A paint brush is a paint brush… until someone finally teaches the difference. All home projects can be difficult and leave you banging your head against the wall. But when working with a place like Washington Supply they can save you a lot of mistakes, missteps and redos when over 555 years of combined knowledge becomes accessible to you. For the price of a paint brush.
If you’re in the NW hills in Connecticut, this is the best hardware store to be found. It’s been around for generations and continues to have excellent service and products.
Best customer service whatever you need
Nice store or stores, I should say. Two stores side by side. One is traditional hardware store selling everything from screws, to windows, to paint
Other is outdoor related, garden tools, fertilizer, deer repellent, deer fencing, etc.
It has a nice department of outdoor decorative items, sculpture, glass items, rustic things.
I go and purchase frequently, but it is a little pricey, though. I support as much as I can but also use the big box stores on major product purchases to offset.
Local hardware store, ask specifically for Tom, he is a long time part owner, with the best customer service skills of anyone there
My go-to store for the hard-to-find DYI essentials.
I’ve been buying on this place for the last 8 years. It was used to have a great customer service! Every body was there trying to help you and they were very kind with customers. Now under the new management it’s the worst shopping experience. If you’re right in the customer service ready to pay, no body will ask you if you’re ready to pay. Employees are minding their own business in the computers and they don’t care if there are customers doing a line waiting to pay, instead you have ask to them if they’re free so you can pay.
Not to mention that I have spoke with a few friends and they can relate with me. Other then the bad customer service I should say the place it’s very convenient and it looks great.
It’s truly a shame that this store has just placed the paint department in the front of the store and fired Brian, who was a terrific asset in all my painting needs. He went above and beyond in assisting everyone. Sadly, they will no longer get my business.
Employees rudely demands that customers wear masks in the middle of summer , they stand behind a table with no masks . Total hypocrite, overpriced anyways
3. Big Johnson’s Guitars
Address: 18 Commons Dr, Litchfield, CT 06759 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
I have been working with Scott for many years for both school and personal music consultation, instrument purchases, and private lessons for students. He is always willing to help, often has the necessities in stock, and if he doesn’t, he knows how to get things quickly. His prices are very competitive and he works to accommodate individual needs and budget. Private teachers are top notch — highly recommend this shop and school!
Fabulous
If you have a guitar in need of repair or set up look no further, Scott is your guy! I’ve taken two of my guitars — one needed all new electronics, the other need a new nut and fret dressing. I couldn’t be more pleased the results, Scott absolutely nailed it. Now I never want to put them down!
I’ve also taken a PA head/speakers and bass amp that needed repair and he did an amazing job on those as well. Great guy, fair prices, can’t be beat.
4. Five Janes
Address: 3 Bryan Hall Plaza, Washington Depot, CT 06794 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
This tiny shop is a treasure trove of gifts, jewelry, apparel and all those things that make shopping fun. The window displays are so subtly inviting and each vignette in the store showcases the owner’s talent for finding just the right merchandise. The more you look, the more you see and the more you can’t live without. There are unique items for every age range and price range. Gift giving is made special with the carefully curated selection of unique, quality pieces; beautiful wrapping and selection of quirky cards. This is the kind of shop where you will always feel welcome, will always have fun, and will never leave empty handed.
Cute little shop selling gifty items. Located next to the food market in Washington Depot. Worth going into if you are in the neighborhood. (For gals not guys).
Cute gift shop, very friendly service!
5. George’s Music Center
Address: 905 New Harwinton Rd, Torrington, CT 06790 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
George’s music was very clean and has a good stock of the necessities for any instrument.
A very friendly, professional music store. Great selection of quality equipment and accessories for many instruments. I’m old enough to remember what a local music used to be like, and George’s is very familiar in that regard. Personable, knowledgeable service in a very clean atmosphere. Check them out!
If you’re not looking to go too far to get musical instruments. Look no further. Expensive though. But if you don’t care about prices, go for it. Not much of a selection though.
Meh
Nice shop
After going to this place; I must say I will never go back there again. The owner is so rude and disrespectful. Its not even funny. The owner needs get off his anthropocentric state of mind.
This place is just awful. The owner is so rude to us that i will never go back. We rented an instrument from him because our normal music store didnt have the instrument and when the instrument broke he said it was our fault and that it wasnt covered and then bad mouthed our local music store.
6. The Music Shop
Address: 22 Mc Dermott Ave, Torrington, CT 06790 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
Keith took great care of me! I’m a beginner guitar player and broke one of my strings, had no clue what to do. I purchased the strings there and he taught me how to put them on right in the store. He even tuned my guitar, and gave me some tips to keep it maintained. Service like that is RARELY found. TY Keith!!
Keith was very open and helpful during his purchase of my son’s used drum set. He explained everything clearly and followed through on his statements. Courteous and respectful throughout, he helped make the transaction pleasant. I would definitely return to his shop.
Our 13 year old son has been taking private saxophone lessons at ” The Music Shop” for over 4 years, starting with Leo Liddle. Keith Wilson, a very talented musician took over as his teacher and we love his dedication and perseverance to help expand our son’s musical knowledge with the sax, while also making it fun. The expansion of his new location makes the updated atmosphere a wonderful learning environment, and also has great on site repair service.
7. Marty’s Cafe
Address: 4 Green Hill Rd, Washington, CT 06794 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
Local small town cafe with the highest quality ingredients
Great local cafe.
Great place to eat when I’m in the depot
I am a regular customer. Sometimes up to three times a week. I love Marty’s and I would love to give a five star rating but I’d like to see this fixed first. Every so often I will get a salad that looks like this. Already tossed with dressing. By the time I get home to eat the croutons are soft and the lettuce wilted. What is this slop? It makes me think that that regular chef is on vacation or something. Usually the salad is beautiful with all the toppings organized and dressing in a little container. I’ve gotten two salads that look like this, this week. It’s disappointing…
Small town, quaint new england coffee shop. Great coffee and food
Nice cozy local hangout. Great sandwiches.
If you eat inside you get waiter service. If you want to eat outside, you need to wait on the line and order at the counter. Then when it’s ready they bring it to your table.
And bring your dog. They have nice meals for dogs – only $2.
But the wait is long. Even the line to the toilet is long.
Supposedly the kitchen closes at 3 but they don’t let anyone know until you’re in line to order. And they’re super rude about it
I love the town of Washington but SAVE YOURSELF A TRIP. This was the worst experience I have had from a cafe. The food came out and I was immediately disappointed as it looked unappealing and was not cooked properly. It ended with terrible stomach pain and multiple trips to the bathroom. The worst part was the customer service from the owners. The owners come off unwelcoming and snobby. Save your money from this overpriced tourist attraction.
Very nice place and location but the service is horrible! My wife gets the worse service there. It’s sad we try and be patient but as a local here in Washington we don’t go there anymore. Young people who are not paying attention or being supervised working there to make sure it’s running smoothly.
8. Creative Music Center
Address: 701 Main St, Monroe, CT 06468 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
The older guy really helped me with my guitar! He was so nice!
Awesome staff and great deals! No surprise they have 5 stars!!!
I love this place, i go in just to look at the product and I always end up buying something.
Terrible, definitely wouldn’t recommend it to anyone in this planet or another. I originally paid through Groupon just to see if the classes worked out for my son. I paid for 45 mins and they only gave me 30mins classes for my son ,that should of been the 1st red flag. But then they make you sign a paper and they ask you to put a credit card info even though I paid for the 1st month in full. So we tried that 1st month and decided it wasn’t for my son,he didn’t like it.so then I thought I was done with this establishment and they kept charging me even though I was done with them clearly, scammers.terrible customer service!
Scheduled a guitar lesson here, spent $45, arrived on time, the teacher I was assigned to never showed up. At least they were nice enough to give me my money back the next day.
Brought my daughter’s flute in to be repaired. Over a month and they never touched it. No time table given for when they would fix it.
9. The Music Shop
Address: 405 Queen St, Southington, CT 06489 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
So during this pandemic we are dealing with I felt myself wanting to start jamming again. So with almost every retail store being closed and having to rely on online and waiting, (I’m not patient, lol) I took a shot to see if any guitar stores were possibly doing curbside in Ct. Found the music shop in southington,ct was doing curbside. Upon calling I spoke with Scott, great customer service!! After talking to Scott about my music style and and what I was looking for, within 20 mins I had received pictures and fell in love with what scott suggested. Normally when I buy a guitar, its multiple guitars i play and usually takes a couple hours to choose. Let me tell you scott nailed it!!!! The guitar, an ibanez art120 and a 75watt peavey amp with effects and cab sounds built in…and let me tell you both products are hands down amazing!!! On top of that within 20 mins he threw a new set of strings on and did a full setup!!!! Totally worth the hour and a half ride!!!! These guys rock, thanks again scott!!!!!!!
GREAT SERVICE !!!
We had a great experience at the music shop in Southington. We went in to buy a guitar for our son. Tyler was really helpful and answered all our questions patiently. Thank you Tyler!
Great place but website could be better such as pics of some used equipment. I’m a drummer and would like to see what they have for new and used cymbals, stands, drum kits etc. And prices. I have done business with them and always had a great experience the reason for three stars is the website doesn’t do the music shop justice. All and all great store great people.
The cellos were in not in good shape and we had to pay a luthiere to redo repairs that were poorly done when we received the instrument.
10. JC Music
Address: 529 W Main St, Meriden, CT 06451 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
I brought my flute in for an emergency repair at 6pm on a Friday. Shawn fixed it for me immediately, and didn’t charge me! He gave me a tour of some of the used horns for sale there — great stuff! I’ll definitely go back.
Very pleased with my experience at JC Music. I thought they were very knowledgeable, able to assess the instruments I brought in, make repairs and sold 2 items for me. I got a fair price, sold sooner than I expected and I received a check promptly. I have dealt with another music consignment shop and was not satisfied with them .This store was very efficient. I would recommend them for buying or selling any musical equipment.
We have been looking all over for piano books and they had a fantastic collection all at reasonable prices. My daughter is playing from one of our purchases right now!
My grandson really enjoyed the music lessons and they are very professional and knowledgeable. Highly recommend them.
Would like to obtain some nice brushes and some type of top hat set used and very sturdy since I break percussion instruments all the time when I perform?
My son, Roberto Luis and Rosa live in Meriden. Are you far from the mall? I have spent a lot of time jamming in Puerto Rico to salsa, merengue, etc but my favorite is funk like Buddy Miles.
Never have any of the literature or instrument parts I’m looking for. Took 3 months to repair a trombone. I tried to return an item and they wouldn’t give me back the cash to go to another place. The owner has blatantly disrespected my mother on several occasions and doesn’t have much knowledge of much of anything outside of rock music. As far as i’m concerned, this is the worst music store i’ve ever set foot in and would not recommend to anybody.
This was a horrible expierence. They need to get their stuff together, they had already-sold instruments on shelf. They had an amazing guitar sale and when I went to buy, it was already sold! They got my hopes high and let it down and I will not give them my money any longer.
Completely disappointed. I placed an order in store on a instrument that was never placed with JC music. The customer service was poorly displayed and the options they gave us was not acceptable. I asked to speak to the owner several times and would not get on the phone and made his new employee talk to me. I ended up going somewhere else that was amazing
11. Goldie & Libro Music Center
Address: 380 Washington Ave #1, North Haven, CT 06473 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
For any musician (beginner, intermediate or professional) needing to purchase, service or lead about music, Goldie and Libro is the only music store to go to in the state. The dedicated staff members take the time to learn and support their customers with their musical endeavors big or small. They are experts in repairs and servicing instruments with decades of music knowledge. When I needed to get my 10 year old trumpet serviced, there was only one place I would take it: Goldie & Libro.
Rented a violin for my granddaughter and they were wonderful.
Jack was very helpful when purchasing my guitar. He even gave me a new set of strings for a guitar that was already discounted!
I had a few questions so I called this place. The jackass who answered the phone, I’m assuming is the owner. Made me feel stupid and discouraged me from trying to play the instrument I was inquiring about.
I do Not recommend this place to anyone. The owner of the shop was very rude. When my card declined for some reason he announced it very loadly to everyone and when I gave them my second card he hoped my card was working this time.
Steer clear of this place!
They were supposed to call me with the cost of the repairs to see if I would authorized them. It took them 12 days to call me back and tell me that they have repaired the instrument. They made repairs WITHOUT authorization, then I had no choice but to pay for the work. The service was terrible, it took too long, they went ahead without my authorization and I got stock with the bill.
If possible, will NEVER again do business with this place. I am already giving my business to the “Music Center” near by.
12. DuBaldo Music Center
Address: 881 Main St, Manchester, CT 06040 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
Finally got to visit after doing some business over the phone 18 years ago with Pete. Great inventory, selection and people. One of the very best examples of why we need to support local businesses and how great a family can run them!
Fantastic service, fast shipping, and competitive pricing.
That was likely the most pleasant guitar buying experience I have ever had. I could not recommend patronizing this amazing store more. Thank you so much!!
Great service
13. Turnpike Music Garage
Address: 1485 Black Rock Tpke, Fairfield, CT 06825 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
Thank you turnpike music garage your the best we can always count on you got my baby girls cello for the orchestra right on time. Amazing place.
Hi Donny
Friendly staff and good price for instrument rentals.
A little hard to find, but owner was very helpful in my search for a solid-woods Classical guitar. Looked at a very nice A/Yari. Has some nice guitars, but he is limited by space constraints. If the f-ups in Washington and the greedy sob’s on Wall St would all drop dead, this store would have a good chance of growing.
Had an excellent selection of strings. Plan on visiting again soon.
I got My sons cello at this store and the bridge was broken and the stand
14. The Smithy Cafe at 9 Main
Address: 9 Main St, New Preston, CT 06777 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
Breakfast special. Delicious! Fabulous muffins and assorted baked goods.
Great
Loved the food
The new owners are typical New Englanders- not very friendly…therefore it lacks a certain charm that was once there. The food is still good, but they have since raised the prices; a muffin now costs ~$4!!
Tasty but too expensive for the amount of food you get
If you are gluten free this place is heaven- their home baked gluten free bread is outstanding. It’s been a while but if I recall they can up their espresso drinks game but so can most of north west CT so I can’t hold it against them. I go hear for fabulous food, great atmosphere, and kind people!
I have been anxiously waiting to go here since I love the Smithy Market. Walked in at 8am, only two other customers in the place who were seated. Stood at the counter for five minutes and no one even acknowledged me. So extremely disappointed since I was so excited for this Cafe to open. Pretty bad customer service and I won’t give it another try after that. All it takes is a ‘good morning, I’ll be right with you.’ I would have stood and waited but it was so rude – I know they saw me, but ignored me. Too bad … was really looking forward to it opening.
CASH IS NOT KING THERE. Tried to place an order to pick up on our way to the nearby Hopkins Winery but could not since we had cash. So we had to wait a long time for our order and arrived late to meet our friends to eat. Food was good but wish it was more convenient to place an order.
Good food.Priced a little high
15. Windsor Music Centre
Address: 95 Poquonock Ave, Windsor, CT 06095 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
I went into this store this week. Sal, the owner is one of the one puff the midst pleasant people I’ve ever met. Great music store.
Go there… support local music
It’s okay.
Nice guy and great service so far!
Rented a violin during 2012/2013 school year. Throughout the school year violin needed numerous repairs, therefore, I did not rent from them the following school year. Low and behold as reviewing my bank statements I noted a monthly charge from them. Upon calling and speaking with “Joe” I was told that even though the violin was never returned to me after the last repair, I did not officially return the violin. and the charges can not be or won’t be refunded. Duly note that the violin is and has been with them since June of 2013 and the owner acknowledged this fact. I now know why they were not listed as a rental place by the school system. I would never buy from them again or refer any business their way.
My grandma brought two ukuleles here to be repaired before she passed away. They were from the 1940s and held a lot of sentimental value for me, as they were the first instrument I ever learned to play on. After she passed away, a family member went to retrieve them and the store conveniently had “no record” of them. Scammers and low lifes.
Not bad.
16. Wright Music
Address: 5 Main St, Port Washington, NY 11050 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
Nice people… they are willing to help/advise you anytime
Their customer service is top notch. I was desperately in need of original sheet music in an extremely short timeframe (completely my fault) and they went above and beyond to assist me. I cannot thank you guys enough without your help my kid would have had to drop out of NYSMA.
Knowledgeable, helpful staff. Can get any music related item a musician may need.
They’re professional and have a variety of instruments for rental.
17. The Music Lab, LLC
Address: Rochambeau Mall, 1783 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike UNIT 1, Milldale, CT 06467 , Washington , Connecticut , United States
Jon does great work! I have been bringing my clarinets to him for several years and am always happy with the results
Great place to get your trumpets repaired!
I was setting up for a holiday gig and my saxophone fell off the stand and was damaged. I called John at the Music Lab and told him what happened and that I was at a gig and had another the following day.
It was less than an hour before he closed on a Saturday. He told
me to bring the horn right down. I did. John dropped what he was doing and he went through my horn immediately and made the necessary repairs and did so at a very reasonable price.
John saved the gig the next day for me.
