awesome business! buys, sells, and repairs vintage guitars(and newer stuff too). if you’ve got guitar business to do, go here first. you’ll get a better deal and leave with a smile on you’re face!
Joe knows his stuff. Whether it’s to repair a guitar or to find the right instrument for you, you can count on him. It’s also nice that it’s done with a smile.
Best local music store that would be willing to help you get anything you need.
It’s okay place kind of small
It’s okay , inside the Mall , didn’t have what I was looking for .
Great store… decent prices. Went in for a used classical guitar and came out with a nice one. Came with case even. Added an American -made humidifier, works well. Smaller place, but has the important things. Recommend highly
pretty bad guitar setup. took over a day and went to pick it up and the guitar was dirty. they didn’t even clean it there was dust all over it. there was a loose screw in the saddle i had to fix. low e string buzzing worse than before. save your time and your money and go to a better place.
Burned by this store over a Reverb purchase. I paid $450 total for a mini french horn they advertised as in “excellent” condition. When I recieved the horn I started noticing that the 3rd valve doesn’t close and open all the way disrupting airflow when pressing and depressing. Even after oiling the valve, there was no change. This horn is non-functional to a player. 1st the store decieded to deny any return or exchange to address the issue immediately. Then I tried to contact Reverb customer care and tried demonstrating this in a video to them. Both the seller and Reverb responded with a guilty until proven innocent skepticism that left me stuck with an unplayable horn. It took a lot of hassle and time away from normal living dealing with both of them. I would advise anyone not to buy a brass or woodwind instrument from this store unless you can inspect it first. Either they don’t play the instrument themselve, or they knowingly sold an unplayable instrument not caring.
I have played horn (F horn) semi-professionally for over 22 years in wind bands, orchestras, and jazz ensembles. I also have extensive knowlege of major brands and makers and designs of horns and am qualified to advise other players.

This is the most professional guitar store that has ever been in Prescott. I’m talking about Prescott Music store on Goodwin St in the 1970s and every music store since.
My Telecaster’s frets were buzzing like crazy, the neck was bowed and the intonation was screwed up as well. 30 minutes in Rick’s hands and it plays perfectly.
As a guitarist who has played since Jimi Hendrix’s “Are You Experienced” was released, I recommend Rick more highly than any guitar technician I have ever known.
UPDATE: Rick turned my unplayable Danelectro into the best I’ve ever heard a Danelectro sound.
And my Gitane Gypsy guitar was buzzing just enough on the 3rd fret of the high E string to bug the heck out of me. But now it plays beautifully again.
Great place
Best guitar shop I’ve ever been to! Fantastic customer service, went to several different shops looking for a first guitar. None of the other shops showed the same respect for a beginner artist.
The owner is a pretty cool guy. Very knowledgeable on everything in the store. He has also made guitars for some of the biggest names in music history.
Listed as open on Monday. Drove from Spring Valley to find them closed. Need to correct this.
The owner of this establishment is beyond rude, he didn’t answer any questions (which I believe is because he has 0 knowledge of anything pertaining to his little business) and he over prices everything. I understand it’s a local business so prices will be higher but his USED banged up instruments are at least 70% higher than anywhere else for the same NEW instruments which is unreasonable.
I’ll be shopping at a honest local music shop.
Thank You
5. PRESCOTT VALLEY MUSIC – PV MUSIC
Address: 8561 Florentine Rd suite a, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314 , Williamson , Arizona , United States
They were so helpful when I recently purchased a guitar, got accessories and music books. It was so nice to have people care about your success and give honest recommendations. My husband went with me and he was also impressed. They will be my future go to music store from now on. Julie S
Russ is a very honest person.
I ended up in PV Music after running to different music stores all day trying to figure out what bass guitar I want as a new player. I was immediately greeted and helped. Being that I couldn’t play well enough to do much more then just hold the bass and see how it feels it was difficult to really get a feel for what I wanted. The staff was more then helpful; answering questions, demoing basses for me, and giving me tips to help me get comfortable with the guitar. Lastly before I left with the bass I had come to like the owner, Dave I think, did an inspection on the bass which included fixing/replacing several parts and the put new strings on for free. Definitely the best music store in the Prescott area from my experience.
Went there with a friend.
I stopped by Prescott Valley Music looking for someone to repair my flute. Even though they specialize in guitar repair, he fixed my flute within minutes at no charge. I will definitely go back with my guitar needs.
Don’t buy vinyl from them
Sadly, and most regrettably, I must report that Russell, the proprietor of PVM, used his prior good business standing to consign, endorse, solicit, directly accept partial payment for, a fraudulently, utterly misrepresented $3k instrument, that is so INTENTIONALLY damaged (a 40” gong, sawn into THREE parts, then poorly soldered back together) that it is basically rendered useless as a musical instrument. He also personally/professionally arranged for its delivery and attested to the instrument’s ‘excellent’ condition (all in email and voicemails, still retained as evidence).
Initially responsive, and seemingly aghast, he and the seller he worked with, and as agent for, now decline to correspond or address this, each saying neither or the other is responsible.
A $3k scam?????
BEWARE!!
I think all they sell is USED. Even patch cords. 🙁 Totally disgusting and disappointed.
Went in to see what they had in banjos today. Had a great vintage one in nice condition. Price was sweet, got some strings, bag and picks. Chis and John both were great and helpful. Noticed everything was reasonably priced and had tons of instruments To look at. Glad to support a local business. Will be back for sure.
Thanks guys.
Dana
I just have to say John is an awesome guy. I have been a customer for years and he’s always been
there in a pinch. I had a bad cord and need a new one so I could produce some music tonight. Called John up. He said call when I get there and he’ll meet me outside. Called, met outside and got the cord I needed. Great customer service. Thanks John. Keep it up. I’ll be back.
Great place. Great people!
wouldn’t give it even one star! I just went in to grab some guitar strings and was never once acknowledged the whole time I was there. Not even a greeting. needless to say I walked out. Not sure what the deal is in this town but I have yet to encounter any sort of professionalism with the businesses here!!!
Low quality gear that is way over priced.

Awesome place and really cool owners!! They have quality goods!
A unique boutique/guitar store with helpful, curtious and knowledgeable owners.
They had a tuner/pedal I was looking for at a great price, in & out, done.
Awesome!!
9. Gray Dog Music
Address: 231 N Cortez St, Prescott, AZ 86301 , Williamson , Arizona , United States
Very helpful and kind staff! I went to purchase a bass case as a gift , knowing nothing about cases or the instrument . The staff helped me find the correct case and was very patient when I was trying to describe what kind of bass I needed the case for . The gift was a hit and I am very thankful to have a local friendly business in town to help with future presents.
It was an interesting store. I went in with my husband. I don’t play guitar.
Great experience, they made us a great deal on a vintage 1950’s banjo for my daughter, they even had the original case and they threw in some picks too. Will go back for sure, thanks Grey Dog!
Owner operator was extremely helpful to blind customer I was chauffeuring
Its a nice store really small some prices are expensive but overall good store nice customer service
It’s a nice store with a fun selection in a variety of price ranges but I wanted to buy a guitar and no one would talk to me, even when I stood at the register for a few minutes or asked for help I was ignored. I ended up going elsewhere.
It’s a nice store. But they only sell guitars and related supplies. The pedal selection was weak if I was looking for pedals I would go online. Pretty much zero music scene in Prescott anymore. They cater to trendoids in my opinion. The selection was a huge bummer for me nothing but acoustic guitars.
Gray Dog music is only good for when you need something in an emergency, otherwise there’s no point is paying those prices. Prices that you only realize are so high when you get all the way to the register since almost nothing in the store has a clearly marked price on it. You have to individually inquire for every item… Even there used equipment was priced similarly to buying it brand new elsewhere. To top it off the gentleman working the counter actually got short with me because I kept having to ask what all there stuff cost. Horrible experience would not recommend to my worst enemy.
Parking: The parking is the ONLY good thing about Grey Dog Music.
10. Daniel’s Guitar And Coin Shop
Address: 605 White Spar Rd, Prescott, AZ 86303 , Williamson , Arizona , United States
Dropped my guitar while playing and it landed on the cable plugged into the jack which bent both the cable and the receptacle inside the guitar. Figuring I’d have to drop it off for a couple of days, made due for worship service at church to take it in Monday. To my much appreciated surprise, Daniel fixed it in 10 minutes and at a great price. As his slogan says, “he’s my guitar guy” from now on.
Highly recommend.
Great job on setting up my acoustics
My “go-to” for all my guitar needs. Fixed a couple of my guitars. I’ve sold some there and bought some there. Friendly and knowledgeable…fair pricing…
11. Chris Fleming Guitars
Address: 227 N Cortez St, Prescott, AZ 86301 , Williamson , Arizona , United States
Top notch work! Knows his guitars, cares about yours as if it was his, and stands by his work. His passion is evident. Great guitar shop!
Chris setup two guitars for me, both had some issues that I felt needed attention. After picking them up and playing with them I could tell instantly that Chris had performed some black magic that turned my guitars into absolutely beautiful feeling and sounding instruments. Chris is also a tally cool guy, I would highly suggest his shop for all guitar repairs. I know my friends and I will bring ours here.
Great service – I took my new Fender bass in for a setup – Chris saw it didn’t need much – adjusted the neck and that was it – I was out the door with it. This is my first bass – it now plays so much better.

Robert did some work on 2 stratocasters (setup, some fret work and rewiring). I was very pleased with the work, communications and schedule. Cost was reasonable. I would use R&R again.
Rob was very thorough and made my Squire a sweet working guitar. I can finally play it with confidence as before it was worthless. I’d recommend him and use him again in the future with my other guitars. Thanks Rob!
14. Trax Records

Absolutely love this store! Always find great finds at good prices. Plus, he is always very friendly and accommodating. We order newer vinyl here as well.
I like how they have used records
Friendly service, an INCREDIBLE selection, great prices, homey atmosphere…..I couldn’t leave the store!!!!!! SO many great albums! My favorite record store!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cute record store! Got some great deals on used records, but some are priced like new despite being in less-than-ideal condition. Still a goldmine, regardless.
Guess I drove past it , never been there .
Nice shop to find used and new vinyl. Big inventory for a small shop. Only place in area selling vinyl.
First time going, the open sign was on, hours correctly displayed, but the door was locked. The store keeper looked at me then back to his/her computer. No wave, no acknowledgement. I waited for a couple minutes and then called the number. I was quickly greeted with a “”Hello” is not available leave your message at the tone.” Really? End my call AND your answering machine message is “Hello?” I just wanted to buy some damn vinyls. Thanks for wasting my time. Edit: I live 30 minutes away, so hopefully the time I take a trip, the store will be ready to take my money, or atleast let me browse… great first impression…
Not very friendly
Why are u closed on weekend’s??? 🙁

Steven was incredible to work with, extremely instrumental in helping my mix achieve it’s full potential. He is dedicated and motivated and willing to take on any project he is given and that say a lot about him. I come from a metal background and listened to his mixes prior to talking to him about my music and I loved what he had done so I knew I had to see if he would be willing to work with what I had. Indeed he was willing to work with me and my genre and help it be so much more than I thought I could have in a track. He was extremely professional and from the get go told me as the process went on, if I needed changes or I had ideas to add he took them in and tailored it to still be “my track.” That’s the biggest thing that stands out to me as well working with him, he truly loves to do this and loves the craft but loves to have the artist involved throughout the process and will tailor the things you would like to have going on in your track. I could not be happier with my finished product and the service provided and I will look forward to working with him more in the future and making sure people know about how much this man truly loves what he does and loves the music.
Steven mixed and mastered a single for my band Came to Conquer. This was my first experience working with him but our bass player has known him for a long time. Even though we were States apart, he interacted with us enough and kept us involved to where I couldn’t fee the distance. He set up a google drive for us to share files and information, he had plenty of documents with instructions on how to share the right files with him. He did really well with our recommended tweaks to the sound of the song, he did some synth work for us that was great. He was patient, positive, and genuinely excited to do the work. Plus the 808’s BANGED. The whole song ended up slappin. 10/10 would recommend, our music is on the heavy side but I have confidence he can work with any genre you throw at him, and I know 100% he will learn and adapt how to if he can’t. He’s moving to Arizona soon and we cannot wait to be able to work more closely with him on our future work!!!

The gentleman was nice enough to recondition my violin’s bridge instead of trying to pitch me a new one. Also had a couple good tips for violin practice. I’ll be headed back to purchase a new violin bow here before too long.
Daniel does awsome work, wouldn’t take my guitars anywhere else.
Really Great.. we got a little bit of mixed up regarding the price but my guitar plays like butter again.. hahaha thank you Mercy guitar
I cannot recommend this shop.
I had brought in my Strat Ultra which I hadn’t played for 10 years to be cleaned up; the fretboard, frets, and hardware. I could have done it myself but thought I would save some time by taking it to the “experts”. They offered to put on a new set of strings as well.
When I picked up my guitar a day later, the fretboard and frets had not been cleaned very well and the other pieces of hardware had not been touched at all (there was some light oxidization which I had wanted to be cleaned off) (pictured).
The strings had been put on incorrectly over the top of the LSR nut (pictured).
Overall the work was lazy, sloppy, and in the case of the strings, completely amateur. This is not what you want when you drop off an expensive guitar to be worked on.
I had to return to the shop to ask for a full refund, which I received.
