Very poor customer service. Rude staff. Not quality instruments and over priced. You are locked into a long term agreement and paying top dollar for a used instrument. If you need any type of assistance be prepared to pay top dollar and they will hold your child’s Instrument hostage until they get full payment!

Coles music is a very unprofessional music shop. They should just stick to rentals to children. If you’re planning on bringing any instrument for repair, you’d be better off bringing it to a dumpster. Warranty on work not acknowedged. The staff is extremely rude and unknowledgeable. Stick to ripping off school kids and the schools they go to. Any rebuttal from Coles music below is just an attempt to save face for what they did and the way they acted.
Beware of the big condescending guy at the front desk! This person does not have an understanding of customer service and a willingness to exercise patience while troubleshooting an instrument. Oh, and if you bring your instrument in for service, you might need to wait and extra week or two after the initial commitment they provide.

My son loves it!!
I’ve been coming to Atlanta Discount Music for years – best guitar shop on the north side of the perimeter IMHO. Super helpful and friendly people, great gear selection, and some seriously cool consignments that come through. I always go out of my way to drop by anytime I’m passing through Chamblee.

Nice family owned business in chamblee. Came here to have my guitar strung and purchase a tuner. All together everything was about $38. They have a family dog that greets you at the door (which made my day because I love animals). Everyone there was very friendly and they even offer guitar lessons.
They have their own parking lot which doesn’t seem to ever be full. Its very easy to get in and out of.
It’s a neat store. It’s a small local place with a somewhat limited selection. I didn’t think the prices were all that great based on their new guitars and the staff didn’t find me interesting enough to ask me if I needed anything even though this one guy saw me coming in. Oh, well.

They weren’t very friendly or helpful with what I was looking for. Their prices are actually higher than most other places I’ve been in. My advice would be to shop for your musical items somewhere else.

Very helpful and they have some awesome looking guitars
The proprietor is a friendly and nice enough guy, has a pretty good selection of guitars and amplifiers, however he can’t compete with big box stores (which I understand) but that seems to make his prices unreasonably High.
Nice in person. But didn’t find what I was looking for. If your on the market for a key board, this is not the place to come. They don’t have them. But the do have a nice election of guitars and bass guitars and drums.
I enjoyed this music shop. Great selection of guitars as well as equipment! Would highly recommend to any musician or music enthusiast!
Kind of overpriced on chinese behringer pedal crap.
This is the most untrustworthy single business I have ever had the misfortune of doing business with. It took two months to do a simple pick up swap. Compounded by my being mislead that the neck on my guitar was ruined and sold a 600 dollar replacement. I caught this individual in several lies and truly dont understand how these poor ethics have lead to the continuity of this dump.
I have been to this place a few times, and this guy always has an attitude with me. Usually I’m able to let it go, but today I had it. I went looking for a bass guitar part, a pick-up blend potentiometer to be exact. The first time he was insisting that I had to bring I my bass in in order to see it. Finally, after a Looong explanation that I work on guitars, I was able to make him just sell me the part, to which he remarked “these are non returnable, you know,” yes, yes I know. He gave me a tone pot. I explained, again that I needed a BLEND POT, to which he responded, “well you didn’t say that!” I did, twice. Then he gave me another volume/tone pot, and kept calling it a blend pot… then I went as far as to explain that a blend pot is one that has SIX LUGS WHERE BOTH PICKUPS GO IN TO GIVE A SINGLE OUTPUT. He said “well, you didn’t explain!” gave me a push/pull volume/tone pot… once again I told him this was not it. He got an even worse attitude than at the begging and said “yes it is! I build guitars for a living! I know what I’m talking about! If you had brought in the guitar I’d be able to see the pot!” (Sigh!). I turned around and left. He did t even say have a good day or anything of the sort. I’d 4ather travel the 40 minutes to the GC than to go back there. There, I said it. Hope it’s helpful.

It’s a guitar wonderland, for sure. Four 20′ walls of dream guitars. Staff is great. Zero haughtiness. They even have an area with big soft chairs in case you bring some normie that isn’t into guitars. Fair, transparent trade policy. If you can’t find the right guitar or amp here, you’ll have to go the custom route. (Don’t go lookin’ for basses though. I only saw one.)

My husband plays guitar. We have been to several guitar stores in the metropolitan Atlanta area over the years. He is very active in the market owning a collection high end guitars. We called and made an appointment with Jeremy. He exceeded our expectations, took care of all his concerns. Jeremy is knowledgeable and his customer service was excellent. My husband was allowed to test the three guitars he was interested in. If there were any adjustments needed to the action, truss rod etc. they took care of it on the spot. Jeremy ensured that nothing could scratch or damage the guitar while we played it, we appreciate this. Other stores do not do this. Any guitar costing over $3000.00 gets pleked , and they offered a quarterly string replacement. You don’t get that anywhere else we’ve been. The store is very well kept and organized with a great selection of everything guitar. We will be a repeat customer because of the excellent service and environment Jeremy provided. Thank you Jeremy job well done!

Did a drive by while traveling in the area. Saw the ‘call for appointment’ sign. Rang the door bell and was ushered into guitar heaven. Played a Heritage H150 (unplugged) for a while. I was ready to buy the beast and hit the road. Was told that it would be plek’ed and shipped to me. I really didn’t want that. I asked if I could pick it up in a week when I head back to FLA. They said the process would take 3-4 weeks.
So, there won’t be a new guitar in my collection. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Not happy with the setup service.
Went in yesterday and had a terrible experience. I have purchased high end guitars all over the country and never experienced such rude and condescending people. Don’t waste your time going there.
I bought a guitar and had it shipped to Nashville with a 72 hour approval period. They were good to overnight it to me. I decided not to keep it and overnighted it back. In addition to my overnighting it back, I offered to pay for their portion of the shipping to me. They said not to worry. That’s because they were about to stick me a “restocking” fee of $375! Add my $84 to overnight it back and I had the pleasure of trying and returning a guitar for a mere $459. They tried to justify why in a couple of emails but sorry, I will never see this as anything but less than cool.

Having spent hours and hours at three Guitar Centers in the Atlanta area, plus hours more on various websites looking for an acoustic drum set, I accidentally came across AME on google, and called them to see what used sets they had in stock. Mike, the very polite, humorous and knowledgable owner, informed me of his current stock. So I headed over to the store and was delighted to see 5-6 different sets in my price range (including Gretsch, PDP, Slingerland and Mapex). After asking Mike way too many questions, and borrowing a pair of sticks to test the sound, I ended up choosing a beautiful, metallic silver, 5 piece PDP set. He’d installed new skins so basically I got these for 50% off the price of new. He helped load the set into my SUV and off I went. I couldn’t be happier with the whole process, and strongly encourage anyone looking for used musical equipment to support this great local business – I bet you’ll be pleasantly surprised as I was!
Atlanta Musicians Exchange is my favorite music store in Atlanta. Mike has sold several guitars and bass guitars for me. I have also purchased guitars and drums from Atlanta Musicians Exchange. Mike has also turned and old Ludwig floor tom into a cool little kick drum for me. If you are looking a cool independently owned music store… this is the place for you! Love this store!!!! ROCK ON!!!
Great no-nonsense music shop. Nice folks who tell it like it is and don’t try to “sell at you.” For those of us on a budget, they give great prices, honest opinions, and genuine smiles!
The repair shop sucks
Horrible Customer service and NOT HELPFUL!! Instead of helping we with appropriate prices for my gear, I was ridiculed by the prices I thought might be appropriate. A ‘good luck with selling your stuff at those prices’ is all I got. I don’t appreciate the attitude and lack of consideration. All they could have said was ‘those prices are higher than market currently…have you thought of selling them for $$$$?’. Unfortunately the response I got causes me to NEVER want to shop at this place. Sellers BEWARE.
I spoke with the most racist person that I’ve come across in a long time, I think it was the owner. My child called the store on the 4th of July (several times because he is a child and did not realize that businesses are actually closed on the 4th of July). I was unaware that he called so many times. The following day I received a VERY nasty and distasteful message on my voicemail. When I returned the call, I wasn’t even given a chance to speak. He was yelling, using profanity and hung up on me. I will definitely tell everyone I know not do business here and I do not recommend doing business here (especially people of color). I will also post it on my social media pages.There are far too many Music stores that actually respect their customers.
After looking at other reviews, it seems that the owner is just a jerk by nature. I didn’t even see any responses to good reviews, only negative ones. So apparently you enjoy tounge wrestling. I feel sorry for the people that have to deal with you daily. Bless you anyway sir.

Music Authority is THE place for music education in Forsyth County. They have a solid curriculum for all instruments, with tests and performances required to graduate from one level to the next, and an awesome rock program, which includes summer Rock Camp, year long Rock Ensemble, and Showcase Bands for those students who are really serious about careers in music. They’ve been instrumental (ha!) in getting my extremely shy (refused to go on stage for her first recital) daughter to come out of her shell and perform regularly. Cannot day enough about how amazing the community is, either. The older students who have been at MA for years are SO friendly and helpful to those just starting out.
I recently moved to the area, and have been looking for another music store that will burn a hole through my pocket. I stopped in and WOW! The main thing I was interested were effects pedals. You never know what brands music stores will stock and these guys have quite the selection! The owner and Antonio are very knowledgeable and passionate. I definitely recommend stopping in the next time you find yourself in need of anything guitar/music related. Thanks again guys, I’ll be seeing you again very soon!

Mr.Mark is my son’s Piano teacher and my son enjoys his piano lessons.
My 10 yr old daughter and I take piano lessons at Music Authority. Our instructor, Brooke, along with a lot of practice, has taken us from zero musical experience to reading and playing the piano in a few short months.
We enjoy the lessons each week and we learn something at each one. Our instructor is a gifted teacher. She changes up the lesson plans so throughout our lsns, and at home practice, we learn music theory, practice skills exercises, and learn songs. It pushes us to go further but doesn’t overwhelm.
If your looking to learn an instrument or two, this is a good place to start. Music camps and performances are offered as well. You can get as involved as you want.
I was referred to Music Authority after moving to the area and wanting to continue with my music lessons. I was a little skeptical when I arrived as I’m used to larger big box music stores like Sam Ash and Guitar Center. 2 years later I’m still a happy customer. They have great instructors all with degrees in music and actively play in places of worship and/or gig professionally which was important to me. The staff is courteous and helpful and keeps me informed on what’s happening. They do have a retail merchandise space in the front of the store that offers what I’d call a light to medium selection of quality guitars, amps, drums and equipment/accessories (NOTE: no DJ/lighting equipment, keyboards, recording or HS band equipment here). It’s very convenient after a lesson to shop and pick up those must haves. I’ve bought many things including a guitar that I’m very happy with. They’re knowledgeable, stand by their merchandise and even offer special incentives that the larger stores don’t. They have a repair and service shop that I’ve yet to use but would if needed. Don’t let me forget all the things this place does for young musicians like summer rock camps, concerts, jam nights, open mic nights and more. I wish I had access to a music organization like this one when I was a kid… I’d be a better musician today if I did. Yes, I recommend this place.
Over priced compared to a lot of other music stores in the area. Only worth it if you are in a pinch.
Good teachers! But watch out for their rules and policies. If your child can not make it to the lesson and you giving them 24 hour notice as required you still will be paying for that lesson. Spot holding policy here comes in like in daycare if your child is sick you still paying for the spot. Teacher cancels the lesson but you still will be responsible to pay for it. With no way to make up the lessons with the same teacher. I’m not sure why they need 24 hour notice than. Its not customer accommodating policies. There is other options out there that are more reasonable and accommodating to a realistic life

If you can be sure you never can miss a lesson even with 24 hour notice for any reason than its place for you. But if you are a human like everyone else than you will be responsible to pay for lessons that been cancelled even with 24 hour notice no matter what. I never had to experience something like that before with all of my 3 kids activities. Stay away from this place!

Great staff- very friendly. Good selection of acoustic guitar strings. I have worked with Grayson several times for string replacement, set-up, fret cleaning and conditioning for an old Ovation Balladeer, and she sounds and plays better than ever!
String prices are a little higher than a bigger chain like guitar center or ken stanton. But not much more. If you live in area you’d spend that in gas getting to guitar center. So very fair. Very helpful staff. They are friendly and receptive. Lots of guitars. And unique ones from popular brands. I be digging it.
Good place for lessons and instrument maintenance. I have had them work on my guitars several times with no complaints. This last time they replaced strings and I was in a hurry and just paid and left. Getting some fret buzz from 5th and 6th strings that I would have noticed had I checked it out before leaving. My bad. Overall they are great people and do great work!
Had to make a quick stop to grab a few things. I know it was closing time. I was trying to make it quick. When they started harassing my husband reminding him when they close he left and we took our business somewhere else. Customers want to feel welcomed, not reminded how unfortunate you are to have to lock the door right at 5:00.
The customer service is awful I definitely won’t be back there every again

The store was awesome employees are friendly ” not bullies” they would leave you alone but be around … they got a good variety… but there was a kid maybe about 10 being annoying as hell.. using the store as a playground and he even get to use a trumpet as a toy!! we was there for about 2 hours and I was ready to smack it and ask him about his parents…
Returned an item but over a week later, the charge (almost $2000) is still on my credit card.
Bait and switch – Went to buy a new Marshall MX212AR cab in Atlanta Sam Ash and when I asked about 10% off for being retired military, the salesman said I can get the 10% discount. He then rang it up and told me the price and it was only 7 dollars less than the regular price, ( it should have been 25 dollars less). I asked again about the 10% percent off that he said I could get and he said the system wouldn’t give it due to the current economic situation. It’s obvious the system didn’t tell him that and he only mentioned giving me 10% off to get me to buy it as he didn’t mention it until after he rang it up. Never going back.
Good selection of gear. Too bad you’re invisible after spending thousands over the years —even when they’re slow. I’d blame it on poor management as of the time of this review. Hopefully things will change.

Great place for new kids starting out eith their first instrument.
Julian is awesome! My 12 year old and I took his sax across the street for minor repair then came to look around. My son also plays the guitar and Julian just jumped right in and started showing him some stuff. They had a mini jam session on the spot. Probably not quite typical but we were the only patrons at the time and my son had the best time! Going back to see Julian for some a extra lessons
It had what I needed, so that was good. However, the staff seemed like they would’ve loved to be anywhere but at work.

Great place to rent from!
I have purchased guitars and Ukuleles from here and received amazing customer service from Kaylee. They have vast knowledge about instruments and excellent advice on what to purchase with complete honesty. A breath of fresh air in this day and age!!!
Tyler was tremendously helpful when I needed some help with restringing my acoustical guitar. I haven’t touch it in years and he was a great help in answering my questions and helping me out. He is to be commended for his great customer service skills and pleasant personality.
Good service and very knowledgeable
I would NEVER recommend this place to anybody. I preordered a guitar through them a month in advance. When i went to pick it up, I was informed I wouldn’t be receiving it for 6 more weeks. I immediately had them cancel my order and I ordered it online and received it in 3 days later. Fast forward 2 weeks and Music and Arts CHARGED ME FOR MY GUITAR ANYWAYS!! Will never be even walking near this store again.
Will not use them again. We had a signed contract for a rental and after several months, they realized that they made a mistake on the pricing. They did not honor their agreement and changed the terms and we had to pay higher price. Signed agreements mean nothing to them.
I don’t recommend visiting this store while in this crazy epidemic. They have gone way over board locking things down. You must where a mask, which I complied with, but you are not allowed to touch anything? The associate was animate she could only touch things. Absolutely ridiculous, I walked out. I’ll never buy from them again. To many other options.
