. Quick service. Had everything we needed to get our son started playing Trumpet. Explanation of all options was wonderful!
Awesome service AWESOME PEOPLE
My son buys all of his music equipment here.
Good selection and knowledge staff
Ok
Muy bueno
I play guitar and went in there for some supplies. Very lacking. Used to be the place to go in Gadsden for guitars and amps. Not anymore. There is nowhere in town now.
They have charged me 3500 dollars for a clairnet. My neighbors grandson plays clairnet at the University of Alabama his last year. When he seen how much I paid for this clairnet. He show me, where it only cost 1200 dollar every where else. They are clearly taking advantage of parents that know nothing about instruments.
6. Homewood Musical Instrument Co
Address: 1712 28th Ave S, Homewood, AL 35209 , Vincent , Alabama , United States
Bought a violin here at a great price, sounds great and it’s beautifully set up. Bob is the man, very knowledgeable and personable. Best music shop in town.
Knowledgeable, friendly guys with a great selection!
Have all of my guitars setup here, quality work, good people.
Friendly atmosphere and lots of instruments.
Good product, Good service.
I’ve never dealt with someone so rude over the phone. The owner tried to guilt me with sarcasm and acted like victim when I questioned a price. Full story: I asked to order a cello string. All was going well (owner answered questions about speed of shipping and availability of the string), but then he quoted a price ($81) that was far above what other shops charge. I said respectfully that “I’ve purchased the string for $45 at other walk-in shops” and he became sarcastic and argumentative with me, claiming he was “holding my hand” through the process, and said “Well, I have to pay $35 for this string so what do YOU think is fair for ME to make? $15? What is 35 + 15, huh? Ohhh, maybe $50 is more than you can afford?” A simple, “well this is my price” would have been fine as a response from him, but I felt disrespected so I hung up and decided I’m never going to spend a dime Homewood Musical Instrument Co. I advise everyone else to steer clear of this shop and the guy who owns it.
7. Guitar Pro’s LLC
Address: 224 Main St, Trussville, AL 35173 , Vincent , Alabama , United States
Wonderful people! The in house repair is fantastic- they take a lot of pride in their work and are always fair. My son has taken guitar lessons here and he has has improved so much in a short period of time. Im truly thankful for this local guitar shop and the personal investment the owners make in every individual that walks in the door.
Awesome Shop. The folks are class A people and coffee is always on! If they don’t have an item in stock Tara will find it for you. If you need repairs Bruce & Lucas will take care of you. Lots of guitars, amps etc… and on occasion you’ll find a few vintage pieces too. One of the last true Mom & Pops shops left!
I loved this place because the owner took time and effort to help me understand the differences between styles and sounds of the guitars and other musical instruments he currently had in store that my son is interested in. Most definitely will be returning customers.
Nice selection of new and used guitars. Needs a jam space though..
Friendly staff they have a few harmonicas
Great people and fair prices. Support your local music store!
Accused me of taking out a screw, when all I asked was for the value of what it would cost to fix that. I fixed it myself 16$ out of my own pocket for a new screw, set of strings, and labor on my workbench at home. I thought about going to small claims court, for not selling me a guitar in the condition they claimed on reverb. I’d been looking for this guitar for a while, I didn’t want to just return it. I just wanted it in the condition that I saw it in and felt insulted when they instantly made me out to be at fault even after sending pictures moments after receiving it from UPS and to top it off I even have video of when I first opened it on the CCTV at work. Overall poor online experience.
I bought a guitar for $2,875 from this shop online and they listed it as mint condition. I had to take it to a local luthier to have the frets polished because they were so dirty the guitar was unplayable. The shop refused to even split the cost ($50), wow! Incredible.
WAS our trusted source for guitars and gear.
Took in a Seagull acoustic to have the battery and strings replaced at the end of December 2020(only having someone else do it because of the value of the guitar).
The battery went dead MUCH faster than normal (usually takes 6 months). We are very aware that leavi g guitars plugged in drai s the battery. That was NOT the case here. We took it out and found they had installed a promotional Progressive Insurance smoke detector battery in it. Instead of what we are used to getting, Energizer or Duracell. I called and was told that we should have told them we wanted a better battery. It cost us more than $30 for the strings and a battery replacement. No offer to replace it. The lady said they just use whatever is “handy”. I don’t pay for what’s handy. So much for being Pro’s. If the lady had simply apologized, that would have been the end of it. I wasn’t looking for anything other than to let them know that a substandard battery had been installed. When we brought it in initially, we asked for the strings to be changed and the battery replaced. No one told us at that time that we weren’t being charged for the battery, just that what we asked for was $30, if I had been advised of that I would have either asked for a better battery or brought my own. I hung up when her tone told me how disgusted she was that I called with a problem. As for my other reviews of other businesses you mentioned, I review honestly and fairly. If you notice, I have many very positive reviews of several companies in the area. I managed customer service depts with 4 Fortune 500 Companies in my career. Again, I wasn’t asking for anything except courtesy, which was unfortunately lacking. The lady I spoke with had a “how dare you complain” kind of attitude. (modified for clarity based on the reply from the company)
8. Highland Music
Address: 3000 Clairmont Ave, Birmingham, AL 35205 , Vincent , Alabama , United States
Great staff and selection. Real local musicians work and hang out here. Very cool place.
Always great… knowledgeable associates, the best musicians friendly music store and the best prices..
Great inventory. They sold me a nice PRS Guitar for a fair price. TY!
It kind of feels like grandpa’s basement here, in a good way. Lots of interesting gear to browse through, plenty of it gently used and ready to be rocked again. There are some Strats hanging here that anyone would love to own, plenty of great options for tube amps, replacement speakers and even an eclectic assortment of used pedals that are worth picking through.
Pricing for everything is slightly higher than online for same items, BUT, you get to support a local business and take it home today. It’s the kind of place I’d stop in to a couple times a year if I lived here. Character.
Prices depend on who is working that day.$10.00/$6.95 for percussion sticks.
They generally have the best used stock in Birmingham, lots of great vintage pieces, really just lots of stuff. However, they are not online, not even something as simple as a stock list. it’s really disappointing because I would like to shop and but from them, but it is not easy to get to their location (middle of downtown area, near the hospitals and trendy eating, so lots of traffic). I would buy so much more stuff from them if they would put up anything that simply listed their current stock. I can’t call them and say “hey man, list all of your guitars and conditions for me” every few day, and I am not about to drive 60 minutes from my suburb on a whim. Although I would be up there like a shot if there was an online presence/list, and there was something I wanted. But, since I never know what is up with that place or their stock, and gas is $$$, I just occasionally go, and rarely purchase. Great store, but 4 stars for no way of knowing stock ahead of a long drive through terrible traffic.
Pretentious and overpriced….typical music store snobbery
Very condscending and not friendly to younger people. Im not a know it all but some of the stuff the man was talking about wasnt correct. Rather go to bailey brothers theyre friendly and very nice
Pretty darn rude staff, including the owner, Don. After 40 years in business I guess they’ve earned the right, though.
9. B&C Music
Address: 314C Billy B Dyar Blvd, Boaz, AL 35957 , Vincent , Alabama , United States
This store has everything you could want, from amateur to pro.
I’ve know the owner Connie a long time good business. And a good woman
Eeeeh
Nice folks
Has variety of instruments and types of music. Carrie is a bubbly personality there
this place is burnt!
Awful place with cheap brands and overpriced / broken used instruments.
I felt watched and rushed. Two women were working there that day, one was very friendly. I did not feel comfortable asking questions and also it was so hot in there.
10. Music Corner

Thank you for sharing Music with Joseph Biden. Please support him by supporting the affordable care act. Joe Biden recently had a fall on a plane and he was injured wholly. Please ask Alabama children born on February 1, 2004 to send get well cards and sacred medals.
Great violin shop with great service. Highly recommend!

Beautiful, beautiful piano’s. The staff is awesome. Very friendly.
Very knowledgeable staff
Nice, helpful staff
The staff was friendly, and they have tons of pianos and other equipment to choose from. The space is enormous, and is fun to just browse. They also do repairs. Call or stop by for any musical needs. Would go again.
my experience was questionable. they decide who they want …
13. Counts Brothers Music Inc
Address: 713 Waverly Ave, Muscle Shoals, AL 35661 , Vincent , Alabama , United States
Great deals, helpful sales staff. Couldn’t believe the great deal on this G&L.
Very helpful and has all of your musical needs.
Typical music store. Teachers are always booked to waiting list.
The guys here are very knowledgeable on their stuff
Always very friendly service and very clean store
Over priced needed Reed’s and I can get them 10 for 28-32 dollars any where. Theirs was 10 bucks as. And I had to have them that day. Nope I’m done with them
Seems like some decent prices but very stale service.the blonde at the front desk acts like it hurts her face to smile r speak someone done told her she cute 1 to many times
14. Lisenby’s Music Shop
Address: 831 S Memorial Dr, Prattville, AL 36067 , Vincent , Alabama , United States
I’ve known the owner Lance since 2006 and there is no way I would give anything but a good eval. Always wished that I was as positive as him. Anytime I need something from strings to guitars if he hasn’t got it, he’ll get it. Made me ,mad when he moved to Prattville, now I have to drive an extra 5 miles to get some strings. LOL.
Great customer service and friendly staff! Would recommend to anyone.
The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable on a large variety a musical instruments, repair and care of all types of instruments, lessons and products to further your enjoyment and participation in the art of music!
Lance and Tracy are nice folks. They have a good selection of strings and accessories. Neat place for obscure instruments.
15. Redbox
Address: 4962 US-280, Harpersville, AL 35078 , Vincent , Alabama , United States
Best Boutique in the history of ever! Incredibly attentive, professional, ridiculously knowledgeable and very well-stocked. Seriously, almost better than cheese. I don’t care what the other guitar stores say about them. And that was just my first visit! Peace from Georgia
Great service I’m disabled and they took the time out for a video call to help me get my right instrument thanks guys
It was a ok kind of place. I think it would be great for a beginner. I didn’t see a lot of fender guitar’s and that’s what I like
Super helpful. I didn’t buy anything this time and they didn’t treat me like any less of a customer. I’ll definitely be back to get my LP set up.
Venden cosas para la música a buen precio, hacen arreglos de instrumentos, y dan clases musicales!!!
Ended up paying twice as much as quoted for replacement of one peg on bass. Paid for two when only one needed replacing.
It took 6 weeks just to change the bridge and put some new strings on. They said they would call and they didn’t. Went to pick up the guitar and it has a huge chunk taken out of the neck! I will not be bringing anything to this store nor will I send anyone their way.
Plays way too high for stuff like that
18. The Fret Shop
Address: 309 Jordan Ln NW, Huntsville, AL 35805 , Vincent , Alabama , United States
I’m not sure where to even begin. The staff here exudes kindness and genuine care for the art. They listen to hear what the need is and work to partner the customer with what is the best fit, not what will bring in the most money. It is the focus on creating relationships that will ensure repeat business. I cannot recommend them enough!
Got a Les Paul that needed the bridge pickup ring replaced. They took care of me in less that 4 hours. Change the pickup ring, new strings and good to go for only less than $35. Guy do good work and reasonable prices, not my first time there.
Wonderful people, great service, they were very patient with me coming in RIGHT before close to drop of my guitar for repairs.
Wide variety of stringed instruments. Helpful but not pushy staff. Only saw one acoustic\electric bass. Good deals to be found from a local business but do your research.
So if you are reading these I bet you see the polarity of the reviews. People seem to love it or hate it. The difference is who you deal with there. I’ve always seen 3 guys and one young lady. There is a big guy with a goatee who isn’t friendly at all and you can tell he gets annoyed if you play with an instrument. Then there is a pretty generic looking guy that does most of the repair work. He is the embodiment of the a*hole guitar shop/ comic book store type guy. You’re beneath him and he makes sure you know it. If you can get past these two the young lady is very nice, and I’ve seen her make women more comfortable in what is usually a very male atmosphere. She also seems to know most of the store’s products equally so if you are looking for a dulcimer ask her. The last guy is the only reason I still shop there. Tall, skinny dude with a Rock a Billy haorcut. Hands down one of the nicest people I have ever met in a store. He could not care less if you came in there without a dollar to your name or a single chord to play. He loves music and wants to spread that around. If anyone there had the skill to warrant being haughty it would be him, but he is the last one there to do anything other than brighten your day. I take friends in there who have social anxiety etc. or are just nervous because they don’t play and he puts them right at ease. I would love to write this place off, but one great employee can make a difference. He doesn’t even know the difference he has made with some of my Army buddies that can barely handle being out of the house, but thanks to him there is one place they can go feel like a regular guy perusing a store. When my son is old enough he is who I want him to take lessons from. Truthfully he deserves a better place to work at.
Would’ve been 5. Almost everyone was great, especially the guy that rang me up, and my experience was mostly enjoyable, but grey goatee was rude when I asked for his opinion on some Marshall amps.
Terrible customer service. We bought a $400 guitar here and was told we would get a free alignment. We came back a few days later to get it and the man that we talked to very unhelpful and rude. We will not be recommending this place to anyone. We are very surprised by this behavior considering our contribution to their business during these tough times. Disappointed.
Had a warranty repair done on my sons telecaster relating to the neck pickup. After waiting for about 45 days for the new pickup to arrive from finder I picked up the guitar without testing it at the store. When I got home I plugged it in to find out that it had a major ground issue. The hum was so intense it seemed as though I was summoning lightening. I returned to the store agitated because it was clear it wasn’t even tested after the repair & $56 dollar setup. David assured me it was normal noise a telecaster makes. He said he had a custom shop telecaster that was even worse. However I played the guitar a lot before the part failed and it didn’t have any loud feedback or 60 hertz hum. (4 gen noiseless) After a lot of back and forth and him calling fender to tell them that the customer is complaining of normal noise. I took the guitar to guitar center and compared it to other noiseless telecasters and even a squire tele and it was obviously way way worse, unbearable! So I sent the guitar back to sweetwater (These guys are awesome) were it was purchased and the guitar tech there told me what the issue was. David at the fret shop had soldered an additional ground on the front pickup and that that solder joint had made contact with or caused interference with the coil wrappings. So it was replaced and now works as it should. Once again the guitar sounds beautiful and clean. I had to pay to have this repair done plus a new pickup along with shipping because it was the result of an improper modified solder failure that I didn’t approve or authorize. I can only assume David is dishonest or hard of hearing and also I’m sure he is the most unprofessional person to deal with. All the time wasted for a $30 part I could have easily replaced myself SMH I thought well it’s covered by warranty. lol.. I try to shop local because we all should but I’ll never spend another of my hard earned dollars here. I was taking lessons here as well, the rooms upstairs are kind of musty smelling just FYI.
Yes of course I am leaving the review for the appropriate business! It is my sons guitar that his mother and I bought for him. 2018 MIM Telecaster thin line deluxe. It was repaired under his name so it wouldn’t cause confusion if he needed some other warranty work done in the future also the registration & the warranty card is in his name. FYI
I’m obviously wrong about your guitar techs name but it was the same guy that has done work on my guitars, my girlfriends guitars and my sons guitars. To my knowledge he is the only tech you have or had at that time.
I took a video of the unbelievable sound that it was making, I have the part that was causing it, I have documentation from the technician at Sweetwater that repaired it and I will be happy to share that with you if you actually care. I prefer and try to support local business but I will not be treated the way I was or lied to period! That guy (whatever his name is) has 0 credibility with me. One bad apple. Everyone else was very pleasant and Andy is awesome, its unfortunate.
The white wire is not factory and was not otherized. The solder has made contact with the coil and or melted the insulation on the factory wires. It literally sounded like it was summoning lightning. Instead of saying oops and fixing it he tried to convince me it was normal. The whole experience was remarkable!
Very very rude. Bad attitude. Wait and wait for someone who works there, then get the vibe that the guy is thinking, “You’re an annoyance. I only tolerate you because you might buy something one day. Go away until you do.” Will never return to the fret shop. Very sad because it used to be a nice place.
19. SAM Productions LLC
Address: 2034 Forest Lakes Ln, Sterrett, AL 35147 , Vincent , Alabama , United States
Tommy is a very generous and professional owner. He has worked on my guitars for 20 years and has not once disappointed me.
Best place in Huntsville for your guitar needs.
huh!
Great place for all you musical needs
T Shepard’s is a great shop, and Tom is a terrific, skilled, and knowledgeable guy.
The straps and strings and accouterments are top-notch.
And the selection of guitars for sale is interesting, diverse, and attractive.
Don’t be in a hurry, though, if you drop your guitar off for repairs.
And don’t expect a phone call or email to let you know about delays well past the implied pick-up date.
This is Mayberry, Andy.
Not Mount Pilot.
Just not the place to buy music
Mr Shepard doesn’t seem to understand how to correctly repair tuning stability issues.
He may want to consider the fact that a new customer doesn’t always mean new player. He insulted me when I told him ‘guitar will not stay in tune’ I’d like it repaired’ His response was “you mean it won’t stay in tune or you can’t get it in tune?” Wow.
Sir, I’ve been playing for 38 years. Im a seasoned player. I love music. And I would have loved to find a small shop to do business with instead of that behemoth Guitar Center. Speaking of GC, I only turned to them because this same Mr Shepard was rude to me on the phone last December when I was in the market for a new rig…I mean I’ve bought a Marshall amp, a full complement of pedals, And an American Standard Strat, a Gibson Les Paul. So maybe you should reconsider to whom you are rude in the future. I gave you a chance to earn my business and you blew it. Since last December, I’ve spent over $3000 at GC,and guys like you whine about GC all the time yet you don’t seem to understand why your own business is stuck off in the boondocks, or you constantly have to move around.
