Dana did a magnificent job restoring Tom’s Guitar [Facebook @Tom’sGuitar302 ] a first edition George Benson hollowbody guitar. George Benson has even played Tom’s guitar which Dana sold to Tom at Dana’s old store in Newark DE
I am so pleased with Dana’s Sound Research! Alterations made to my stock Yamaha bass vastly improved the quality of sound and ease of play.
Both Dana and Ryan were particularly helpful in offering best practices, playing tips, resources, instructors, and music suggestions. Thanks!
3. 1st United Pawn and Loan
Address: 3722 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703 , Claymont , Delaware , United States
Staff was helpful and the prices were great!!!!!!!!
Its a small store but they are really cool dudes they are a awsome they took care of me
Always get fair loans on your items.
Good people very helpful
Delaware Pawn shop is a great place to shop or if needed get a loan on your merchandise . Honest men looking to do good business.
Great place, always have something you want, with a knowledgeable staff that works with you.
Went there they offered me 50 dollars on a brand new in the box item said they looked it up on eBay and it was only going for 150 I looked and it was a used item they were looking at total rip off ,crooks! And it definitely looks like it’s known cause there is hardly anything in the store.
Go to Levy’s on Market St. In Wilmington. I took $700 worth of stuff and got $140. Levy would’ve given me at least $100 more bc of what it was worth, but they were closed. Unfortunately I needed the money by the next morning and it’s the only pawn shop open at 5:20pm on a Friday so with limited options I had to take what I could get. It definitely won’t happen again.
as far as pawn shops go this place is not a good one. They hardly accept any items and when they do its the lowest possible price based off a few ebay sales. you’re better off taking your stuff to a reasonable pawn shop that actually has a decent amount of things for sale.
5. Jam – Music and Memorabilia
Address: The Zeppelin and The Unicorn Antique Shop, 400 Silverside Rd #95, Wilmington, DE 19809 , Claymont , Delaware , United States
This is a nice store however the clerk today was a bit lacxy I think she was tired end of at any rate the last clerk we had was more congenial my bff and I have her a tip
No waiting, nice cashier
Pretty straight forward. What I like most is that they have some premium brands for a great price.
Although the employees there are very nice. The store doesn’t have any organization. The one on Newport Gap Pike is much better.
Great service & good deals
Prices are awesome
Whenever I call to get information about a product and/or price, no one answers. It just rings then hangs up on me… This store is always messy, doesn’t seem to give a flying F about how it looks. I worked at a high-crime, high-volume Family Dollar in WV (the highest shrink volume store in the region & part of the country), and it worked better than this store.
Why is this store still open? Probably better to shut the store down and start over. This is horrible. Claymont deserves better.
disgusting. everything is everywhere, you can’t get by, employees nowhere to be found, and when you do see them their either playing on their phone or not doing their job. they NEED new workers.
7. Dollar General
Address: 2605 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703 , Claymont , Delaware , United States
Todo a un dolar. Excelente atención. Limpio y organizado
Seems to have everything I need at lower prices
They have everything u can thing of in the store the prices are very reasonable and the staff is super kind and generous
Typically like popping in here as it’s convenient and decent prices, but they should update their online hours as it seems they close at 9 now
A brand new store so it was very clean and plenty of parking
Nice. Great staff. Found what l needed
Very poor customer service
The store is VERY JUNKY and the STAFF NEEDS BETTER TRAINING and BETTERS ATTITUDES.. Get the stores in ORDER.. ALL OF THE STORES ARE JUNKY… In my area TRI-STATE MALL, NEW CASTLE AVE, PHILADELPHIA PIKE and WHAT N. MARKET ST. MEEDS MEW MANAGEMENT AND STAFF (NO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS AT ALL) Don’t go to the one in ELSMERE… LETS GET THESE STORES IN ORDER.. AND PHILADELPHIA PIKE MANAGEMENT IS HERRIBLE TOO LIKE N. MARKET ST..
It was crazy
8. Guitar Center
Address: 5141 Brandywine Pkwy, Wilmington, DE 19803 , Claymont , Delaware , United States
Recently picked up a Les paul. Man was very kind dispite my lack in knowledge.
This place is always clean, and well stocked. The only small “complaint” I have is that sometimes not all displays are functioning.
Guitar center is an EMPORIUM of music gear.
I could spend many hours walking around playing with the different products they have on display, and leave feeling completely satisfied, having purchased nothing.
Great selection and helpful employees
Its a cool place it has equipment just like any music store. Id give the staff on a scale of 1-10 a 5. I understand that they have jobs to do and sometimes they’re busier than other times but it would be nice to at least acknowledge the customer instead of having them stand around for 20 mins roaming until you get off of the phone. At least let me know that you know that I’m here and you’ll be with me as soon as you get time, as I said I understand they have a job to do. Im also a paying customer though not looking to take up a lot of time just trying to get in and out. All good though!
Very happy with the service and my purchase.
Was looking to trade in a bass guitar but upon inspection I was told the neck might be twisted or damaged I got the guitar through a trade and it was brand new with wrapping on the pick guard and I’ve come to terms I don’t like it I even told the employee it’s only been played slightly and has never been outside of my home and he then refused to make any kind of deal telling me a mint guitar was damaged I WILL NO LONGER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS STORE WASTE OF TIME!!!!!!!!!!
Staff was very nice and willing to help, bought a $450 guitar along with strings and picks, paid to have it restrung for 20 dollars, asked the guitar tech to wipe it down since i just bought it and it was covered in fingerprints and grime, and the guitar tech acted like i was asking for something crazy and said id need to purchase another service to have it cleaned. Really? Give you almost 500 dollars and they can’t wipe grime and fingerprints off? He took some paper towels and gave it a half hearted wipe, basically just smearing the dirt on it. Definitely a bad way to end to a good visit!
Yeah I bought a fairly expensive guitar here and I ended up fixing it myself after spending well over $500 on the guitar itself. The Input Jack was extremely loose. They need to better inspect the guitars before checkout. It will go a long way for customer service.
9. Jupiter Records
Address: 2200 Marsh Rd, Wilmington, DE 19810 , Claymont , Delaware , United States
Incredible place…. filled with hundreds of thousands of Vinyls…..of all genre and even International selections…both old and new. It’s a real must visit place if one is into Vinyl records. DVD’s also available.
Great selection on vinyls and DVDs. Great prices!
Check it out
emo tapes
I love browsing here. So many choices: cds, records, some cassettes, dvds, etc. I’ve found some great stuff in the dollar section too (K-Tel disco albums! Woo hoo!). Enjoy browsing!
Jupiter is a fine little record store, decent large selection, but a bit disorganized
I just drove 2 hours to visit the store, because Google said it was open until 8:00 p.m. I come here at 7:00 p.m. and the place is closed.
10. Concord Music Company
Address: 2805 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 , Claymont , Delaware , United States
Dude with the long hair and beanie has the best customer service! They got everything you need.
1st timer! And definitely going to return! The best!
My kratom spot!
Both Elfbars I’ve bought there have been less than satisfactory, neither could hold a charge for long.
Sales clerk was very very nice I want it two bags of pipe tobacco but the owner of the shop only stocks what’s on the shelf I would go back if it wasn’t for that I was disappointed.
16. MeJah Books, Inc
Address: 2083 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703 , Claymont , Delaware , United States
Great location for a great bookstore. Perfect for browsing and buying and Ms Em is a wonderful woman. Great space for a book signing as well!
Ms. Em was very gracious with. her time. A treasure. And many of the products were one-of-a kind or hard to find. We’ve could have spent triple the amount of time there! Will definitely return. Thank you for the positive impact to the Delaware valley community.
Very comfortable environment and great book selection their always happy to order books for you that you want
Socially conscience store and supportive of new authors.
Love it
17. McDonald’s
Address: 2702 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703 , Claymont , Delaware , United States
For the 1st time in a long time there was no drive threw line
I’m an UberEATS driver & I don’t usually accept McDonald’s pings. The staff turnover changes every 2 weeks. I especially avoid McDonald’s with the drive through that merge into one lane.
I would say this is the WORST McDonald’s on EARTH! No matter what time of day the employees and managers are always rude and they always mess up something. I guess it’s time for me to stop eating at McDonalds all together, it’s not healthy anyway
Visited the Philadelphia Pike Delaware location today with the person taking my drive through order yelling out unprofessionally and angrily that I cannot upgrade the drink for my kids meal to a smoothie and after a long line wait. I went inside to speak to manager to have my order addressed only to find two other employees (one appearing to be the manager-wearing blue) having an open disagreement. I traveled another 7-10mins or so to the Concord /202 location and had my order filled without questions, reservations and with professionalism . My rating addresses my first encounter.
18. Goodwill
Address: 2701 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703 , Claymont , Delaware , United States
Good deals with fair prices. I’ve been to some goodwill that are VERY expensive, I’m not sure where they come up with their prices, but they definitely aren’t low income , or thrift store prices. But this location is great! Most of the people there are friendly.
I went there to purchase books and was all ways pleased.
Good selection.
I love checking out different goodwills to find clothes, books, DVDs, CDs, board games and just to look.
A typical Goodwill store with plenty of clothes and an assortment of housewares.
I love good will. However I truly believe the Prices are way too High for all donated items. It would benefit the store to have more 75%OFF days in order to get rid of over stock. Try it Goodwill… Ya might like it..
I always shop Philadelphia pike Claymont goodwill . I always had to be good experience . Now there’s a new lady . She said , she is store manager . She is very rude customer dealing . Alliey also does not know about itoms also . I am very disappointed with this lady .
Had donations they refused said they no longer accept. Night stand, table lamps, small plastic drawers. They need to update their website
It sucked you have to wear a mask
19. Music & Arts
Address: 4707 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808 , Claymont , Delaware , United States
My Kids always came to this store for they music instruments, I like because is organizada the customer service help in our looking stuff.
I recomienda this store.
This is great shop having very friendly staffs they answer your all questions you have with patience and with their good knowledge. Here you can buy or rent different musical instruments and different music classes also by great teachers in the area.
I’d say this is the 2nd best store in the chain I’ve been to. Great sheet music selection, particularly heavy on the Eastern European composers for keyboard. I picked up something festive (The Nutcracker) as well as something beautiful (MacDowell pieces). The staff actually seemed to enjoy working there, as well as eachother, which is a rarity in my experience, so kudos for that, give them a raise if you want to keep em, because their talented and surely have other opportunities ahead of them. The one downside is their guitar and bass selection. Alot of the guitars I picked up had mile high action and required alot of tuning per instrument. They also seemed to be highly overpriced in that area. That said, the sheet music was a complete steal 🙂 you pay sticker, which some stores in my experience don’t honor that and charge more. Anyway, keep it up guys!
Nice staff! Nice instruments, some violins, chellos, stingray basses, music courses. Very nice music store
Wonderful store
They only sell small ticket items in store, but they will order whatever you want.
This low rating is not a reflection of the Kirkwood Highway store personnel but rather Music & Arts Corporate and their “customer service”. We have been a customer of the store for years including lessons, instrument purchases and instrument service and repair. Everyone we’ve ever dealt with IN THE STORE has been lovely, helpful and knowledgeable. At the beginning of the summer we signed up for weekly lessons for half of June plus July and August in preparation for marching band season. I cancelled, in store, (on August 13th)our weekly lesson effective end of August and specifically requested that the auto debit be cancelled effective immediately as we had already paid for August. In spite of that we were charged for lessons for the month of September. I called the store immediately and was told they had cancelled the lessons on their end but were experiencing issues with a new company-wide system. They put through a request for a refund that day. After a week I called the store again and told them the money had not been refunded. They assured me it had been reported to corporate and that was all they could do from their end. Today I called the corporate number and experienced the worst possible customer service. The woman was cranky and short with me right off the bat and would only tell me that a refund would take 4 weeks. When I asked why she said, “that’s our policy”. She had not bothered to ask my name, my location or any dates. When I requested confirmation that the refund was in process she reluctantly took my information and treated me like I had interrupted her lunch break. And then, she told me she couldn’t tell me anything, had no idea if my refund request had been made, told me to wait 4 weeks and call back. When I said that wasn’t a good enough answer she told me I’d have to call the store. So, total waste of time, including the 15 minute wait on hold. I did call the store back and though they were apologetic they could not do much as they have no control over the refund process. Kevin, the store manager, took all my info again and said he would email the lesson coordinator and his district manager and would let me know if he had any further information. I understand this has happened to a number of customers which is outrageous. In this day and age how can a large corporation not be able to timely cancel an auto deduction or at least have a system to log refund requests and be able to tell you if the request has been received? Further, why the hell would it take 4 weeks to refund my money? Absolutely unacceptable. I can’t imagine we would deal with Music & Arts again and certainly would not recommend the company which is a shame because the employees and teachers are great. Seriously, who wants to deal with illegitimate automatic deductions from your bank account???For that matter who wants to loan M & A’s $150. (interest free) for a month at a time??? Imagine if you had 2 or 3 students and were out $300-400 for that amount of time?!? Ridiculous!
Poor service and rude employees. Not worth the time, go somewhere else
Terrible service. My girlfriend takes her son here for guitar and the teacher stood them up 5 different times and they didn’t reimburse her for 3 of those 5 classes. There staff told her son not to attend the class on 12/21/18 and his mother called to confirm this and the staff member failed to contact her back and when the teacher showed up to teach the lesson he decided he was not going to refund the lesson. When I say stood them up 5 times I’m not saying he called them 20 minutes before and said hey I can’t make it. I’m talking about them driving 45 minutes away just to find out the guy isn’t even there and failed to tell anyone. Is this good customer service? Is this fair ? You charge people 30 dollars for a half an hour and you don’t even show up?
20. Accent Music Inc
Address: 5810-A, 5810 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808 , Claymont , Delaware , United States
I love this place. I have been buying guitars from accent and accent only. the staff is knowledgable and very helpful with all questions regarding music and instrument appropriatness for kids. Long time customer, I wont go anywhere else.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Nice instrument’s, specially warwick basses. Some good Boss pedals, one guy part of the staff not too nice though. They could do better receiving customers. Closing the doors of the music school on your face doesn’t seem like a charming or effective welcoming strategy.
Played several acoustic by Guild and Takamine. Enjoyed myself.
I’ve had good service at this store. The staff is polite, knowledgeable, and helpful.
Called up with interest of purchasing a 3K-4K guitar they had online. Was willing to buy immediately. They were rude, short, and unorganized and actually acted like they didn’t have time to discuss it). I’m glad I didn’t purchase or move forward. You would think if someone was in the business of selling guitars for a living that a purchase “that large” would take priority over …I don’t know, selling $10 Ernie Ball Strings? or music CD’s.
Claimed they were ESP vendor, yet weren’t on the approved list (this info is available on ESP’s site). Wouldn’t send images of guitar close ups either (as opposed to hard to see online thumbnail). Red flags all point to some questionable practices going on here. Would recommend buyers to look elsewhere, and not take a chance with your $ here – too many fakes online, and sketchy practices – lots of legitimate guitar buying systems online as alternatives. Just because a seller has a web page, doesn’t mean that the purchase is legit . If you are checking reviews before purchase, then I am saving you time, money, and hassle – nothing to see here – move on!
Ordered a bass amp there a month ago and it still has not come in. We were told it would take 7 business days to get here and every week we go back it’s a new story well this week are getting our money back and going to guitar center where they have always told the truth and we have always received our products promptly !!!!!!!! Sorry but the service there is the worst ever!!!!
Dropped off an instrument for repair. Told an estimated 2 weeks. Called after 1 month and could not even get an answer as to if the instrument had even been looked at! There was no one at the store that could even answer a question as the three staff members I spoke to stated they had no idea! Horrible customer service!
