So during this pandemic we are dealing with I felt myself wanting to start jamming again. So with almost every retail store being closed and having to rely on online and waiting, (I’m not patient, lol) I took a shot to see if any guitar stores were possibly doing curbside in Ct. Found the music shop in southington,ct was doing curbside. Upon calling I spoke with Scott, great customer service!! After talking to Scott about my music style and and what I was looking for, within 20 mins I had received pictures and fell in love with what scott suggested. Normally when I buy a guitar, its multiple guitars i play and usually takes a couple hours to choose. Let me tell you scott nailed it!!!! The guitar, an ibanez art120 and a 75watt peavey amp with effects and cab sounds built in…and let me tell you both products are hands down amazing!!! On top of that within 20 mins he threw a new set of strings on and did a full setup!!!! Totally worth the hour and a half ride!!!! These guys rock, thanks again scott!!!!!!!
Used to go to guitar center all the time till one day the worker wasn’t there, gave a chance over here and wasn’t disappointed! Gave me help on my Billie joe Armstrong replica by installing a new neck and saddles and I have to say this has to be the best set up I’ve ever played, I feel like I’m playing a custom shop on a squier! Such great help, friendly faces and now my go to for setups and help! Have a custom Strat there being worked on and I can’t tell you how tired there gonna get of me bringing in guitar after guitar to get setup in my collection one comes back to me and I give them another the same visit haha, thank you Scott, Jackson and Tyler!! Feels like a family and not business and that’s the best type!

Cannot saying anything negative about the Music Shop. I always recommend you to friends and family. My experience has been positive. Your staff is friendly and always helpful. My teacher amazing. I’ll miss my lessons but will stop in now an then when I need something. Sincerely, Claudia “
The cellos were in not in good shape and we had to pay a luthiere to redo repairs that were poorly done when we received the instrument.
Great place but website could be better such as pics of some used equipment. I’m a drummer and would like to see what they have for new and used cymbals, stands, drum kits etc. And prices. I have done business with them and always had a great experience the reason for three stars is the website doesn’t do the music shop justice. All and all great store great people.

Came here for some guitar strings and the employee was super awesome
Gil is a super friendly guy! My son really enjoys guitar lessons with him!
Very knowledgeable and friendly.
My daughter is signed up for lessons and her teacher is great (I hear the others are as well). Just try not to deal with the guy that owns it.
Arrived at 10:00am (they open at 10am, but not today). I waited and they finally arrived. All I needed was guitar strings, but they had none. What a waste of time.
I tried to return my daughter’s Viola due to the school no longer providing classes. It was a total nightmare to get an answer in regards to my credit. They are very irresponsible and I am very disappointed by the lack of care towards my return which was even misplaced! Mom and dad are not helpful at all and he should really look at keeping them home, they make things worse!

My Mom has not played her violin for well over 45 years. She and my daughter visited The Music Shop for the first time today and were very pleasantly surprised at the warm welcome and down home kindness that were shown to them. The owner helped her string her violin and now she can pursue her hobby once again. She told me, “It made my day and gave me back the gift of music to fill an empty spot I have had for a long, long time!”
Throughout the years I have purchased guitars, and Equitment,. We miss Leo. He was the music teacher at Lewis S Mills High School in the 70’s. To ?. I graduated in 72. Great music shop. Get just about anything musical.
4. Acoustic Music
Address: 4 Maple St, Chester, CT 06412 , Horia , Connecticut , United States
Highest quality guitars, sold by a great staff at very competitive prices!
Had one of the best shopping experiences I’ve ever had. Knowledgeable. Passionate about music. Really took the time to show me the nuances of the guitars for sale. Can’t say enough positive. A++++++++++
Had a guitar cable when I needed it.
Thé Owners are lousy business
No prices listed
Not many mandolins
5. Turnpike Music Garage
Address: 1485 Black Rock Tpke, Fairfield, CT 06825 , Horia , Connecticut , United States
Friendly staff and good price for instrument rentals.
I have taken my guitar and bass here to be setup a few times. I was very happy with the time it took and the results. It averaged about a week for the turnaround and the playability was great. I can’t speak for the lessons or major repair work, but for simple things this guitar/music shop is perfect.
All ways the best
A little hard to find, but owner was very helpful in my search for a solid-woods Classical guitar. Looked at a very nice A/Yari. Has some nice guitars, but he is limited by space constraints. If the f-ups in Washington and the greedy sob’s on Wall St would all drop dead, this store would have a good chance of growing.
Had an excellent selection of strings. Plan on visiting again soon.
I got My sons cello at this store and the bridge was broken and the stand
6. Middlesex Music Academy
Address: 440 Main St, Middletown, CT 06457 , Horia , Connecticut , United States
Highly recommend for instrument repairs. Staff was knowledgeable and helpful. Got my sax playing like new again for a very reasonable price in 4 days. I will be back here.
Great place for music lessons and to try out instruments! Has recently been expanded to accommodate more students.
Yesterday we went in to rent an instrument for my 4th grader starting band and I can’t speak enough on how smooth and easy the process was! When we walked in we were greeted by Jim, who immediately knew everything we needed and even our band teacher by name (impressive!). Our son can tend to be a bit shy but the charm of this place seemed to make him feel right at home! If I had to I would say the whole interaction took all of about 10 minutes and we were on our way. Definitely recommending this place to anyone I know looking for help with an instrument, thanks again!
The sales team made it possible for me to afford a piano for my son
I would give Middlesex Music Academy a 0 if I was able to. I called to inquire about a $150 charge when I haven‘t been confirmed by John the guitar teacher. I made a request to Matt that Tuesday was my preference but John was booked so he scheduled Thursday at 6pm. I received a text and email from John yesterday that he had a conflict for Thursday and offered Friday. I responded via text/email that would not work and inquired if this was temporary or permanent to which I did not receive a response. I let John know this may not be a good fit then. I called today to have the charge refunded and Jim proceeded to call me names, saying I was yelling & screaming over the phone and I was being rude. No need to go into the dramatics but Jim needs a lesson in manners, telling the truth and understanding that being a manager does not give him the authority to behave poorly. Never once did I raise my voice but did correct Jim several times throughout the conversation all because i asked for a refund. Extremely unprofessional and a bad look for Middlesex Music all around. I will be taking my business elsewhere. Inexcusable & theater worthy performance by Jim today folks!!!
I signed up for a piano lesson trial online. Their site is very confusing and it’s not clear if the lesson is in-person and online. I called them, left a message but they never called me back. In the day/time of the lesson, I called them 3 times because I was having problems to contact the teacher. The guy who works there, Jim, clearly doesn’t have any customer service skills. He was rude and unpleasant. He didn’t make any effort to help me, told me a was confused and nobody else had problems. I just canceled the future lessons there. It’s easier just hire a private piano teacher. Hopefully I will never have to deal with this guy again.
I paid $80 for a setup on a guitar and got it back with the strings a mile off of the neck and the floyd rose studs so high out of the body I could park a car under it. The bridge pickup was raised until it was practically touching the strings and the neck pickup was lowered to below the pickup ring. The tech then told me that 10-52 strings don’t exist. They’re light top heavy bottom and aren’t even uncommon strings. Every time I go there they give bad advice and clearly don’t know what they’re talking about. My friend tried to buy a tubescreamer (basic overdrive) and they tried to sell him a phaser instead (completely different thing).
7. Bethel Music Center – Instrument Sales, Rentals, Lessons and Repairs
Address: 273 Greenwood Ave #101, Bethel, CT 06801 , Horia , Connecticut , United States
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great for helping kiddos when mom and dad are not musically inclined. Highly recommend.
Thanks to Sarah, I was able to get a mouthpiece while being 2.5 hours away from home on a gig where I left my mouthpiece pouch. Came through in the clutch for me with a shew lead piece.
Very friendly and knowledgeable personal.
Just stopped by quick. Had a great hour. They are the best
Good info from employees
Instrument rentals are great for their prices
8. Guitar Center
Address: 50 Boston Post Rd, Orange, CT 06477 , Horia , Connecticut , United States
Good for guitars and drums, but not other string instruments
I had the ‘pleasure’ (NIGHTMARE) of trying to locate some pro audio gear that is in short supply due to covid. Thanks to Asst. Manager Orrieon (apologies if I misspelled that) we were able to locate what I needed to make the show happen! He was extremely professional, knowledgeable and easy to talk to! He bent over backwards to get what I needed and came through for me! This guy deserves a raise.
Not many people there to help with your needs
I have been a regular customer at this establishment for several years now, and unfortunately I had a very poor experience tonight. I went to the store to rent out one of the practice rooms, and the customer service I received was very disappointing. After asking to use the room a few times, I was continuously put off impatiently for up to 25 minutes. After finally being attended, I was charged double the regular rate (20 dollars instead of 10). Very unhappy with this experience.
It’s ok. Not a great selection of premium instruments, and considering the size of the place I’d expect more variety of almost everything. They need to learn how to pack a music store like the independent guys do — but they’re hard to find these days…
As soon as the sales person (once I was able to get ahold of one) caught onto that I wasn’t Steve Vai or interested in spending thousands of dollars, he quickly lost interest. I did end up making a purchase but the guy made me feel I was a huge inconvenience.
Guitar Center Orange CT. I was waiting to be helped behind a customer that was checking out. During the time it took to check her out someone came up behind me that was playing a bass guitar obviously looking to purchase it. When the sales person finished helping out the lady in front of me she bypassed me to help the person who walked up after me. Because of this act that I believe to be rude I walked out without making a purchase and will now buy my musical instruments on Amazon. If I do go back to that store it will just be to test drive equipment that I will than purchase online.
Went with my husband to buy a guitar for him. Called ahead of time and confirmed this guitar was there. We were checking out but found out it was missing the certificate. Inquired about it, turned out that the guitar was not new and was previously owned and returned without the certificate. They did not label the guitar as used gear and tried to play it off as if it was no big deal about being priced as new, priced above their online price and without the certificate. Meanwhile, before we found all this out, the guy at the register is just playing the guitar we assume is new awaiting to buy.
Overall was just not a great experience and their dishonesty about what they are selling will be reasons we do not go back to this store.
9. DuBaldo Music Center
Address: 881 Main St, Manchester, CT 06040 , Horia , Connecticut , United States
Fantastic service, fast shipping, and competitive pricing.
That was likely the most pleasant guitar buying experience I have ever had. I could not recommend patronizing this amazing store more. Thank you so much!!
Great store! Love the selection of Ernie Ball Music Man instruments.
Great service
10. Sam Ash Music Stores
Address: 95 Amity Rd, New Haven, CT 06515 , Horia , Connecticut , United States
Very helpful staff in assisting with purchasing a trumpet for my son–3000 miles away from their store.
Limited
Same as always.knowledgable staff.good selection of musical needs.
Great place. Zach Stout is an amazing and knowledgable saleseman!!
No one greeted me and asked if I needed help.
Used to be a great place to go browse.. now it’s like walking onto a used car lot.. within ten minutes I had 6 people asking if they could show me anything, one guy asking me twice.. I was only planning on buying a guitar stand, but was so annoyed I went elsewhere….
Drove 25 minutes to the store only to find out it doesn’t open until noon. Utterly rudiculous! Just close your doors for good if you’re going to have such restrictive hours!
11. Guitar Center
Address: 839 Queen St, Southington, CT 06489 , Horia , Connecticut , United States
I get to try out stuff and sometimes buy from there but prefer my local music store, Music and Arts. They are second favorite but great nonetheless
I love this place! My boys too. Some days when we are bored we go to Southington’s GC just to see what’s going on and we try always to buy something. At least it would be a pack of the guitar picks or strings. I cannot say the same for the SamAsh store like some people down below. As an example I was at SamAsh the other day to see Squier Starcaster Classic Vibe. I loved it, but I couldn’t stand the attitude of that sales person. So, instead to buy it from them I decided to go to my favorite place – Guitar Center in Southington and buy it (order) from them. There was my favorite salesman Ray, which I know since the time when he was working at GC Orange, CT, when I bought my first Strat from him. Ever since Ray sold me total of four wonderful guitars. He is always super nice and very helpful. I would say that most of those guys are very friendly and willing to help, and if there is someone with that lousy attitude I could imagine those younger kids which still need some experience in working with the people (customers). Guys like Ray or Mike are the roll models to all new employees how to treat the customers. Other than that I recommend this place to everyone. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
These guys are fantastic. They always have the stuff and knowledge I’m looking for whenever I go in
Great place
Ray and Mike are the best, however I wish you guys still carried aquarian drum heads still
Fun to go here and play all the instruments
Terrible customer service. I ordered an item on January 26. I was told the item would ship to the store in a couple days. I waited for a week and a half and i heard nothing. I called the store today and the lady that helped me (on January 26) said she would call the other store to see what the update was then she would call me back. I waited an hour then called the store back. The guy on the phone told me that the lady went on break. I told him to tell her to call me back once she got off break. 4 hours later and I received no call back. I finally called the store and asked for a refund. In addition to this hassle; I never received a confirmation email for the item ordered. So, yeah terrible service. I’ll never come back.
Customer service at this location is garbage. Maybe punk kid could stay off his phone long enough to complete the sales transaction.
Great store, great people, corporate on the other hand. (I’ve personally spent thousands over the years) But buyer beware, as the closer to the holiday, the higher the prices climb. Buy early or pay more.
