James used to be my piano teacher. Now he is my daughter Skylar’s piano teacher. He is great. He clearly lives teaching how music works and how to learn it better.

Address: 10395 W Colfax Ave, Lakewood, CO 80215 , Golden , Colorado , United States
I don’t write many reviews, but wanted to give a shout out to Brandon at Golden Music. I’ve had a couple interactions with Brandon and he’s extremely approachable. Beginning to play an instrument can be an intimidating affair on its own, let alone asking basic questions to someone who is an expert. Luckily Brandon is genuine, patient, and listens well. Thanks for the great experience, I’ll be back again soon!
While at Golden Music, I worked with an employee named Kelsey. After working with her to discern what type of ukulele would function best for me, she quickly finished the transaction and acted as though she prioritized my time. Overall, Kelsey’s knowledge and experience ensured a very pleasant experience.
Great selection but not the best music store in Denver area.
I’m renting a violin for my daughter for elementary orchestra with Golden Music. At the rental night they were very helpful, informative and patient. One of the owners sized my daughter to make sure that moving her up from her 3/4 to a full sized violin was the right move and then got us all set up! They also deliver to the school or even your house if you don’t live near their store. I’ll update or add a review as we go since we are just beginning to work with them but a great help and service so far!
Took my brand new tenor sax in for an inspection are the end of May 2020 to make sure everything was in good working order from the factory. They told me it would be about a week. 2 weeks later I called to check the status and was told they had to quarantine all horns before working on them. That makes sense during covid craziness but they shouldn’t have lied to me when I took it in.
Two weeks after that, I called again to check the status. Apparently the day after I called the first time they “cleaned it and checked every key” but when they called to tell me I had the audacity to not answer the phone. They didn’t leave a voice message or ever try to call back. When I told them I was pissed about that they tried to blame it on covid! Because apparently the virus changed the way PHONES WORK!
I had decided that I wasn’t going to leave a bad review because I know how hard it can be as a small business owner myself. Then I tried to play my horn. The spring on one of the palm keys was completely out of place. It’s a 30-second fix but I JUST PAID $100 to avoid this exact problem. So basically I paid $100 to have my factory new sax that didn’t need cleaning cleaned and to have someone claim to check it and miss one of the simplest problems a sax can have. In other words they didn’t do crap, took a month to not do crap, and charged me $100 for crap. Even leaving a voice message was too much effort.
I rarely say “I’ll never be back” to a business because we’re all human and mistakes happen but this was over the top. I honestly don’t think they actually did anything and charged me for it.
On a positive note, their prices for accessories are pretty decent.
Update: After leaving a bad review the store did contact me and offer to make it right. I have to give them credit for that. So I upped my rating based on their willingness to do that.
Tried to have them fix my nephews instrument, they called and told me it was too cheap of an instrument to bother fixing. Most insulting customer service I’ve ever had.
Keep a close eye on your account! Three months after receiving an invoice that I fully paid for my instrument they took money out of my account. After calling three times they replied that they messed up but would not honor their invoice. Stay away from them. They are not worth your time or money.
Unfortunately, the service and accuracy of what the employees discussed with me while renting my children’s instruments was not accurate. I had returned my kids instruments within 13 days of renting them with no use and was told no refund of any type would be offered. I argued that that was not what I was told would happen when I rented. The owner was unkind and very rigid. His wife came out and did apologize and did agree to one half refund on one instrument. I kept checking my credit card for the refund which they said would be issued immediately and over a week later I still had to call to get the refund.
5. Rockley Music Center
Address: 4880 N Robb St #1, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 , Golden , Colorado , United States
Love my new piano from Rockley Music Center! Thanks for helping me find my match.
I have been going here since forever and the help is unbelievable. They have great customer service and have a great selection.
Thank you Chris at Rockley for the great communication and responsiveness, and also Michael Mino for his stellar workmanship and professionalism. Michael was a pleasure to work with, and he was able to fix several spots on my piano at home. Now my secondhand grand piano looks almost new!
Appreciate the numerous ideas
this is the closest music store to my house. What a shame, because I wont go there ever again. I wasn’t greeted when I walked through the door. I got a snobby attitude from pretty much everybody, and I had to greet the guy behind the counter because he was too busy playing his guitar. Anyway I went there for some finger tape and some guitar picks. What ever happened to 5 picks for a dollar? Here they charge $5.65 for 12. anyway they didn’t have the correct size finger tape for my violin.
Service is HORRIBLE!! I have been there several times and each time the employees are extremely rude. I suport local business but I’d rather go to Guitar Center than this place.
It was closed when I went there so I really didn’t get a chance to check it out but I will be back there
I drove by Rockley Music today and saw the “STORE CLOSING” sign on the building. I remember going into Rockley music with my parents when I was a kid. My dad still plays guitar and enjoyed going into Spaceman Guitars to see Chris Thomas. When I saw the sign, it concerned me that Spaceman Guitars was closing as well. Thankfully, I found out that they had just moved down the road to their own building located on the north east corner of Colfax and Kipling, right next to Metro PCS. It is sad to see that after almost 70 years Rockley’s is closing their store, but happy to know that Spaceman Guitars is still around for our family, but specifically for my dad because he likes the personal attention he gets from Chris.
Rockley Music has a great selection of sheet music and high-end instruments. They also have some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced any where.
6. Spaceman Guitars
Address: 9797 W Colfax Ave Ste 1B, Lakewood, CO 80215 , Golden , Colorado , United States
Chris did a great job on my Billy Bo bass. Fixed my volume knobs and Input, re strung my strings and tuned for me as well. Very affordable. I will always be going here now for any future repairs or work needed.
Wonderful establishment, great owner, will come back to visit again
Awesome shop for guitars and vinyl albums. Extremely knowledgeable owner and staff. They are super courteous and will happily answer any questions. I highly recommend stopping in and having a peek.
Not the best guitar store ever
Nice place. Had what I needed.
Did a good switch repair for me. Took longer than he said he would minus 1 star. His records are spendy but he does good trades for credit. I will be back for sure.
cannot recommend this place for guitar work. i was quoted a lower price and then charged $20 over the quote. paid for a full set up got a 1/4 set up, took my guitar to another shop and had the work redone. they are friendly and accomodating, but i prefer having work done at a fair price the first time and not having the feeling i was bring taken advantage of- not saying that was the intent, but that is how i left feeling. i tried this place based on all the positive reviews, but there are better places in town that do more careful work at a better price.
Chris is a nice enough guy but I don’t feel like I got what I paid for. I had a suspicion my frets weren’t level due to buzzing so I brought it to him and he did a set up on it. Just a basic setup was quite expensive. I brought it home and it still had buzz. When I took it back to him he said it needed new strings. I was amazed he didn’t notice that during the set up. It just seems he didn’t really take his time with me as a customer and so I will not be going back here. I brought my guitar to a different shop and the tech confirmed my suspicions that there were frets that weren’t level and the neck wasn’t completely straight. Just all around disappointed with the work that was done on my guitar especially at the price I paid.
Not that hot
7. Olde Town Pickin’ Parlor
Address: 7515 Grandview Ave, Arvada, CO 80002 , Golden , Colorado , United States
Great little shop. Their luthiers solidly know their stuff and it’s a great place to get lessons, instruments, strings etc.
Had Josh replace the plastic nut and saddle with custom made bone on my ’78 Sigma D-5. Added K&K mini pickup and full setup. Fantastic results, highly recommend!
Fun concerts! Excellent selection of instruments!
Great little shop offering guitars, mandolins, banjos and a huge variety of stringed instruments both for sale and/or repair. A fun shop to visit, and if you play to try out the various instruments.
They were unwilling to negotiate the price (at all) towards a trade in, which was a bummer. Don’t expect any deals here because you won’t get one. I would come back here if there was a guitar I really wanted, but otherwise there are similar guitars in same or better condition on craigslist for less, and without sales tax. He wanted 2600+ for a Martin HD28v with a crack in it.
I don’t know anything about picking parlor but I must say Olde Town has potential to be great. But…. they tear down way to many old interesting buildings that should be preserved and keep the Olde Town real. And I have to rate downtown a 3 with all the cigarette butts that are littered throughout the entire town! It is DISGUSTING!!!
Owner “Kit” treated me with contempt. No place for kind folks.
I attempted to get my daughters violin finger positions taped prior to her concert tomorrow and the tech person on staff was not able to help but did suggest a couple other shops.
They r rude n loud, they stand outside with there electric guitar so u can hear them 3 blocks away. when asked to turn it down so those of us who have to be close dont go deff, they got verbally violent and turned up the speekers. Making the situation worse. All of this and they wernt even open. Dont shop with here they dont deserve your money!!!
8. Drum City-Guitar Land
Address: 9225 W 44th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 , Golden , Colorado , United States
Packed to the rafters with great gear. Nice knowledgeable people who helped me track down non-standard items.
Only been here once but I can tell ill be going here more
Have purchased 2 guitars from here. The staff are knowledgeable and very helpful when you’re shopping. They have a great selection of gear at every budget, which is all available to see on their website. Both guitars I’ve purchased have been at great prices and set up perfectly by their tech. I’m so glad to have a local store to shop at instead of going to a corporate big-box store. Rock on!
Been there for long time owner is a great guy have nice help packed with all kinds of goodies.
This place is pretty pricey. They say their drum heads are half off but the original price is double of what you would pay everywhere else around town, so you break even.
Great store. Knowledgeable staff. Shop here, not corporate monster stores.
I purchased a guitar from this company for my husband, it was a 7 string Schecter Omen which was something he had been wanting for quite some time so I purchased it as a surprise gift for him. He used the guitar once and the next time he went to play it wasn’t working. We took it to a company that fixes guitars and they informed us that it was a used guitar.. I paid full price for a guitar that was not only USED but BROKE immediately after purchase!! If you’re in the market for a guitar I highly suggest that you search elsewhere. Drum City is not a reliable place to purchase from
I ordered an item online that was in stock that the time of ordering. I even called in the store to confirm. I received an email A WEEK LATER saying my order was canceled because the item was out of stock. First and last time I ever buy from this store.
I came in a few times for a cocktail drum purchase and didn’t find prices that fit my budget (which is fine, it was nice equipment and they’re a used store!). I came back to try and trade things in for accessories instead (bass pedal/Hi-Hat stand) but the trade in value was changed when I got there if I didn’t buy multiple items. Again fair enough, it’s a used shop and they need to make money.
I came yesterday to grab a floor Tom ring and Tim was pretty short with me a bit immature saying “Hey, we finally sold you something!” tried to upsell me on a bass drum head for my new kick and when I was said goodbye, he ignored me while walking away.
I truly do not like to write these messages or send negativity to a used music shop as I had been apart of one for a very long time but if you can’t find me what I’m looking for at a price that is in my range: do not make it my problem and make me feel unwanted. I sent an email addressed to Tim specifically to remedy the situation and I haven’t heard anything back. So I’m writing it here to not treat others this way.
Everyone needs to make money but jeez, don’t run your customers out when they finally find something that works for them with you.
9. Press Play Integration, LLC
Address: 732 Hog Back Dr, Golden, CO 80403 , Golden , Colorado , United States
Thank you PressPlay – Nick, Griffin and John. You exceeded my expectations – professionalism, competency, pricing, appointments, etc.
Initially, Nick and I met at my house where he analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of my existing residential AV system. We agreed on Phase I. PressPlay arrived on time, corrected the issues, replaced only necessary equipment, and taught me how to use the AV system.
I was so pleased with those results, we moved to Phase II. They successfully completed that also.
PressPay deserves a stellar review. I look forward to working with the ‘crew’ long into the future and confidently refer them to clients and friends. In closing, thank you PressPlay.
SG
The Press Play team is great–excellent communication, easy to work with, professional, and they did a wonderful job. I thought their pricing was very fair too.
If I could give Nick and John 10 stars I would. We’ve known them and worked with them for almost a decade and they’ve never failed to impress with their friendliness, their professionalism and their dedication to giving us not only what we wanted, but what we needed. They are always available for help with our questions. I could go on but just use them! You will NEVER be disappointed!
10. Music Go Round
Address: 8055 W Bowles Ave #2C, Littleton, CO 80123 , Golden , Colorado , United States
Workers there are very helpful. I get all the tools I need for guitars, basses, and drums there with good pricing for used parts.
Been shopping here for years. I’ve bought my guitars, most of my pedals, strings, MIDI’s, mixers, and microphones here. Great place to pick up used, quality gear. Store comes equipped with a knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Have yet to have an experience that was other than very supportive, friendly and informative. Have bought and traded quite a bit and have only positive things to say. Thanks Guys! RaWk
I had high hopes but just wasn’t impressed. Compared to the Aurora location, this store falls short.
The guitar area was decent with everything displayed nicely but the biggest disappointment was the amps. All the amps we’re covered in dust and we’re absolutely filthy compared to any other store I’ve been to. NONE of the amps were plugged into the power strips so you had to ask for all the cords and power cables just to try anything. That made trying to really test the sound of any guitar a nightmare.
The acoustic room was decent but everything good was locked up so one really couldn’t try much without assistance.
The keyboard section was ok but they definitely needed to be cleaned and at least plugged in for one to try.
The glass cases displaying pedals, audio interfaces, microphones and other accessories was good and decently organized.
All in all, it’s an ok store, but some serious attention needs to be paid to the presentation of all items, ESPECIALLY the guitar amps. All items need to be thoroughly cleaned and then put out on the floor with proper presentation with included power cables so every piece can be tested by the customer. No one wants to have to ask for all the missing pieces just to try something out.
Great shop! You can expect to pay a little more than average for used fear here, but they are VERY thorough with inspections before they buy. You can trust you will get good gear. Use as a last resort for selling though. They will give you next to nothing for your used gear. They have to make money right. Overall, staff is very friendly and helpful and new gear rolls in pretty consistently which is good and bad news for those of us with incorrigible G.A.S.
Musical Go Round is a great place to find certain used gear at a decent price if you know what you are looking for. It is a fun place to look around. I have bought guitars, sound and drum gear over there. I like the fact that they have a variety of instruments / other gear there too. They also do guitar set ups here too. I have to give Doug props for making my old Squire Affinity play nice again.
Do not buy anything used. The warranty is only good for sore credit. They sell you something broken or on the edge of broken and then you can only get store credit. The staff is very friendly and helpful but the used products are poor quality and worthless. I lost $200 to this store. The USB midi port did not work at all, wouldn’t even turn on. The akai mpk-25 controller stopped working properly after one month. I took very good care of these items. I would not waste your time on this scamming “must-be struggling” establishment. Especially if you are serious about music.
I wish this place was cool, but the prices are a little too high, the trade-in value is half of what you’d sell on Craigslist/Facebook, and the staff couldn’t care less. Nice browsing opportunity though.
Edit for owner: thanks for your response, I “understand” now.
I stand by my opinion. Best of luck.
Inquired about, and tested an amp, (The Roland Bolt-60) it wasn’t acting correctly so I mentioned it to them. It appears to have some grounding issues, making noise from filter capacitors most likely, as well as issues with the pots. I was still interested in it, however rather than correct their advertisement and pricing, or repair the amp, they told me to forget about it and that they wouldn’t be repairing it.
If this is how they handle broken products and continue to sell them in states of disrepair. This might serve as a good warning. I would worry about other products without completely testing it, and potentially having a second opinion.
11. Flesher Hinton Music
Address: 5890 W 44th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80212 , Golden , Colorado , United States
For those who think Flesher Hinton Music is no longer serving the public with their wide selection of music services and supplies, I have some great news for you! They are still in business in Wheat Ridge on 44th Avenue near Harlan Street. If they don’t have what you need in stock, they will go the extra mile to find what you need. Check them out and discover for yourself how they can fulfill your musical needs.
Cool music store for sure. The floor guy was very helpful in answering questions about my saxophone and the repair guys were AWESOME. Prior, I took my 25 year old alto somewhere else to get repaired. It didn’t seem right so I dropped by flesher. They pointed out all kinds of neglected leaks and loose springs. It got corrected at a reasonable price and it plays great. Should have went here first.
I have had excellent service for some years. I got a free sticker for a new instrument case. They have also repaired my clarinet plenty of times. These repairs have lasted for years.
There’s parking at the new location. Really reasonably priced supplies. Not the best selection for buying instruments though. Since their relocation, seems they’re putting more emphasis on instrument repair. Still probably the best music supply shop in the area
Like always the services people were just great.
The people employees are professional, knowledgeable, and ready to help!
As with any store like this, you can expect them to be salesmen, though they don’t push too hard and don’t avoid helping you find the lowest priced items.
The technicians are great, but I wish they had a bit more enthusiasm.
If you are testing out brass instruments or such, the practice room they put me in had too much reverb to get accurate samples, even with a recording device. I have yet to ask if they had a more acoustically dry room.
They can order sheet music and products, and have all the basics and many accessories for band musicians.
Went in to check out acoustic guitars earlier today. Got an important call as I was about to tune a guitar I was checking out and the guy behind the counter just starts blowing into some sort of wind instrument seemingly deliberately because taking a quick phone call. So I hung up the guitar and just walked out.
But the guy who welcomed me when I walked in seemed nice.
Just terrible experience! Purchased a new wood clarinet 5 months ago. Found out it was cracking, unfortunately happens if not taken care of, but not in the first 5 months.
Took 2+ months to fix, when we finally picked it up, some old guy in the store started telling my 16 year old daughter about keeping it greased every six months- lecturing her because it was so dried out! Finally stepped in and told him…we bought it here less than 5 months ago…in other words, you sold an old dried out clarinet for $2000.00. Will never ever step foot in this store again d/t the service dept.
12. FYE
Address: 14500 W Colfax Ave Space 447, Lakewood, CO 80401 , Golden , Colorado , United States
Really liked the 80s themed stuff here brings back memories.
Great place to find physical media, they have a pretty good selection and a good staff.
Came to find something BTS. Not too many things, but they had what we were looking for
Didn’t have the new remastered Pink Floyd Animals cd …
Lots of great stuff! Wish they would have told me the VIP pass isn’t like rewards but something you pay for after the first month…
PLEASE READ before you shop there: the cashier was really pushy for me to sign up for their “Free” membership program, I asked multiple times if it was really free since it sounded too good to be true. They assured me it was “completely free” and after they signed me up I read the fine print, they will charge you $11.99 after a 30 day trial! And to top it off they sign you up for a magazine subscription without your consent which will go for an entire year if you don’t cancel it right away! Truly Unbelievable and super shady practices. I will never shop here again.
They have horrible customer service. The hours aren’t correct so don’t expect them to be open because they open and close when they feel like it. Some things are overpriced. I would definitely recommend looking at your receipt carefully because they will overcharge you and hope you don’t see it.
Stole my cc information! Reported to capital one and rolling stone. they will lie to you here!
