The Staff is honest, experienced, friendly and Musically Knowledgeable. Great Products and Good Prices. Gelb has the Best Customer service. No Joke!
The only music store that carries my drum Stix!
Bye bye GC!
I went to see some portable pianos, and even though their shop is small, their collection is far better than most big shops. Especially if you are learner/amateur and looking for a serious mid-range instrument, you should come to this place. The people are very friendly and show you various instruments in detail.
Great customer service. Big instrument selection.
Selection is really good. Nice instruments, And I like the atmosphere. A classic old store, kinda historic. A little pricey (for this I blame the insanity of real estate in the area, not them). Some music store staff are great. Some are typical.
I have found that music store workers are mostly of two varieties: the typical kind, who tend to have this undercurrent of rather sexist, judgmental pressure, and those who just love to connect people of all kinds to what they need.
Sigh – this place has both.
Unfortunately, there are a LOT of the typical kind in this world, and female (or otherwise not “Rock Star” types) really feel it. It is like they somehow need to prove that they are more knowledgeable than me, or something. Very tiring. I want to tell them, “look, I know you wanted to be a professional performer and it feels degrading to be working in a music store, and that you feel like selling stuff to female musicians makes you feel even further from your standards of your own self-image. But you really need to heal that, not surround yourself with a bubble of asserted wannabe dominance. It is not helping you at all. this is actually a really cool .”
To be fair, I only really got this attitude a little here, and it was pretty subtle (but there). Everyone else has been fine. But even a little makes it hard to want to come back. I think music store owners need to screen this, and train people out of it. Or better yet, hire some good female staff.
But I do come back, because the location is good and they have good stuff and they are historic and small. I like them overall. And it is very rare to find places that do not have that phenomenon. So they are not losing my business any time soon. I just hope that one issue gets fixed. Everywhere.
Kudos to the independent music store that has endured the test of time… probably due to their friendly, no pressure staff. Would have liked to see more guitars and basses not mass manufactured by Fender and Gibson and Rickenbacker. Gelb has some vintage and few boutique guitars by Anderson and Suhr… didn’t see any Zon or other California bass makers… which IMO they could use more, but being around for so long means they are doing something right.
Very disappointed this time as they are being unprofessional. I ordered guitar cleaning service, but when I picked up my guitar, it was only half cleaned. They explained that when they were doing the cleaning, they figured out that they didn’t charge me enough.
Okay, then you should have given me a phone call, explaining everything, not just leave your job half done.
I bought a speaker from these guys back in June and it failed after 2 uses. They wouldn’t lift a finger to help me even though it was less than 30 days old so I had to send it back myself. Its now the middle of December and I still don’t have a speaker to use.
Long story short don’t waste your money here. They clearly are only in business to make a buck and could care less about their customers.
Drum Section SUCKS. Don Frank is a Crapy Drummer and a Total QUACK. He guilt trips you if you don’t buy anything. He’s exactly like the former owner of Drum World, Don Sfarzo who was rude and treated customers like Garbage. They rush you out of the shop if you don’t buy anything. Worse place with no Parking.

Ordered a replacement piano part. It shipped within a couple hours of placing the order and arrived quickly. Very safely packaged to prevent damage. Thanks!
A fabulous store with an awesome owner!
A piece of history on Haight Street. Helpful staff and a great selection of instruments. They carry acoustic guitars at a wide range of prices. I hope they can stay!
My brother and I found the store by accident while visiting San Francisco. The staff was kind giving us freedom to try the instruments, explore the store and its stuff, and was very helpful to my brother giving advice about keyboards and stuff.
I think this is one of the best music stores in town. Good service, they are really friendly every time I go in, and always seem to have all the really cool stuff you can’t find at chain stores.
I was looking for this other used DVD store in the Haight, but I guess they closed their doors so we ended up here just walking by. They have tons of DVD’s, though some of the pricing was odd. They had better deals with box series. They have both new and used so you have to pay attention to what you’re getting. I like the way they organized the movies in categories and also had a series and BBC section.
Horrible service, over priced equipment and when i went in for electrical help with my guitar they were so disrespectful to me that i had to leave.
Vastly overpriced and rude. Tried to call and get prices and they said they don’t have time to help me. Good riddance.
Went in to gain knowledge on an instrument. Wanted to trade. Was lowballed. Thanked them for their time and left.
3. Gilbert Tuners

I have had a very good experience. I bought them in 2016 and they are still intact. The tuning of my guitar is firm. I have traveled for a month several times and when I return the tuning has not moved. The best!!!
I just received my tuners and installed them. They’re beautiful and work wonderfully! I’d highly recommend them.
Are you still in business? I’m a return customer and your phone number no longer works a d you have not responded to my email ?! Please respond
4. The Record Man
Address: 1322 El Camino Real, Redwood City, CA 94063 , Redwood City , California , United States
Truly a national treasure. The vibe of the place alone is worth the visit. Cannot recommend the Record Man enough if you love classic Vinyl or even old school games and movie in their Planet Mix!
Best place ever to find music treasures. I found a KISS album that was difficult to find and it was a reasonable price. If you are an I Love Lucy fan, they’ve got DVDs of all of the old classics. Lol.
Classic vinyl in a vintage setting but with customer parking at the gravel lot immediately adjacent to the records shop. Tens of thousands of classic vinyl records and some memorabilia and instruments. Expect pennies on the dollar for any records you sell to the store, unless classic rock albums in excellent condition. Most your records will likely be donations, but better than sending to the landfill. A smaller CD, DVD and Video Game shop is behind the record shop. Expect to be accompanied by the friendly house dogs while you browse.
Outrageous prices, no deals to be had.
Peculiar customer service with certain staff.
Friendly service. However all used vinyl is very overpriced. I spent over an hour picking out used 80’s records. They would be rated G for sleeve and maybe G+ to VG in vinyl quality. They are very dusty and not cleaned. They wanted 24.99 each for records that maybe would fetch 12 on discogs. I bought two new records for that price ea and passed on all the used vinyl. I’ll never go back.
