These guys always know exactly what I’m looking for. I’m not always sure exactly the terminology for the odds and ends my vape requires but they’re super patient and helpful. So long as I live close its my go to shop!
Best customer service in the area! If you ever have any issues they will always help you out. Not to mention the great deals they have! Definetly my favorite shop in the area!
Clean beautiful shop. Friendly, knowledgeable customer service. Prices are fair and reasonable. Every time I walk through the door they make me feel like a friend and always have the supplies I need and/or the vape flavor I want. Well stocked store, nice people, great prices…..HIGHLY recommend!
The people working in this shop are knowledgeable, pretty friendly and the prices are good.
Nice guy. Too bad not alot of business
I bought a lighter “torch” On Sunday may 2nd 2021 it was only 25 dollars I went back in on Tuesday may 4th to try and exchange the lighter cause it wasn’t working. The same guy (not devin) was the same guy who sold it to me 2 days before. He told me (it was open and used he couldn’t exchange it) . He could sell me another one for super cheap. I spent a lot of money in your store to be treated like that. Customer service is a 0
Why does a vape with 5000 puffs cost the same as a vape with 6000 puffs. You would think there would be a price difference for the 1000 puffs you’re not buying
3. Evolution Music
Address: 9024 W 159th St, Orland Park, IL 60462 , Manhattan , Illinois , United States
Come here with my dad all of the time to buy equipment for his studio. Great customer service, worth the drive all the way from Evanston. Been to other shops that just do not compare with both quality of product and customer service. Loyal customer for years to come! Thank you Evolution Music!!!!
My experience with Evolution Music is that they rock! Not only was my resonator guitar shipped quick and completely secure, they also added a gig bag and new strings. Wow! Ask for Mitch or Noah and they and their crew will take care of all your musical needs. I can’t say enough good things about my experience. 5+stars across the board! Thanks again Evolution Music i highly recommend you!
Came in to grab a cab & got great service from Mitch- I’ll happily come back to this location for future gear purchases.
Bought a nice used snare for a reasonable price. I will be shopping here for great deal on used parts
They claim to Promote your band but all they do is take your money. Only promotion is facebook and there are only bands liking there page. No local advertising in newspapers etc. that would take money from there pockets – beware of Evolution Music or at least look into them before you go.
Asked to see a guitar and the manager couldn’t be bothered. I emailed the company to ask for help and got no response.
Very shady business! Takes payment for item and does not ship it. They have a reputation of doing this to others. I had to open a dispute in order to force him to give me my money back. Would not recommend sending them any money as myself and others have been scammed by this person.
4. Midtown Bar & Grill
Address: 100 S State St, Manhattan, IL 60442 , Manhattan , Illinois , United States
Great owner, supportive and innovative. You come out here you will have an amazing time!
Great food, Music, Atmosphere and best part, fantastic staff! On a Saturday night, decently busy with a band they were on their game with table touching by multiple employees checking on us. We sat outdoors, appetizers and drinks were great and came with decent timing for the crowd. The rain even held off long enough for us to be ready to leave. Definitely will be a returning patron.
Great place to come for any occasion! Service is outstanding, drinks are incredible, they have great owners, and a wonderful staff! Highly recommend.
Drinks were good . They were a little pricey.
Great service, great drinks and a great patio! We love this place!
Bloody good Bloodys!
I’m so bummed about this experience because I have loved going to Midtown up to this point. I went last weekend with some girlfriends and the bartender with the pink/purple hair had a horrible attitude. She was nice and friendly all night until after we paid and then she started closing a couple hours early and gave us attitude when we asked her about closing early. We chalked it up to her having a bad night and left it at that, no big deal. Yesterday, at the parade my mom went in for a drink and was standing next to another women who was waiting for a drink. The same bartender ignored both of the women to take the order of a regular that was behind them. When she was done she turned to my mom and the other women asked them what they wanted. After the women order my mom ordered a Bloody Mary and the bartender told her, “we’re done making those so what do you actually want” and had a bad attitude. Later, around closing, after not knowing what happened with my mom, I went to get one last drink of the night with a girlfriend of mine and again the same bartender was talking with regulars and completely ignored us so we just left. I get everyone has bad days but this was 3 different instances where she had a horrible attitude and seemed like she didn’t want to help us.

6. Second Wind Music
Address: Kelly Ave, Crest Hill, IL 60403 , Manhattan , Illinois , United States
Second Wind Music has gone above and beyond my expectations. I had my heirloom of a wooden clarinet fully restored to it’s glory days with complete care. I appreciate his attention to detail and communication with the process. I highly recommend having any work done at Second Wind Music.
7. Tobias Music
Address: 5013 Fairview Ave, Downers Grove, IL 60515 , Manhattan , Illinois , United States
You can’t beat Tobias Music. These guys are experienced players who know their stock well and take pride in their craft. They never try to sell you, either–they’re just good, helpful, knowledgeable guys
Paul and crew were fantastic and took great care of me. My guitar arrived safely and very stoutly packaged. Please go see them, and tell Paul “Go Cardinals!”
Tobias is the perfect combination of quality, good deals, and friendly/excellent service. Buy your guitar and supplies here and bring your instruments in for servicing here. Whether you’re an acoustic guitar (uke, mando, etc.) aficionado, fledgling, or at any level in-between, you do not need another music store. Absolutely love the Stonebridge 6 string and Taylor 12 string guitars I bought from Tobias!
***EDIT***
So, I am knocking down my review from five stars to three; due to my most recent experience a couple months after the first one. So I reached backout to buy another guitar (place order) as I really wanted an AD22e or another model I can’t remember, but after confirming they could place the order I let them know that I wanted the AD22e and to provide me the full price so we could close the deal and they went silent, mind you I didn’t even get a copy of the receipt from my AD27e that never came which I had also requested from the last conversation.
I did finally get my guitar ordered but I had a national retailer place the order. I was disappointed I didn’t hear back from Tobias Music about completing the purchase and obtaining a copy of the receipt for my AD27e that never came.
** original **
Just bought an AD27e (Taylor) from them after finding it for sale online. it was a great buying experience. I’m a lefty, buying guitars online is the norm, and most of the time guitars I buy take a day or two to pack and ship. we had a few emails back and forth and they were quick to respond and very professional. These guys had it packed and shipped the same day, and I didn’t place my order until after lunch; that’s service.
They also took the time to dial the guitar in; it came with the action set and was tuned ready to play out of the box. Paul did a great job and really made this buying experience easy, and hassle free. I’ll have to check back often to see what other lefty guitar they get in. If I have the chance, I will buy from them again.
They are more of a acoustic guitar place not really a place for bass players .
8. Overture
Address: 5202 157th St, Oak Forest, IL 60452 , Manhattan , Illinois , United States
This is a great little guitar store that also sells used records and CDs. They set up one of my guitars and Dan was great–he’s very professional and he actually cares about doing a good job.
Whether you’re in the market for a guitar, want to add a couple of LPs to your collection, or you’re looking to get some some work done on your instrument, give these guys your business. You won’t regret it!
The coolest Guitar/Record shop around! I love coming in and trying out all their guitars and looking through all the records!
Great place for records. Found a few gems I’ve been looking for. Not the BEST hip hop selection, but that doesn’t seem to be their market. Still very pleased with what I found.
Wide selection of records.
11. Austin’s Violin Shop
Address: 316 Wheeler Rd, Sugar Grove, IL 60554 , Manhattan , Illinois , United States
I rarely write reviews, but wow, everything about this place is awesome. All the staff members here are so incredibly friendly, hospitable, and kind; there’s a real charm in the atmosphere here. The instruments here are high quality, and they have an incredibly wide range of instruments as well. Patricia, the store owner, is truly so kind and I mean it when I say that she makes you feel like family.
I’ve been looking to purchase a viola for the last few months now, and I’ve visited numerous stores in my area. Although this place is about a 40 minute drive from me, there’s no other place I’d rather go to after coming here. I was seriously blown away the second I came in because of how kind everyone is, and the large variety of instruments in my specific price range was a pleasant surprise. Again, the customer service here is unmatchable and they have an incredibly wide range of relatively affordable, but high quality instruments. I couldn’t recommend this business more – definitely my favorite string store around the western/northwestern suburbs.
Such great people to work with!
Best place in the area to meet your stringed instrument needs.

13. Make’n Music
Address: 780 W Frontage Rd, Northfield, IL 60093 , Manhattan , Illinois , United States
Was in town and decided to stop in and have a look around. One reviewer wrote, “Guitar Center is for kids.” Ha! Hysterical but true!
Truth is, this is THEE place to shop if you’re in the Chicagoland area. Teddy and the crew are top shelf and know how to take care of their customers. So much to choose from, eye / tone candy for days, impeccable customer service and the list goes on. I always know to check Make’n Music first.
Knowledgeable staff, friendly, lots of cool gear you won’t find at Guitar Center.
It was an email exchange from Japan by google translate, but it is a very wonderful musical instrument store because you responded politely.
I bought a guitar from Japan at this musical instrument store six years ago, and at that time, I received the same polite response as this time.
check em out
Great store. Middle of nowhere. And definitely not the shop pictured. They had Les Pauls. But would not sell them. What’s up with that.? Very small selection in unless all you want is Airline guitars. No one said much. Just some people hanging out. Not clean and shiny like pictured. I believe they must have downsized big time. Not impressed. oh well. Ive been to the place pictured years ago. Impressive. What happened?
Great service
It is always closed. Make sure you check its web site to see if it is open.
THESE GUYS THINK THEY ARE SO SMART!!!!!!!!!
I was in the market for an American made Telecaster and they had nothing to show me. I had my brother n law tell me he wanted to take up bass and they don’t carry basses. I don’t understand what their market is? Another example of how bad the Chicago area music stores are.
14. StringWorks
Address: 327 Franklin St, Geneva, IL 60134 , Manhattan , Illinois , United States
Over a year ago I called StringWorks and talked with Evan and expressed after more than 50 years and the COVID pandemic, I desired to rekindle the love of the Violin and planned to take virtual violin lessons. Evan was very encouraging, pleasant and supportive of the idea. I rented a StringWorks Violin and knew that playing the violin during the pandemic was a wonderful art to once again do.
The incentive given by StringWorks that if I later decided to purchase the instrument that I could apply a portion of the rental cost to the purchase of owning the instrument. As a gift my nephew surprised me with my personally owned StringWorks instrument which I once rented had now become my own!
I live in Michigan and I was so impressed with the telephone conversation and the transaction of renting my instrument and the incentive to become owner of the violin. Two months later, I decided to upgrade my violin playing experience.
I travelled more than four hours and would do it again in a couple of years, the experience given by Evan and his assistant was phenomenal and I was A-1 service the showcase room and the selection of instruments and bows was amazing and I was allowed to make a decision based on my hands on and quality of sound that pleased my ears.
I was able to apply my gifted violin to the purchase of an upgraded violin and bow and I feel that after more lessons I will be able to apply for the symphony. (please smile).
5 Stars to Evan and his assistant, I am truly satisfied with the experience that was afforded me and look forward to seeing you again when I upgrade to another level of beautiful music produced by way of StringWorks Musical Instrument.
The people of Stringworks know what they are doing! Every aspect of my experience there was great and they directed me to a cello that far exceeded my expectations. I had purchased my first cello there and they have a wonderful trade-in program that takes all the stress and pressure off of that first purchase. You won’t find a better place, or better people, to work with.
Evan is so nice ! I love it here .
Nope! I am going to let the pictures speak for themselves. This was supposed to have been worked on by the head luthier, took 3 weeks to arrive, AND cost $1,500! looks like a junior high project that would have gotten a poor grade. I could not ship it back to them fast enough! Utter trash.
So very disappointed. I guess they are lucky that I am not reporting them to the BBB.
15. Redbox
Address: 2050 Nelson Rd, New Lenox, IL 60451 , Manhattan , Illinois , United States
The staff and management were nice. The store is spacious, but clean and neat. No complaints!
I like the store
Busy but people are always around when you need help.
They had everything I needed which I’m finding kind of rare in these times
Good store, employees and friendly and helpful
One of the best around, never really have to wait for service here if you need something and it’s always stocked and clean.
I don’t understand why they only have one register open. LITERALLY ONE REGISTER. And they close off the self check out. The shelves are poorly stocked.
No cashiers.
As usual long lines at checkout
17. Redbox
Address: 2021 E Laraway Rd, New Lenox, IL 60451 , Manhattan , Illinois , United States
This place is great, I always get good service in a friendly atmosphere. Just wish they would be open on Sundays like I need guitar strings right now lol No biggy
20. Capital City Music
Address: 3700 Wabash Ave, Springfield, IL 62711 , Manhattan , Illinois , United States
This is a very cool place to buy an instrument. You may only see pianos in the front window but trust me. You walk past the pianos and you will see a room for acoustic guitars. There’s a feeling of natural Zen when you just sit in the ‘acoustic” room. You can buy guitars pianos drums a violin and even saxophone or trumpet. This place is worth a visit. P.S. you can actually play the instrument you want.
Overpriced, nice staff
Pretty good inventory from starter instruments to grand pianos. Laid back atmosphere.
Nice store plenty of gear in stock , staff was pleasant , prices were reasonable and they even had some used instruments for cheapskate s like me hahaa I will go back and give them some business, even though online shopping may save you a few nickel s or couple bucks shopping local and having our local business s right down the street is well worth it to me .
Slightly expensive, but very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
The guest experience was alright, but after going in, and returning my item the staff took my return and assured me it was completed, I left and enjoyed the day, more than a week later and I have discovered the staff I talked to must have processed my return improperly since I have never received my refund on my bank statement and when I tried to call in to get the situation corrected I was told they could not find my transaction. Edit… The owner has personally reached out to me and has worked to correct the situation.
went to get my guitar set up and it came back out of tune, disappointed to say the least, reading other reviews it appears the staff might need more technical experience or organization
Ignored from the time I walked into the store until I left.Walked a circle throughout looking for help only to find employees chatting it up. Both looked up at me and quickly turned away and continued talking to each other. Will never get my business.
I’ve been to a lot of music stores, and let me tell ya, avoid the this at all costs. Prices are High, equipment is below average, and the customer service is a joke. If you don’t mind paying top prices for sub standard gear and having to staff look down at you like you owe them something well this is the place for you . Two thumbs down
