Just went to buy strings for my sons guitar and was treated like part of the family. They are very knowledgeable. Will definitely be back.
Proficient service!
Lots of music! Great locally owned and operated
Prices were high
Repair service is reliable, but prices for band instrument rentals are twice what Playground charges ($99/mo vs. $45/mo. for the cheapest option on my daughter’s french horn), and Art’s does a hard credit pull. Playground is fine with having a credit card on file, no ding on your credit score for a hard pull.
Pretty good people and alot of music stuff
The Dothan Art’s Music location is now officially my LAST stop for instruments or accessories. The last few times that I have been into the store I was met with overpriced items and pompous pretentious attitudes. My last visit remains no exception. Unless I need the item immediately (can’t order online) and no other place in town has the item, I will never set foot back in this place.
My child has had his instrument on the repair shelf at scoggins middle school for 3 weeks (I even called arts) and no one has been there to repair instruments. We are charged extra for insurance through art when financing these instruments. So why are you people not going out and repairing them on Wednesday’s as promised? It’s just a lie to get more money out of the parents. I’d advise everyone to elsewhere and avoid this company if I were you .
Went to get my daughter some things for band went in and stood there for 15 minutes and 3 people were working but not one asked could they help us. One was playing on the phone and the other 2 wouldn’t leave their desk. I’m going to make a suggestion to our school not to use this place for their band any longer.

The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable on a large variety a musical instruments, repair and care of all types of instruments, lessons and products to further your enjoyment and participation in the art of music!
Very Nice Staff and was fast and easy
I’ve known the owner Lance since 2006 and there is no way I would give anything but a good eval. Always wished that I was as positive as him. Anytime I need something from strings to guitars if he hasn’t got it, he’ll get it. Made me ,mad when he moved to Prattville, now I have to drive an extra 5 miles to get some strings. LOL.
Lance and Tracy are nice folks. They have a good selection of strings and accessories. Neat place for obscure instruments.
4. Mikes Music
Address: 2922 Ross Clark Cir, Dothan, AL 36301 , Clio , Alabama , United States
I’ve been at this shop more than once now. The gentleman in there are great. Really friendly and helpful. Really take the time out to answer questions and take care of whatever you need. Decent prices. Relaxed environment. Will be our family’s go- to shop for music stuff.
Great customer service and selection. We highly recommend Mike’s music. We have purchased several items and will be returning.
Will never shop there again. He doesn’t stand behind his product. Brought a brand new keyboard from him and didn’t even have it for 2 months. All of the A#’s/Bb’s went out and he wouldn’t even take a look at it or even offer anything to help fix his shady product. Thought I found a place to get good quality instruments at a reasonable price but definitely was wrong. Now I have to spend more money on a new keyboard. I will never shop at Mike’s Music ever again.
Came back for a second time hoping that it was better than a previous visit which occurred maybe a year ago. Nothing changed! Had a sarcastic attitude and told jokes. This guy has poor customer service. I wouldn’t dare step foot in there again after today.
5. Art’s Music Shop, Inc
Address: 3030 Eastern Blvd, Montgomery, AL 36116 , Clio , Alabama , United States
Knowledgeable staff, more helpful than other stores in the area
Knowledgeable and friendly staff; they are helpful and will take as much time as necessary to help you make the right choice. Service after the sale is phenomenal. These guys really know how to set a guitar up perfectly.
Very professional service all the way around, for not just the professional musician, but for the beginner too. They are there for the budget minded person starting out, and the person that wants the best. Just tell them what your goals and needs are, and they will be better then any other shop nationwide.
Not a happy place , they hardly acknowledge your presence. Put a guitar on layaway and the girl behind the counter was extremely rude when I came in to make a payment, I forgot they charge 15.00 if you want to use a card and I said sounds like it a tax scam . She said I didn’t have to come there, my layaway is Seven hundred dollars, maybe a little respect would go a long way. Last purchase I’ll make with these people.
Update : okay I went back today and my experience was much better.
I definitely over reacted on my last visit, I still feel a little slighted by the girl saying I didn’t have to come there.
That said Art’s is a fine store .
Good place to buy musical instruments.
The level of customer service you receive really depends on who you speak to at the company. Some do not understand customer service while others go above and beyond to help you out.
They really price gouge parents of high school band kids. My daughter needed a clarinet. The salesman convinced me that for $90/month she could have a durable, great sounding, top-of-the-line instrument. Well she got to play it for 1 season because of Covid-19 causing cancellation of most of the events. So basically she got a couple months of usage and I had to pay on the thing for years, amounting to about $4000. Then they offered me $400 to buy back the clarinet that was still in pristine excellent condition. I probably would have taken $1500, but I think they could have offered at least $2000 since they can easily resell the instrument. To add insult to injury they made me pay $50 to ship it back to our house after it took them almost 2 weeks to appraise it at the store 3 hours from here in Mobile because I rejected the offer for $400. If anyone needs a nice wooden clarinet, find me on FB and message me. I’ll give you a much better deal than Art’s.
My daughter gave them all the correct information for her banking and the 3rd month they billed her for overdue payment. When she called to make sure they had the correct information they still refused to take off the late charge when it was evidently no fault of hers. They rip people off!
I use to use capital music, but since capital music went out of business,I had to purchase a music book from Arts.well to make along story short,I purchased a book from arts when they came to our school and was told that it would be about a week or maybe two before we would get it.Well, a full month has gone by and they still had not delivered our books to our school so I called bailey brothers store and asked if they carried Standered of Excellence music books and they said that they did,so I went to Arts and insisted on a refund even though they told me they had it in,because I was thinking to myself that if you had our schools order in then why hasn’t it been delivered. By going to bailys I alsn saved myself $4.00 as well.

Great manager!didn’t know he was a manager until he answered the phone while I was there.acted like one of the regular employes ptetty cool in my book! Still can’t wait for Pensacola to open back up!!!!!
Excellent customer service.
I wish I could pick and grin. But I can only bongo…
Do not send your child to this place, music instructor was fired, ( for unknown reason) and they kept charging while offering no lessons.
They offered low but on a amp but wanted me to buy a snare drum that was to much. They lost out buy not trading even..
While they had what I was looking for there was a rude salesman that felt the need to make rude comments as I and others were entering the store. As there were several employees standing with this person none of them said anything to this salesman. SAD example as a representation. I will be shopping on line so I am not subjected to this type of unprofessionalism.
8. Dollar General
Address: 300 E Main St, Ariton, AL 36311 , Clio , Alabama , United States
Everyone was not only friendly and helpful but extremely knowledgeable too! The person who helped me had a degree in music! (So much more than just a sales clerk.)
Went in for parts to a 100 year old antique baritone. Woman in there named Hannah was awesome and helped me replace several items. Answered all of my questions and was overall awesome. She could probably fix anything that came in that door and I wouldn’t hesitate to go in if you need a repair.
Very helpful and knowledgeable!!
changed to 4 stars because service isn’t as good as it used to be. It is now only ok. Was also very expensive.
I called and they didnt answear
Very helpful and friendly
Arts is overpriced.
If you drop your instrument off for an estimate get it in writing with a signature from the manager that they will not work on it.
I walked in to pick up my trombone from an estimate, started walking out and was told I owed money. For what? I did not authorize anything.
It’s too bad this shop is the only option in Birmingham. Check out Bailey Brothers to see if they have what you need first.
Stay away. They are way overpriced.

Super! I can tell the owner is incredibly knowledgeable and always ready to help out. 11/10
Kim is amazing. Just full of knowledge and character. You feel welcome when you walk in, and no question is too stupid to ask. Cause I ask a lot of them. I’m a repeat customer and will be for years to come.
Very kind, stocked, but you will pay double what you will online.
11. Bailey Brothers Music Company
Address: 4673 US-280 Suite # 7, Birmingham, AL 35242 , Clio , Alabama , United States
Excellent selection and reasonable prices. Something here for every musician.
I bought a tama superstar classic from Bailey Brothers, and was very happy. The staff member that i worked with was david he was very helpful and nice. i highly recommend this music store!
I had an absolutely great experience in this huge, well-stocked store. Salesperson, Erskine, was awesome. No pressure, very helpful, patiently letting me try out one guitar after another to make sure I was happy with the amp.
I could have bought this on-line and had it shipped for free and saved $85 in taxes – but I felt the experience was worth paying a little more, and worth supporting a local (non-chain) business.
There are some negative reviews here. I’m sure with doing a lot of sales and service, someone won’t be happy. But I did not experience anything but great gear, and a helpful no-pressure salesman.
good staff well organize not bad products
I needed to buy instruments for my Middle School kids. They were very upfront with their prices and seemed to have the best deals.
Helpful and kind! Will be back to see them soon.
I left my guitar with this store in February 2012 for a simple repair. In June it was still hanging waiting for them to repair. I had been told on multiple occasions that it would be ready in just a few days. I picked it up today June 24, 2012 and no repair has been done and I was still charged a bench fee. This place sucks. I will never go in there again. Good luck if you do.
I would use profane language, but it would not adequately describe the crap this company pulled. Basically, I took my brother to trade a PRISTINE first-owner amp, and we could prove it, in for a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, used, which is of equal value….and my brother coughed up $100.
I took off work to take him to initially buy the thing. I took off work to bring it in for repair when we discovered sticky crap on the power tubes, and I ended up working until 10PM thanks to these guys. They wanted me to take off work again, after having spent 5 hours in their store. I basically spoke up and said, he might be the customer, but I’m the wheelman, and I’m furious. I mentioned the fact of the wasted gas, wasted trips, and the at least 6 hours of driving they were expecting of me.
They checked OUR amp out very thoroughly, and even treated my brother like a criminal, saying they are getting his DL in case he stole it. SERIOUSLY people….
I tried to talk some business sense with them, asking them to do something for the trouble, and it would not have taken much. They said no. Then I asked if they can just reverse everything since ALL of the stuff was still in the store…. The guy made up a story of a law, which actually doesn’t exist, then claiming he has to charge extra to reverse it all. Guitar Center evidently doesn’t know about this (fake) law.
Not ONLY that, but the smug, d-bag attitude that the guy gave me when pushing my brother, his CUSTOMER aside to say “you don’t think we’re trying to rip you off do you?” He did this to put me on the spot, and tried to make me look like the bad guy.
In the end, my brother spent another $170 to get a new model. In the end, he got what he wanted, but we are both appalled by how the guy behaved to our faces. Beware, their used gear has NO warranty, but they represented at sale that they would ensure the gear works if something went wrong like the day we get it… Well… it did.
You don’t take someone’s $700 amp + $100 and then give them junk, and not try to do something proper after dragging someone thru hell. That’s the bottom line. I tried more than the guy at this store. You won’t catch us in that place again.
Considering the tens of thousands that my brother spent with other companies, Bailey Brothers missed an opportunity… Not good business. Dishonest, rude, and outright condescending. Smiled at us when we expressed our frustration with the runaround….
No stars really. Not a very good merchant. Let someone use my credit card number without the card! Be careful!
12. Everything Musical
Address: 2400 W Britt David Rd, Columbus, GA 31909 , Clio , Alabama , United States
My favorite music store! They are always friendly and eager to help.
They have a good selection and great prices.
Great store with friendly & knowledgeable staff
Everyone was kind and friendly. They did an excellent job of tuning up my dulcimer. Thanks y’all!
To the proprietor of Everything Music,
love Everything musical! Location and staff good YET your store, could be….
Updated?. splashes of vibrant colors, glitter, just a hint of music’s exuberance.
And to wake up your staff. Thier retinas really do NEED IT!
Percussions, I will consider placing them in a central location adding 2 Or more drum sets. Allowing the novice to browse. I never got to within eight feet of sitting down behind one, the bullpen for your sales reps. Is in the way.
Guitars. Lots of them acoustic, Bass.
Tons! With a selection, UM? NO, NOT MUCH. Well… of course the wall of the dun, dun, dunnn! The expensives. Grouped ever so closely, and out of reach.
Or the three hundred dollar OK electric guitars. So, no more insults.
Please include five more guitar models at the $750.00 level. This will increase your profit margins.
Last: consider opening up the interior of the building so customers can turn right, strait, or left, when first entering the building. Right to pianos, key boards, left acoustic instruments, forward to drums in the center location, and further forward to electric instruments.
I have changed my review since Everything Musical is under new management. I have been in the store 4-5 times since then and they have matched or beaten online prices.
On a separate note this store needs Gibson guitars.
New ownership has really turned the store around. Lower prices. Friendly staff that are less overbearing. Letting you explore is half the fun. Selection has improved. They lack a good guitar repair system though
We were in today.. My toddler let go of my hand and touched a Yuklele and it fell. I picked it up and placed it back on shelf and started looking around for someone and then this guy runs over and has a meltdown like taking it over to another worker maybe manager and it had a crack on side . He even said it cracked more when he pushed the little black box back in.. The other guy looked at it and took it to the back and came back saying it was broken couldn’t be sold and we had to buy it (146.00 in mind I didn’t have “extra” to spend and I told him that and he didn’t seem to care).. So I did then the person at check out asked if I wanted a warranty I was like No I don’t even want this thing. Well when I got home it didn’t work because there was no battery in it so we put one in it and plugged it up to our amp and it works just fine. Was going in to rent a Tuba for my son needless to say we won’t be back in that place.
Very poor service everything was out of tune. Every banjo in the place need to be set up
And the to set it all off this grey haired prick comes running over to me like excuse me excuse can I help you, in a very condescending tone like are you even a drummer this is very expensive and I was just looking at it and I guess since I am covered in tattoos I’m not a professional touring musician who knows how to play anything……. Screw this place if your a musician they do not like our kind
I use to love this place! Jacob is still extremely helpful! The front end help are awful they don’t even look at you extremely rude! It’s resulted in a long term customer driving to Montgomery or Atlanta. It’s sad!
