Great customer service! Made my teenage beginner guitar player very happy for fixing her string.!
The store and staff are fantastic! Jerry & Donnie were friendly, knowledgeable and patient. Staff puts you at ease, very happy with my new guitar / purchase. Would absolutely recommend this guitar & drum shop to anyone!
Great selection and friendly staff. A little hard to compete with big box store prices but would still give my business to a great local shop.
Adjusted my guitar, tightened everything down, fixed my tone knob cracking sound, and gave me a quote all for free. The nicest and realest people in the AZ guitar business you will meet. Planning to come again soon!
Te ven como si te fueras a robar algo , bueno yo tuve esa experiencia
3. Zia Records (Bethany Home – Phoenix)
Address: 6135 N 35th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85017 , Alhambra , Arizona , United States
This place has all the good movies and video games
I have always loved zia that’s my go to spot when i can find what i want in big stores. I prices are awesome. The ppl are fantastic.
I love this Zia location. I make sure to visit it at least twice a year. Great selection of music. I hope to branch out to see what movies and books they have.
1st time their sold a guitar
Employees were not the least bit helpful. Would have likely purchased more if I could have found what I was looking for. Also parking lot security was inadequate and it is a BAD neighborhood. I was panhandled by an angry drunk while security watched from across the lot in the shade.
I was always curious about record sales there.
It truly is sad when such a great idea for a store is completely wasted by employees that totally (due to a lack of a better term) SUCK. First thing I noticed is service with a smile is WAY to much to ask for. The best they can do is service with a sigh or an eye roll. Then, as if that isn’t bad enough, they are not helpful or informative. I asked where something might be and they literally said “um… I’m not sure, maybe twords the back or somthing.” After looking for it for 30 mins I was eventually informed by a customer that “they don’t sell those here”. Just a bad experience all together. I would like to say it was just a bad day at zia but unfortunately that seems to be the ongoing theme around there every time i force myself to enter that store. You guys need to take lessons from bookmans. I won’t be going back to 19th Ave and camelback zia records ever again. GOOD LUCK…
Amateur hour here .junky piles of used up gear . attitude employees this place is A non professional joke
Used to love comming here. NOT anymore. The governor already lifted the mask mandate, I already had the virus, and i cant come in without a mask on. I just recently had surgery in my throat and am unable to wear a mask. I offered to improvise wearing a face shield and the manager wouldn’t have it. I’ve been comming here since this place since it was on indian school. Its a shame how people are now being treated. I hate to say this but even after they stop being irrational about the masks I’m probably never going to come back here, thats how poorly i was received. Instead of comming here every weekend I’ll have to goto Bookmans from now on. Goto another location people, this place isnt what it used to be. old man rent-a-cop at the entrance was a total jerk with zero people skills on top of everything.
4. Central Music
Address: 5038 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85012 , Alhambra , Arizona , United States
They guys in there were super helpful and tuned my violin in just a couple minutes. The store is cool and I feel like I could spend a lot of time there but we were in a bit of a hurry.
Nice shop and the staff was friendly
Great selection of sheet music
Nice store. Mostly literature, less instruments, but good selection of accessories. Will definately be back for more!
Nice staff
They didn’t help me they said I had to make 4 other drives to get it
CentralMusic purchase policy of NO REFUNDS NO RETURNS: bought a gig bag/very nice. Also bought, and am now stuck with, Kremona KNG classical guitar pickup: rubber on the plug end is brittle/cracking. I tape-wrapped it BECAUSE NO REFUNDS/NO RETURNS. However, I do apologize to you, Central Music, because I should have examined that pickup, should have said “rubber boot has breaks” or something to that effect. But I bought it the day before my wife’s funeral service where I was scheduled to play for a bit. So, I was a little pressed for time, grieving My Beautiful Wife’s passing, not thinking before I posted my comments about Central Music. So, I am sorry if I sounded rude, because that’s not who I am. On the bright side, your shop was open, item was available, product does work, and I wish I could read music better because you have lots of sheet music available and other gear for sale.
No tiene variedad de cuerdas,no ve de guitarras de calidad.
5. Precision Guitar
Address: 4442 N 7th Ave #6, Phoenix, AZ 85013 , Alhambra , Arizona , United States
Jim’s done real good work for me in the past on some other guitars of mine. I trust him. I’ll get back with my rave reviews when he’s done.
Jim went above and beyond to fix my 90s Danelectro Hodad bass potentiometer. They are basically non existent and he found on, installed it and set up my bass. Rates are reasonable and you can’t rush perfection.
Great guys and great service
He had the item I was looking for.
This place is a good place for quality service
Great Lutheir, slow on service. No show room or walking room. Great for buying parts.
Mmeswa
Messaged these guys a while ago about a custom pickup for my Strat, initially had pretty fast and regular responses asking about the specifics. Then went about a week with no response, so I asked for an update, nothing. After a few more days I said I was taking my business elsewhere, and IMMEDIATELY received a multi paragraph copy-paste response about how I’m impatient, the kind of person to cancel my order and leave bad reviews… well, you reap what you sow buddy. I told them it doesn’t matter how good your product is when your customer service is nonexistent, and they told me I was never a customer.
Don’t waste your time. This business is horribly managed.
It is always awesome.Ive personally known Jim for 20 years he is always perfesional way fair priced unlike the big competitor no names mentioned I bought a MARSHALL 100 watt half stack from him for $350.00 and he threw a set of brand new in the box castors for buying it his repair work is top notch and fair priced he doesn’t lye he’s very noligable in any form of music equipment or just music local or anybody he plays in three local bands as well go see JIM with all and any guitar issues

me podrias decir si tienes los burros o boces para un honner corona II de mi mayor? y cuanto cuestan?
I called to ask some questions about a vintage accordion and spike with Dion. Although the accordion was not something that the store was looking for he was very knowledgeable about accordions in general and had no problem staying on the phone with me to discuss the accordion that I had in front of me piece by piece. I recommend this store and Dion to anyone looking for a knowledgeable staff in vintage and new musical instruments. Thank you for your help.
Great advice and direction for artists starting out.
Very helpful the information what’s good
The perfectly imperfect music store with a hometown feel.
Was looking for a decent music store but this is not it. The place is dirty, and only carries used gear. The selection was very disappointing. Look elsewhere
literally 30 minutes b4 it was supposed to close me my mom and friend were trying to get in it was closed and we were looking in it was dirty that didn’t bother me it was just the fact there were no employees there 30 before close hours meaning it wasn’t we had just missed it meaning they had closed before hand
Store hours say 10 til 6 M thru S but they don’t follow them…..went by at 230 and no one showed up…..zero stars if I could

Same as it always has been.. Can play loud 24 hrs a day..
Great recording studio
This place is a staple in the music community for lock-out rehearsal studios. I have been in and out of spots here for almost 20 years. It serves a good purpose. Just wish the A/C was icy cold. Musicians get it. Prices have gone up quite a bit too.

9. Phoenix Dream Center Studios
Address: 3210 Grand Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85017 , Alhambra , Arizona , United States
I brought my vintage 1980’s Peavy T40, in for my yearly service….40 years late. I thought I should get a new ax, with how badly damaged it is..
The dude behind the counter assured me they could fix it like new.
These guys are awesome, rewired, replaced in/out phase switch, pickup switch. Even fixed the pickup guard and the pickup, which I thought was toast.Set the string clearance better than when I bought.
YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!
P.s.
To the dweebs saying negative things, ask yourself would you lend $1000 to a non serious customer, for 5 minutes. And in today’s society with gun toting wussies, you act like you won’t be apprehensive? The dudes been there for alooong
time for a reason. And was very help explaining why my recordings were sound to muddy/mid range. Owners cool, and staff rocks Boogie Music is the best, better the whorporate box stores.
I have been working with Boogie Music/Drum Alley for 6 years now. They have tremendous support for musicians and educators in the Valley who have reasonable expectations of prices and services. They have in many cases gone out of their way to help me get the job done for my program. They will special order anything you ask for. Their rental instruments are in good repair and tend to be better then I can afford to provide students when compared to school instruments. Their luthier (string repair technician) completely rebuilt one of my orchestra basses to better than it’s previous playing condition. I highly recommend this shop for anyone.
It was again a very nice experience. My wife’s guitar needed new strings. Was completed on the spot. Perfect service. The guys in the shop know their stuff and do it right the first time!! Our go-to place!
They are very helpful and answer my questions about learning how to play the guitar.
I got my first drum set from Boogie 20 years ago. They’ve been in business a long time! They have competitive pricing and a pretty good selection of great. I would suggest Boogie music over one of the larger chain music stores because of their competitive pricing, in-depth knowledge of their products, and quality customer server.
They have a nice selection for a small place. Fair prices too!
IDIOTS
First time going to the store and was honestly excited to buy a ukelele and as I walked in me and my friends were rudely approached by a lady who practically shoved us out the door and told us we needed a mask and only one person at a time even though she herself was not wearing one. As I exited I informed her that there was no sigh on the door stating any of this and it would be a good idea to place one up. I walked to my car got my mask and walked back to the store to find it locked I stood outside for a few minutes and was disappointed to not even have an employee tell me to please wait for further assistance. Horrible customer service I totally get what’s going on and I’m happy to wear my mask but please plan your reopening better.
The person at the store followed me around the store the entire time and was super critical on how I played the guitars (which was not abusive or disrespectful). Made me not feel welcome or wanted. I would buy from anywhere else. Wish this was not true, I love little music stores.
12. New Season Records
Address: 3522 W McDowell Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85009 , Alhambra , Arizona , United States
If you go, ask for Stren! He is very honest and looks after your needs. I have become Sam Ash faithful because of him. If they don’t have it, he will go out of his way to get it for you 🙂
I went here looking to finally buy a drum set designed exactly how I wanted it. The staff were extremely helpful and although they didn’t have everything in exactly the configuration and look I was going for they went above and beyond to get as close as possible. I left there extremely happy. I ended up spending much less than I expected, and am in love with my set.
They carry most of what I want or need in store. At least for the small things. I still wish more stores in general would have more seven string parts on hand. But I understand it’s not the “norm” or what the majority of people have.
We love coming into the store, the boys went into the room with the drums. While I stayed out and talked with the sales guy, we had to buy a drum throne. Found a really nice one.
Sam was great to deal with.
I only gave a four star review because the staff was short handed and it took a lot of time to make the transaction.
Don’t hate it hate guitar center
Out of everything. Inattentive associates. I wasn’t going to post a review but you asked
If I could give 0 stars, I would. Staff is very rude. I complained to the manager, who lied regarding staffs behavior when speaking to me. I have never been treated so rudely in any store. They lost a customer for life.
14. Guitar Center
Address: 2750 W Peoria Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85029 , Alhambra , Arizona , United States
Huge selection of all things musical. Great friendly service. They price match.
Awesome service an people bought a bass amp….
I have to say this is best music store in the valley. Spend a lot of money and you get treated like a King when ever you come back. Other than that great customer service, great sales, they might even drop 80% of the taxes if its a big purchase!
good guitars, but not always set up to a playable point. The other day I walked in to test some guitars that I was interested in. I tried 3 acoustics, and none of them could play past the 7th fret. I found an electric that I thought would sound great, but that got even worse. And then I picked up another electric that I was very interested in getting in the future. The electronics were damaged and the bridge pickup was cutting out. If I walk into a guitar shop, and the guitar I want to buy doesn’t work, then I can’t buy it. I believe that guitar center could be better by keeping the insttuments in better shape. They would sell a lot more guitars.
Lots to see, lots to play, lots to do all people, lots of ages, male, female, big, small, someting for everbody is what I’m saying prices are great, sales even…..also the staff is very friendly and so helpfull , Steven helped ys out today…we are even going back for more in a few days…go check it out if ya like music
Good selection of acoustic and electric guitar strings
NO TIENEN GUITARRAS CLASICAS MARCA YAMAHA, NI FENDER, NI RODRIGUEZ, SOLO HECHAS EN CHINA.
There is no way to contact this store to make a change to your music lesson schedule. No, they don’t answer the phone. No email exists. You have to physically go to the store, where the employees are outnumbered 6-1 by customers… or I should say, potential customers. When you get the service of an employee, they are nice and knowledgeable, but it just takes too much effort, time, and expense in what should be a simple, on-line schedule change.
This place is so horrible at customer service.I am requesting a refund for my daughters lessons. I paid and they haven’t started her yet. Someone was supposed to call me back on Wednesday and eveytime I try to call back I get the run around..
17. Stinkweeds Record Store
Address: 12 W Camelback Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85013 , Alhambra , Arizona , United States
Friendly knowledgeable staff who are always ready to help. Small size shop means there is a digestible selection of quality records with new and used items added constantly. Small staff also means they’re aware of what’s in the shop and can help you find what you are looking for. Worth a stop for sure!
One of the very best record shops in PHX. Always have a great selection, staff is awesome, and I always find something unexpected and awesome when I stop in.
If you are a Hard Core record person this place is for you !!!
I like how organized the store is and the speed at which orders come in when placed but the staff has never been overly friendly on any visit. They make me feel like I’m bothering them when I have questions.
Local Phoenix shop & good used record selections to choose from. They also sell audio equipment. Their over all selection is limited to my liking, does not mean I haven’t found what I was looking for when it was in the store. Just know what you are looking for & I think your experience will be brighter here.
buy more records. forget about the economy, you have to put more out there to get more in return. not only that, i would come down there more often. punk rules!!!
Parking very hard to find!
18. Sonoran Luthier Worx, aka Sonoran Guitar
Address: There are two homes on the property. I am, The back house, 41 W Vogel Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85021 , Alhambra , Arizona , United States
I had taken my Epiphone Les Paul to Chuck to get the nut replaced with the factory one chipped on low E. Chuck had put a bone nut on, adjusted action, intonation and new strings on. Had the guitar back the next day and for very reasonable price. Will plan on returning with future upgrades and repairs.
Chuck is a nice guy. He takes pride in his work, and knows a lot about guitars. Currently working on a Martin with many issues. Chuck to the rescue!
First of all, there is such a superb energy coming from this place. I hated to leave when the work was done. Chuck took a little guitar I had that was pretty much unusable and rebuilt it from the ground up — in an afternoon. He helped me to select the new components, and involved me in the whole process. And now I have an instrument I treasure.
For background, the guitar had been unusable from the day I got it. I had a luthier in Seattle work on it a few times, including a rewire, and it was still terrible. (That work also rendered the guitar unreturnable.) The only reason I brought it down to Phoenix with me was that I knew I wouldn’t worry about something happening to it in on the trip in the baking car. But it wasn’t fun to play and no amount of tweaking was helping the sound. I even bought a new amp: nope.
I asked Chuck before we pulled the trigger on the new components if it was even worth fixing. He is a very straightforward guy, no hype at all, but he knew he could dial it in and make it scream. And he absolutely delivered way more than I expected. I”m going to have to take it with me every time I leave the car because I love this thing now. This work was such a gift, Chuck. Thank you so much.
Bottom line: I will make the trek or ship to Phoenix for anything but the most minor work on my instruments in the future. I know I’m lucky to have found an artisan of this caliber who is kind enough to enjoy helping people. And maybe someday I’ll be able to commission one of his beautiful custom instruments.
You’ve arrived. Entrust your beloved instrument to this great artist, damaged piece or envisioned dream, you’re in skilled hands and heart; and that’s what it takes to be here at his level. “Why then, 4/5 you ask?” We can all improve, no matter the relative level you’re found. You won’t find better to work with, consider your search for the best Luthier in the Valley over. Bob D
