They know their stuff well, and helped me understand my banjo better. A very helpful staff, and they seem like they really will go the extra mile to do what is right for you and/or your instrument, and not just try to get money out of you. If I weren’t moving shortly, these guys would be my go-to shop.
Amazing work at a great price!!
I’ve been going to Ax in hand for many years..great place for anything musical..and the do great set ups on guitars for cheap!
Nice local music store, has been around for a long time, staff could be a little friendlier but such is life.
They did a great job of fixing my guitar. My ax was really messed up and they got her back up and playable. Thanks guys.
The gentleman working there was extremely knowledgeable, and very informative and helpful. They have a vast assortment of strings and picks available, lessons and an ample variety of guitars available to purchase.

Address: 515 Dekalb Ave, Sycamore, IL 60178 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
Currently taking drum lessons here. I had no rhythm until Ben started showing me techniques. This place is great. One of sycamore’s jewels.
Ben has been wonderful to work with and makes the lessons fun. My son is very excited to continue with percussion and is looking forward to band next year and is prepared to be successful in music. Highly recommend!
Wonderful place. Decent prices for private lessons. The recitals are also great.
Music lessons great
3. Goodtime Music
Address: 3 W Streamwood Blvd, Streamwood, IL 60107 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
Just like the name says always a good time, great selection of equipment ,& great staff
wonderfully nice, conversational guys who not only do excellent work, but do it at very competitive prices – consistent with the big online music stores. nice selection of gear from good companies, but most importantly a LOCAL pro staffed with people who clearly actually care.
restored and repaired an old guitar that was in storage for 10+ years, plays and sounds great. also purchased a variety of small items. greatly appreciated, THANK YOU!
Best guitar shop in town bar none!
Two words. Good time.
This is not a music store it’s a guitar store
Great selection
good place if it opens in time. 12 pm don’t hold your breath maybe 1pm maybe 2pm
I had three guitars strung up with new strings before I moved from IL, one of them was a Yamaha classical guitar. I was having all my stuff put in a moving container right after that so I did not get a chance to tune them up for a while. Upon starting to tune up my Yamaha after I was settled I found that the high E string was not put on correctly, on the tuning peg and on the bridge on the box of the guitar. I found when applying tension on the string to tune it up, first it was slipping on the peg then it popped through the bridge hole. It turns out there was only one small knot made at the bottom of the string. For so called professionals, they don’t even know how to string up a classical guitar correctly. I should have done it myself in the first place, however I was so busy preparing to move I thought I would let them do it. Waste of money.
Not friendly. First guitar store I left from offended. Guitar Center has better prices and service.
Update:
We were asking if you a did trade in so you knew we were serious. It is not the policy it was the way were approached. He should not have put his foot on an amp but he did not see the sign. Either way it is what it is.
Thanks.
4. Modern Music
Address: 1715 Ogden Ave, Lisle, IL 60532 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
My kids have been taking lessons here for almost 2 years now. The staff is excellent and my kids have learned a lot in that time – not the least being an enjoyment of playing music, which is so wonderful to watch (and hear). We were able to buy instruments, music, and get great classes. Highly recommend.
I love Modern Music, I rent equipment from them and have never had an issue, great people who work here that know their stuff, if you have musical, equipment or looking to buy great used products this is the place to go. I would give them 6 stars if I could
found out they had a used Warwick Thumb bass I was interested in.. Stopped in on a Monday afternoon.. They handed me the bass ..and left me alone to try it out.. I loved it, but wasn’t crazy about the action . The guy behind the counter said ” our set up guy isn’t here but we can try to make it better ” . They did.. I bought the bass and love it.. ..as far as the only one star review ..Seriously , is there a heavy market demand for a used trombone ??
Awesome place to buy your guitars and music equipment staff is very friendly and knowledgeable
After politely declining their laughably low offer to buy my trombone, the sales associate became unfriendly and demanded that I give him a counter offer. The poor customer service and the dismal offer to buy my trombone were very surprising to me; I was expecting far more from a business with so many positive reviews.

Scott’s a cool cat, he works on all my gear, and he does a great job.
Give him your business.

Scott refretted my ’91 Les Paul. The work is amazing. When I dropped off my guitar, Scott patiently presented me with a myriad of fret options. After talking to Scoot, I left the shop cautiously optimistic. In less than a week I got my no. 1 guitar back better than ever. Highly recommended. Thanks!
Scott did a fantastic job on reconditioning my 1955 Strat!! Highly recommend!
6. Tobias Music
Address: 5013 Fairview Ave, Downers Grove, IL 60515 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
I recently purchased a 2018 Custom Shop Taylor, and I couldn’t be happier! Gorgeous guitar! The customer service is top-notch! Thank you Tobias family for a wonderful experience!
Excellent store. He was so nice to my daughter. Helped her a ton with her first guitar. I have bought 2 guitars from them. Super nice people and very knowlegible.
Paul gave my son a great deal on a Martin guitar for his birthday. Fantastic store. Very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
***EDIT***
So, I am knocking down my review from five stars to three; due to my most recent experience a couple months after the first one. So I reached backout to buy another guitar (place order) as I really wanted an AD22e or another model I can’t remember, but after confirming they could place the order I let them know that I wanted the AD22e and to provide me the full price so we could close the deal and they went silent, mind you I didn’t even get a copy of the receipt from my AD27e that never came which I had also requested from the last conversation.
I did finally get my guitar ordered but I had a national retailer place the order. I was disappointed I didn’t hear back from Tobias Music about completing the purchase and obtaining a copy of the receipt for my AD27e that never came.
** original **
Just bought an AD27e (Taylor) from them after finding it for sale online. it was a great buying experience. I’m a lefty, buying guitars online is the norm, and most of the time guitars I buy take a day or two to pack and ship. we had a few emails back and forth and they were quick to respond and very professional. These guys had it packed and shipped the same day, and I didn’t place my order until after lunch; that’s service.
They also took the time to dial the guitar in; it came with the action set and was tuned ready to play out of the box. Paul did a great job and really made this buying experience easy, and hassle free. I’ll have to check back often to see what other lefty guitar they get in. If I have the chance, I will buy from them again.
They are more of a acoustic guitar place not really a place for bass players .
7. Ellman’s Music Center
Address: 508 W 5th Ave, Naperville, IL 60563 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
I have been using Ellman’s for years. They have a great customer service, always extremely helpful, never had any issues with repairs, or buying instruments. Would definitely recommend!
Ellman’s is a great family owned business with TOP NOTCH customer service. We have been loyal customers for many years!
Great place! My daughter takes piano classes here and we get all our piano and music theory books here also. Highly recommended.
My daughter was in an orchestra and rented a violin from Ellman’s, at the end of the school year we decided not to continue. I asked the teacher how to cancel and she said to email them and return the instrument to her, which is what I did. Emailed them on June 4th, never got a reply, got another charge on my account in July. I called them and they said they were heading out that week to pick up instruments and once they had it they would refund my two payments. It is now August and I got a third charge. Called them again and was now told I have to fill out some form online or the rep won’t know that he has to pick up the instrument, and that they don’t have the instrument returned. So now I have paid over $52 in fees for a violin I returned, was never told to fill out the form and was promised a refund that now they do not want to honor. They told me the charges will stop once the violin is returned…..I ALREADY RETURNED IT. These people have poor customer service and obviously poor record keeping, I am irate and will tell everyone I know about how poor their service is.
This company makes robocalls to your home. i have never been this company.
There was a phenomenal rude service from the lady at the store floor and cash register. I went with my son (12 years old) to buy a guitar strings, and he showed her a picture of his guitar, and she rudely told him, “A picture doesn’t mean anything to me.” Really, he is 12 years old with six months experience in guitar. She needs more people skills.
8. PM Music Center
Address: 4411 Fox Valley Center Dr, Aurora, IL 60504 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
We were in town to look at a used french horn and not expecting to go to a music store. My daughter forgot her mouthpiece and since we’re three hours from home we needed to stop into a music store to buy one. Mike at PM music helped us out quickly and got us exactly what we needed. Thank you!
The employees are very hospitable and knowledgeable
Very friendly and welcoming place. Had an issue with a repair but they corrected the problem. Took more than stop to resolve the issue, so 4 out 5 stars. Would still recommend and will continue to shop here.
Great place with very friendly staff members. They’re always willing to help. I used them for instrument rental for a couple of my kids.
Good
9. Midlothian Music
Address: 15645 S 94th Ave, Orland Park, IL 60462 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
i highly recommend this store . have been going there since 2003 . i have bought several guitars and amps along with other accesories etc. . i do not see why anyone would go anywhere else. the prices they charge for everything are so low for everything that you get . the inventory of instruments is astonishing for a store that size. if you want to deal with an honest business for all your music needs go there.
As it is not uncommon for me to find different ways of doing something everyone else has done, I managed to break my tuner peg on my bass in a way most players have never before encountered.
While initially worried about labor costs, I took my instrument to Midlothian Music and it turned out an upgrade on all of the pegs would be in my best investment, especially in the pocket-book. Turn-around time was perfect for my needs and the cost came in less than what I had initially set aside to get 4 strings back on my bass.
This wasn’t my first time turning to Midlothian Music in the past 15+ years and love having two stores to choose from!
Another flawless purchase. The atmosphere at this shop is just amazing. Had to come in and grab one of the new esp ltd. Supporting local businesses that support law enforcement and military is amazing. This is a one stop shop for all your musical needs. Can’t wait to see what I end up buying from them next.
I love all the products but at times the service was bad, other visits there were good service. Thanks!
Stopped in to inquire about purchasing a used guitar and was treated rudely. I won’t be returning.
I wasn’t going to post these details but since they replied with incorrect information, perhaps confusing me with another customer.
When I responded that I wanted to spend $100 (not $75) the person behind the counter told me I needed to go to Toys R Us, did not offer me options or ask me any questions. THAT is why I walked out. I gave my $200 to Evolution Music. Their customer service is outstanding.
Short Version: Came in to try out guitars just like any normal, decent person would but ended up being treated like a careless kid
Every time I’ve visited Midlothian Music I’ve had wonderful experiences, but my last visit left me disappointed.
I came in to see how a few of their guitars compare to my guitar that I already own (which I brought in with me.) The associate I approached was very kind and asked a few questions to make sure he was grabbing exactly what I was looking for from the back. He brought a guitar out and tuned it for me.
I thanked him and asked him if I could have a guitar stand to place next the amp so that I could swap between my own and the one he brought me.
He told me he could just hold onto mine while I played the new one. I thought of that as being a strange solution, but I haven’t been to a lot of music shops and figured it was normal or something. I appreciated it.
I was a little bit uncomfortable with how he stood there the whole time watching me as I played (I was playing for a decent amount of time) but I just took it as him doing me a kindness, standing by in case I needed help. But then I realized he was watching me to make sure I didn’t scratch or damage the guitar.
I have a bag that I wear across my shoulder that sits at my waist, and he asked me if I could make sure that the zipper doesn’t scratch it. Which is understandable, I understand how guitar shops are about zippers. I look over at my hip and see that it’s a good distance away, nod and tell him “I gotcha.” afterwards I could still tell he was uneasy with how I was handling the guitar which I feel was very normally and with respect.
He then asks me “oh, could you make sure you don’t pick too hard?” which is a question I’ve never been asked in any guitar store I’ve visited. I didn’t really know what to say so I just looked at him and then he asked me to watch out for my zipper again. At this point my thoughts of “Oh, he’s standing by to help me” turned to thoughts of “Oh, he was watching me this whole time to make sure I don’t tear anything up”
At that point I (regretfully) respond sarcastically and ask “Would you like to just move my bag for me? Would you also like to pick the guitar for me as well?”
We begin to explain to each other where we were both coming from with our statements. In trying to get my point across that I’ve never been watched so closely or felt like I was made out to be such an untrustworthy individual nor watched the whole time in any other music shop I’ve visited, I became very frustrated and the tone of my voice took a similar turn.
A manager comes over and asks what’s going on. I apologize for my tone and as I attempt to explain what happened and how I felt I was treated, he interrupts me and explains to me the reason behind the employee’s actions. He then asks what he can do for me and how the guitar played.
As I tried to continue my explanation two more times, I was interrupted two more times and was told by the manager that the employee was just trying to stand by and give me good business which is rare these days and that he didn’t mean it that way.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe the employee had any malicious intent directed towards me at all, he apologized to me multiple times. It’s just that the following things left a bad taste in my mouth:
– He apologized to me which I really appreciate, but immediately afterwards he would go on to tell me why he treated me the way that he did, which was to ensure the guitar stays in good condition
– I understood that aspect of what he was saying, keeping the merchandise in perfect condition. I was just unhappy with the way he went about it
– When I tried to explain this to the manager, I felt like he wasn’t willing to see my side, especially with how I was interrupted midway twice while trying to explain my issue to both of them.
I have been doing business with Mithalodian music for years. I have purchased instruments from them in the past with success and maintenance support. UNFORTUNATELY, my last purchase of an acoustic guitar was extremely disappointing. The guitar after only being played a few times and stored in my daughters bedroom became miss-shaped and needed repair. I took it back to Mithalodian we’re their manager accepted the guitar for rehydration after he Insinuated that I did not buy the GUI from them. After three weeks of rehydration I was informed that the brand new guitar’s strings were rusted (after the rehydration process) so now in order to play the NEW guitar I must replace the strings that were rusted by their repair shop. Service and customer service is extremely poor and they no longer sell quality instruments that they stand behind.

Fantastic service! Nate is a great guy, makes you feel at home and does not rush you at all. Would recommend to everyone.
Great place friendly people definitely worth checking out.
Exceptional staff, great prices
I was there the morning right after it caught on fire, hard to review this place since it was being cleaned up. Just to be fair i gave it 4 stars
Only gave a star review because I was busy at the time. Now that I have time, *clears throat*…
Nice little store tucked away in a place nobody would ever think a guitar shop would be. It is full of vintage and newly made (Guyatone) guitars, basses and amps. They have so many guitars for sale! If you can afford vintage prices, do shop here! (They also have a Reverb page, iirc)
Made my first purchase, but unfortunately it turned out the item had been listed with an incorrect price. Was disappointed, but I was notified and the refund was issued quickly at least.
Update: Had a representative reach out a week later attempting to buy off my review with an undisclosed discount. When I explained that I could not in good morals accept that as the review was fair and the time to do the right thing had come and pass they explained that they could not afford to honor the mistake ($50 difference), all the while offering a discount which could well add up to the same amount, or more at the end of the day making the explanation somewhat nonsensical in that case. It’s an unfortunate circumstance to be sure as the mistakes keep snowballing and I very much enjoyed everything I had read and seen from them prior to this.
Very unprofessional. Nate seems to act like a know it all, but could use a few lessons.
11. Drugan’s Drums and Guitars
Address: 1577 S Cora St, Des Plaines, IL 60018 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
Very knowledgeable great service! The coolest instruments around including vintage and boutique! Lessons too!!
I bought a pair of A Zildian & CIE vintage hi hats off of Reverb from Drugans, came lightning quick and was packed excellent so they are arrived in the shape that they described. EXCELLENT!! Great service and HONEST! Thank you!!!!
The service was very good.
12. Kuipers Family Farm
Address: 1N318 Watson Rd, Maple Park, IL 60151 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
This is the best family pumpkin patch and apple orchard around. They have a lot of attractions for kids and a bar for the adults.
Back for a second year and did not disappoint. 5 star remains….oh and the bars still open. This year I got the Kuipers Pumpkin Ale and their shandy. Haven’t had yet but very optimistic
Visited weekend before the great pumpkin fest so the crowd level was low. Great sunflower field to pick one blossom. Just walk through it like you would a corn maze and take in nature! Just an overall great family friendly place. Trains, apples, donuts and spiked apple cider, oh my! Spent $40 for 2 for the apple picking, train and sunflower. Additional for food and other treats to go home.
Great Apple picking experience! Kind of a bummer that the pumpkin side is $25 just to enter. It used to be per ride or open at least part of it to the public. Makes it difficult when coming with a big group/family. We wanted to do both but could not justify paying that much.
It’s like a country style Disney Land; very polished and prestine. Everything is done very well and you pay a premium for it. A dozen apple cider donuts is $12 and a gallon of apple cider is almost $10. We had a great time. It was quite the experience
A lot of items to browse through on your way to buy apples.
I live just east of the apple farm and the last two days they are playing music excessively loud. This is the country, not a venue for concerts. Not sure what they are thinking and hope this is not a recurring thing.
Thanks for the response. I appreciate you want to be a good neighbor but I’ll contact the county because the music was excessively loud and I’m curious to see how the county monitored the sound levels. You have a nice property/business and I’m sure if you want to continue to book these kinds of events and the county thinks the noise (music) is at appropriate/approved levels, maybe the speaker orientations could be changed to not broadcast this direction and towards vacant properties. Thanks
Everything is WAY overpriced, but it’s a family owned farm and I was already there, so I decided to get some fresh donuts and caramel apples. However, absolutely NO donuts were made (an hour after opening) and NO ONE helped me at the donut counter even though some employees were in the back trying to look busy. So I walk into the room to check out my apples, but no employees appear to be at any of the registers. Finally after the cashier scans our items and swipes our card, she informs us that our card was declined. We knew we were close to the spending limit, so we took some items off our order (so the trip here wasn’t completely worthless) and our card was declined again. Clearly, this must be a sign to just cut my loses and go home, right? But the nice cashier said the system was new and she needed to call for help. The second employee explained that charging the account too many times can put your card on hold, but was awfully rude about it. On top of her overall rudeness, she treated me as if I were attempting to con her of these apples. We ended up having to call the bank to make sure they didn’t charge us 3 times; but had they only ran the card through once, we could have walked away knowing our card was safe without the hassle and frustration. However, we left with nothing and were treated like criminals. Moral of my experience: DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE! (unless you want rude service and a hole in your wallet.) Gobberts pumpkin farm is a little ways down the road and will DEFINITELY be worth the visit; plus, their attractions far exceed Kuipers.
My son came home from working at Kuipers and had a severe allergic reaction to bailing hay… He couldn’t breathe and was hyperventilating… The membrane of his eye is severely inflamed and pushing his eyeball out… And then when Wade was informed of these problems my son was berated and called a lazy ass…. My son is also covered in hives…. So you have fun spending money at a place of business that treats their employees like garbage and belittes them….
From a majorly pissed off mom
13. Dr Woods Guitar Emporium
Address: 304 Lincoln Ave, Fox River Grove, IL 60021 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
Great customer experience at Dr Woods! Buddy and team were super friendly and helpful.
Large selection of guitars and great atmosphere. Highly recommend.
This little place is a gem to any serious musician. Top of the line gear in stock, and inventory and prices you would never find at a large retail chain.
Have had an awesome experience for gutair lessons in Mchenry County. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The pricing is very reasonable. 5 stars!
A very helpful and knowledgeable staff. A relaxed atmosphere with some really great looking guitars.
Very friendly, asked for advice on a project gave great direction. I will definitly come back to give them my business.
Buddy is an expert musician. His advice, insights, and customer service are worth the visit. I support this local shop because they offer value that I can’t get from the web or a large chain.
Its a long story. In the end it was a bad experience.
I think if I didn’t check up with them things could have been much worst.
I’m not doing any business with them and advise the same.
I called 45 minutes before they closed and was there about 25 to 30 minutes before they closed to get a guitar pick the lady with a dog looked at me walking out locked the door and got into her car and left mind you there was still about like I said 25 to 30 minutes left so if you’re gonna close at 8:30 put it on your page on Google that closing is at 8:30 and I’m still gonna buy a pick tomorrow because you’re the closest but that will probably be the last time I’m there and I will be returning the saxophone either Friday or the third
I debated posting a review or not, but I think I should if it’ll keep someone from having a bad experience. First off, the employees are super kind people. Couldn’t be happier with the staff. But unfortunately the work I received on my guitar was really poor. Took a guitar there, first time bringing them one of my instruments. Was told I could expect a turnaround in under a week. Ended up waiting almost 2 months. Honestly not a big deal, happens a lot with instrument repair. Got the guitar back. Took it out to play it and the truss rod cover is missing. Find it in the case and put it on. Turn the volume knob, it falls off. Have to spread the top of the pot and reinstall it. Start playing and there’s a weird oscillating noise from the amp. Find the output jack totally loose, have to take off the cover and tighten it. Screws for the cover are stripped in the body. This is a new guitar by the way. Notice the G string sits higher off the neck than all the others, very noticeably. Figured they would fix this when doing a setup but I guess not. Had to file the saddles out myself. Should have just done the job myself at this point. Ended up taking the guitar apart to make sure the wiring wasn’t as bad as the assembly and setup. Got it playing good now, but after paying for someone else to do it and then having to do it myself, it wasn’t worth it. I figured the extra time taken would have meant it was 100% ready to go when they called but apparently not. This was a mid range guitar so I’m not terribly upset about it, but if it was something really nice I would have definitely been upset. Take this into consideration before dropping off your favorite axe. Hope they learn to slow down and do quality work.
14. Austin’s Violin Shop
Address: 316 Wheeler Rd, Sugar Grove, IL 60554 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
Mark at the Buffalo Grove store was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful! I was considering a new Taylor guitar, and unlike a competing store Sam Ash had a wide selection to choose from. Mark pulled guitar after guitar from the wall allowing me to play each of them to help in my decision. I had only planned on looking that day, but they had one (814ce) that I could not leave without. Mark even threw in an extra pair of strings, which though unnecessary was a nice gesture! This is the second Taylor I have purchased from this store and would definitely recommend going there for your first or next instrument.
Sam Ash is unique in that the employees aren’t just people they hired to work the cash register. They are extremely knowledgeable in the departments they work in and are always willing to spend time with you to help you find exactly what you need.
Great store great managers and employees .
has all the cables you could need at good prices but has a huge lack of synthesizers at the moment, because it looks like everyone bought all the shelf displays and they haven’t had any new synths in months, nonetheless, I bet by christmas they’ll have a nice array.
Kind when helping me find a item and helpful with the questions I had.
Great selection, helpful staff, kinda expensive
Crazy high prices on accessories. They don’t put price tags on anything except guitars. That’s because no one would even pick it off the shelf if they knew how much they charge. Way to gouge your local musicians!
I’ve always had a super good experience with Sam Ash specifically this one at Buffalo Grove. I’ve taken/ sold multiple instruments here throughout the years after upgrading and wanting to get rid of my used equipment. I’ve never had any problems (until now) and the staff had always been kind and had always taken care of me. Today I came in to potentially sell one of those said instruments, when I was immediately degraded by management. Not only was I told that the make and model of my bass was not correct information, I was also told that my price range was off and that I needed to do research before trying to sell my instrument…….
I have been playing bass for 18 years now, so to have someone who doesn’t even play, or know anything about basses (he straight up told me he was a drummer and didn’t know a lot about bass) tell me that I am wrong about my own instrument was completely degrading and frankly insulting. He even made a point to tell me that he’s been working in the instrument retail industry for years now, and would know if my bass should be priced higher. I made several attempts to correct him about my instrument, all of which he did not listen too and didn’t even make the attempt to validate. It’s really hard as it is to be a woman in music, so to come here today and be completely degraded and treated as if I had no idea what I was talking about by the staff, was just so beyond insulting and aggravating.
I called ahead of time for a product. The associate assured me they had it and reserved one. When I got there, they apparently “sold the kit reserved for me” and I had to spend more money than I had budgeted. there was no discount offered or anything. I am thinking they said that just so they could get me to spend more money.
16. Naperville Music
Address: 636 E Ogden Ave, Naperville, IL 60563 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
Great store. Johnny was a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge help in picking out a guitar!
Great people and very helpful always polite love this place
My wife and I had planned a weekend getaway to Chicago. On a whim Saturday morning, she looked to see if there were any music stores close to the area we were staying and came across Naperville Music. She was interested in a Yamaha digital piano and I went along for the ride. We were immediately impressed with the store. The sales people were friendly and knowledgeable. While she was checking out the digital pianos, I wandered into the acoustic guitar room. I have always had a desire to own a nylon string guitar and with zero pressure from the sales person I was left alone to play. I was drawn to the Taylor Academy nylon string guitar. Something about the sound quality, ease of playing, and simplicity of the guitar enticed me. The following week, after learning more about this guitar, I decided this was the next guitar I wanted to own. I may have been able to locate this guitar closer to home, but I so enjoyed the experience of Naperville Music that I decided to buy from them. I talked to Rich on the phone and he said he could ship it to me, but we were so drawn to Naperville Music, that the following Saturday my wife and I made the 4 hour trip from Iowa to buy “my” guitar. As former business owners we can appreciate a first class operation with great customer service and that is what we found with Rich and his staff at Naperville Music. It is a magical music store and well worth the drive.
In these unprecedented times I recommend Sweetwater for all your musical needs. Impeccable customer service! Online service at your fingertips
Very knowledgeable staff
I have no regrets buying my guitar with you considering that Guitar center is closer to my place. I’m not after convenience but GREAT SERVICE which i have receive and Good Deal. I’m satisfied with my purchase and will come back again.
Terrible service, they purchased an old guitar from me, and refused to let me take the case, we never arranged them getting the case, also the staff is not very enthusiastic. No one seemed like they wanted to be there including me.
I had a very negative experience with this company. This involved serious product misrepresentation in an online transaction (eBay) and major problems trying to resolve the issue. I do not recommend doing business with these people. A little internet research indicated that I am not the only one that has had trouble with Naperville Music.
As soon as the piano teacher looked at me and my daughter the energy was wrong. I maintained a positive attitude…she swung the room door open 5 mins before my daughter’s lesson ended and started talking to me LOUD saying “your daughter is not supposed to be using THIS BOOK”. I kept trying to explain (again) how my daughter had taken a break in her lessons. Ms Allison KEPT cutting me off everytime I tried to speak. She did this after the lesson was over as well. Then, she kept hammering at my daughter telling her how impossible close to difficult it would be to re learn the notes. This lady took 1 look at us and assumed we were ignorant. She chose to be antagonizing instead of being a teacher. I don’t think she’s like this with everyone, picks n chooses. The energy of this place was nothing like this when Tracy works.

Pretty good selection and nice employees wish I could work their but they don’t hire highschoolers
Favorite Store.
DW drums from GC .
People here know a lot about guitars and are always nice while you play with their instruments.

place has a variety of items, staff is efficient
If you’re going into this GC make sure to clear your entire day, it’s going to take a while. Sales reps have no regard for your time and move at a leisurely pace in everything they do. What should take 10 minutes often takes an hour – hour and a half. If I was referencing a busy time in the store I would understand it, but when you’re the only customer they have, I can’t wrap my head around it. People working here could not care any less about their jobs or customer care no matter how much you spend in store.
Zero stars. The worst service i have ever experienced. I will never go into that store again.
I don’t like places where someone with a mask not covering nose doesn’t allow you to enter without mask to empty store….
18. North Shore Music
Address: 405 1/2 Linden Ave, Wilmette, IL 60091 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
This is an awesome place to improve your skills in music. The owner really knows his stuff and the staff is always helpful when it comes to rescheduling lessons. Can’t recommend enough.
My 13 year-old son has been taking drum lessons at North Shore Music for 2 years. He’s also in the studio’s band camp which places him with other students to form a rock band. They perform in public around Wilmette. He absolutely loves it and so do we parents. Alejandro and his staff are terrific!
Highly recommend! Alejandro went out of his way to accommodate us and it is much appreciated. So nice to deal with a music shop that is not corporate, wonderful to have someone who is proud of his craft and supportive of the community as well as their love of music!!!
19. Guitar Works, Ltd.
Address: 709 Main St, Evanston, IL 60202 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
Have known owner Terry ’bout 27 years now, my late father in law (60 years jazzman in Evanston) trusted Guitar Works LTD since Terry opened in 1979. He has sold to longtime associate but is staying on part time, limited hours a few days a week. Steve, Larry, and support staff are all on board, trying on “old man ownership shoes which are probably a bit too tight and have holy soles, but will soon stretch out”. I have looked to Terry thes past 17 years to maintain my father in law’s hollow body Gibson L4 & L5, 2 mandolin’s, my 60 year old Gibson 4 string tenor, 1976 Yamaha FG-170 6- String FG-312 and purchased my son’s Taylor Guitar. No value in my Yamahas but the 12 string always had beautiful tonal quality to my ear and the neck separated from body. Summer 2019 Terry agreed to repair it. Came out great, needs minor bridge adjust, but I have an old friend back. Some folks have had different experience, and I won’t try and make excuses. I have played folk, jazz, R&B and R&R. Am a musician: drummer, acoustic guitar, flute, harmonica.
And 50 years a computer systems engineer and airborne radio/navigation technician. Responsibility to see that aircrews could communicate, and get back frrom missions. This is where I learned, there is no room to fail, no re-tries, fix it right the first time, or find a different field of work. I also ran my own consulting business, so I understand that there may challenges the new owners must address to find their own NEW Stride in old man’s Shoes, and figure out how to uphold a reputation that Terry established. Everyone communicate with courtesy and clarity and make this work. Thanks for all your service to our musical family.

Great shop! Had my acoustic guitar setup here recently. They said it would take a week to a week-and-a-half and it was done early. Action lowered, nut filed down, new strings, and it plays great. Thx!!
Friendly people, very knowledgeable and helpful. They do fantastic repair work. If you’re looking for a new or used guitar or instrument for aunt then I highly recommend them.
Great local place with friendly staff!
Curbside service order ahead or at the door
They do not always have the instruments they say they do!
Two stars because of the employees that just give you a glazed over zombie look, no greeting, when you walk into the store. Not cool. A simple “hey, how ya doing?” is always nice to acknowledge ones existence. It’s a small shop otherwise with vintage stuff mixed in with new reissue stuff, so it can probably be a little confusing to the average guitar buyer. However, I’d still rather come to this place than to Sam Ash. The staff, including the owner, just needs to work on some basic customer service skills.
Brought my five string J Bass in for repair. They were not able to fix the problem, and even worse they forgot to put the battery cover back on the bass, lost the screws, and didn’t even offer to replace them!
Brought in two guitars over the summer. An old Ibanez musician and a newer Eastman semi-hollow body. They thought it would be done in about a week and turns out they were busy and that is fine. Several weeks later i was contacted about the Ibanez and I appreciated the recommendations and ultimately did not have any work done on it. The other guitar was supposed to get a new pick-up selector switch, re-strung and set-up (I had already taken the strings off). I picked the guitars up (paid) and did not think to open the cases to look at them. I got home and they had literally not touched the Eastman. No strings, no new selector switch , nothing. I couldn’t believe it. Still can’t…
20. Cremer Guitarworks
Address: 153 S Lincolnway, North Aurora, IL 60542 , Maple Park , Illinois , United States
Been waiting at least 5 months maybe 6 months to have 3 guitars worked on. Now all that waiting was for nothing according to a message on their machine. So they are not working on instruments but they still didnt even bother to call people that have appointments that were set up. I have been waiting since last year to have instruments worked on.
