I came in to look at a clarinet for my husband. The store was nice, clean, organized and the salesman was very helpful. They were able to arrange financing for me and I walked out with a nice clarinet with no money down and easy monthly payments. I would definitely shop here again. They gave me a one year warranty and told me they have an in-house repair department
Jon was an excellent salesman, polite and friendly
Buena atención
Five stars when the old man ran it downtown and had everything 3 stars since he passed awesome high quality then ok now but comparitively approaching mediocrity in quality and in off brands mediocre quality instruments profitable in margins for them but way too many entry level instruments and equipment still an interesting group of shops but it was a virtual museum of guitar and instrument history when the old man had it with every guitar you could every want from the 50s to the present..sometimes change isnt good keep the old mans business acumen and legacy somewhat intact and its easily 5 stars plus his was the best music store in the world in my book and ive seen many its still good but not crazy awesome like when he had it and one of a kind then but its in extreme danger at this point of going from a one of a kind store with everything vintage and new anyone could ever want from beginner to superstar to just another music store in a sea of music stores from one of a kind unique to just like all the others..some emotional attachment here but keep at least some of the old mans vision for what was once hands down the best music store in the world..still good but not at all the chicago store i once knew and loved
To hot and cramped but friendly and communicative workers
The place is nice. People there will like to show you products that you want to see. I recently bought a guitar there. Downside is I felt the brand I was looking for was not available but eventually I bought something entirely different. Whether you buy or not, definitely check out the store. 4 stars out of 5.
Just attempted to trade in a guitar. Strange fellow pretended to go on ebay and lied about the going rate for the same guitar by %50. Offered me less than a third of what Guitar Center offered. I spend alot per year on gear and none of it will go to Chicago Music Store. Liked the store on Speedway but they’re the ones who sent me to this swarmy installation.
HATED IT! Couldn’t for the life of me understand why they would move to a smaller building, until I realized it was because they were probably losing business! All thanks to an inconsiderate manager. After being rushed and insulted by management I can honestly say that I refuse to give them any opportunity of doing business with me whatsoever in the foreseeable future!
sad i have to change my review, really wanted to like this store but after returning our bass we ended up with one with a broken neck pick up and electrical problems. it kept making cracking and popping while it was plugged in. needless to say we returned it and got our other one back. we fixed up the flaws ourselves but point being you guys need to pay attention to these pieces you’re selling and work on them before you sell them. don’t sell somebody something like that.

Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff! My new favorite music store!
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. A good local biz to support
Had a great experience renting an instrument, excellent customer service very friendly staff.
I had a very positive experience at Instrumental Music. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Especially their instrument tech/luthier Cody, who helped to answer several questions I had about what paint/finishing products he would recommend on a DIY guitar build I am working on. (They didn’t carry any. Otherwise I would have made a purchase.)
My overall impression of the store is that it is geared towards the beginner/novice musician in that they had a wide variety of instruments in price ranges that were more towards the mid – lower end. And yet were still very good quality products from reputable manufacturers. And they offered lessons in store as well. The only small knock on the store I had would be the limited selection of manufacturers to choose from.
I would definitely recommend visiting their store though, whether you’re a beginner or pro. This was my first experience in their store and I will be back!
Good selection, but the prices are definitely higher than you find online.
Selection of instruments was good, nice and friendly staff.
When I called to ask how much it would cost to replace violin strings, they said it was free and that I would only be charged for the new strings themselves. But when I brought the violins in, they charged me $25 per violin. Then, after a few days of practice on the newly stringed violins, one (of the two) violins irreparably broke at the base where the strings would attach, likely because they had negligently applied too much force in replacing the strings. In all, I paid them almost $100 to ruin one of my violins, which cost me $400 to replace. They are liars and at least when it comes to violins, they are also incompetent.
Place is ok but prices are high
Not pleased at all. I called ahead to get instruments repaired and was told it would be two weeks. I drove to drop off instruments and asked if I could have them done a few days sooner. I was told the repair person is taking a vacation and it would be 3 weeks. But, if I wanted to pay double, I could have it done sooner. What a scam! I will never do business with this music store.

These guys brought my guitar back to life. Highly recommend!
Came here to get a special guitar and Tony was great, he ordered it and no joke was shipped and delivered in less than a week. Guitar was perfect. Thanks Tony!
Great group of knowledgeable and helpful guys. They went out of their way to make sure that I was happy with my purchase. I will continue to go to them for my musical needs. Great place to shop.
Basic local music shop. Owner seemed very nice.
Used guitars and amps are fairly priced. There are some hard to find items that move through here often. But yo T, GYST.
I should have posted this year’s ago but was more mad at myself. Took my son’s electric guitar in to be cleaned and restringed, over $200. While we were there I ordered him a case to carry it to and from school, took tons of pestering on my part to get the case we’ll after the guitar had been returned to us. I went to pick it up, wasn’t even the case he described I was ordering and was a small flimsy case.. for $100?!?! I requested a refund, was tired of waiting. Would only do store credit. He should have refunded our money, it wasn’t our fault that he doesn’t know what he’s doing. Never gone back again!! Stay away from this place!!
Just don’t. Check Yelp, the BBB, or the news story investigation the local channel did (both of them), or the Attorney Generals investigation. Wish I had.
He charged me more than $200 to order some acoustic pickups, and said he was on the phone ordering them when I was in the store. 2 years have gone by, no pickups, and no refund. He sold one of my instruments on consignment and never paid me, it sold for $325 a year and a half ago. There is more, believe it or not…BEWARE!

An awesome and quirky local combination bicycle and musical instrument shop. Great deals on used guitars and amps. Check it out before hitting up Guitar Center or Chicago Store.
Awesome bike shop, believe it or not… Cycle To Go… repaired my broken spokes, even with my Tannus tires, which they have And install for a smokin price!!
Low stock
Slow customer service.
good store..a tad overpriced on certain items… the staff is decent, there is one guy who always seems like he’s in bad mood he’s usually right at the front, his service could use some improvement, other than that neutral experience I guess, definitely not much of a welcoming vibe.
Will not do business with anymore!
I’ve read the experiences of other customers at this store and can’t believe that I am having such a negative experience with these guys! Granted the mistake was made on my part, but after realizing what had happened and returning the instrument in good condition and trying to fix the mistake, my wages were garnished for twice the amount of what the instrument was worth that I had rented! $1315.76 and now two and a half years later after I had paid in full they are trying to garnish my wages again for another $100. All of this was done without communication, I made a mistake after moving to a new house and packing the instrument away and forgot about it. I returned the item when I came across it unpacking immediately without notice. I wasn’t expecting not having to pay something, but to come back after having paid in full and after such a long time makes me wonder if the customers are really the focus of this store!
Will Rip You Off

Amazing crew working here, super helpful and fantastic customer service. The most inviting music store I’ve ever been in.
Really knowledgeable and friendly staff. 11/10 would definitely help them in the zombie apocalypse.
Nice store. Helpful worker. I wish I ordered that Alvarez though….
Nice enough store. Employees seemed cool. Owned and operated by Guitar Center. I still prefer local when possible, but this place is nice.
my son had saxophone lessons scheduled about a week in advance so we showed up to our appointment only to have the front desk guy tell us that he supposedly called me and left me a voicemail telling me our instructor cancelled us. i had no missed calls or voicemails. i left work early to bring my son, wasted time and gas having to drive 30+ minutes to get here. very unprofessional.
8. Chicago Music Store
Address: 5646 E Speedway Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85712 , Corona de Tucson , Arizona , United States
Mark was outstanding in helping us find a baritone saxophone for my son and giving us a great deal. My son was so happy, it sure made his year. We recommend Mark and the Chicago Music store and will definitely be dealing with them in the future, especially since my daughter is a few years behind my son. They provide great support to schools and all the band kids out there.
I have always had the best experience at Chicago music store even going back to the 70s when I began my music Journey. Chicago store is always on top of having skilled experienced energetic staff. My visit this time was in repairing my saxophone that was dropped. The repairman went above and beyond repair. He made sure that I did not leave the shop until my saxophone was more than satisfactory. I will always recommend Chicago store for all of your music needs.
Everyone was nice wish they would have returned the product I purchased tho.
Helpful and friendly. Very knowledgeable about the product and give you space to look around.
I talked to jim the repair guy and he was super helpful and knew exactly what I was talking about.
Was doing rent to buy they gave me a broken instrument that didn’t work then I took it back the next day they accused me of breaking it then made me pay a hundred and fifty dollars to fix it even though I didn’t break it
The guitar technician is one of the worst I’ve encountered in the many years I’ve been playing guitar. He was VERY rough with a 1300 dollar guitar. In his haste and carelessness he damaged a flamed maple top. He shrugged his shoulders and said, “that is what happens when you work on a guitar”. I can’t imagine the damage he creates behind customer’s backs. His methods of examination and his repair knowledge was at a staggering incompetent level. I DO NOT RECOMMEND going to this technician. Don’t know his name. Just best to stay clear from any tech from the store on speedway.
Wouldn’t recommend, music is suppose to be fun and the tall white guy doesn’t leave you alone. Let people play in peace. I’ll be going to guitar center where they let you express yourself.
9. The Folk Shop
Address: 2525 N Campbell Ave, Tucson, AZ 85719 , Corona de Tucson , Arizona , United States
Service was excellent. Answered all our questions. Limited amount of people in store. Call to make an appointment
I’ve lived in Tucson my whole life, and have never been to the Folk Shop. I’ve been missing out. I took my adult, sight impaired daughter there, to trade in her electric violin, and hopefully come out with a wood one. We came out with so much more. We were both treated so kindly and they went above and beyond to help us. When she decided on one, one of the employees took it to tune it, and started playing it. My daughter had tears in her eyes, she was so thrilled with the sound. From start to finish, it was a hugely positive experience, and we will be back !
Friendly service! The instruments are well maintained and the staff are knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend them to a friend.
Love the new ukulele room.
They repaired my 12 string guitar
Friendly staff
I am absolutely incredulous as to how condescendingly I was treated over the phone by this place. I arrived with my Taylor 312-CE looking to trade up and quite likely spend substantial chunk of money. I noticed the posting on the door that read (I may be paraphrasing) “masks required even for those vaccinated.” I have been twice jabbed with Pfizer, but no problem. I get it. I understand it. People may not be fully honest about their status and might contaminate others. I have zero issue complying with the policy The posting also read “do not knock; call to be granted entry” (again, I may be paraphrasing, but this was the gist). I keep a KN-95 with me in the car but couldn’t find it. Maybe it fell behind the seat or something. I ring their number. A woman answers. Convo goes like this: “Hi, I noticed you require masks even for the vaxxed, which I am fully, but I can’t seem to find mine here in my car….I’m here outside….do you happen to have any masks there inside the store that you could pass out to me”? (like logical, sensible merchants across town, the state, the country have in abundance in case you forgot or can’t find yours—sterile ones for the taking in boxes) “If not, I don’t live too far. I can run home, grab one and come back”. The woman on the phone raises her voice and says “NO YOU NEED TO WEAR A MASK” and abruptly hangs up!! Um, I think I got that part and more than amply communicated it back. Wow. And delivered with a tone of voice akin to Mrs. Gulch from Wizard of Oz. I was perfectly polite, acknowledged the policy and was willing to go out of my way to comply. This is not only ridiculously bad policy, but there was not even basic intelligible, lucid communication on her part. Not the conduct of a sound minded individual.
Now, for some background. I have never made any major purchases at Folk Shop. However, I have patronized them over years–even before I moved to Tucson. The first time, I was recording an album visiting from Austin in 2014 and needed a dobro capo. The engineer called around to Guitar Center and few other places. They didn’t even know what a dobro was, much less a dobro capo. Folk Shop to the rescue with a Paul Beard capo, just like the one I had forgotten and left back in TX! I’ve been there since for strings, straps, stainless steel slides etc. Never ever the slightest of problems. What happened today is totally inexcusable. I myself have been fastidious and a stickler about masking and distancing throughout the pandemic, but this kind of post-mandate fanaticism, illogic and outright meanness is beyond the pale. They certainly don’t want my money or any of my future business. To hell with this place. l’ll buy a guitar from Musician’s Friend before stepping foot in there, even though I prefer to shop locally.
Well, over the years I’ve bought, sold, and traded with Paul and really wouldn’t do so again. The last guitar I purchased there had broken tuner barrels and more important, his pricing and moods vary wildly. Certainly lots to look at, but no great shakes in terms of quality or pricing.
Very rude disrespectful because I was asking for a part and I didn’t have a mask and I wasn’t trying to go in the place without permission and they were just very rude very very rude and I didn’t understand I was thrown off by it. Yelling at me for no reason all I wanted was a part I didn’t even try to go into shop told her I’d wait outside because I didn’t have a mask she slams door in my face. So I go get a mask and they won’t even deal with me I was the up most respectful and didn’t deserve that. Very very rude!!! I’ll never do business with them again.
10. Rainbow Guitars
Address: 2550 N Campbell Ave, Tucson, AZ 85719 , Corona de Tucson , Arizona , United States
Stefan was very helpful in providing info to my husband when he was selecting a guitar. We appreciated his expertise.
Speaking with Harvy and then Vic on the purchase of my Ric 330 they took care of me with golden gloves they setup my guitar exactly the way I wanted it, these guys are five plus stars!!! I will never buy another guitar anywhere else after this week of a horror show with zz sound sending back 2 Gibson Guitars that were terrible QC, love you guys they put all those other online big box stores to shame ! I’m a customer for life
Only shop that has Mesa boogie tubes. Staff very helpful.
Great guitars. Terrible sales staff. I have never seen people that thought they were so cool. No one said hello even after 1/2 an hour of trying different guitars. They could have sold me one today if they tried at all.
Big selection! And Drums….
Lived in Tucson 20 years played lots of bars given Rainbow lots of $$$. Best selection in town, and the prices are fair. The Rainbow repair shop is great…providing you purchased the guitar from Rainbow. Otherwise…good luck. Sorry guys, but you know it’s true.
Gave them my Les Paul for repairs. Week later picked it up and they had done nothing thinking im stupid. This store assumes your dumb right off the bat. If you play their guitars for over a minute they approach you like a car salesman trying to get you to buy it or leave. They asked 2 people to stop playing while I was in there. And their prices are insane! Overpriced merch and rude staff. Also tried to get a cable for my dual rectifier. I left it there overnight, came back to get it and they lost it. 90 dollar cable! It’s been that way for 20 years.
Went to this store to purchase a guitar for my daughter’s birthday, excited to see their collection. The doors were locked. As we were walking away a man came to the door and very Rudely pre-screened us, not allowing us in the store but not providing a reason either. It was 2:30pm well within business hours. I will be going anywhere else for my string instrument needs.
Amazing selection but only appointment only, even if there’s no one in the store they won’t let you in without one. Must be a cool place
11. Music & Arts
Address: 8320 N Thornydale Rd Suite 150/170, Tucson, AZ 85741 , Corona de Tucson , Arizona , United States
I just moved to Tucson within the last year and this has been the absolute most helpful store ever. I used to go to a Music and Arts in Maryland (no idea it was the same place) and I can say that their customer service is above and beyond across the country! I took a bass with a broken bridge to a certain big box retailer and all they could do is stand there with a shocked look and say they couldn’t do anything for me. I went to Music and Arts (should’ve gone there 1st) and was treated like I was the only customer in the store. They have been in touch with me to inform of any updates, and are friendly and knowledgeable. Great store!
Got my 8th graders trombone fixed, spit valve was detached. Turn around time if you respond as fast as them and have the instrument in their possession by Thursday is less than 5 days. It’s very quick and reasonable.
Great small place to pick up any music needed instrument or get lessons too and the owner is super nice too!
Friendly and helpful staff! Clean and distance with masks observed! Awesome place to learn music as well as purchase quality music products.
Just want to say that I am a fan of this store. I think they do a great job at helping people find what they are looking for and have them leaving satisfied with their musical purchases. With that being said, I want to make a point that only having one store closer is unsafe. Multiple times in the past year I have heard of there being theft. I’m concerned for the employees’ safety and customer safety.
Protect your employees! They make the company money!
Very knowledgeable and helpful staff.
I was very unhappy with the way this store sold us an instrument after we rented one for over two years. We qualified for the rental credit and it was given to us. The problem was that they valued the used rental instrument at $800+ and they sell the same one brand new for about $470. The reason they do that is that there is a clause that states that when using the rental credit one must buy an instrument that cost the same or more than the rental so they jack up the value of the rental. We were told that we couldn’t buy the flute we had been renting and could not get a new flute because it wasn’t equal or more value to the one we had been renting per terms of our agreement. They said that our only option was to purchase a used refurbished flute from the warehouse and it would be sent to us. We feel that this is a very shady way to do business. Not recommended. Updated; Thank you for your reply too, owner of the store. I have already sent an email but thanks for suggesting it.
The worst place ever.. Always pay my rental before its do and yet still get notices in the mail saying not paid.. They never get the billing correct.. I even got a collection letter 2 months after I even returned the instrument in and have proof of paid in full yet they say it was a computer problem.. This place sucks.. Never doing business with them again..
I used to be loyal customer for years. Howerver, M&A’s new strategy of “Paperless receipts”, requires that I provide my email address for a purchase. Their “paperless reciept” excuse is nothing more than a strategic excuse to obtain email addresses so they can spam. When I stated I do not provide my email, they refused to sell me a service. I have since found a local music store that is more friendly and will no longer use M&A.
12. Zia Records (Speedway – Tucson)
Address: 3370 E Speedway Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85716 , Corona de Tucson , Arizona , United States
this is the friendliest record store I have ever been to and they had all the titles I was looking for today. very good hip hop selection. #runthejewels
I like going in Zia. I always find new things.
Great place to find music and movies at very reasonable prices. Good also for trading in media that you no longer listen to or watch. Do stop by and explore.
Cause it’s just okay
If it wasn’t for the employees I would say this is an alright store. There was a lady working there on the evening I visited and I’m still trying to get her laugh out of my head.
Prices have gone up….finding the same CDs on amazon for half the cost….goodbye zia
Be very careful when taking albums in, if you don’t ask for an appraisal, you won’t get anything near what the older albums are worth. I received almost nothing for what I took in.
