Ordered a Small Rodent from DadShoeGazers and loved it so much that I ordered a second pedal, Flying pig. Couldn’t be more happy with my purchase. Would strongly recommend.

Address: 280 N Willow Dr, Wasilla, AK 99654 , Big Lake , Alaska , United States
Took an old 12 string in to get repaired found out it was going to cost more than buying a new one so yay I get a new Fender
Very helpful and kind staff!
Great service, they know their stuff. Friendly professional service.
This store is packed full with musical items.
Great customer service, helped me find exactly what I was looking for
Awesome
These Guys has absolutely no clue about what they’re selling/doing.
Better drive 100 miles more instead dealing with these non professional “sellers??????”
Keep you money don’t buy here
Purchased a guitar and amp with all of the accessories for a new player. Upon picking up the guitar, the amp I picked out was sold, and another amp was put on the table with no explanation of where the other amp was. The amp was a decent brand, so I didn’t say anything, and the amp was also new. After using the amp, I had significant issues that I had to troubleshoot. Nothing worked. I returned them amp and explained what I had done to troubleshoot, and they did not want to look at it. I asked for the original amp I picked out, and the staff became angry and aggressive. I attempted to calm things down and solve the issue, but then they gave me the amp that I had originally played and asked me to leave. I will never return.
4. Northshore Pawn & Thrift
Address: 4524 S Big Lake Rd, Big Lake, AK 99623 , Big Lake , Alaska , United States
We go here all the time. If we need a tool, we definitely check here first. Chris has fair prices, and is very honest. If an item has an issue, the tag is clearly labeled with the problem and usually how much $ to fix yourself. I have bought DVDs, games, household items and tools, and never felt I paid too much. It is THE Go-To store in Big Lake.
Very nice guy
great friendly guy there. just a neat place!!
The guy that works there is very friendly and helpful
If you are looking for tools or DVDs check this place out.
Great selection, okay to high prices. But it REAKS of cigarette smoke. Absolutely REAKS!!!! If you buy anything from leather, furs, or clothing be forewarned, it will be smoked stained.

6. Mammoth Music
Address: 500 E 5th Ave, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Big Lake , Alaska , United States
I am a frequent customer and I really appreciate the knowledgeable, helpful sales people. It’s great to have people who know what they are talking about and you can’t beat their prices.
Top notch gear at great Alaska prices.
The folks here are very nice and a great example of customer service. They greeted us right away when we walked in and answered all of our questions. They made a point to thank us on our way out even though we ended up not purchasing an item. It is rare to find service that is so genuinely friendly!
Good selection, fair prices, knowledgeable staff. There is no better place in Anchorage for guitar and drum gear.
Cool folks that work there, have most everything a musician could need in a pinch. Lower rating due to little support of Pearl Drums.
Great music store with an excellent selection of guitars and sound equipment.
Terrible customer service. Unfriendly staff. Kind of a bummer. Good pedal selection though.
I went in looking for a guitar and asked a guy if I could check out the guitars in the humidity controlled room. His response was “You don’t want to go in there, there isn’t a guitar for less than a grand in there.”
I bought a $1000 acoustic that came with a free adjustment, cleaning and strings. I took the guitar in a year later and had to pay for strings. They said it’d be done early next week on Friday. I went in 2 weeks later and they hadn’t touched it. They said it could be up to a month to honor the free cleaning they promised. I just left with my strings and cleaned it myself.
Nothing but problems. Been going to this place strings and such for 16 years now, but I would say I’m officially done. Would prefer to buy local but…
Staff is unpleasant unless they think you will be spending lots of money. Not knowledgeable. Not courteous. The only thing this place has going for it is a lack of competition.
7. Alaska House of Yamaha
Address: 2563 Rosalie Ct, Big Lake, AK 99652 , Big Lake , Alaska , United States
Excellent customer service. Their kindness with any questions that you have. Took my 2013 YFZ 450 down there because the cable snapped and the
clutch fork might need to be repaired maybe and they were able to explain everything to me and I was able to understand. I’m glad I took my four-wheeler there to get fixed because I can count on them to do a good job. And if the bill is too high for me to pay in full I asked if I can make payments as long as they hold on to the 4wheeler
and I make payments and get it paid off they’ll work with me.
Awesone sales and service!
Amazing customer service! Originally shopped for a new 4 seat however deciding a Viking would be the best choice for our family but unfortunately they were out of stock. Ryan answered our substantial amount of questions. Got lucky and found a well maintained loaded out used Viking and contacted Ryan who set us up with a buyers inspection at their shop. They did a thorough and timely job checking it out in time to snatch it off the market. Ryan treated us as if we bought it directly from him and spent a great deal of time walking us (who are new to SXS) through the ins and outs of the machine including the specific mechanical recommendations and safety features.
We will be taking our machine back for all our maintenance needs and I would not hesitate to recommend them to my friends.
They disassembled the entire front end of my machine without my permission to “diagnose” a bent piece of metal on my winch mount that was visible and I had told them about. They then refused to put it back together. Thanks from a disabled veteran
355 miles on a 2016 yxz 1000r bad cluch they did not fix it still under warranty !!!!!! I’ll go with polaris next time.
These guys are awesome! Very knowledgeable and patient!
Friendly and helpful staff great variety of instruments.enjoyable atmosphere for shopping.
Staff have always been very helpful and kind when we’ve dropped in. I recommend Horn Doctor for renting an instrument for a 6th grader.
Lots of horns and guitars
Went to a string event very nice.
Hello review readers, I bought a pitch pipe from here, only to get home and learn that it was defective. Like many of us up here, we do not live in the Anchorage area, thus my visits to Anchorage are saved for when there are enough things to take care of to justify the drive into town. Needless to say I did not get the pitch pipe tested at home and back in Anchorage within 7 days. This, I just learned, is the return policy for The Horn Doctor. Therefore, when I recently went into the store, told them of the defect, they tested the “D” on the piano, agreed it was not a “D” and responded, it’s outside the 7 day return window, there’s nothing we can do. There is something I can do…. warn others so that we can be careful what we buy here, as they are not willing to stand behind the products they sell.
I agree with the previous review, went to horn doctor, they quoted me $250-500 for my sax to be repaired. Took it to Music Man, $50 and a week later, the sax sings. How does this shop justify $250-$500 when another can do fix it for $50 blows my mind.
10. Alaska School of Music
Address: 11432 Business Blvd #20, Eagle River, AK 99577 , Big Lake , Alaska , United States
We love our piano teacher, what great lessons so far!
I’m learning guitar and piano here and am really enjoying it!
I highly recommended this school! My son is taking classes here, we love his teacher and my son is always excited about every class even that he is 4 years old he is always ready to practice at home to show us what he is learning. Mr David is the owner and Ms Jessy is my son’s teacher, they are very professional, they are always ready to answer you any question and they are so helpful. I’m thankful for this school, we love it.
11. Anchorage Guitar Central
Address: 1410 Hyder St unit a, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Big Lake , Alaska , United States
Petr added the guitar side to his violin shop. You can get anything you need here. It’s great!
Nice store. Knowledgeable staff
Great knowlegable staff, beautiful guitars and instruments. A house of worship for the musically inclined.
DO NOT trust these guys. I paid $250. For a small guitar for my son to learn to play. After getting home and put new strings on it they sold me it exposed a huge crack at the box and neck. I called them she said it was used so as is…expensive lesson!
NEVER AGAIN GUITAR CENTER.
12. Guitar Center
Address: 2880 Seward Hwy, Anchorage, AK 99503 , Big Lake , Alaska , United States
The employees here really know their stuff. Love it
My favorite place to shop and a great place to be. A wide selection of acoustic and electric guitars, basses, keyboards, drums, interfaces, and microphones.
My boyfriend like to play the bass
Wish we got free shipping to store.
Wowzah lots to look at! And just as much to play with! Pretty awesome store, the staff not very helpful. My daughter and i walked around for about an hr and not once was i approached or greeted. Which has its upside, i hate be harasses, but my daughter was there to make a purchase.
Guitar Center has a lot of things to buy and look at, but not one knowledgeable person to help you make the right purchase. I’ve taken bad advice multiple times and have had to return things multiples times before getting the proper item.
Gotta give a shout out to the guys that work here. Came in one day to buy an electric drumset and everyone was super helpful with navigating options, pricing, shipping. Came in the next day for spare guitar parts and the repair guy hooked me up with a nut and washer that I was missing. These guys are the best – look forward to shopping here for all my musical needs.
Had to revise review down to 3 stars. While the staff was helpful on initial sale, the drumset still hasn’t been shipped a full month later and no one can give me an estimate of when it will be shipped. Frustrated to spend this much money and have no idea when I’ll receive the product.
Revising further down to 1 star. Been one full month and still no sign of drumset. Every time I call, I get a different “promise” ship date with no seems to know if or when the set will actually ship. Pretty disappointing experience overall for an expensive product.
Every time I call this location, the employee on the phone always has an attitude. It’s as if they talk down to you or if you don’t know what you’re talking about when asking a simple question. One of them was even a manager. That type of customer service is poor. I highly recommend going to a local shop instead; they’re much more friendly. Only reason why this review isn’t 1 star is because one employee was actually helpful and professional on the phone. I would only go here for emergency situations or last minute purchases.
13. Petr’s Violin Shop & Guitar Central
Address: 1408 Hyder St Unit B, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Big Lake , Alaska , United States
This is a great shop, the staff was very friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of violins and guitars and I was able to buy my first violin for a very good price and my sister was also able to get a ukulele. I highly recommend this store.
They have no Rickenbacker so they can’t have 5 stars. Otherwise an excellent selection& prices but I felt like the sales person was rather hipster / superior. Though I would love to go back and browse some more I felt like I was a freeloader for not immediately dropping +$500 on an instrument. So shoot me. My philosophy is that browsers become buyers, but I am apparently wrong. I got a good recommendation from them for a tech to fix my ailing bass amp, so my trip there did actually yield commercial transactions, in the end. Good prices, good inventory, good community, goodish staff.
Best place
At least its not a viola
Nice selection of stringed instruments.
Young woman at front counter helpful, smiled, and made eye contact.
Guitar room guy not engaging or helpful, more interested in his phone than engaging with me.
Every guitar has a “do not handle” sign with a sign that there is a 5 minute limit on handling a guitar. No place to sit and try an instrument.
Other staff did not acknowledge me at all.
I was the only customer at the time.
I would maybe go back if I needed something but the customer service was absent at the time of my visit.
Went to this shop while visiting family in Anchorage…I’m from Ohio where there is plenty music shops….This is the only store I have ever visited where they didn’t want you to try one of there electrics without assistance…and they were Mexican guitars not even USA models….so I took my business to Mammoth in Anchorage, there I was free to try guitars. Employees were nice, but when I wanna guitar…give me space and let me try without supervision. Thanks Mammoth!
Went to them and they told me the cello I got from amazon was no good, wanted to sell me a 1100 cello. Went to horn doc and it was fixed.
14. Alaska All Around Pawn
Address: 10927 Big Lake Rd, Wasilla, AK 99623 , Big Lake , Alaska , United States
Was welcomed as soon as we walked in. Good selection of items, consignments, pawns and awesome customer service. Was not low balled and was very fair on what I needed. Willing to help you out if your honest and not have an attitude when you don’t get your way. Have recommended to friends and family and the only pawn shop in the valley We will do business with in valley. Thanks for being probably one of the most honest and trustworthy pawn brokers out here not looking to rip off your customers but to help them when they are in a insane time of need! ALLAROUND PAWN ROCKS!!
Helpful friendly service lots of unique and cool stuff, I would recommend checking this place out if you have never been! Very happy with some items I put on consignment. There is something here for everyone
This place is amazing, friendly staff cool stuff decent prices
The people were very nice and helpful and the prices were very fair as far as custom jewelry goes all they would give me for a530.00 pendent was 15 dollars and the auction the maker of it was in at that time the minimum bid was 250 dollars so if you do have something like that I’d suggest the gold exchange in Wasilla next to the chevron station but they are good people great prices and will be treated with respect to your needs

I really like this place, just really good vibes here the people were really nice, really easy to talk to, very informative and there was some really beautiful guitars there as well. I haven’t gotten my guitar repaired there yet but when I do I will definitely review that as well.
Nice little music shop. Friendly owners and a pretty cool selection of guitars.

It’s great grand good
Purple Star killer shattered super good and the Frozen grapes is not worth buying
Mid.
Overpriced
Poorest customer service ever! I’ll take my business else where.
Local shop, over priced with a very small selection. I’ve stopped a few times, because I forgot to stop at my normal spot in town. Good place for in a quick pinch, but I personally prefer my regular shop. Nothing really to write home about.
18. Forge Media
Address: 220 Park Ave, Wasilla, AK 99654 , Big Lake , Alaska , United States
Always go out of their way to help keep me out riding…. Thanks Carl
Big Lake Arctic Cat has quickly become my favorite cat dealership in Alaska! They can be described in three words; honest, fair, and reliable. Every purchase I’ve made with them has been smooth and I will continue to go back for all of my future Cat purchases!
I bought a arctic cat Bearcat last year from them they are very straight forward outfit, had a warranty item they fixed in shop no questions (it may have been my fault as well) Great pricing the air cooled machine worked considerably better than the water cooled we had for running our sled dogs.
No new sleds and not a good feeling that he can get parts . He said he was unsure how long it would take to get parts.
Fine
The family staff the knowledge and willingness to help.
Sunday, showed up at 2:30. They are closed despite the website, door sign and phone, they are closed. Thanks for making me waste my gas. Plus the wasilla store is literally useless.
I got my snowmachine and they broke my plastics and they didn’t even fix it it broke back down in 2 minutes they also denied the fact that they broke the plastics the guy also drove off and didn’t help would not recomend at all
The staff is very nice when you go in and buy a machine, would not come down at all on price. Loved my prowler until it smoked the wet clutch at 200 miles. Not covered under warrentee. Spent 1000.00 to fix at there shop. Now is where they start to go down hill. 300 miles later smoked another wet clutch, I decided to fix it my self they are now starting to get rude when I ask for advice and marked up prices 1000 percent. Would not recommend.
