I would highly recommend Happy Players Piano club to anyone learning the piano; from beginner to experts and everything in between. Ayumi is so kind and teaches you specifically tailored to you, which is something you don’t see done well often.
Ayumi is a talented piano teachers for adults! I came to Happy Players Piano Club without any background in music, but she explained music theory in a clear and easy way to understand. She was also extremely patient with me throughout the process. If you’ve ever been slightly curious about picking up the piano I definitely recommend seeing Ayumi, I’ve discovered a new passion through her!!
I needed a string for my guitar. The bottom e if you have to know. These people not only gave me a string they put it on and tuned it up for me and when they heard a little bit of my backstory didn’t charge me not one red cent. Love this store love this type of service hope that these people stay around for a long time and do a lot of business. Please visit them as soon as you can.
5. Monkton Guitars
Address: 1505 W 1st Ave A, Broomfield, CO 80020 , Lochbuie , Colorado , United States
Took my guitar and mandolin in for repairs. Owner Dave was super knowledgeable and helpful with all my questions! Super fast turn around and amazing price! Would come back for all my repairs!
Great experience here, I have taken several instruments in for repair and setups, they always charge a very fair price for excellent work. Most recently dropped off a fretless bass, and their tech set it up perfectly. High end service and always friendly – can’t recommend these guys enough!
These guys are the real deal. Super helpful, cool selection of gear. You’re not gonna find Nash guitars at the big box shop.
The main guy looks like a biker with a big handlebar mustache, but he’s a sweetheart. This is my new guitar shop.
Best shop around!
great place to try and buy, they know their stuff and are super nice and willing to help you find what you’re looking for. they have great recommendations and will let you play whatever for however long. very cheap for repairs and guitar work, much cheaper than other places. got my frets leveled/crowned and it sounds fantastic, however they did kind of gauge/scratch the neck on several frets. sucks, but not a huge deal as it’s not a high end guitar and the price was right ($60). again, sounds great but i would be weary of bringing a higher end model in as they weren’t very careful about taping off the neck to avoid cosmetic damage.
do not take your guitars here for repair! simple jobs will end up being 2 hours in labor charges. they will take your working guitar and send you home with a non-working guitar. they will mix up the wiring on the pots. they will give you pots too large so your knobs have a huge gap underneath. unbelievably unprofessional and incapable.
EDIT: The business response is not a fair respresentation. First guitar, volume pots wired backwards. Second guitar, repair only lasted the car ride home. Second fix only lasted the next car ride home. Third fix, incorrect tone mapping and too large of pots. Every single trip a problem. Why would I go back?

My seven year old was adamant about taking guitar, so I scheduled lessons with Bob Duncan. We will see how it goes.
Mr. Rich is so great Fantastic music teacher.
7. Flipside Music
Address: 2231 S Platte River Dr, Denver, CO 80223 , Lochbuie , Colorado , United States
Had a great time picking out a case. Staff was super helpful and quick!
Excellent place!! Highly recommend for any electric guitar needs!!!
Came in for a setup and extremely happy with the results of Sam’s magic. Great price too. Awesome team all around, with the best pedal selection in general.
Good inventory for a small place.
Best service in this category
First Visit. Nice small shop, great pedal selection and some nice guitar brands (Reverend, G&L among others). Really friendly folks.
Overly expensive and also lots of homeless people hanging outside on the street near by. It’s a dump.
8. Guitar Hut
Address: 1385 Forest Park Cir #106, Lafayette, CO 80026 , Lochbuie , Colorado , United States
There are not enough stars to rate this place. They have been more then great with my daughter, were a huge help at making Christmas special for her. They teach at a level that is understanding for all ages and expertise. The people at guitar hut are compassionate, knowledgeable and understanding. I am so glad we found this place and highly recommend for everyone!
Amazing little guitar shop!
Evan is awesome. Got my guitar fixed in less than 10 minutes
I had these guys take a look at a signature bass of mine. It had some electrical problems going on with it that were a bit out of their knowledge base but Evan is great guy. Very honest and very hard working. I will return with any other problems I have in the future and I would recommend them. Their pricing is very fair and they are willing to help out customers any way they can.
I called to sign my boys up for guitar lessons and had a few options worked out and was told I would be called back to confirm which times worked. I never heard back. Then, when I called back to confirm options, I was told they didn’t have any of my information logged and there were no longer any time slots available for lessons.
Everyone I have met there seems very nice, but very poorly organized.
9. Music Go Round
Address: 8055 W Bowles Ave #2C, Littleton, CO 80123 , Lochbuie , Colorado , United States
Music Go Round is my number one place to get music gear, the place is very nice and the employees and the boss himself are very kind, friendly and awesome people. I can highly recommend spending your money here. All the employees are competent people and clever people.
I have found some gems there over the years. I have never left with buyer’s remorse. Every time I go in there is so much new stock. Visa loves Music Go Round because I find myself dropping a lot of bank 3-5 times a year.
The guys that work there kill it. Super helpful and nice. Always answer questions and never rude. Favorite music store in Colorado for sure
Love the store !!Been going there for 15 years. New owner seems to be a straight forward Stand-up guy, they said to smash this guitar my guitar tech made it play beautifully
Staff is a great bunch of guys who have a grasp of what’s what about musical instruments. It used to be a good place to sell your used appointment. I would give you a a decent price but nowadays they won’t even give you a price better than what a pawn shop will give you. I’ve noticed in last couple of years their prices have gone up. They don’t negotiate the prices, which puts customer at a disadvantage Because condition is a huge part in what you pay. I will still stop in and check their inventory. But not as often as I used to.
UPDATE:
Store owner Jason followed up on his promise to resolve the situation. I stopped by the other day and Jason refunded the purchase in full and made this right. The receipt doesn’t mention needing to have original packaging for returns as Dan originally said, so the return should have been accepted within the 10 days we first returned but because store owner Jason did make this right in the end I am therefore changing my rating from one star to four stars.
Bought a sax mouthpiece for the saxophonist performing for an event I hosted. The mouthpiece was defective and she was unable to perform meaning the trio could not perform either. We took the mouthpiece back the next day and manager Jason would not accept return of the defective mouthpiece even with the receipt in hand claiming it there was nothing wrong even though the saxophonist is a top performer in the area. We would expect better from a nationwide chain.
for a used store the prices are outrageous
Bought a DJ mixer online and paid shipping. Called up after 3 days as I didn’t receive any update about my order. Guy told me that they sold the mixer at the store and will just issue me a refund. What a joke of a store.
Do not buy anything used. The warranty is only good for sore credit. They sell you something broken or on the edge of broken and then you can only get store credit. The staff is very friendly and helpful but the used products are poor quality and worthless. I lost $200 to this store. The USB midi port did not work at all, wouldn’t even turn on. The akai mpk-25 controller stopped working properly after one month. I took very good care of these items. I would not waste your time on this scamming “must-be struggling” establishment. Especially if you are serious about music.
10. Rockley Music Center
Address: 4880 N Robb St #1, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 , Lochbuie , Colorado , United States
Thank you Chris at Rockley for the great communication and responsiveness, and also Michael Mino for his stellar workmanship and professionalism. Michael was a pleasure to work with, and he was able to fix several spots on my piano at home. Now my secondhand grand piano looks almost new!
My experience with Rockley was absolutely fantastic. Chris was a pleasure to work with and a great guy. I would not hesitate to work with him and Rockley again and I would highly recommend them to others. Thank you Chris for all that you do!
Thanks For the Workshop
Staff were friendly courteous and knowledgeable
Appreciate the numerous ideas
Stopped in to look at pianos. The sales person made this an extremely uncomfortable experience. How do they expect to sell a piano when they don’t even like to let customers play them? It’s a big purchase, and something you have to try and compare before buying. The sales person kept hovering and telling me prices, implying I couldn’t afford them, and even started obnoxiously banging out a tune to drown me out because he didn’t like me playing a pricy model. (I’m not a pro, but I don’t suck, Hehe) It’s sad there are so few piano stores left, but unless this one treats potential customers better, it won’t be missed.
Also checked out string prices for my violin. Don’t bother. Try somewhere else or online.
Open by appointment only, hard to find, only has orchestral strings and pianos
No matter what extension you press, nobody answers the phone. Some extensions even say “Your call can not be transferred. Please try again later.”
For all I know they have great instruments at great prices. But they refuse to answer the phone so I’ll never know.
Great store, great people, excellent work…I’ll be back.
Fantastic music shop with a wide selection of guitars. Very helpful assistance in purchasing. They will take the time to put every possible guitar you would want to buy in your hands and give you the full experience of each instrument’s capabilities. Locally owned, lots of attention and care to customers. I send all my guitar students there and they come out with the right gear at the right price. Great servicing on instruments. Kind and very helpfu, absolutely love having this music store near me!
I absolutely adore this store. If it has strings they got you covered.
I’ve got a Breedlove Stage Pursuit, 7 years old, played nearly an hour every day. Prob needs some setup by July 1 for getting back on-platform at Timberline Church. Do you have a tech available (a number of guitar stores – including Guitar Center – say they don’t have one anymore) who could do the work? Would love not to have to drive up to Cheyenne or down to Denver. Thanks.
The atmosphere is friendly, and this is clearly not a corporate chain establishment. Unfortunately, they no longer carry Taylor guitars.
.
nice selection of guitars and equipment ,and associated equipment … of string’s piks & suff!
I came to Spotlight to pick out a starter violin as an adult learner. When I Arrived, the crew seemed friendly enough, but were completely unknowledgeable (about anything other than guitars) and not of much help. I probably shouldn’t have bought a violin at this point, but I needed one to begin lessons so I went for it. I was told that the store has a 7 day return policy, so I figured it was all good. I happily bought my violin and went home and had my first lesson. In the short time I began to figure out more of what I was doing, I decided I needed a larger violin to fit me. I took it back to the store before my seven days were up and was told, “This is a commissioned instrument. We can’t return or exchange it.”
NOBODY EVER TOLD ME IT WAS COMMISSIONED NOR DID IT HAVE ANY TAGS OR MARKINGS THAT WOULD SUGGEST SO.
Also, when I bought it, the fine tuning pegs were put on backwards and upside down and it was not strung my anyone who knew what they were doing. You’d think as such “professionals” they would inspect the instruments they put on the floor. After all of this, they never offered any consolation for my waste of a $250 violin plus the money I spent at a real music store to fix it. I guess I should have just known it was commissioned through magic or something. Don’t waste your time. If you want to deal with professionals, head to Boomers Music Company, Music Go Round, or hell, even Guitar Center. Literally anywhere. A pawn shop maybe?
Thanks, Spotlight, for your fantastic customer service.
It was the worst customer service. All I needed was my guitar tuned up. I was given a time quote for when the guitar would be finished. When I called to ask about the guitar after the time quoted, some one told me, it wasn’t done and it would be another 3-4 days. When I asked why I was told the original time frame, and what changed that a tune up would take 5 days instead of the 1-2 I was originally quoted, the response I got was, “Well, I don’t know what to tell you.” The customer service was deplorable. I decided to go pick it up with out the work being done. When I picked it up and made a comment about why couldn’t someone have figured out how to quote it correctly, or at least notify me when they realized it was going to be longer, the guy I spoke with at the shop was rude, and even suggested that the reason it wasn’t done was somehow my fault. So, not only did I have to go pick up a guitar after it was not worked on I was then told I was also my fault that the it never got worked on. After years of me having exclusively shopped at Spotlight. I will never ever return.- As a local business I expected that customer service mattered. The current employees don’t reflect any of those values that I assume the owner does, unless I’m wrong and the employees DO reflect the values of the owner….unfortunate.
These people are the biggest rip-off artists in the world.
Selling defective guitars and equipment. ..
These are all factory seconds, and cheap cheap cheap Chinese knock offs…
12. Boomer Music Company
Address: 3761 S Mason St, Fort Collins, CO 80525 , Lochbuie , Colorado , United States
Moved from Chicago and needed work done on my Cello. Boomer’s luther did a fantastic job with a reasonable turnaround. Great experience and plan on using Boomer as my go to instrument store for supplies and any additional work.
The gal that I asked for help was incredibly nice, knowledgeable and helped me pick the perfect gift!
Good
Very helpful, with lots of product options.
Great selection of music!
Fixed my nieces trumpet right up. Friendly staff. Wide variety of instruments.
Let me be clear, I love this place, it’s spectacular when it comes to orchestral deals, but in terms of guitar it’s god awful. I bought fresh strings and all the bass strings were coming apart and every treble strings snapped as I tuned.
I wouldn’t get a gift certificate for anyone from this place… My husband tried to use his after just a few years and they wouldn’t honor it!! It makes it hard to support locally when things like this happen.
Find an alternative place! Owner is not reasonable businessman. Zero stars if there was one.
13. Music Go Round
Address: 2925 S College Ave, Fort Collins, CO 80525 , Lochbuie , Colorado , United States
I love this place! Always fair prices and amazing customer service!
Great staff, very helpful. Great prices too
Best music store in Fort Collins. I just picked up two acoustic guitars I was getting repaired, and not only did it take about 1/8th of the time I anticipated, but it cost about half as much as well. (I should note that depending on the severity of the repair and how busy the guitar tech is, you may not always get your guitars back after one day, but that’s obvious.) What I CAN guarantee is that you’ll be treated well by the staff, pay a fair price, and want to come back in the future. Kyle (guitar tech) is super cool and knowledgeable guy and Brandon at the front is as well! I’m sure the same could be said about anybody who works there. Bottom line, shop at Music Go Round.
Pretty cool…!!!
I went in tonight around 6pm to pick up some bass strings. When I walked in, I asked for recommendations on bass strings, as I’ve only bought guitar strings before. The man working there didn’t even come fully out from behind the counter to assist me and made a rude comment when I jokingly asked “What strings does Geddy Lee use?” (The bass player from Rush.)
Honestly, it’s not about the bass strings, the inability to walk fully from behind the counter, or the rude comment and attitude. It’s the fact that I’m trying to support local businesses, and EVERY TIME I go to this store, I’m treated as if I’m an inconvenience.
At Guitar Center, I’m always treated with respect and courtesy. It’s making it really hard for me to want to keep supporting this business when I know that I’ll be treated better somewhere else. A small dose of customer service goes a long way.
If they pretended they were happy to see me just once, it would make a difference. I wear the store’s t-shirt, for crying out loud.
Nice service, but if it wasn’t clear enough yet it’s mostly just used gear and selling used gear, nothing else really.
Seeminly not kid friendly. Employee was not ok with my child holding a guitar, even with 2 adults supervising him. Told us it was ‘too nice’ and redirected us to a wall with guitars priced the same amount. Really discouraged him and we felt too uncomfortable to continue shopping and left. Post signs to not touch or ask for assistance if you have this problem. We’ll continue my son’s musical journey elsewhere.
Edit: i was only just notified of your response. My friend and I are baffled that you’re saying we would talk about smashing a guitar. Especially after stressing to my son that we have to be gentle and careful with them. That is digisting. I handed him the guitar because that was one of the ones that caught his eye because it was in his favorite color. Imagine that, someone liking the color of a guitar and choosing their first one because of that. We also did not immediately walk to the back of the store. We looked at symbols, then bass guitars. My son was in a wagon because he had a broken leg and couldn’t walk. Which meant that guitar was on his lap, in a safe position, again surrounded by adults. I didn’t want any help by your other staff because we felt uncomfortable, as I stated before. My friend was looking for the things he was looking for. They were not the same thing that my son and I were looking for. It’s ok, though, because my son and I purchased a $1200 guitar at a different location, and he’s been taking his lesson seriously as well as taking very good care of it.
I do not recommend this store. I have been a faithful customer for many years and tried to support local business, however this particular Music Go Round is by far the worst. I have brought in guitars and basses that I have played for years only to be told they have warped necks or something else is wrong with them. I have brought these same instruments to either Guitar Center (Fort Collins/Arvada)or the other two Music Go Rounds in Denver (Littleton specifically) and they had no issues and said all they needed was a little set up. While the owner is a good guy, the manager is completely un-knowledgeable and very rude. Also, their return policy is completely different from the other Music Go Rounds only allowing 7 days and in store credit only, and while they claim it’s stated everywhere it is not musician friendly as sometimes we need more time to see if equipment is going to work for us. Guitar Center is a much more musician and user friendly store, and I would highly advise taking the trip to the other locations to be treated fairly.
Had good experiences in the past here both buying and selling but chose to offer me $200 for $1500 worth of bass gear. At least guitar center offered me 50% of the total worth. Avoid if you are selling. If you are buying check EVERYTHING over as much of the wind instrument stock has issues.
EDIT: Went back last week to trade another guitar. The salesperson claimed that the neck was twisted (so they of course couldn’t buy it) which was debunked later by a good luthier. I really want to like this store but they don’t employ honest people.
14. Woods & Son Piano Company
Address: 14929 Harrison St., Brighton, CO 80602 , Lochbuie , Colorado , United States
These guys have some amazing instruments and Joe is a great guy – and extremely knowledgeable! This is the kind of company I like to do business with.
Very expensive painos but well worth the money
Great recital! Fazioli piano is beautiful!
Great!
They are advertising a 1970s Yamaha on their website as a 2011. This was pointed out to them weeks ago, and the ad remains, uncorrected. BUYER BEWARE! See attached screenshot.
15. Elevated Music Center
Address: 6955 S York St #418, Centennial, CO 80122 , Lochbuie , Colorado , United States
I am so happy we found this wonderful place! The owner, Joe, is fantastic and is passionate about all things music related. My daughters got to try out several different instruments and we ended up not only purchasing a new ukulele but bringing in some damaged vintage equipment that Joe was able to repair to sound better than they did brand new! I can’t thank him enough for all of his time and effort. Although it is a bit of a drive from where we live, we will definitely be back for any of our musical needs!
Great staff! Chris is very patient with my son. My son does not have any music background or training. He is very excited spending time with Chris.
My son has ADHD and his music teacher Steve has been wonderful with him. He has bounced around on instruments trying to find what he likes and Steve has encouraged him the each time. We are taking a break during the summer but plan on being back in the fall. Maybe it will be time to try a brass instrument instead of a string. Thank you Steve
Tommy is the man! If you want your amp properly taken care of, he’s the dude. Honest and reliable.
Tommy is by far the best tech that I’ve found. Super communicative and knowledgeable, quick turnaround, great prices. He’s a major dude, Denver is lucky to have him.
Tommy repaired two of my amps both vintage classics. They are working better than Brandon as he upgraded many of the parts. I’m so happy to find someone with his skill and expertise.
Brought a couple amps and a cab for Tommy to fix, and told I just needed them running. The first amp only required a couple tubes and a cap replaced. I pay for the parts and he hits me with a $500 labor bill (on top of $200 in parts) without even consulting me first. He did a bunch of unnecessary work, basically a refurb, without consulting me. I hooked him up with a bunch of studio time a few years ago, and he repays me with an outrageous bill that I didn’t even ask for. I wouldn’t trust him at all.
17. HB Woodsongs
Address: 3101 28th St, Boulder, CO 80301 , Lochbuie , Colorado , United States
Love Woodsongs! Helpful, knowledgeable staff, nice selection, great prices.
Awesome little music shop. Stuff was super friendly. I really enjoy the set of harmonicas I got from there 🙂 thank you guys for existing
Great selection of Ukeleles
Go to place in Boulder for all of my acoustic instrument needs. Good people, excellent service, nice atmosphere.
Great ukalele selection
Attentive staff. Good selection. Prices are average to high.
Very friendly staff, unfortunately way over-priced. You can find some of the exact same items on ebay or Amazon for less than half the price at this store.
18. Music Gear M.D., LLC
Address: 6901 W 117th Ave UNIT 12, Broomfield, CO 80020 , Lochbuie , Colorado , United States
If you have vintage gear, this is where you want to have it serviced! Mike and Craig are wizards!
I highly recommend music gear md!! Super helpful, professional, and affordable.. these guys are pros, I’ll use them forever! Thanks again for the help!
Absolutely awesome service: professional, communicative, prompt, kind, …. The best synth gear repair service ever.
Our company has recently had an absolutely terrible experience with Craig at Music Gear MD.
I would highly recommend against using their company for repairs. They ordered the wrong parts initially, delayed the repair, installed the parts so poorly our client complained, forgot to return the unit’s power supply, and had absolutely no resolve to make things right with us. When when we tried to discuss it with them, they became unprofessionally defensive, abrasive, and unreasonable.
This is all after they had promised to help and not following through—clearly deceptive and misleading business practices and not caring about their clientele or reputation.
If we weren’t burned so badly, and hadn’t been insulted by them and their unprofessionalism, I wouldn’t leave this review. We’re not beyond making amends, but they have not made any effort to do so.
19. Affordable Music
Address: 104 Village Pl, Dillon, CO 80435 , Lochbuie , Colorado , United States
Nice selection of new records. Lots of stuff that tends to sell out in Denver.
Very welcoming place
The owner is a great guy! Always gives you good deals and the selection of vinyls is awesome!!!! Love this place
Surprisingly good 45 selection.
I’ve heard good things about it but I was upstairs at pug Ryan’s bar
Great store, lots of music, plenty of stringed instruments.
Owner is a racist. He harassed my friend for shopping while black , four times AFTER he bought a CD. We went outside and had to show the police his recite.
Great place to shop if you are worried someone is impersonating you. Don’t shop there if you are black, he might call the cops.
A shambles. Nothing affordable. Maybe okay for guitars, but not music. Looks like a yard sale gone bad. Used vinyl is poor quality, C- vinyl and covers disorganized and twice the price of Denver. Boxes of unsorted records strewn about. New stuff is full list price. Not worth the effort of stopping. Waste of time
Sells broken products. Very expensive.
20. The Denver Folklore Center
Address: 1893 S Pearl St, Denver, CO 80210 , Lochbuie , Colorado , United States
Brought my old Eastman in for a set up, and they did an amazing job. Knowledgeable staff, interesting selection of instruments and sheet music. In the lively south pearl st neighborhood.
Good place for acoustic instruments
Good folks…
Exciting to have a local non chain (read “Guitar Center”) acoustic musical instrument store in the hood. Experts in not only guitars, but dulcimers and mandolins too! Experienced in their craft, and repairs.
Cool store with quality guitars and friendly employees.
Claude spent time reviewing my questions about guitars.
I miss Harry. He was polite to his customers.
An older man sat in the middle of the store and made it clear to not play any instruments unless you were basically committed to purchasing. It was a stiff and uncomfortable environment. It is easy to see from many of the reviews that the business model needs an adjustment. Highly discourage coming unless you want to grovel at the feet of the owner. Also, there were no fiddles. How can they even call themselves a folklore center?
