Dan and Cathy are awesome…. It’s got a great hometown feel and the staff is really helpful/knowledgeable too
Needed and XLR cable same day and they were the only place I went to that had em in stock. lifetime warranty too!
Super knowledgeable staff. I’m having a great time taking guitar lessons!
Good music store, good instrument’s, but not much parking, and the location doesn’t really give the business the store front draw!
Good for a small music store I guess. I bought drum key thinking it was going to be square but it was hexagon. Also, service was ehh.
Helpful and Knowledgeable. They don’t try to sell me on anything extra other than what I need or ask for specifically.
I ordered the bass a year ago in this shop! But so far, they can not send me a bass and do not return the money! What are the problems? I do not know! And nothing intelligible do not meet!
Dan Ernst Owner of grand central music is a Scum Bag with a Capital S.
Bought a roland jx10 from him in feb 2013 said he had it professionally cleaned cause one of the keys did not respond.( shoulda took that as a sighn right there that this would go south.)
Got the roland a week later patch buttons did not work cardtridge port was busted cause he shipped the cardtridge inside of the synth and the internal battery was dead.
Talk to him about going to repair man he got upset and said his repair man pro clean it and made sure it was in running order.
Took it to repair man costed 166.00 he begrudglingly said fine send him receipt.
So rapair man did two weeks go by no response.
The owner is a bs’er and a finagler.
Do not support.
Do not trust.
Eventually we will cross paths Dan.
Thats not a threat.
Thats a promise.
Super nice bunch of dudes! Took one small look around the place and knew it would be my go to spot for studio needs. Getting to go in and watch my song get mixing done in person, and get some awesome tips in the process. Definitely gonna be using these guys a lot!
Great environment and atmosphere. Professional facility. Great quality music coming out of this place !
Also great rehearsal spaces available for monthly or hourly use !
I had a time-sensitive project and Wesley and the crew at The Sauce Pot bent over backwards to make everything sound spectacular. I’m pretty particular about things and not once did Wesley give the impression that I was asking too much of him. We worked on it until we were both satisfied, balancing well my requests and his professional advice. I will definitely be going back for future projects.
6. Musicians Unlimited
Address: 7425 El Camino Real, Atascadero, CA 93422 , San Luis Obispo County , California , United States
Awesome mom and pop music store. The owner is very friendly and helpful.
I had a small guitar repair. I’d tried to fix it myself many times. I took it over to Musicians Unlimited and Jerry fixed it in about 20 minutes. Also, while he was fixing it, I took a look around at his prices, and they were extremely reasonable.
Great if you’re looking for First Act gear.
Called to inquire about an inventory of instruments. Guy on the other line who answered was rude. Not friendly, seemed like it was a hassle for him to answer my questions. I thought, we’ll, not everyone is a phone person so I decided to go in and look for myself. Walked into small store, no one else was inside but the guy. I wasn’t greeted and the whole time the guy was at the computer smacking his lips eating something. Since it was empty – it’s all you could hear. I was a serious buyer and was turned off by the guy and the stores lack of professionalism.
This place is horrible. The guy/owner is rude as hell, seems annoyed to have anyone in there, if you don’t like customer service maybe you should close down. Seriously never come to this place
Straight up best place to find cool vinyl. The staff are knowledgeable and nice
Always a great selection
Always a great experience going in this shop. Such a huge collection of great music and collectibles. Staff is always very kind and conversational.
Vinyl and records seems relatively ignored especially now that vinyl is coming back as a popular music format. Selection is kinda meh but fun if visiting.
Great old school selections
Great finds
Came in with a small stack of video games…said they could not look at them or give me an estimate for 1-2 days and to leave my games with them…excuse me? I’m not just giving you my small personal stack of games just to wait 1 to 2 days for you to tell me the price is probably not what I was expecting. The only thing Cheap about “Cheap Thrills” is there trade in prices.
Cool vintage store however the racism in this place needs to stop white employees thought that I was gonna steal because of the color of my skin or that I looked the part which is discrimination. I should have sued them I felt horrible I was just looking for a movie to buy and to be treated like a criminal just because I looked “different” It Is discrimination you guys should have a sign out saying “whites only” so that you can feel safe in your bubble. Do better
Overpriced and cheap on the trade in credit. With the prices they charge they could be more generous with store credit. However, sometimes it is the only place to find that one piece of media you are missing. Also, people are nice but not the extra mile type. I have called to ask for a certain title and told no they don’t have it only to stop in and find it myself.
These people are the real deal. Kind, professional, talented, and dedicated. My kids have had lessons here for a few years and I can’t recommend them enough. Excellent instructors and competent, friendly staff. RAWK!
My daughters both take singing lessons at Music Motive and I have taken drum lessons. My drumming instruction, Dale, is highly skilled, patient, funny, and excellent at making complicated ideas simple. Both my daughters have enjoyed their lessons.
Great instructors and friendly staff. Great place to learn music no matter what you’re looking for.
11. Triplett Harps
Address: 220 Suburban Rd, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 , San Luis Obispo County , California , United States
I have my one harp from Triplett harps and have been amazed by their love for their craft and their care for my instrument. I have gone in several times to pick up new strings and have been treated so incredibly well. They’re truly amazing craftsmen and I haven’t found another harp with the warmth and tone that my Triplett harp has.
Just bought a Triplett 30 wire strung harp built in 1999. I’ve called numerous times for help with strings/eyelets and wire harp questions. The harp is in great shape after 20+ years and their service has been consistently friendly. Highly recommend!
Great people and fine craftsmanship
12. Ernie Ball Inc
Address: 4117 Earthwood Ln, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 , San Luis Obispo County , California , United States
I never come here.. but I love the product from this place.. Ernie ball Musicman Stingray 5 1996 love the tone and playability so much.. I hope one day I can visit this place..
Outstanding bass (1996 stingray 20th ann.( not on the picture))
One of the best jobs I’ll probably ever work at. Quality is absolute and the workers are determined everyday.
stringcoiling can be a profession
2 packs of Rusted paradigm strings… no refund.. money wasted. 30 years of being loyal.. no more
Matt’s music is very helpful and have great guitar techs.
Awesome store on par with McCabe”s
I rented an instrument from Music & Arts which was a pain to return and the end of the rental period. But the gentleman at the counter was able to help me figure it out. He was incredibly helpful and kind, and I really appreciate their assistance. I strongly recommend stopping by here for any music needs for the type of friendly, caring, small-town service you’d hope to find in Templeton.
Nice little place. Have gone in a few times for reeds and picks. Staff is really nice and helpful.
I will say that they advertise that they have music teachers who offer lessons there. And say to call for availability… don’t waste your time. I called six times (in a month) to inquire about violin lessons and left messages each time, never heard back. Finally go in, and they say they don’t offer lessons for her age, not a big deal, it just was an irritant to not have messages returned.
15. Boo Boo Records Inc
Address: 978 Monterey St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 , San Luis Obispo County , California , United States
Very cool! I loved looking at all the old album covers hanging on the walls and they have a huge selection.
I can spend all day here. Had everything I wanted and more
Iconic spot for music lovers in SLO, and it is definitely worth visiting!
Awesome
you can find those rare gems
There are three rooms. The first had mostly newly released vinyl and gear for the audiophiles. The back rooms had older vinyl and record players. Standard type of record store.
There is metered parking on every street. I paid $4/hr.
Public restrooms are a couple of blocks down by the mission.
Plenty of other shops to wander through on this street and restaurants.
Good selection of records . Just dont order any CDs …. I’m still waiting for my cd n it’s been yrs
Nice to have a local music store. Do not expect Amoeba Records, Tower, or Rasputin. This is a small store. Wish they had an engaged staff, last time I asked them if they had a particular artist they asked if I looked, I replied in the affirmative, they offered zero help. Coming out of Covid retailers stress the importance of shopping local, they need to appreciate the responsibility goes both ways. Show us how they’re better than Amazon.
Records are overpriced.
16. Ron’s Music Studio
Address: 2616 Adobe Rd, Morro Bay, CA 93442 , San Luis Obispo County , California , United States
Ron worked on our daughter’s flute. When she played it she remarked that it had never sounded so good! Ron did a terrific job. His prices are reasonable and he does his best for turn aroud.
17. Central Coast Music
Address: 365 Morro Bay Blvd, Morro Bay, CA 93442 , San Luis Obispo County , California , United States
The guitar tech/repair guy is AMAZING. I’ve brought one guitar in that needed to be repaired from the ground up, and one just for a setup. He does a great job!
Best place to go on the Central Coast….Ed will go the extra mile for you
This place is just cool and old school!
CCM is a Central Coast treasure. Ed has provided us local musicians and lovers an eclectic array of musical instruments and accoutrements for a long time making Morro Bay a better place for it.
Ken does an outstanding job of getting the crowd into the “fun mode” with his musical selections. A true professional. Very upbeat and communicates well to the crowd through his music. Highly recommend for any event.
We love having Ken play at the Cape. He’s great with the guests, plays a variety of music. Highly recommend him.
19. Don’s String Shop
Address: 1030 Los Osos Valley Rd, San Luis Obispo, CA 93402 , San Luis Obispo County , California , United States
A very quaint guitar shop with a wonderful atmosphere and very nice people. Not a huge selection, but the quality makes up for it. Each guitar there had so much character and if its an older one its likely to have a very interesting history. I’d highly recommend it if you want a well made and unique guitar for a fair price.
Went to a really lovely concert there featuring BettySoo, Michael Fracasso, Bob & Wendy. Looking forward to stopping by when it’s open for browsing.
Open Saturdays – Friendly and informative! Check them out!
It’s okay when it’s actually open
This place is NEVER NEVER NEVER OPEN SO DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME GOING THERE. PITIFUL WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS
Wish it was open more days than one, that’s ridiculous. Wish the woman up front wasn’t passive aggressive. There isn’t passion or inspiration in that place anymore. I’d say let the legacy move on and shut it down. I’m guessing a family member took over after he passed away. But the way its ran is like a burden more than a legacy. Sorry to say
