I love the prices, all the different type of things they have cause it’s two stores in one I will spend a lot of money in there if I was closer to the store.
Love the team
They do a good job for the workload they are under, not to mention being one of the stores that had to throw a lot of stuff out
Excellent Service
the store is to small. very tight with boxes in the aisles
It smells
I walk to the door. I hear a lock on door. Staff locking door at 2pm. Other customers drive up. She hangs a unprofessional sign that states: Bank Run! Where is management?
Too much clutter
5. Homewood Musical Instrument Co
Address: 1712 28th Ave S, Homewood, AL 35209 , Marengo County , Alabama , United States
I took a 2008 Gibson LP in for a level and re-crown, they did a great job like brand new plays like butter. Will definitely be using them again. It is great to know we have a great instrument repair in Birmingham, no need to go to Atlanta or Nashville. Thanks!
I could talk to Bob Tedrow all day. And he would listen! Better yet, I get even more enjoyment listening to him. Jason Burns is a master crasftman, and treats every customer and every guitar with individual attention.
It is not often that I walk in a music and have have the owner show so much kindness to me. I want to encourage anyone looking for a musical instrument to make sure you go to Homewood Music. They are great folks and will treat you right.. Mr. Tedrow was wonderful. Thanks
Friendly atmosphere and lots of instruments.
Good product, Good service.
I’ve never dealt with someone so rude over the phone. The owner tried to guilt me with sarcasm and acted like victim when I questioned a price. Full story: I asked to order a cello string. All was going well (owner answered questions about speed of shipping and availability of the string), but then he quoted a price ($81) that was far above what other shops charge. I said respectfully that “I’ve purchased the string for $45 at other walk-in shops” and he became sarcastic and argumentative with me, claiming he was “holding my hand” through the process, and said “Well, I have to pay $35 for this string so what do YOU think is fair for ME to make? $15? What is 35 + 15, huh? Ohhh, maybe $50 is more than you can afford?” A simple, “well this is my price” would have been fine as a response from him, but I felt disrespected so I hung up and decided I’m never going to spend a dime Homewood Musical Instrument Co. I advise everyone else to steer clear of this shop and the guy who owns it.
6. Jerry’s Music
Address: 1003 US-43, Winfield, AL 35594 , Marengo County , Alabama , United States
I haven’t bought a guitar here yet, but the staff has been very courteous and knowledgeable. I have visited several times and the most I’ve spent is $60. Even though I haven’t laid down a lot of cash, the salesman recognizes me and greets me with a smile when I walk in.
this place is awesome. Super friendly staff. If you need a guitar set up or repaired they also do that for super cheap and great work.
This place is great for all your musical needs! Highly suggest them!
Friendly staff and good service for a small buisness . your go to place if you dont want to drive a 100 miles to Guitar Center store .
Great sales,super repair work!
Nice small business. Very helpful.
The people are nice but the stuff you buy here is garbage.
I went in yesterday and asked about a Gretch open back banjo on the back wall that didn’t have a price tag. The reply I got from the bearded gent behind the counter was ” I don’t know, probably $300 or something”, and then he walked away like I didn’t exist. The vibe I got from him was “I dont want to help you. I won’t help you”. I buy a LOT of instruments and spend thousands of dollars per year on all sorts of music equipment, but this store has shown me that they don’t want my business and they aren’t interested in having any sort of customer care. I didn’t want to go to Guitar Center anymore, I would like to buy from a local store, but Guitars and More has discouraged me from doing any business with them. My advice to other customers is to go elsewhere. They don’t want your business and they don’t deserve your business.
8. Bailey Brothers Music Company
Address: 4673 US-280 Suite # 7, Birmingham, AL 35242 , Marengo County , Alabama , United States
Waylon was a really big help today on helping my son pick the best guitar in my son’s budget. Very nice !
A very pleasant experience !
Great selection of quality guitars and a staff that is knowledgeable about what they sell.
Easily the best music store in Bham. Great selection, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Always have what I need!
Helpful and kind! Will be back to see them soon.
I needed to buy instruments for my Middle School kids. They were very upfront with their prices and seemed to have the best deals.
Good selection of musical equipment. Be prepared because they strictly enforce the muzzle mandate inside. They make you wear masks.
I explained to them thoroughly what I needed and they sold me the opposite! It all about sells and f**k the customers needs! Stay away from the southside location!
I left my guitar with this store in February 2012 for a simple repair. In June it was still hanging waiting for them to repair. I had been told on multiple occasions that it would be ready in just a few days. I picked it up today June 24, 2012 and no repair has been done and I was still charged a bench fee. This place sucks. I will never go in there again. Good luck if you do.
I came in here the other day and they were incredibly overbearing and checked in on me every 30 seconds. From the second I walked in they were all up in my face and insisted on providing an address and phone number whenever I paid which I fully expect to be sold somewhere. I don’t know if they’re struggling to keep the lights on or something but the amount of customer service was way too much and came across as pushy and rude. Literally just let me shop.
9. Gadsden Music Company
Address: 607 Broad St, Gadsden, AL 35901 , Marengo County , Alabama , United States
Skip to the bottom if you just want the review. I was apprehensive going to a Music Store with my Dad’ guitar. He had given it to me a few years back, and I had done nothing with it. I didn’t even look up the maker. The day I visited Gadsden Music, was the day before the 2-year anniversary of my Dad’s death. I was feeling guilty, ashamed, and that my neglect had ruined his guitar. BUT, I was welcomed by Amanda who looked at the guitar and exclaimed “Wow, what a interesting guitar!” She identified the brand and size, and to my relief, she said it could be cleaned and brought back to life.
Review: Gadsden Music Company should be the first place you visit for all things Music. They are Musicians and therefore extremely knowledgeable. All the staff, Amanda, Tyler, Brian… are customer interactive, whether you have no knowledge, like me, or a Proffesional, I saw several being helped, they love Music and love their work!
Awesome service AWESOME PEOPLE
Excellent experience.
Really nice guy working there not to pushy but let us nknow he was there if we needed him. Oh and the selection was huge and reasonably priced
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Did offer alternatives to what I needed.
Good selection and knowledge staff
Muy bueno
They have charged me 3500 dollars for a clairnet. My neighbors grandson plays clairnet at the University of Alabama his last year. When he seen how much I paid for this clairnet. He show me, where it only cost 1200 dollar every where else. They are clearly taking advantage of parents that know nothing about instruments.
Rediculously expensive

Address: 522 Co Rd 550, Fackler, AL 35746 , Marengo County , Alabama , United States
We always have a pleasant experience at Andy’s. The staff is knowledgeable and always kind and happy to help.
We love Andy’s! We purchased both of our children’s band instruments at Andy’s, and it was the best decision we could have made. Both were far cheaper than using the store our elementary school uses for rentals, and we have the benefit of having someone local for service. We have had service emergencies, and instead of being without an instrument for a week, I’ve been able to run across the bay, and Andy’s has taken care of us on the spot. They could have easily told us that it had to be left, but they have saved the day every time! (And never charged me!). They have a great inventory of instruments, accessories, and parts, and they have always done our routine maintenance quickly. They are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and we are so happy to have them in the area!
Bought several musical instruments from Andy’s, and got great service and great price. Recommend them highly!
Good product…shipping packaging sucks USPS destroyed the packaging and this is the third baton I ordered. Somehow they keep survive the beating…
They have great merchandise
My experience at Andy’s was horrible. I called and ask do they have any piano music for beginners and was told yes. The sales person was friendly over the phone but the minute I arrived her whole attitude changed. She didn’t want to help me. I walked around for about 15 minutes waiting to ask for help but the staff pretended to be busy even when no one was in the store. The minute a Caucasian person walked in, they were at their beck and call ready to help. I was so excited about buying music so I can practice my piano, but after being treated like dirt my attitude changed. I wish people would learn that know matter what color you are, one is know better than the other. Please stop believing that lie!
Once we walked threw the door, i explained what i was in the store for. However the lady act as if she did not want my kids to try out an instrument and went back and forth with reasons on why they shouldnt try an instrument. I politely left the store and will never be back. I went because i wanted my kids to have an instrument of their choice for christmas, And my kids still will, just not purchased from this store.
Good for guitar strings that’s about it
13. Highland Music
Address: 3000 Clairmont Ave, Birmingham, AL 35205 , Marengo County , Alabama , United States
Harold is a master at wiring guitars up. He tops my knowledge in that area, therefore, for the harder jobs, I send my brother there. 🙂
You can’t trust Bailey Bros and Guitar Center in this town. You can trust Highland.
Highland is a great shop for both vintage and new gear! Highly recommended.
Got a good deal on a used Vox guitar amp. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. I fully intend to return.
Really cool spot, found some really cool old gear…… owner doesn’t seem to want to part with any of it though.
Owner was very helpful. I was looking for a pair of drum sticks. He was kind and explained that this was a shop. Occasionally may acquire drumming items. I appreciated his honesty and kindness. Purchased 2 pairs.
Let’s just say that my kind ain’t welcome
Won’t ever visit again! No greetings, no nothing. I was in the store about ten minutes and no one ever acknowledge it. I was referred to this place by the guy in Homewood music shop but he could’ve saved the breath he use cause nothing was worth driving to this store for!!
Pretentious and overpriced….typical music store snobbery
14. B&C Music
Address: 314C Billy B Dyar Blvd, Boaz, AL 35957 , Marengo County , Alabama , United States
David was very kind and extremely informative. He made my guitar shiny and hydrated and made her sound like a happy gal.
Nice folks
Over priced. Only good if you need to grab a pack of strings or something small last minute.
Has variety of instruments and types of music. Carrie is a bubbly personality there
I felt watched and rushed. Two women were working there that day, one was very friendly. I did not feel comfortable asking questions and also it was so hot in there.
this place is burnt!
Awful place with cheap brands and overpriced / broken used instruments.
15. Walmart Supercenter
Address: 969 US-80, Demopolis, AL 36732 , Marengo County , Alabama , United States
Not the best Walmart… prices in wrong places… Poor stock… There’s better service than this.
The ppl here r rude. I said “ma’am’ several times and tye cashier ignored me. The self checkout was not goin through when we tried 2 pay.
The store is poorly stocked but it is not short on rude associates. I worked for a walmart much larger than this one and we were trained to make eye contact and speak to the customers. When shopping at Walmart in Demopolis Very few employees speak and when we have had to seek an associate for help we get treated as if we are bothering them and they clearly do not want to help. This is the only walmart in the area and I have complained but there appears to be little change made. One associate treated my daughter and I so rudely when I asked for a price check while in the clearance aisle, she snatched the item I was holding out of my hand and proceeded to say it’s not on sale. I pointed to the peg that had a whole row of them and she snatched the peg off the wall and after walking to the other end of the aisle she came down and proceeded to grab another item my daughter was looking at. I went to the manager that day because I do not even know this woman yet she treated us so poorly. I encouraged the manager to look at the camera as proof what this associate did. I have heard others complain as well. It is time corporate steps in and makes the necessary changes to make this Walmart a better place to shop at. We shop there when we have to but we prefer to drive to Meridian Walmart where the associates are much more professional yet kind.
Poor service mean employee
16. Redbox
Address: 25734 AL-10, Dixons Mills, AL 36736 , Marengo County , Alabama , United States
Very thankful to have a local music store that has great customer service with their attention to detail for each person. They always go above and beyond.
Great place for instruments, and they offer private lessons. Great place.
Great place to stop in for guitar supplies.
They do not like you to play the guitars unless inquiring about purchase, but nice people nonetheless and you should always support local businesses.
Liked to look around the store seeing a lot of instruments & songbooks plus more.
I went in with my boyfriend to get some guitar strings etc. The lady who helped us was polite but wanted us to hurry up and leave. We’ll probably be making a trip to AB Stephens next time
Closed on a Saturday at 3oclock….
Ladies, you need to get into this decade and get products available. And seriously, your prices are insane. You obviously own and don’t rent the building.
The hours listed are not accurate. I hardly ever see this place open.
18. Emiron Music Inc. dba The Yellow Guitar
Address: 806 Bank St NE, Decatur, AL 35601 , Marengo County , Alabama , United States
Great place! It has a wonderful, old-school music feel to it yet they had all the new stuff too, along with well kept used instruments and they were quick to get anything they didn’t carry. Fantastic atmosphere and awesome owner/employees
Nice, fair and friendly
I just went in here for the first time today to get a guitar repair done. They originally said it would be done by tuesday but then they just did it today instead. Very nice people and very quick to help you with what you need. I will definitely be coming back here in the future.
My brother came down from Tennessee to visit and took me in here and suprised me by purchasing me an electric guitar, amplifier, and everything I needed to get started learning how to play guitar. The store has just about everything you need and the staff are very friendly and seem to know a lot about music supplies and accessories. Overall, was a great experience for the first time being in there and we came in close to their closing time but they weren’t trying to rush customers out of their store. Would recommend and come back again for anything else I need.
Owner was very helpful and I am waiting to see if he can get a used instrument in for me but if not he offers a heavy discount for school band purchases that make the price very reasonable for brand new
Nice staff clean store and can stock items for regulars. Mostly past era guitars though. Otherwise it’d be 5 stars
There’s one guy there (Chet ? Chester?) who is really nice. The older gentleman comes across like he’d rather be in his office or something rather than dealing with the public. Seems he can’t keep young and talented help either, which may also be a result of his extremely unapproachable personality. I agree with the other reviewer … Decatur needs another music store.
It’s music for crying out loud … the atmosphere does not lend itself to the encouragement of instrument try out. It always seems so cold and uninviting. Not to mention that the selection is poor. No used instruments either.
Rude did not want to wait on customer like it was bothering them
Exelente

20. Fretted Instruments
Address: 2906 Linden Ave, Birmingham, AL 35209 , Marengo County , Alabama , United States
Best acoustic instrument dealer in town, and the nicest owner/banjo teacher on the planet.
I have done business with Herb Trotman at Fretted Instruments. Herb is an honest man and is straight up like 6:00 o’clock. If he tells you it’s raining, grab your umbrella.
I had my most valued guitar in his hands. I have no regrets. Good service, fair deals… That’s hard to beat.
