Awesome store with very knowledable people and great musicians and teachers!
The staff is very helpful, and in fact… the are very keen to see that all your questions are answered, and done so with enthusiasm!
I’ve made several purchases from these fine folks!
Went in today and were helped by Jason and Tony, I am a novice and could have easily been taking advantage of. They were both so helpful and most importantly honest! I left with a fixed amp, a tuned guitar and a new guitar stand, I was only charged for the new stand and a good price for that. I will be a customer for life.I plan on upgrading and when I do I will only go here! Thanks again guys!
3. Iron Mountain Inn
Address: 325 US-20, Fairfield, ID 83327 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
Stopped down here the other night. Was greeted outside by a nice lady whom I think owned the place and worked there. It was her night off. There were only 3 other people in the bar area, Two of which seemed to be related to someone who worked in the restaurant side. Chose to sit at the bar, though no one really talked to us. The bartender was a young slip of a girl and I believe the owner’s daughter. A little inexperienced but very sweet and helpful. My fiance ordered the bbq ribs and I ordered the Cobb salad. Was VERY impressed with portion size, taste(although I’d expect ribs to be covered in bbq sauce rather than have it served cold on the side) and the price was more than reasonable. Had I known the place was this good I’d have been in much sooner! Such a hidden gem! We’ll definitely be eating here again… and again!
Nice atmosphere, good food. Everything you need.
Great and friendly place
Awesome country people with excellent country food wow dreaming of skiing at Soldier Mountain
Just passing through and decided to stop. Decent atmosphere with pretty good food.
Fingersteaks were good
Ordered waited over an hour for our food. Only 2 tables occupied. Food awful
Fine for a drink. Good onion rings. Nice staff. Much was lacking.
Was there last weekend during rodeo lady behind bar lil rude seemed she would pick and choose who she would wait on didn’t seem to care how long you were there. It took bout half hr to get waited on. Won’t go back!
4. Gig’s Music
Address: 611 N Orchard St, Boise, ID 83706 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
Insane inventory, mildly overshadowed by the positive vibe and knowledgeable staff.
Great visit to learn what banjos I might be interested in, as well as chatting about local punk music in the area. I talked at length with Dub, who was very interesting, as he knows a lot about various musical genre and bands playing in the Boise area.
Very friendly,knowledgable, great customer service.
They don’t sell reeds…
Great help and service. Instruments were priced Right and in great condition for being used.
I remember, not too long ago Gigs Music Company was owned and operated by Rick and Debbie Schroeder. They had an impressive enventory. Then it changed hands you another great musician who worked for the Schroeders from the beginning and held it’s integrity. It seems those days are over. I’ve been there a few times lately and it saddens me to say it’s really gone down hill. To say the service is poor would be a understatement. The inventory lacks quantity and quality both. It’s definitely not getting a favorable critique from me. Three stars is more than generous in my view.
Sell used stuff.
I dropped off my amp to get the boost and reverb fixed in August 2019. Over a year later and I still don’t have my amp. I’ve stopped by several times and tried to help find the parts needed. They won’t answer or return my calls so stopping by is the only way to check in. It’s been perpetually “a couple weeks” away from being done for a year. Unbelievably bad service. Never ever rely on them for amp repair.
Stood there for almost 20 minutes waiting for the staff to get off of their “smoke break”. Then ignored for another 20. Then blown off for an additional 40 minutes.
Won’t be doing business there again.
5. Welch Music Center
Address: 12516 Fairview Ave, Boise, ID 83713 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
Lanny is so knowledgeable and patient. I’d recommend this store to anyone. The shop is so clean and well-kept too.
Selection is top notch, but gear and even strings are pretty boutique and maybe not best for a beginning guitarist. Get ’em a cheapo first in case they decide it’s not for them. Anyway, the store’s awesome, the staff are friendly, and the gear is great.
Awesome baby grand pianos and many other instruments, very friendly staff
No comment
Knowledge and friendly people with out the hovering around constantly asking if you need anything.
I went in with questions and the intention to purchase books. While waiting for the next available sales person I was going to check out the pianos. One of them asked me if I was going to buy a piano and I said no, and then they kicked me out. I’ll never come back.
Do not youse there piano moving service. They chipped a good chunk of my piano, and didn’t take any responsibility for the incident! Go to Dorsey music, or any other store! JUST DONT LET WELCH MUSIC MOVE YOUR PIANO!
RENTER BEWARE! Insurance on rented instruments does not cover accidental damage. You are better off going to Dunkley and renting – their insurance DOES cover accidental damage. We found out the hard way and were first told that the insurance would cover the damage, then told it would not, and we were treated very rudely by the old guy who works there – I don’t think he can have a conversation without interrupting.
6. Monkeyman Music
Address: 135 N 3rd E St, Mountain Home, ID 83647 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
Dropped two guitars off to get some maintenance taken care of. Can’t be happier with the service! Both guitars play like new, the turn around was great, and the price was even better. I also love the fact they are open to 8pm!!!
Calling this establishment “mediocre” would be too much of a compliment. My brother went in to ask if the man had any guitar parts and was treated like an inconvenience. The man had his back to him the whole time, was very dry and rude and had awful customer service overall, once my brother asked about guitar lessons though is when the man perked up and became chatty. Only when money was in the conversation was he interested. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
7. 12th Fret Music
Address: 2164 S Broadway Ave, Boise, ID 83706 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
Nice music store with attentive staff. They’ve also got some exceptional repair techs that fixed up a 30+ y/o Ampeg of mine, both quickly and at a very reasonable price. Will definitely be going back.
Tech animal Steve saved my rare Ripper bass from certain death. The service and friendly staff make this my ONLY music store. Do yourself a favor and stop by and say “Hi” to Rob for me.
Had a great time buying a new electric guitar from here. Staff were incredibly helpful in narrowing down choices for what I wanted and I got a guitar that I was super happy with. Would recommend anyone looking for a new guitar to come here.
Daryl sold the business to new owners and they are not very knowledgeable about guitar repairs or timely about getting back to you. I had to take my guitar repairs to somewhere else to get it done right. But being a local shop, they are still better than a chain store in many ways.
Used stuff !! Cheap…
Multiple trips back for guitar work done improperly. Disappointment city. Find a luthier.
Rude, vague and dismissive. 0/10
Really bad service. I left and went to Guitar Center and spent $1700.00 at Guitar Center. Terrible place.
8. Mike’s Music
Address: 2455 N Yellowstone Hwy, Idaho Falls, ID 83401 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
I had a great experience with mikes music shop. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. I felt like they answered all of my questions honestly and were more interested in selling me the right instrument and not the most expensive one. I would highly recommend this music store.
Good selection. Carried amps by Dime.
Great customer service
Sí hay una variedad de instrumentos musicales
Only buy stuff when certain people around, won’t be back
Bad customer service
Not anything special
9. Chesbro Music Company
Address: 327 W Broadway St, Idaho Falls, ID 83402 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
Very friendly staff with a wide selection of instruments. That’s probably how they’ve been in business so long. We stopped in after learning that they have their own brand of acoustic guitars and ukuleles. They not only look great, they sound great and are very affordable. Since we are travelling by motorcycle, we asked and they agreed to ship our purchase home. If you’re in the area and a musician, I highly recommend a stop here.
Great music store. I play the guitar and they have a good selection of guitars, amps, and pedals.
I just wish they had Gibson guitars but that’s pretty much out of their power so no fault to them.
Great local resource for music!
They had amazing set up, music stock, instrument stock, and friendly people. Great place to go for most music needs. Repair for instruments is around the corner, though.
Always fun, a good selection for most things and the staff is always friendly.
Friendly service had what I was looking for
If it would allow me to give less than a full star I would have. Will never step foot in this establishment again.
Not thrilled at all with the service of piano, lessons 110.00 a month for a child only, once a week totally outrageous. Piano gallery was way, cheaper and nicer .
I went there, asked to borrow a guitar cable, and the old guy there said “what for?” After explaining the obvious, he said he didn’t want me playing anything unless I was going to buy something. He then tried to force me to use an amp that I didn’t want to use. After he walked away, I plugged into the tube amp that I wanted to use. He then came back and told me that I wasn’t allowed to play any of the tube amps that were out for people to try. My question is this: why have the tube amps out on the showroom floor if people aren’t allowed to try them? I’m never coming back.
10. Smoky Bar Store
Address: 12 Big Smoky Rd, Fairfield, ID 83327 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
Stopped in for a cold beverage on a hot day. Really a great little stop on our back country motorcycle trip. The store was well stocked with essentials.
That place was rocking on the 4th of July
Supplies!
Stopped in for snacks after a hike. Good selection and nice people far from anything else.
Good little hide out
Quaint and very hospitable, lot’s of character. Drop in for a drink, snack, stay awhile or even a night or two, knock off your dust, get a drink and kick back.
Worst place ever! I tried to call and they lied to me, I was worried about a loved one.
11. MusiCare
Address: 391 W Broadway St, Idaho Falls, ID 83402 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
We love this place for restoring our instruments and buying high quality used Instruments. They are kind and attentive. They do a great job educating you on proper care for your instrument.
Makes good choices on instruments to put on priority for repair, has very good prices, and very good repair times. Come here instead of piano gallery.
I am a raving fan of MusiCare. I left my “new to me” used Bundy II tenor saxophone with them in hopes that they could fix some serious dents. Now it looks fantastic! And it plays better now…Thanks so much!
They had what I needed
The guy that was working there was not very friendly but they got the job done
Just a little expensive but they had what we needed
12. Blue Rider Music & Instrument Repair
Address: 595 W Ustick Rd, Meridian, ID 83646 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
Personnel were patient, knowledgeable, and friendly.
Today was my daughter’s first violin lesson. So far, the staff has been so helpful and kind. Her instructor is really nice and we look forward to a wonderful year together.
Great ambience. Spacious. Peaceful place for music shopping. Music lovers will like it.
I enjoy DM very much. It’s so much fun to look around to see all the instruments they have in-store. They had the gift I was looking for (and then some). Someday, I’ll take those violin lessons. For now, I’m saving up to get myself that keyboard bench.
Nice location. For service, I prefer the Nampa store.
Good selection, helpful staff.
Staff have very poor customer service skills, their attitude was down right rude. My issue was not resolved- despite being a customer for 8 years. It seems loyalty no longer matters to Mark Dunkley.
Best wishes to you.
Pooor customer service , employees standing around and acted like we were bothering them to serve us
This would be a wonderful music store if it wasn’t for the poor customer service for the folk who come in who are judged based on appearance and/or their apparent wealth or lack thereof. I have been playing piano and trombone for more than half my life now and my daughter is about to enter 6th grade. She has tried the trombone but is more interested in playing tuba. The staff told her she was too little, that the other instrument she was interested in — bassoon — was “really rare,” [too] expensive, and that starting on a double reed instrument was a really bad idea…oh, and did I mention that she was just way too short to play the instruments she wanted? This is not their place to decide and I have played alongside MANY petite, thin, and amazing female tuba players. Staff should not provide input on what instruments myself or anyone else “should” play, nor place any limits on their customer. Their job is to sell instruments and they can do so without being condescending or insulting.
14. Discount Music Supply
Address: 5380 E Seltice Way STE C, Post Falls, ID 83854 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
I highly recommend Discount Music Supply. I have been very pleased with the service I’ve received each time I go there. Terry is extremely helpful and very pleasant to talk to. He really knows his stuff and is always available to answer any question I have. Any time I need advice or help in regards to a musical instrument, or even a music teacher referral, he is ready to give it. I really appreciate that. Recently, I needed new strings for my violin. Thinking I would have to leave it at the store for a day or two, I was so happy to hear Terry tell me to come back in an hour and the violin would be ready. Great service! If ever I have a musical need, I know where to go — to Discount Music Supply!
Great guy knows his stuff
Great little shop. Had to grab a case for my new acoustic and the owner was super helpful, not to mention about half the price as GC and a much better quality case. Support local y’all
Good deals decent service.
Good selection and reasonable prices
Needed strings. Good selection. Manager willing to help find anything you may need.
I am on tour with my band, and I am in dire need of some new sticks. We call the store around 5:30 pm to ask them when they close. They close at 6pm and we tell them we are on our way right then. Get there at 5:45 pm and they are closed. I mean, no one there, they counted out, gone. I know many musicians who tour around the area often and I have told them to NOT go to this store. Go to Burts.
It’s really too bad these geniuses have the most ridiculous hours of operation. Tried to explain to their feeble minds that people that can afford to spend money on musical instruments are WORKING for a living. Nobody is going to take time off of work to go shop at this place. Open at a decent hour and I’ll shop there. In the last 4 1/2 years, I’ve spent approx. $5,000.00 ELSEWHERE as a direct result of their terrible hours. This I must say is regrettable as I would much prefer to keep the money here in Post Falls. Note: I’ve heard these jokers complaining that sales are very poor at that store. No wonder.
I made the drive out here from spokane based on reviews I thought it would be worth it to check it out. I got there at 3:44 and it was closed. I understand it’s in a sort of secret place but if you’re gonna close early you should maybe close around half an hour early rather than nearly an hour and a half early.
15. Piano Gallery Music Superstore
Address: 2995 E 17th St, Idaho Falls, ID 83406 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
We love our new piano! Ethan was super helpful and informative when my wife and I were trying to decide what we were looking for. I would highly recommend purchasing your next piano from Piano Gallery!
What a delight to have our piano moved y Piano Gallery. I received quick contact and the price was very reasonable. The guys were really helpful and polite and made quick work of the move. I was very satisfied and will definitely use them again to move our piano! Thank you!!
Ethan and Gabe were very professional, efficient and pleasant. They were quick in getting the piano in and settled.
Thank you! We LOVE our new piano!
Walked in to look for a up right bass wondered around for 30 min no one else in the store no one offered help then when I asked some one they said they where on the phone with a customer like maybe I would of bought one or paid for some lessons . If I had some help . But a very warm and welcoming place just not staffed on a Thursday
True to their name, they have a lot of pianos. I was slightly disappointed in the lack of electric guitars because of their new “No Limits Guitar Co” name. But they had accessories I needed. And the staff was helpful.
Great music store mostly very nice pianos but why post all these piano teachers on your website if you don’t really have teachers to give lessons??? I called to see if I can start my son on lessons and they told me that they don’t give piano lessons, but was kind enough to give me a few numbers of teachers to call but unfortunately I got not a single call back from any of them. So a 3 stars is for the misleading website.
Good quality products, but poor service. Violin parts are pseudo out of stock and will require up to a week to restock. Would avoid this place for all violin repairs/parts.
They only buy stuff when certain people around, won’t be back
The amount of religion in this store, along with some skeezy fake nice salesmen, makes you want to blast Rob Zombie in the parking lot. I have money, but I wasn’t suited up enough for the slimey sales guys who straight up ignored me for the nearest new customer – they just assumed I wasn’t in the market for a new guitar. In part, that is true – I didn’t want one from that store, it would probably be possessed by Joseph Smith’s ghost. High yick factor in this store.
16. Gordon’s Music & Sound
Address: 810 Texas St, Fairfield, CA 94533 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
Good quality inventory and people who know music. Was in the area and just needed a keyboard stand. Their service was friendly and informed. Much rather buy here than guess around online. Support local business!
Enjoyed going into the store and Cliff the store manager is very nice to talk to and very helpful. They have a lot of selection and the prices are really really good.
Great customer service and great selection.
Rude ppl
Tienda muy bonita te dejan probar la mayoría de instrumentos. Tienen bastante variedad por lo que es la zona y buenas ofertas. Guitarras hermosas.
nice music
We returned our rental violin a week before it was due and still were charged for the next month. When I contacted Gordon’s they stated they would look into it. After many calls back and forth of them verifying that yes we had turned it in on time they said they would look into a refund. A month later still no refund. When I called again I was told by Mr. Gordon that maybe the problem was with my bank, that perhaps they were deciding not to post the credit.
I walked in trying to buy guitar strings Nd immediately felt unwelcomed never had a issue before this but cashier couldn’t even awnser a question bout the strings felt like they thought I was going to steal from them or something know I’ll rather drive out of town for eny musical needs
Bought a used supposedly “gone through” Marshall amp and brand new guitar and boss effects system. Brought both back numerous times because the sound from one of the two was cutting out. All returns to the store provided that they couldn’t find the problem. When I returned home each time the cutting out of sound was apparent and obvious. The store would not refund my cash payment to buy a new amplifier but insisted I could trade for something else only. I took the amp to another guitar shop in Sacramento and before I finished looking around the tech had found a cold solder joint with cracks in it which should have been obvious to someone that has been in the business for years. They either knew what was wrong and were too cheap to fix it, or they due to inexperience really had no idea. I had to pay to have it repaired when I shouldn’t have had to. I will never go back again. I would highly not recommend anyone buying from them as they don’t stand behind their products. I also purchased almost $2000.00 worth of equipment from them to get screwed like I did. Thumbs down!
17. Burt’s Music & Sound
Address: 1123 Sherman Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
Went here to rent a violin for my kid for school. The process was really easy. There were also shoulder rests and music stands and the exact book I needed for the class. Burt’s made it very easy to get set up. And when my kid decided a couple weeks in that the violin was not for them, Burt’s made the rental return process very easy. Highly recommend!
Always a pleasure shopping here. People are helpful and knowledgeable. Burt is a true master at his craft of instrument repair and restore…
A wonderful musical landmark in Coeur d’Alene. There’s nothing local to compare with the history and character of this shop, to say nothing of the very experienced and knowledgeable staff.
Just short visit. Looking for a smaller guitar ( accoustic). Found several. Nice selection. Staff very helpful.
Nice folks. Small selection.
Great knowledgeable staff!
The person working there that day didn’t really seem to want to make a sale…. The sign saying not to touch the instruments without permission was a bit off-putting.
Then, after inquiring about trying one, he selected an instrument, took it down, re-tuned it, and hung it back up. There was no sense of being encouraged to actually try it out or anything.
It was very uncomfortable and we felt quite unwelcome.
My nephew wanted a simple stater pack with guitar and amp, etc. Called Burt’s and they said they don’t ever have them and hung up.
I have been a loyal customer and supporter of this local business for years. However my experience there for the past several years has been less than satisfactory. I have been made to feel as if I were a nuecense there by one of the shop owners I believe.
Unless this man is just a disgruntled employee which is the vibe that he puts out each and every time I have been there during the past several years.
I have never gone there only to browse and play instruments. I only go there to purchase musical items and support local business as I strongly believe in doing so being a small business owner myself.
This man puts out a vibe so foul and offensive that I vowed not to patronize this place ever again solely because of this.
This man acts as if he’s been awakened by a door to door solicitor at his home each and every time I have shopped there.
I would not recommend this place to anyone, and I will probably make this complaint known elsewhere so that the local public can be aware.
If one is either a proprietor or an employee at any establishment where intimate customer service is the foremost priority and that individual is vicious and repulsive with an obvious disgust for customers than they need not pursue that career any longer.
I have shared my honest feelings about this. THANK you for the platform
18. NW Music
Address: 6055 N Sunshine St, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
Matt was amazing! He helped us right away and explained everything until we understood what he was saying.
Great staff and atmosphere
I take lessons every Tuesday, very helpful staff & great instructors
4 stars because they do have a great selection, prices are fair, and the store is very clean and organized. The staff at first seemed helpful but then seemed impatient, as I was asked if I was ready to check out while I was still looking at guitars with an item in my hand. Caught me off guard as I felt rushed after only being in the store a couple minutes and wasn’t near the register. Other than that, they have a great selection of beautiful guitars and quality gear.
Very helpful in finding items for your instruments. The instruction is top drawer.
I have mixed feelings about this place, for sure.
The employees were extremely nice and very welcoming which makes for a good experience in itself. The store was kept very clean and there was a great selection of product.
However….. we had found a drum set we wanted to purchase for our oldest son that day and they had no way to package or wrap the pieces to insure our new purchase was being shipped out the door and able to be transported safely, in fact one employee mentioned the fact that we could “throw it in the back of our truck bed.”
For this reason we walked, which was upsetting at the time since we had been told that the set we were considering purchasing was on sale at $500 off MSRP. Once we left that day we got online only to find that their “sale” price was actually the retail price everywhere else. Honesty is huge, Don’t appreciate a business putting it out there that an item they carry is on a huge sale when in actuality it’s being sold for what it’s supposed to be sold for.
Felt the way they were doing business was a little unprofessional, and shady.
We ordered the drum set through Guitar Center instead.
ADDED IN RESPONSE TO OWNERS:
The price Listed on multiple online sites WAS the retail value of that set. They did not have it listed as a sale price trying to fool it’s customers either, that’s my point here.
You speak of “matching a price,” Not sure what that’s about, I presume that was an incident with another family.
If a person needs to purchase a preassembled set, that’s great you offer that. However…. I didn’t mention that because that was not an issue for us if it was assembled already or not, that added information is straying from the true issue at hand.
I had reached out to the manufacturer when trying to find another dealer that carried the same set and that’s exactly how we started finding the true retail price of that set at many other businesses.
Your employees did look for boxes and that’s why I mentioned how helpful they were. They then told us they had NO boxes to put them in, like I said. That’s when we decided to pass since there was no way to safely get it out the door. We made it VERY CLEAR as to why we left and they were very apologetic and understanding. We even stated the fact that maybe we would come back with a bunch of boxes and blankets to protect them, but you shouldn’t expect your customers to do that.
If you have been able to safely secure items for transpiration for 21 years… I’m a little confused as to why we were exempt from that service.
I NEVER claimed there was a tangible TAG that said “sale.” The “sale” description for this set actually came straight from your salesperson working the floor. He said it was on “sale” in order to draw more local purchases. We actually got the claimed to be “sale” price and the MSRP directly from the salesperson because there was no price tag on that specific drum set.
HOWEVER…. I’M GOING TO ADD TO THIS, Just because you brought it up. You just said your tags don’t ever say “sale” on them? Why is it that we have photos of your drum sets inside YOUR store and you can clearly see “sale” written on the tag with the “sale price?” I’ll actually attach a photo (if not all of them) for your viewing. Wasn’t my issue here wether it said sale on the tag or not…. But, since you brought it up…
Whatever you feel Your overall reputation is, was not necessarily up for debate here… I stated pros and cons of your location. Our boys’ weekly guitar and drum Instructor included you in his list of recommendations. We must have just not had the full experience of what you pride your business on.
As I mentioned…. I felt the employees were as helpful as they could be, your store was clean and well stocked with product. We have made small purchases in your store since this incident, we just know now to be more aware of outside prices when it comes to larger purchases in your store.
One star is too many. I realized after opening the package that I accidentally bought 12-string guitar strings. When I tried to exchange them for the more suitable 6 strings, I was told that once they were open, the sale is final. Speaking of final, that was my last purchase at this store.
Tony Cox
PS– Having no use for the strings, I donated them to the store.
When I went there I wanted a nice sax. So they pulled out a Vito no name sax. Then the yamaha sax was $300 cheaper than the no name. Their staff was really weird too. Don’t spend your money on this company, just go to Discount music supply
19. Old Boise Music Studios
Address: 511 W Main St, Boise, ID 83702 , Fairfield , Idaho , United States
Good ‘ol fashioned service! I broke my son’s guitar string and was in a hurry to have it fixed. Red took care of it immediately and didn’t even charge me. Shop is full of wonderful guitars! Friendly place. Will definitely be going back for any guitar needs. Thanks again, Red.
Red is an amazing musician. He writes music and teaches He is very patient and observant. He sees and helps you solve any problems or difficulties right away so you can make music without a lot of the normal frustrations Don’t hesitate or doubt yourself.
With Reds help and encouragement you can do it!
I take fiddle lessons from Red, there affordable and REALLY helpful. Also he has some really neat instruments in his shop. Go check them out!
