What a great experience I have had recording at Root Cellar Studio. Very professional, clean and comfortable environment. The mic and amp selection is top shelf in addition to the skillful engineering and mixing . I have recorded 4 different projects there now and looking forward to the next opportunity I have to make art there again. High value, well worth the investment.
I would strongly recommend this studio to any professional artist.
The Root Cellar is a very high quality recording studio with top of the line equipment hidden behind an all-too-humble engineer. David knows how to bring out the most important and tender parts of a song and he helps me make the magic I want to express with each moment. The Root Cellar is such a comfortable place to make music. David made me feel at home in the studio instantly, and Willow helped. I’m so excited to finish my project with him and share it with the world.
The Root Cellar is a magical, nurturing and inspiring gem of a place. I have been blessed to have been able to work with David. For myself, more of a closet artist that has never been keen of crowds or having the need to perform in public, I have found a place with arguably the best equipment in the world to lay down some of my most treasured expressions of my deepest vulnerabilities. In David I have found a musical mentor, a champion of my work but most importantly a close friend. His ear is impeccable. His humility can only be described as biblical. Whether you are a seasoned pro who happens to be on Maui… an artist wanting to take a vacation and lay down some tracks…or you are a rambling soul that has carried a guitar with you for the last 23 years and wanted to get something better than a cassette, or now a smart phone to listen and share your most treasured expressions- Then Root Cellar is for sure the place for you. Aloha- and hope to see you here.
When can I stop by and check it out very interested in making music
Milton is well organized and very knowledgeable. I have the utmost confidence in him and i am looking forward to seeing my guitar fixed after so many years.

Aubrey is a wonderful piano teacher. We have been going to her once a week for 7 years! She’s very reliable, and super organized too. She’s become a mentor for my daughter, and a friend to me.
La Ti Da is a great music school! It’s very welcoming and interactive for children.
My daughter has a lot of fun and learns so much with Aubrey. She can’t wait to go back to class every week !
We enrolled our then 15 month old into the Baby Group Music class as a different way to engage with her. She loved it! The activities were engaging and it was fun to have her socialize with children who were around her age. Ms. Rita is kind and engaging. We are looking forward to when group activities start, and, even moreso, for when our daughter can join the keyboard lessons!

Great experience, at least for an absolute beginner who wanted to buy a uke. I received excellent help selecting an appropriate uke for my situation — not too cheap, but not too expensive in case I never use it — and walked off with an Islander tenor, a tuner, and a carrying case. Very happy. Then COVID-19 struck, and voila, plenty of time to practice. So far I haven’t gotten good enough to play to humans, but my dogs like the show, and I get better every week. I recommend this friendly shop.
Julia helped us, since the owner was away. Fantastic service, so much that we purchased an Islander Ukulele. Great little store. Please see Julia’s paintings while you are there, they are phenomenal!
Just amazing! Woow
Worst customer service ever. The man working there couldn’t even bring his head up off his iPad to acknowledge our presence. Too bad too because I was ready to buy a ukulele.
12. Kula Market Place
Address: 15200 Haleakala Hwy, Kula, HI 96790 , Kula , Hawaii , United States
A lot of good stuff here, including food, grocery, souvenirs created by local artists (Christmas ornaments, paintings, postcards, etc.), travel essentials. Public washroom is available. Ladies at the counter are very friendly.
Great selection of necessities, food, drinks, gifts at very reasonable prices. I got a poncho for $2.50 and a meal (chicken caesar salad) for $8. Friendly and helpful staff.
Beautiful store, great location, and very friendly staff. Prices can be a bit high compared to chain drug stores.
Beautiful store.
Prices are high and in my opinion not worth it.
Fun stuff, great place for gifts! But would have never found it without GPS, and I’ve been there before! Also a bit pricey, but somethings are worth it!
For a small, out of the way place, you’d think a little courtesy and kindness would be par for the course. Not so here! The lady behind the counter was rude and unkind. Beyond that we found the prices to be far more than lots of other places in the area.
Avoid this place unless you like the locals being rude and threatening!
Stay away. Super rude staff and basically just a tourist trap. Made in China products and nothing locally made or produced on the islands. Spend your money locally and give to the natives further down the road or to the ones selling fruit off their front door. Both ladies in store were very unwelcoming and appeared almost annoyed I was even shopping with my wife. Just a pit stop for the bike riders on the mountain to grab a quick snack since there is nothing else near by which makes it unfortunately a monopoly. And the bathroom was disgusting. No aloha spirit here. No kindness. Move on.
Came in after eating a great lunch at the lodge. Store was closing in 10 minutes. Clerk was extremely rude. Reminding us with a running countdown of how many minutes until closing. “10 then 7 then 6.” No smile, absolutely unfriendly. I get wanting to be done, but we felt very unwelcome.
Terrific experience at Bounty Music today. I brought a friend in as she was in the market to purchase an ukulele with plug-in capability. Our salesperson Tyler, couldn’t have been nicer or more informative. He showed her a beautiful mahogany finished Kala in her price range that also happened to be on sale. Tyler plugged her uke in so she could hear how great it sounds when amplified. She bought the uke and is extremely happy with it and the service from Bounty Music.
Mathew, Racall , Rob and the whole staff at Bounty Music Maui, Owners Avi and Paul have created a wonderful family (Tom too ) lol Mathew played about 8 guitars with me (for hours) until I found my mate , a Taylor 414 ce R which pretty much did what all 7 other guitars could do Go to Bounty , they are the best and will take care of you , Thankyou & Aloha Uncle Rich
Very nice
Had to drive around to the back of the store. Store clerk had me wait outside as he went to get two packs of guitar strings. They had what I was looking for. Only took a couple of minutes.
Always the best prices, the only prices LOL, LOL, LOL,
The only music shop on Maui. I spent a lot of money here on instruments. However, it is expensive. no competition sucks on Maui.
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!
Hey Beware,
I’m sorry but I’ve had a couple of rough experiences at bounty. I wanted to buy an artist series Stratocaster. I explained that I had looked online and was wondering if they could match the price or come close? I was told…
“If you can find it online you should just order it there, it’s easier.” I did explain that I like to support local businesses … but the sales guy was less than interested, and he just ended the conversation by walking away . Boy did I feel naive! I will say that I went online and ordered a nice guitar with free shipping and it was at my door in no time. I’ve since ordered an amp and two more guitars… all online without talking to Bounty. I have to confess that all experiences were “easier” than dealing with Bounty.
I just got off the phone with them and again I can’t believe the attitude. I explained that I was going to ship some guitars to the mainland, and did they have any guitar boxes that they were going to recycle or throw away? If so I would like to reuse them…you know go “green”. I’m not planing to ship for a couple of months.
“no” we don’t have any of those boxes…I was told, but we will sell you a Taylor box for 20$. They hung up on me before I could explain that I can get a bundle of 5 boxes for 8$ (online) with free shipping, so 20$ for 1 box is … well typical Bounty. I’m not really sure what the bad attitude is at Bounty? It is true that you can buy online for quite a bit cheaper than what Bounty offers on almost every single item they carry (this includes shipping costs).
Honestly Bounty seems disinterested and even lazy sometimes. I still go in and look every once in a while, but I don’t feel compelled to spend my money there.
1 star because, really it’s not worth the head ache to drive into town to put up with bad attitude!
I’ll give another star because a couple of the staff members are very nice… so it’s not a total waste of time…
I recommend that you do what I do which is… I just sit at my computer with a hot cup of coffee and shop away.. (go Prime!).
I bought 2 guitars there. I’m happy with the guitars so they get an extra star. Their service is awful. I get that artistic people shouldn’t be expected to be the most professional at work so I gave them slack. I brought my guitar in to get serviced (strings buzzing on electric). Guy X says “The guy who can fix that isn’t here today and to start the process you gotta talk to Guy Y over there.” ( is there really only one person out of the 6 here that knows how to put a tag on a guitar with my name/#/ and problem?) I couldn’t believe only one person knew how to adjust it that worked AT A GUITAR/UKULELE SHOP. Guy X ditches me and I’m left stranded. There was more that day but I’ll stop here because Guy Y basically ignored me and helped people behind me.
I left it there (finally, and it wasn’t guy Y who helped but a girl who saw me there in line for 20 min and felt bad, she put a tag on the guitar with name/#/ and problem). 2 days later I called to see how it was going. They said “Dude, we’ll call you when it’s ready, click.” I went there 3 days after I left it and they said it hadn’t been touched. Would you trust a mechanic who didn’t even touch your car after 3 days in the shop? I wouldn’t. I took it home, watched YouTube videos and got it done.
If you need something NOW you have to go there. I love to support local business, even if they’re more expensive (to be fair in my cases they were not more expensive than online). However, I won’t support any business that is careless with me.
Fast, easy ordering process. Quick delivery and although they were lacking packing material due to the pandemic, they improvised and the uke came through in perfect condition. It looks better than the pictures on the website. I’m very pleased.
The customer service I received was undeniably top notch. Paul was able to answer all my questions promptly and put me at ease with my ukulele purchase. Even after the transaction was completed, the customer service I received when I had a little issue with getting my delivery from FedEx just exemplifies the high quality level of service they provide. Thank you again so much!!!
Bounty Music & Ukes .com did an amazing job with my order. They were responsive, quick and they got the order right! I’d recommend Bounty Music on-line & will use them again and again.

We don’t know anything about ukes. My wife wanted to get me a nice one as I like collecting instruments. Whoever was working recommended a mango wood uke & it is impressive. It was right about $1000, but it is the best sounding uke I’ve ever heard & it keeps a tune forever. Great instrument & excellent recommendation. Thank you Mele Ukulele
Wonderful shop and fair prices for a Ukulele!
Amazing selection.
Great selection of ukuleles from starter models through high end. Many different styles and tunings, and knowledgeable, friendly staff. Several 6 and 8 string ukuleles. They have some with two sound holes that are a bit louder and with a unique appearance. Small selection of guitar-leles.
When we found out we were going to Maui I knew I wanted a Hawaiian hard wood ukulele for my collection! Then I saw Paula Fuga play with a 6 string ukulele for her new album and I needed to have one of those instead!
When I went, I was a little disappointed because they only had their 6 string ukuleles tuned like a guitar, not a ukulele. With the reasoning that they don’t sell that well because there isn’t enough demand. I understand though because I still got one!
It’s a limited edition mango wood 6 string with detailing and gloss. It had a small crack in the gloss in the back that I didn’t notice when purchased but I don’t mind character in an instrument!
Our rep was awesome! We gave us 1 on 1 time to help me with the decision, sold us the hard case for $50 and threw in a set of extra strings for free since we bought a $2000 instrument.
The manager is knowledgeable and nice. The brand Mele is made in Hawaii by the owner but the owner is from Boston. He’ll throw in a free case to travel in, make sure to ask if he doesn’t offer.
All instruments here are strung low-g. The explanation I got from the attendant was that they have always sold just low-g. We were told that all the pieces could be strung with traditional re-entrant tuning. But that didn’t appear to be a genuine offer to do so. This tells me they just don’t give a rip and they have a clientele that is willing to pay their premiums that really know nothing about traditional ukulele.
This shop caters to those who are more classically trained or are wanting a nice wood box to put on their wall.
You don’t care. Congratulations! I do care and here is your review.
