It’s was a very nice bookstore. Would highly recommend. Very warm and cozy
Loved being able to checkout a local bookshop and find a book that I was looking for! I loved how they displayed their books & the vibe in there was relaxed 🙂
The staff was very kind and helpful in picking out more personal Christmas gifts for family back home.
Lovely and inviting, a really good small-town bookshop. It was open on a Monday when the shop’s hours said they should be closed, so it was an unexpected surprise.
No café on site right now, though there were coffee machines in a closed-off corner used for storage, making me think this may be due to COVID.
The book selection is somewhat limited by the small space, but the offerings were well thought out and had lots of variety. I picked up four books, including one as a gift, plus locally made stickers, spending about $130.
3. The Rookery
Address: 103 Center St, Kodiak, AK 99615 , Kodiak , Alaska , United States
Wide variety of yarns, crafting textiles and instructional books. New inventory added frequently and the owner Chris offers classes that are easy to follow for beginners and experts alike. Definately a must see for anyone enjoying knitting, crocheting etc.!!
Super varied stock. The owner is helpful and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend a trip here if you’re a yarn crafter. Extremely organized. Regular sales.
Awesome people. Knowledgeable. An excellent variety in yarn. You won’t want to leave even if you don’t know the craft.
A store in Kodiak, Alaska.
Its really quiet/awkward it could definitely benefit from low music playing but other then that its a great crafts store
Not open when website says……… seems to be never open….. how they manage to make money I don’t know…..
4. Harborside Coffee & Goods
Address: 210 Shelikof St # B, Kodiak, AK 99615 , Kodiak , Alaska , United States
Stopped into Harborside before heading out for a day of fishing. Delicious coffee and Maya our barista was very helpful in recommending some drinks for us. The breakfast burritos here are also very tasty. Absolutely no complaints and we will definitely be back the next time we’re in Kodiak!
Espresso shakes are on point and their wheel watch blend coffee is hands down the best coffee I believe I have ever had out of a personal coffee maker.. they will continue to have my service any time I visit and hopefully I can order their coffee and have it shipped.. great customer service every time I have been there over the last 3 weeks and every barista wore a smile and was friendly..
great cup o joe
Found by accident on a rainy day. Good coffee friendly staff and guests. Great place to hang out or a quick visit.
Good cups of caffeine and delicious nibbles.
Poor service and food
So my friend and I go there every other days service was good until today. We would usually buy at least 5 drinks every time we go. So today we bought 7. We asked for a cup holder and the girl said they ran out. So we had to find something to put all those drink in. We wasn’t informed in the beginning that they didn’t. I get it they ran out understand able. So we left than we realized that we forgot one drink. I don’t know if they forgot also but when I called and told them the situation the manager told me I can come back but I would have to pay for it. Like wow really I have to pay for something I already paid for and didn’t get. Most likely will not return unless I really have to.
5. Walmart
Address: 2911 Mill Bay Rd, Kodiak, AK 99615 , Kodiak , Alaska , United States
Workers everywhere. Except for when you need assistance. Poor customer service and representation.
Newly remodeled and is bigger with more options to products. The ability to ask employees on the floor has been an issue in the past, if you can find one that is! Lol
Not very many frozen or refridgerated groceries.
Typical Walmart… We’ll stocked with cheap goods from China.
It’s Walmart..
A HUGE lack in customer service as well as communication skills as the cashiers show a disconcern in understanding any kind of questions. There are 9 check out lanes. No matter what time of day I have never seen more than 4 being used while lines of people stand by idle looking either distressed or numb with excepting this as the usual norm.
6. Salvation Army Corps Community Center
Address: 1855 Mission Rd, Kodiak, AK 99615 , Kodiak , Alaska , United States
Very nice hotel. Great food. Price is par for the course given all the food in Ak is ridiculously expensive. Would stay there anytime.
Love Wednesday night burger and Brew.
The Chart Room is the dining area of this hotel and Wednesday night is burger and brew night. It is never a disappointment.
Dated hotel that does not get concept of convention center. We had large group and never got a contract or anything on who would come and verify information, all done on emails and the response was not always good. This places needs some updates badly.
This hotel is a dump that is run down and over priced. Its management and staff is real bad.
Find a good B&B rather than stay at this place. It needs to be destroyed and a new hotel building. I was going to stay 7 nights, but cut it back to 4 nights. Its not a nice place to stay…..
It started with waiting almost 45 minutes to get a shuttle from airport. They didn’t clean our room for 5 days due to Covid. We did get new towels after asking, but made our beds everyday. Every night, our bathroom filled up with the stench of marijuana. The continental breakfast was always cold with rubbery eggs. The outside temp was 55, but the room would heat up to 75 with heater off. The food at the Chart Room was very good, but bar staff very slow. Not a great experience.
Overpriced. Impossible to get the temp below 75°… thermostat was inaccurate, headboard hung haphazardly and not secure, bacon is only served 4x a week and rationed for all 7 days, so get to the breakfast bar early of you want more than powered eggs and dry cereal. The generic, non-TV-compatible remote didn’t work and there were 0 premium channels. The coffee is terrible and watered down. Carpet (hopefully they will clean it this millennium) and hallways gave “The Shining” vibes. Smelled like taxidermy. We’ve stayed in much better Best Westerns so this was truly a disappointment for $250/night. Feels like they are ripping off the locals. One bright spot: The front desk and service staff. Everyone was friendly and very helpful, but sadly it didn’t make up for the awful accomodations.
Rooms: The worst and absolutely not worth even 1/2 the price.
8. Redbox
Address: 2685 Mill Bay Rd, Kodiak, AK 99615 , Kodiak , Alaska , United States
Hidden gem! Beautiful furniture is just the begining! So many wonderful decorating items, body products, kitchenware, musical instruments, clothing and even a hair salon! Amazing customer service and coffee in a real cup (and it was tasty coffee too!) So many reasons I will be returning.
Love this eclectic place
I have shopped there many times, the items are expensive but I feel that you get what you pay for. Also they will price match anywhere in the state. When you add up the shipping you pay from somewhere else many times they are the same price or even less than places off island. The new owners have really made the store warm and comforting and they always have a great attitude when I come in. I try to shop local as much as possible and this store makes it easy to want to do that.
Just ok. Sort of has that furniture box store feel. The staff are super friendly however.
Way over priced, wall clocks that you can buy at Hobby Lobby for 50. Or 60. Dollars, cost well over 200. Dollars, the prices on rest is just as bad.
10. Million Recipes
Address: 117 Lower Mill Bay Rd, Kodiak, AK 99615 , Kodiak , Alaska , United States
If you want a great balanced meal using Kodiak ingredients this is the spot! This is also the only place I know of in town that actually uses eco-friendly biodegradable to-go packaging. Awesome to support a local business that supports other businesses and our beautiful environment.
The shrimp po’boy was excellent with a amazing sauce and the bread roll was super fresh.
Meat, vegan, and gluten free options.
Delicious local food
Vegetarian options: Tried the recommended Philly cheesesteak in a portobello mushroom. Also tried the shrimp.
Great food truck in Kodiak…next to the Brewery in town! Awesome. Highly recommended combo place. Enjoy!
Good sandwiches and personable service.
Solid. Good mango salsa.
Pretty good, but $27 tator tots is bit high. But being able to bring the food into the brewery is what makes it!
I ordered food and went into the brewery. The lady said she would bring us the food when ready. Never brought us the food. Went to talk to the lady and she said she was “too busy to bring in the food”. Food was cold and poor value -five shrimp on your po boy what a joke…
