Best music store on this island-prices are so good, and everything is of high quality! I don’t shop anywhere else.
My finger picks order arrived promptly, and was competively priced. Very pleased with my purchase, thank you!
Loving my sapele ‘ukulele! Mahalo.
Be careful. They have a fickle return policy and they replaced my strings with the wrong ones. I didn’t know my uke could sound bad until it left Kalena. My fiance took it there as a gift to be restrung and you were also rude to her and said that 14 days means less than 2 weeks. You being a musician shop is suspicious. I don’t think you should replace strings if you don’t know how to do it
Bought the ” toy” violin for Christmas which was advertised as high quality. Cost me $40. It was awful. Couldnt play a single note on it. The bow is complete garbage and the resin was as hard as a rock so it couldn’t be used with the plastic bow strings provided.
Would never recommend this place to anyone. The guy that works there made me feel so offended.

My father retired from the army, which explains why we used to frequently shop there together as a family. In order to enter, however, you must have a valid military ID.
Being.prolior service military I understand that this is not a mall. It is a PX, and as far as PX’s go its good.
Lots and lots of items to pick and choose for everyday living
not great, not bad just really limited hours
Newly renovated.Pros everything is in one building now, except furniture. Furniture is in the single floor main building. Cons, really short staff with associates and cashier’s.
Why is a bx more than on the outside?
Took 20 minutes for a customer service to help us. Had to call the main Px number to send someone up. Poor service.
Small and lacking variety
The gate security there are talking to much inside the shack instead of opening the other entrances during the morning shift.
6. Hickam Arts & Crafts Center
Address: 335 Kuntz Ave, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, HI 96853 , Hickam Field , Hawaii , United States
This place has to be one of the best deals on the island in regards to picture framing. They are very helpful, knowledgeable, and quick when it comes to setting up your picture frame. I have heard similar opinions from my neighbors regarding the ceramics and wood working sections as well. I will definitely be back!
My daughter and I enjoyed painting a ceramic together .
Nice frame shop available to frame your prints, paintings, at a reasonable cost. They even make shadow boxes, if you are interested in one.
Good place
Actually was there for the trophy shop but had to cash out at the A&C Center as the POS was down. A&C was nice but it seems they don’t have as much as before. They are getting ready to discontinue their cricut line. They don’t take cash any more but they’re still writing receipt up manually and they swipe your cc. Seems a bit behind the rest of the retail world.
Do not listen to the time on here they dont open until 10am
7. Pacific Ukulele
Address: 99-500 Salt Lake Blvd, Honolulu, HI 96818 , Hickam Field , Hawaii , United States
I got two custom laser engraved ukulele’s for my sons. The owner was helpful when I was deciding what fonts to use. They showed me drafts of the design before engraving. Glad to see a local ukulele business.
Hands down the best gift I’ve ever purchased for my music loving daughter. The owner was awesome!
When my family and I visited Hawaii last winter, we saw Pacific Ukulele store at the stadium. We bought one concert ukulele there and we brought it back home. My only regret is that we could not get a lasered one due to us leaving Hawaii. However, I just noticed that they had a website and I ordered a customized option. It arrived from Hawaii in 2 days! I also asked and received a coupon as a returning customer. I recommend this store to any ukulele lovers, also, don’t be afraid to message and ask for coupons, the owner is awesome.
My husband shops here for all of his guitar needs. Ceddie is always very helpful and patient with helping you find what you need.
Customer service is top notch, try anything, be your best, this place supports your passion
Awesome stock and clean store, great for beginners through experts. Highly recommend for those interested in learning guitar, drums, pianos, or electric sound boards. Great staff who are knowledgeable and friendly. Got my guitar from here, and got it cleaned, re-strung, toned.
It would be nice if their used gear inventory was added to the main site. For some reason, not even entering the zip code on the page sends you to their virtual store. It would be a five star experience if they get the help from corporate and fix that. I mean, they opened more than a year ago, it should have been fixed already.
Update: since this review, they have some inventory online. I went the other days personally, got home and saw some equipment I’m interested in on sale. I know the equipment is in stock because I literally just saw it. I tried ordering online for curb pick up and it said 3-5 shipping. Again, if they had their inventory online it would be a 5 star experience.
They need to sell tote bags if they don’t offer bags for purchases. Adam the clerk was not very helpful, when I asked for a bag for my purchased items (a guitar stand, books ,strap for my bass), it is difficult as a person with disabilities, and just seemed interested in when I was going to pay for my items.
Customer service was unfortunately lacking
Really helpful staff. They will take the time to answer your questions and help you with your shopping.
Been trying to get an associate to answer their phone for the past 5 day with no luck. Simply trying to find out if they carry a certain product before driving down from Hawaii Kai. Must be always super busy or super short short handed, Bummer!!
I was disappointed in the lack of equipment for ukulele, there was no options available for tenor ukulele.
Try and call them right now and see how many rings it takes! Also, if you DO happen to talk to somebody they will say “that’s not my department” and ask for your number to call you back which never happens! (Several times now) Seriously I was ready to spend thousands on an electronic drum-set and NOBODY bothered to help me or answer important questions. I went in the store twice and its as if they are all out to lunch or on a break. They Lost a $5,500 sale.

IF YOU SHOULD REQUIRE ANY REPAIRS AT ALL, MAKE THE WISE CHOICE, THE BEST CHOICE, AND GRADE A SERVICE FOR THE ISLAND OF OAH !!
The owner’s great, hooked me up with an awesome deal on a used Martin acoustic and threw in some picks and a strap for free. 100% recommend!
I came to Westside Music Hawaii because I was looking for a Kala brand concert sized uke. I was very happy to be welcomed by friendly people and they have a wide selection of brands and models. My new Kala KA-CE is awesome and I LOVE it so much! I’m very satisfied with my purchase. I’d definitely recommend this store if you are looking for ukes and guitars. Thank You WestSide Music!
Employee was helpful, knowledgeable about music instrument. Park right in front of store
They had what I needed
Good, helpful and had all what we needed.

I had an exceptional customer experience that totally exceeded my expectations. Just last week, during new expanded opening rules, I needed to quickly receive some help for my son. He just got issued his new instrument, and it wasn’t working. Anju took my call, calmly walked me through some steps. When those didn’t work, she asked us to come in. Twenty minutes later she came back instrument FIXED . Thank you!
Pretty good music store. Large selection. Helpful staff.
Great place to go for musical instruments. Very friendly service and knowledgeable. Great way to support a local business.
It’s ok however the staff seem preoccupied with other things at the last four times I was there, I spent over a thousand dollars one time and my Taylor acoustic electric guitar was not off alignment so I wanted to trade it a day later and they gave me the run around. Plus I bought strings that were defected there were no lock pins on two of the strings in the set of six.
Very uncomfortable shopping there I guess I wasn’t somebody famous so they need help we have a pocket full of cash I wanted to spend unfortunately the staff was lame so I didn’t spend my cash there. I ended up at Hot Licks and spent about 2 Grand don’t judge a book by its cover
Close to early
Don’t come here to buy your first instrument, this place is apparently experts only. I came in planning to drop about $100 on my first uke, and I had a few questions. At the door I wasn’t greeted so much as frisked; I thought they were going to ask me to take off my belt, shoes, and jewelry too. Apart from TSA door guy, I never saw any other employees. One guy was playing a guitar, but I couldn’t tell if he worked there, and he looked pretty into the guitar so I didn’t feel comfortable interrupting anyway. Do musicians not ever need help? Are they too cool to ask questions? I guess I’ll never know.
This was my first experience in a music store, and I don’t think I’ll go in one again, as it was intimidating and uncomfortable. Looks like I’ll be getting my first uke from amazon, chosen based on reviews.
17. Sonny D ʻUkuleles
Address: 94-164 Awalau St C, Waipahu, HI 96797 , Hickam Field , Hawaii , United States
Love going there I learn a lot about ukuleles from him. His instruments are beautiful as we as beautiful sounding.
Great ukes. Very personal attention to his customers.
Sonny and his son Duane were friendly and showed me some great ukes. Now i have two ukes from Sonny D. Absolutely amazing sound.
, I’m not sure why but the quality isn’t as good as it used to be I have several Sonny D ukulele I want to go buy a new one but I couldn’t find one that was a very good quality the price was more expensive then the ones I bought before but the quality was definitely lacking . Ended up with a kamaka…
18. Chuck James Music School
Address: 4510 Salt Lake Blvd, Honolulu, HI 96818 , Hickam Field , Hawaii , United States
I took clarinet lessons with Aaron Aranita and was completely satisfied. He is patient and very kind. I imagine he’d be great with kids. Summer at the front desk is delightful and accommodating. Very happy I found this school.
My son has been taking piano with Ms. Emily for almost 4 yrs. He learned so much from her. She always pushed him to do his best. Summer at the front desk was always friendly. She was on top of everything and always so accommodating when I needed to reschedule. My son is stopping for now because of his crazy schedule but I hope for him to return eventually. Thank you for everything!!
Our family loves Chuck James. Over the past 13 years my children have played several different instruments. We always have a great teachers. The staff is always helpful as well! Highly recommend!
I like that it is convenient and that the teachers are generally giving the right amount of challenge vs. fun. I would love to see the studio offer more opportunities for students to play together, whether in a chamber, band, or more recitals.
We had a voice lesson with Ms. Emily to prepare for her school musical. She was knowledgeable and helpful!
19. Hickam Thrift Shop
Address: 540 Kuntz Ave, Honolulu, HI 96818 , Hickam Field , Hawaii , United States
Every trip is hit or miss if you’ll find what you want or need but theres always a lot to sort through. Many unique items, the prices are always low. Just a bit cramped.
You can always find good deals for what you need and want.
Check out their monthly deals as well as deals of the day (that they’re open).
Books & crafting items, clothing/shoes/accessories for all ages, housewares, outdoor recreation items (bikes, sports, lawn chairs) toys….all at low cost.
Crazy hours but you could find useful stuff
Well organized displays
Used stuff at good prices. Nothing really exciting.
Often closed when all other indications (Facebook, door, phone voicemail) say they’re open.
You must pass Hickam front gate. NO VISITORS ALLOWED.
Not open the hours they say..
20. Goodguys Music & Sound LLC
Address: 619 Kapahulu Ave, Honolulu, HI 96815 , Hickam Field , Hawaii , United States
Not the biggest but was equipped with good guitars
Won’t shop in a place requiring a mask. even though I have bought stuff in there back during the time that covid was new and there were no mask mandates. Sad truth is I try to shop small local stores especially for music equipment but I will not be available to shop here anymor.
Bought a pedal there while holidaying in Hawaii, it occurred to me the next day I should buy a good ol’ American pedal, instead of a Chinese pedal, ecspecially while in the states. The staff didnt feel the same, and seemed that it was a big deal to make an exchange. I wouldn’t go back.
