This is exactly the kind of experience I was hoping for! I was greeted as soon as I walked and asked my name! There were other customers, but they got me started, on the computer, measuring my feet right away. They called me I told them exactly what I wanted and my concerns. They selected 3 shoes, I loved two pairs! They encouraged me to try them with my orthotics and without!!! Totally looking forward to wearing BOTH pairs of sneakers I purchased!!! Thank you!
Competitive prices and knowledgeable nice folks to assist, highly recommended!
No need to go anywhere else for running gear. They are simply the best. Five visits, all with a purchase and 100% satisfied. They truly listen and care.
Purchased a pair of Hoka’s One and was influenced by sales telling me its a 500 mile shoe. They were very comfortable and lightweight. After 5 months of light use, walking, the soles were worn to smoothe surfaces in sections. .Nick C, contacted me the next day to resolve this issue. The new shoe had a design to protect the wear of the soft cushioning. Very helpful and professional. Thank you Nick for your response and the exchange on a wide selection.
After having a rough experience in the location I was for lack of better words, annoyed with service. I did receive a phone call from a higher up, all matters have been resolved. The customer service has changed for the better in the store. The staff is now very knowledgeable and I do recommend giving them a try.
Good small shop. Staff is helpful depending on who is there. Good selection of energy gels, etc. Big selection of shoes, but not the nikes I buy. On the expensive side like any specialty store.
Nice employees but they need to be more confident in their recommendations. I admit and had admitted to the sales people while there that I have a difficulty deciding what size shoe is appropriate for me ….might sound odd but it’s true- same thing with clothes, I’m not abel to decipher what fits best for me- for whatever reason. The reason I go to customer service type stores is service and expertise- expecting to pay more for just that. Allowing someone to walk outside the door with clearly a size and a half too large is really inexcusable. I went back and returned the shoes and left with again with a half size too large for my foot. If the sales people can’t guide you in the right direction what are we paying the extra cost for?
I went to them to get a pair of hokas. I tried them on in store but wanted a different color so I was going to order online. The staff told me that they had a special relationship and it would be better for me to order through them. I was then told it would take 3 weeks. My girlfriend ordered the same pair of shoes a week later that came in 3 days. Then three weeks passed and I called them just to be told that they did not have my order in their system and no records of my name or number. I had been charged on my credit card, so I called them back. I feel like they should have been the ones to contact me in the first place. I also was shocked that when I called there was not really ever a sincere apology and they were not proactive in helping at all. I have already gone online found the same shoes (at a discount I might add) ordered and received them all within a week.
4. Saybrook Hardware Co.
Address: 132 Main St, Old Saybrook, CT 06475 , Old Saybrook , Connecticut , United States
Friendly associates on the floor, but checkout was to long before another register opened to take the person behind me that was in line for a minute
They have most typical hardware stock
Efficient, fast, friendly, a good place to get what you need in hardware supplies and having keys made that fit right the first time
They have most everything you could possibly want the prices could be a little bit better but it’s decent even the things that you wanted to order they have it overall a very good place
5. Bongo Ron’s Cigar & Lounge
Address: 65 Main St, Old Saybrook, CT 06475 , Old Saybrook , Connecticut , United States
Always have a great time here. Friendly knowledgeable people. Reasonable prices and good selection.
This is a fantastic shop. I had one cigar that was plugged. Ron was amazing — immediately gave me something nicer in exchange and knew exactly what I’d like based on my tastes. Incredible customer service and knowledge!
I couldn’t recommend this place enough! It is cool, calm and relaxing! Everything I expect out of a cigar shop! The owners are extremely nice, knowledgable and friendly. They remember what my husband and I bought the last time we were there and if we liked it, if we didnt and how they could do better in their recommendations. They asked what we are eating and drinking and are extremely talented in pairing a cigar with our food and drink of choice. Bongo Ron’s is THE BEST CIGAR SHOP IN CT…if you havent gone, make sure that is your next stop for your next cigar!
Knowledgeable and helpful. Decent selection and good prices.
Great place to get a cigar
6. Walmart
Address: 665 Boston Post Rd, Old Saybrook, CT 06475 , Old Saybrook , Connecticut , United States
Classic Walmart, has a wide assortment of categories and items. Typically easy to find what you came for, and not feel like a major up charge on anything particular. Clean and well staffed.
Great store
They need more places to return carriages in the parking lot.
The store is not as busy as it usually is the day after Christmas; returns weren’t questioned.
Nice selection.
You get what you pay for i bought three phones from this wallmart a bike and recharging batteries for my phone all garbage phones crashed bike rim kept getting flats. None of it lasted. They must call themselves wallmart becaues they throw the stuff up against the wall before they sell it. AND THEY WOULDNT LET ME RETURN THE BIKE EAVEN THOUGH IT CAME FROM THIER STORE AND I HAD THE RECIEPT. not a good store. I would have to be desperate to shop there!!!!!
Self checkout machine wouldn’t take my $20 bill, kept spitting it out.. It had a TINY tear on the top of the bill, less than an inch long, small triangle shape.. I asked cashier, ‘could you take it-and ill put the rest on my card?’, the woman examined it like it was something she had never seen before for a WHILE, finally said “it’s damaged, I can’t take it if the machine won’t, how would we count it at the end of the day?” As I stood there baffled wondering how a ripped bill has NEVER crossed Walmarts path before, she continued to stand there quietly still looking at the tiny rip in bill. Now frustrated that legal tender is being refused for unvalid reasons.. and not wanting to take an HOUR for her to speak but still not help.. I grabbed it back from her and said “luckilly i have my card..SO, I guess I’ll just throw this $20 away then..” She remained silent wondering why I was frustrated and I used my card.. she never asked someone else about it, thought it was fake, ask customer service.. nothing. It was CASH.. I’ve seen cash come out of self checkout machine..taped back together… is it ME?
Is there a more depressing place on earth? I don’t think so. Sometimes you have to make a deal with the devil and this is the place. Especially since they ran off 90% of the mom and pop stores that used to sell actual quality stuff.
But hey, if you need something right now, and you don’t care that it will fall apart after a couple uses, and you like saving that dollar that you would have spent at someplace with integrity…. Then you’re in the right place.
The Waltons will thank you as you help expand their massive monuments to irresponsible and unconscionable capitalism and underpaid workers who are trained to say things like “at least I have a job” and “I could be worse” as they sign up for free healthcare from the state because they don’t deserve to earn enough for a decent living. (How was that for a run-on sentence/rant)
Also. Diapers are the cheapest here and you can get them in huge boxes.
Needed to buy a journal today and have my account number updated. Christian was exceptional: kind, helpful, and quite personable. A real professional.
Not crowded and very helpful
Needed to package books for mailing. I purchased a box. The employee in the shipping area was very helpful in cutting box to size and taping it up for me.
Decent service.. but terrible cellphone service. Had to step outside and come back a few times to retrieve important information from my phone.
They have been adjusting their technology stock, less selection of computers, more printers, very little software in the stores.
Helpful staff
I thought the idea of laminating vaccine cards for free was brilliant. Bring customers into your store for a free service that probably cost pennies. A lot less cost than advertising. But if you are going to treat people like they are a bother when they take you up on your offer you are doing more damage than good. 3-26-21 around noon. Bad move, would have rather paid for it and been treated with some respect.
Quite possibly the worst retail store in the area. It’s not uncommon for the more expensive items (software, webcams, cameras, computer parts, etc.) to have a placeholder box on the shelf, which you bring the to front and they get the item for you from a stock room. I have gone in to purchase an item at the store on THREE separate occasions (that the Staples website indicated was in stock at the store), brought the placeholder box to the front, and was told “We’ll have to order that from the website for you.”
My reaction: “Then why are there three boxes for this item on the shelf?”
Manager’s response: “Sometimes we don’t pull those boxes. We have to order it for you.”
Me: “But your website says that you have the item in stock.”
Manager: “We don’t, but we can order it for you.”
Crappy store, crappy service. Order your stuff from Amazon and get it on time for half as much.
Dropped off very expensive opera tickets to be picked up by ups and staples must have lost them.
9. Paperback Cafe
Address: 210 Main St #8, Old Saybrook, CT 06475 , Old Saybrook , Connecticut , United States
Do you want to book store that beats all other bookstores? Then you go here
Lovely small bookstore
Good place to buy a good book
Lots and lots of books. Many shoreline books you won’t find in any other store.
We stopped into Harbor Books today with our children, who are 2 and 4. They are young children and energetic, but they also know how to behave. My younger daughter handed me a Children’s book off the shelf, I said yes, that’s a book, and I put it back on the shelf. The man behind the counter VERY rudely said “Those books are for adults to buy,” to which I said, “Yes, I realize that.” He replied with (still quite rudely) “This is NOT a library. Those books are for purchase.” I took my children and left. They weren’t causing any sort of trouble, there wasn’t anyone else in the store, and the display of children’s books are right at floor level very accessible for young children to look at. I understand the concern about children potentially destroying books and displays, but mine were not misbehaving, I put the book back as soon as it was handed to me, and I was getting ready to tell my daughter that we look at them, not touch. I don’t know ANYONE who goes to a book store without thumbing through the books, and this employee (I don’t know if he was the owner or a clerk) made it quite apparent that we were not welcome there despite the prominent display of children’s books and the open door to the street. I wouldn’t recommend this store to anyone.
Kind of pricey and a bit compact. Busy for sure but no real atmosphere.
11. HTS (Houseware Thrift Store)
Address: 835 & 837 Boston Post Rd, Old Saybrook, CT 06475 , Old Saybrook , Connecticut , United States
Had battery change on watch very nice and fast. Extremely knowledgeable about watches. I will be back
Great selection and friendly staff
Nice with some unique finds. Was my first time there and I’ll pop in occasionally. Owner is nice. Just wish the owner(s) were a little more honest.
Lots of great treasures, but owner will bully you into a purchase. Even after many “no”s the questions didn’t stop. “How much for you to take it?” “no, we’re good.” “Come on, how much?” Then was charged 5 more than agreed on.
I had this store handle an estate sale for me. Some expensive antiques we had researched were sold for a small percent of what they were worth. Research was not done on the items before the sale. In addition I never received an accounting of what they sold of our goods. They claimed they had kept a list, but after 4 requests we got nothing.
12. The Estuary
Address: 889 Boston Post Rd, Old Saybrook, CT 06475 , Old Saybrook , Connecticut , United States
The hidden gem of Old Saybrook; perfect place for antique lovers. Everything is so unique, collected from all over the world by the owner. This is my favorite antique shop!
I met Akill this weekend when my husband, son and I stopped by his shop.
What a beautifully displayed shop. Even the smell of the shop was so pleasant, not musty and stuffy like most shops.
My son purchased a metal sign and I some specialty soap. The lemongrass soap and the other green soap. I forget the name. The smell of the soaps was so soothing. I exchanged my connection to the lemongrass one with Akill.
Akill is such a knowledgeable, interesting, and kind man. I did not meet his wife but I read that she designed the layout of the shop. I’m sure she is just as interesting as he is.
The short time we spent chatting he made us laugh, smile and travel the world looking at his collection. He took his time to explain some of his cherished findings and we loved listening to the background and history.
I wish I could have bought more. Maybe another time.
I am so glad we stopped in and believe I should share good experiences. We hear so much bad in the world. I like to highlight the good.
So if you find yourself in the area stop by and walk through his shop and look at all the beautiful pieces he has collected.
I was browsing the pictures the shop posted on facebook. I saw a small hutch with upper glass doors. It is exactly what I want to store my colorful fabrics in.
I did not buy anything here, but the antiques here are definitely unique… some were a little creepy lol The owner was kinda pushy and tried to get me to buy his all-natural soaps so that made me hesitant about exploring the store further. Anyway, seems like a great place for unusual antique finds if you are into that.
I’ve bought a bunch of stuff from this place over the years. the gentleman there has always been very polite. He’s always very friendly. He seems extremely knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend the place to others.
This shop definitely had interesting items. I kind of felt like I was in a museum. However, everything in the shop is in the hundreds of dollars range. Nothing is within the standard range thar I’ve experienced when antiquing all over the country and coasts. I did enjoy the French music that was playing, but all in all I’d skip this stop our next time through as it just wasn’t for us.
The owner is pretty dishonest. I’ve asked about the same item three times in the past year (hoping he’d lower his outrageous asking price), and each time he came up with a different backstory about the item. I guess he didn’t remember me. Sleazy car salesman type – you’ve been warned!
14. Estate Treasures of Old Saybrook
Address: 523 Boston Post Rd, Old Saybrook, CT 06475 , Old Saybrook , Connecticut , United States
Great antique and gift shop with large and changinging selection. Very helpful staff and reasonable
AWESOME
Good variety
Co-op sales space.
Not for me. Nothing nautical and mant items that aren’t truly vintage or antique, but made to look so or clearly from a tag sale and flipped. That’s OK, not every store is for everyone.
Website lists hours as 10-5, 7 days a week. A friend went to look at an item for me at 1:00 pm and the store was locked. While making a call in his car from the parking lot, a female exited the store. He tried to ask her about shopping and was told that she didn’t have time for him, she had to leave and she walked away.
I feel bad he drove out there for me. I have to say I’ve never been there and, based on what they did to him, I’ll never go….neither will he.
15. Lombardozzi Guitars
Address: 70 Long Hill Rd, Clinton, CT 06413 , Old Saybrook , Connecticut , United States
Because many of these reviews seem to be the same group of kids upset that they were asked not to bring in backpacks or someone giving one star because they don’t carry a whole video game system.
The store is clean, I rarely find items out of place. I’m greeted the moment I walk in and asked if I need any help. They don’t always have what I’m looking for, but that means it’s an excuse to go back. My only issue is they open at 10.
Was very busy
The worker was so nice I wasn’t there all that long before he came over said hi asked how I was and wanted to know if I needed help
Helpful staff, good selection of items.
Very nice people but everything wasn’t under 5 bucks there were some things for 25. That to me is no 5below
My daughter loves this place, always friendly
This place is terrible I’ve gotten accused of stealing the seconded time I’m just 13 years old and I shouldn’t have to go through this every time I enter the store terrible store I would suggest not to go there
I went to this Five Below yesterday with a friend after school, and we were so disappointed. We walked in after school and shopped for about 20 minutes before I had to use the restroom. Once I walked out, my friend went in to throw out a wrapper she had from earlier on the day, and we went on with our shopping. That’s when I heard two workers talking behind me saying “Go check that bathroom, I don’t trust those kids.” We kept shopping and ended up in an isle. That’s when we were approached by three other workers, and one said “Kids, for future reference, no backpacks in here.” We felt weird, but at this point our friend walked in and offered to watch them outside. I went to checkout while my friend stayed in the isle, with the three employees, who could’ve been doing their job, were still watching a 13 year old child like a hawk. I headed outside after I finished, and my friend came up to me and goes “They were talking bad about you.” I asked what they said and she goes “I’ve worked at so many stores, and I always see kids walk in with backpacks empty and leave with them full, I never want to see those kids here again, and I know what that boy was doing.” We left, and never want to go back. I would give 0 stars if I could
I will never go to this store again they are rude they follow around felt uncomfortable.not friendly at all .I rather stay at Walmart next Door ….

18. McDonald’s
Address: 1061 Boston Post Rd, Old Saybrook, CT 06475 , Old Saybrook , Connecticut , United States
View of Long Island Sound from the dining room & a large Americano to-go. What’s not to love?
Fast service. Food’s always just cooked. It’s always clean!!
Great
Same old same old
Decent, wants the best not the worst
Dirty restaurant, both where I could see behind the counter and in the dining room. 3 p.m on a Sunday not their busiest time should have been cleaner. Slow service.
Blah
Bad service
Poor customer service.. rude.. Couldn’t even get my food.
19. Old Glory Store – Old Saybrook
Address: 1804 Boston Post Rd, Old Saybrook, CT 06475 , Old Saybrook , Connecticut , United States
Old Glory has been my go to store for silver jewelry for close to 40 years.I’m not a shopper, but I could browse forever in Old Glory. It is my favorite store.
Always love this place! A must stop when we’re at the shore!
Lots of cool stuff
Lots of stuff, friendly staff. Been there many times.
there are nice things to make a gift
A little more Rock N Roll memorabilia than the other store, but still high (pun intended) in marijuana related merchandise. Friendly staff.
Place has gone downhill! I have been a longtime faithful customer visiting all 3 locations many times. If you are planning on placing an order online… beware. Their inventory is not properly calculated! I ordered an item online, paid with a credit card and after I still haven’t heard anything from them or received a shipping update, so I decided to e-mail customer service. Within an hour I received a message saying order canceled because the item is out-of-stock. That was it, there was absolutely no resolution for their error, they did rectify the situation which led me to rate and write this review. If I owned a company and failed to deliver, I would offer the customer a small store credit as an apology due to business error…. not the customers fault!!! Remember, I was trying to give you business!
This place has really changed from the store we grew up going to. And not in a good way. It’s a shame.
Next day shipping is a joke! After 10 days, contacted them and was promised my shirt would ship that day via priority mail. Never happened. Had to contact the BBB to get a refund. Avoid this website!
