Very friendly staff! Avery and Neil were especially helpful!
Definitely a go to spot! I had Neil show me how to restring my guitar because my Floyd Rose had always given me troubles when I tried doing it myself. I’m confident I can handle doing it myself now, and if I have any troubles I know who to go to!
There is so much to love about AZ Music Pro! There is a of course, a great selection of instruments and musical accessories in space that still easy to find your way around.
The staff is not only attentive and knowledgeable, but they’re friendly and super cool too! I’ve had first rate service every time I’ve been in there, getting instruments for my kids’ music lessons, Xmas presents and they also donated sound equipment for my kids school winter fest.
Ceta Singley gives amazing music lessons, and as a fellow parent I can say he has a fun a patient nature with the kids. Jack was also quite the gentleman and helped me find the perfect gifts that were age and skill level appropriate for each of my kids. They’re my music shop of choice in Flagstaff and I highly recommend them for all your musical needs!

Thank you Neil!! This guy totally hooked up the hardware. Then actually took the time to explain to me, how to do it myself. Quality merch and inspiring customer service.
I’ve been in this store many times. Sometimes I found what I was looking for and some not. But I have never been treated with anything but concern for what I needed. “Just a suggestion to all folks that don’t like the way people look at them. Take a look in the mirror at what they see.”
Not very friendly. Also they seem to have an attitude about anybody playing their instruments… I will certainly go out of my way to avoid this place
The instrument selection is pretty good. Prices are crazy, but that is normal for the area. My problem is with the repair center, since they botched a split repair after having it for 3 weeks. When I got it back, it had several additional cracks from the repair process, which opened up less than a day later. If the issue is cracking due to low humidity, doesn’t it make sense to humidify the guitar before attempting repairs? Save your money and drive to Phoenix, or do it yourself.
Just bought a ukelele from here with apparent buzzing after you play for a while. When going to see if it could be fixed or trade in, the manager looked at it and played it, and pretended he couldn’t hear the loud buzzing. While other customers in the store also said they could hear the obvious loud buzzing. And responded with “it sounds like a ukulele buddy” in a condescending tone. I’ve purchased multiple instruments from here with good service from the people, but I will no longer give a single penny to the store after this rude interaction of being sold a faulty instrument and then being talked to as if I was too unintelligent to understand the sound.
Ryan took in my ancient Fender, did an assessment and took the care to set it up totally right. Such an improvement! It is very old and probably a bit fragile. But he did all the right things. He was wise enough not to go overboard and tear the guitar apart knowing it was working well otherwise also knowing what my purpose for it was. Great service! Highly recommend!
Flagstaff is lucky to have a luthier that cares as much about our guitars as we do! I might have cried a bit, when I discovered my Grandma’s 1971 Martin with its headstock broken in half, following a party at my house (teenagers), but when I finalled gathered the courage to take it in to a shop, to see if it couls be repaired, I had no idea it would feel like dropping off your kids, at their grandparents house. Ryan’s expertise, and true love of instruments, immediately put me at ease, and gave me hope. When the extensive repairs were complete (fix broken head, replace frets, bridge, bridge pins, recondition fingerboard, new strings, and pro setup), I was both relieved and ecstatic. I knew at the first strum, that this guitar was not just back from the dead, but had probably never played so well, in its life. The action was sooo much lighter, and the intonation even better than before (if that’s possible on such a tank of a guitar?!?), I was beside myself. After gladly forking over some dough (which was below estimate, and included some extra TLC), I rushed home without my feet ever touching the ground. Wow! I mean WOW! Bombastic tone, and playability was amazing. Grandma would be proud, and I can’t stop smiling. Many thanks, Ryan ❤
A nice, small music store with that ‘local feel.’ It is no Guitar Center, but what they lack in selection they make up for in customer service / helping real musicians.
Very helpful..
Good place good service
4. Thomas Byers Guitar Studio
Address: 120 S Beaver St, Flagstaff, AZ 86001 , Parks , Arizona , United States
All of the instructors at the guitar studio are amazing! whatever you want to learn they have a specialized instructor for you. They also have online lessons. So cool. Great parking and easy pay options!
Thomas is an excellent teacher and I learned so much about the guitar.
5. Grand Canyon Music
Address: 2532 N Fourth St, Flagstaff, AZ 86004 , Parks , Arizona , United States
The store has a variety of unusual and hard to find musical instruments, the origins of which come from all over the world. One instrument in particular, the monochord, really calls to the soul when played. The Sacred Rites monochord comes in 3 sizes — a hand-held instrument, a chair and a bed. The owner is very knowledgeable and does sound healing treatments using these amazing instruments. The store has a great vibe and is a destination in and of itself in historic downtown Flagstaff.
I was in there for a short while and the owner sang healing sounds for me while playing on a and a harp chair!! Absolutely Excellent!
If you’re anywhere near the area, this is an absolute must visit. A truly unique shop and experience.

7. Tommy Rocks
Address: 110 Main St, Jerome, AZ 86331 , Parks , Arizona , United States
I went in looking for a very specific item, knowing this store was the only one in the world that could possibly have it. They did and it was in a format I hadn’t dreamed possible.
It was also free!
I did not get to meet Tommy, but judging from the excellent attitude of the clerk, I am sure he’s a rad dude. Thanks!
Rare and Collectible Albums, Instruments and Memorabilia.
I would do this place a disservice by calling it a vintage record store. It is that too, but it’s so much more!
The owner operator is a guy named Tommy Anderson. Aside from being a musician and a defacto musicologist he’s also a great guy and very interesting to talk to.
If you’re into music, his shop is full of fun and fascinating items . Beyond the obligatory Grateful Dead stickers and things like that, he carries things like thousand-piece Pink Floyd puzzles and satirical takes on traditional album covers. He also carries a lot of high-end, really impressive autographed instruments and record albums. Even audiophiles will find equipment that will make their mouths water.
On the other hand if you just want to buy a ukulele or guitar to learn on, he can help you with that and give you great advice as well.
He’s also an accomplished musician and a music teacher.
His store is part museum, part music store, part curio store, and supports local musicians. It’s hard to beat!
If you’re in Jerome and like music history and music paraphernalia, or if you’re a serious collector, you really need to stop in and see this place. While you are there, say hi to Tommy for me. I really had a blast in his store!
Make sure to take a look at some of the photos I posted, to give you a better idea of what you might find in there.
He always has great things here
Dude man. Stick to some normal operating hours. I’ve passed through Jerome twice now and you haven’t been opened when you said you were supposed to be. It’s 10:30 am now says your supposed to be open on google. Sorry for the poor review but really wanna check out your store
An awesome rock and roll memorabilia shop in historic Jerome Arizona…kind of hard to find tho.
Alex has propelled me to the next level. His knowledge and expertise are a great help in my studies. I appreciate his professionalism and punctuality. He always seems to show up with a positive attitude. Thanks Alex!
I consider myself so fortunate to have been under the guidance of Alex in the study of Classical Guitar since 2017.
His positivity, calm demeanor, and thoughtful approach always make my lessons enjoyable and productive. His extensive knowledge of classical guitar repertoire, combined with his ability to adapt it to my current skill level has been a key to my ongoing steady progress. His technical expertise, along with the personalized exercises he suggested, help me overcome specific challenges effectively. What truly stands out is his remarkable musical ear, which he skillfully uses to teach me to accomplish more than “just playing the right notes at the right time”.
I am so grateful to have such an outstanding teacher!
Alex is a gifted musician AND a gifted teacher. He helps his students get to the next level while focusing on their interests and capabilities. He has the skills to modify complex pieces to make them more manageable while initially mastering a new song. Alex quickly built rapport with our teenage son, and he respects him as a teacher and guitarist.
9. John’s Corner Music Shop
Address: 8680 AZ-69, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314 , Parks , Arizona , United States
A local music store ran by a knowledgeable owner. John has good instruments for sale at decent prices. If you have any questions regarding guitars, amplifiers, or their many accessories John can answer them.
John’s has a large selection of guitars and other string instruments. There are also some brass instruments. We got a great deal on a trumpet. Great customer service!
John’s is simply the best. Always learn something new. They have a little something for everyone. Fun place, everyone is always welcome and their is usually someone playing a little something. A Musicians home away from home. I just can’t sas enough great things about this spot.
Low quality gear that is way over priced.
wouldn’t give it even one star! I just went in to grab some guitar strings and was never once acknowledged the whole time I was there. Not even a greeting. needless to say I walked out. Not sure what the deal is in this town but I have yet to encounter any sort of professionalism with the businesses here!!!
10. PRESCOTT VALLEY MUSIC – PV MUSIC
Address: 8561 Florentine Rd suite a, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314 , Parks , Arizona , United States
I discovered PV music and Russell by accident, just cruising through the neighborhood. Took my relatively inexpensive guitar to Russell hoping he could improve the guitar’s player unfriendly action (for a geezer). He did a fantastic job. The guitar is so easy and smooth to play. The turn around time was super. Very good guy….I will definitely patronize PV music. OK, Russell…….you owe me a couple of beers. LOL
Wonderful experience in a store with all kinds of musical instruments. I came in looking for something specific but left with something even better.
As a sound healer, playing the instruments before purchase is so important.
The crystal harp I purchased resonates beautifully. I’m so grateful to have found it. Playing the harp brings balance, healing and joy!
Thank you!
Came in for a guitar case and Russ was very helpful and friendly. This is my first choice if need of any music accessories or anything music related! Thank you, Russ!
I stopped by Prescott Valley Music looking for someone to repair my flute. Even though they specialize in guitar repair, he fixed my flute within minutes at no charge. I will definitely go back with my guitar needs.
Went there with a friend.
I think all they sell is USED. Even patch cords. 🙁 Totally disgusting and disappointed.
Sadly, and most regrettably, I must report that Russell, the proprietor of PVM, used his prior good business standing to consign, endorse, solicit, directly accept partial payment for, a fraudulently, utterly misrepresented $3k instrument, that is so INTENTIONALLY damaged (a 40” gong, sawn into THREE parts, then poorly soldered back together) that it is basically rendered useless as a musical instrument. He also personally/professionally arranged for its delivery and attested to the instrument’s ‘excellent’ condition (all in email and voicemails, still retained as evidence).
Initially responsive, and seemingly aghast, he and the seller he worked with, and as agent for, now decline to correspond or address this, each saying neither or the other is responsible.
A $3k scam?????
BEWARE!!
Don’t buy vinyl from them
11. Soundroom
Address: 3050 N Windsong Dr Suite#103, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314 , Parks , Arizona , United States
Jay seems like a very decent and good businessman. I really hope he can keep the doors open and perhaps hire a day person to allow for daytime hours. Drums are hard to find in this area.
Great music shop!
That’s my uncles shop . I gave it a 5 because its small but really good for it starting on July 3. And its like the only music shop in PV. Love you Uncle Jay
It’s okay , inside the Mall , didn’t have what I was looking for .
Great store… decent prices. Went in for a used classical guitar and came out with a nice one. Came with case even. Added an American -made humidifier, works well. Smaller place, but has the important things. Recommend highly
It’s okay place kind of small
Burned by this store over a Reverb purchase. I paid $450 total for a mini french horn they advertised as in “excellent” condition. When I recieved the horn I started noticing that the 3rd valve doesn’t close and open all the way disrupting airflow when pressing and depressing. Even after oiling the valve, there was no change. This horn is non-functional to a player. 1st the store decieded to deny any return or exchange to address the issue immediately. Then I tried to contact Reverb customer care and tried demonstrating this in a video to them. Both the seller and Reverb responded with a guilty until proven innocent skepticism that left me stuck with an unplayable horn. It took a lot of hassle and time away from normal living dealing with both of them. I would advise anyone not to buy a brass or woodwind instrument from this store unless you can inspect it first. Either they don’t play the instrument themselve, or they knowingly sold an unplayable instrument not caring.
I have played horn (F horn) semi-professionally for over 22 years in wind bands, orchestras, and jazz ensembles. I also have extensive knowlege of major brands and makers and designs of horns and am qualified to advise other players.
Sux
pretty bad guitar setup. took over a day and went to pick it up and the guitar was dirty. they didn’t even clean it there was dust all over it. there was a loose screw in the saddle i had to fix. low e string buzzing worse than before. save your time and your money and go to a better place.
Best guitar shop I’ve ever been to! Fantastic customer service, went to several different shops looking for a first guitar. None of the other shops showed the same respect for a beginner artist.
Rick (the owner) is a professional in every sense of the word! His business is like walking into a mini-museum of cool and unique and vintage instruments, books, art work, and vinyl. His guitars are quality pieces that run the gamut from beginner to pro. I have been a musician for over 40 years and Rick is absolutely one of the best technicians I’ve come across…I’ve purchased 3 different guitars from his shop over the past year and I can’t wait to buy again! Please patronize the last of a kind operation!
Great place to find something different.
Listed as open on Monday. Drove from Spring Valley to find them closed. Need to correct this.
The owner is a pretty cool guy. Very knowledgeable on everything in the store. He has also made guitars for some of the biggest names in music history.
The owner of this establishment is beyond rude, he didn’t answer any questions (which I believe is because he has 0 knowledge of anything pertaining to his little business) and he over prices everything. I understand it’s a local business so prices will be higher but his USED banged up instruments are at least 70% higher than anywhere else for the same NEW instruments which is unreasonable.
I’ll be shopping at a honest local music shop.
Thank You
15. Mudshark Recording Studios
Address: 7055 N Chambers Dr, Flagstaff, AZ 86001 , Parks , Arizona , United States
These guys are great, and very helpful. My first time there. I bought a new amp and a used Fender. Two days later, I changed my mind and decided I wanted a new Fender instead. I took the used Fender back, and Addison made the exchange quick and easy with no hassle, and even discounted the new guitar. I’m very happy.
Wonderful staff and owner, and a pleasure to do business with. I got my new to me Taylor from these guys and I couldn’t be happier. Professional from start to finish and I really can’t say enough about them. Do yourself a favor and give Gray dog Guitars a visit, you won’t regret doing business with them!
This is a cool shop, they have all ranges of guitars from inexpensive to guitars you may only get to see once in a lifetime. Prices are reasonable customer service is top notch!
Owner operator was extremely helpful to blind customer I was chauffeuring
Great atmosphere and good service. The special of a day which was a beef salad was rather mediocre and tasteless.
Its a nice store really small some prices are expensive but overall good store nice customer service
Gray Dog music is only good for when you need something in an emergency, otherwise there’s no point is paying those prices. Prices that you only realize are so high when you get all the way to the register since almost nothing in the store has a clearly marked price on it. You have to individually inquire for every item… Even there used equipment was priced similarly to buying it brand new elsewhere. To top it off the gentleman working the counter actually got short with me because I kept having to ask what all there stuff cost. Horrible experience would not recommend to my worst enemy.
Parking: The parking is the ONLY good thing about Grey Dog Music.
It’s a nice store. But they only sell guitars and related supplies. The pedal selection was weak if I was looking for pedals I would go online. Pretty much zero music scene in Prescott anymore. They cater to trendoids in my opinion. The selection was a huge bummer for me nothing but acoustic guitars.

18. Synthesaur Recording
Address: Kachina Village, AZ 86001 , Parks , Arizona , United States
Great service and friendly staff. They will price match too! We will be returning there often!
Very helpful courteous staff. Wide range of low-end to high-end instruments. More inclusive variety of Instruments for various music applications. Excellent quality store brand products.
Excellent service and a wide variety of affordable and well kept instruments.
Steve in the drum department was very helpful.
First time in store but they came w/the highest glowing recommendation. I bought an acoustic guitar for my 10 yr old great grandson. But there was only 1 sales person available in that section for 6 clients, plus answering the phone. I did buy the guitar but nothing else. Questions & supplies will have to wait till after Christmas!
People were helpful and friendly.
Inventory for ukuleles and accessories are almost non existent. Poor string selection and restringing supplies such as nut lubricant was out.
Over priced and customer assistance is lacking the knowledge necessary to help customers.
Sam Ash in Phoenix has gone down hill. They really have a low end selection of guitars right now in there. From brands I’ve never heard of. They had maybe 2 Les Paul classics and that was it for higher end guitars.
20. Boogie Music
Address: 3562 W Cactus Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85029 , Parks , Arizona , United States
This is a fantastic independent music store. The customer service I received here was just top notch. The deal I received on my purchase was beyond my expectations. I would recommend anyone stop by here whenever making an instrument or accessory purchase. Can’t recommend enough!
We have been renting a Cello from Boogie music for 3 years and couldn’t be more please with the service we have had. Their policy on rent to own is fantastic! Another child just started with the trumpet so I dug mine out of the garage and brought it in for a tune up. We agreed on a price, and it was sent off. It took about a week and when it came back several things that were not discussed at first had happened to repair my trumpet. A new price was never even mentioned and the original price was honored. I am so impressed with Boogie Music!!!
Great people great service very informative
I just want to give smaller independent shops my business but selection is rather limited here. When I inquired about an item, they actually looked it up on the Sam Ash website and advised they can order it but 1) I’d have to wait until they do their next order, 2) it would cost more than at Sam Ash, Guitar Center, and Amazon and 3) I’d have to pay for shipping. Seriously, if that’s the way you can give me something you don’t have you’ve just GOT to know that’s a crappy deal for me. Just tell me to buy it elsewhere and that you hope you can help me with something else. They can’t seriously expect me to find that even remotely okay can they?
They have a nice selection for a small place. Fair prices too!
They are very helpful and answer my questions about learning how to play the guitar.
500+ schecter guitar I wanted to trade in BRAND NEW. wanted to give me 200. Sam Ash offered to fix the floyd for 80. Sam ash thanks you for your business
First time going to the store and was honestly excited to buy a ukelele and as I walked in me and my friends were rudely approached by a lady who practically shoved us out the door and told us we needed a mask and only one person at a time even though she herself was not wearing one. As I exited I informed her that there was no sigh on the door stating any of this and it would be a good idea to place one up. I walked to my car got my mask and walked back to the store to find it locked I stood outside for a few minutes and was disappointed to not even have an employee tell me to please wait for further assistance. Horrible customer service I totally get what’s going on and I’m happy to wear my mask but please plan your reopening better.
Was treated very rudely by the owner. Went there to try to sell them a guitar and he looked at my guitar and very rudely in my opinion said he wasn’t interested at all then I continue to look around the store for a little bit with some friends. I saw a stand up bass which I wanted to play in the Jazz way there was no sign or anything mentioning that this was not theirs and that this was someone’s that was there for repair. I started to play on it after moving it from where it was and the owner came back and said something to the effect of that’s not ours man that’s here for repair or something else similar. He did not at all say excuse me but that’s not our instrument can you please put it back in like a nice calm manner he said it in a way that I took very rudely and that you’ve been my friends which was 3 agreed was very rude. On top of that I feel like although the store is kind of cool because it does have some older vintage instruments from the early 20th century I just personally think that I Won’t Go Back unless that is my only option. Not everyone probably gets rude customer service but I definitely did.
