Great music shop with helpful and knowledgeable people.
I got my first classical guitar here and the people working here were super helpful and patient! Very happy with my purchase 🙂
Very helpful associates!!
Needed a Martin repaired. Good diagnosis and explained options. Guitar delivered 3 weeks before promised. Fair price. Job well done. I recommend them.
The place to go for guitars.
Racist place, never go their. To much hate!
Don’t have the guitar I wanted
Worker’s are verry disrespectful
4. Stanford Jazz Workshop
Address: Braun Music Center, 541 Lasuen Mall, Stanford, CA 94305 , Stanford , California , United States
Larry is very skillful and trustworthy. He fixed my son’s violin quickly and in very high-quality. You can trust Larry to repair your valuable instrument with any problems. Thanks Larry!
Had a very old violin that I needed info on. Did a great job of inspecting it and determining its origin. Man is extremely knowledgeable, expert in his field.
My daughter broke the tip of her bow and the gentleman at Palo Alto Violins kindly and promptly fixed it for a reasonable price. It works as promised. Well done! Thank you!
One of my students had an extremely negative experience shopping for their instrument at Palo Alto violins. Larry made racially charged comments to them about the kind of customers that he liked and they warned me to remove him from my list of vendors.
As far as know, this is the only store which sells professional grade brass intruments in the silicon valley. I tried several cornets and bought a Getzen Eterna here. I have been quite satisfied with both the intruments and thestore.
This place is good if you have a high end musical instrument. I went in to repair my sons trumpet and they basically told me that they wouldn’t service it because it wasn’t a high end thousand dollar instrument. Too bad, I was actually looking to buy him a new intermediate trumpet for his birthday here in the next few months but they will not be getting my business.
Steve Boughman went out of his way to degrade and mistreat me. The man was incredibly rude and condescending when he tried to sell me a saxophone in poor condition. Worst experience I have ever had in a music store. Disappointed and ashamed as a local musician that these are the types of repair people we have to deal with. Take your business ANYWHERE else.
8. Music Box Repair and Restoration
Address: 605 Wallea Dr, Menlo Park, CA 94025 , Stanford , California , United States
I have been taking lessons with New Mozart School of Music for about 7 months and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Teacher Maria has helped me rekindle my love for music and taught me new ways to practice and approach multiple different genres. I would recommend this school for new and continuing students of music.
My son, now 6+, has been taking music lessons through New Mozart since he was 3. New Mozart’s program of group lessons for the young age groups through music in me and Harmony Road are excellent for young kids, teaching them to have fun with music as much as teaching them about music itself. New Mozart teaches the children not just the playing of the assigned pieces, but encourage the children to learn all aspects of each piece (simple music theory, keys, patterns), as well as compose their own pieces–from the earliest age! My son loved all his teachers of the early group classes; he is now enjoying private classes at New Mozart with teacher Herman, who is clearly attuned to my son’s abilities and interests. I am really impressed with this music school.
We are so happy to find New Mozart School of Music! Our daughter absolutely loves to her piano class with Teacher Maria, who is extremely kind and patient with her and keep motivating her to practice piano, enjoy music and love music. The staff is very responsible and helpful as well, just hoping there are more resting seats for the parents and students who need to wait for their classes 🙂
My daughter has been taking piano lessons at New Mozart for the past two years; she started when she was 5. She also took voice lessons for one year with teacher Diane who is excellent (she only dropped because she had too many other commitments, not because she didn’t enjoy lessons with Diane). We’ve had a positive experience with both teachers and fortunately my daughter still enjoys practicing and playing piano at home. My only complaint is that they are very strict on their make-up lesson policy (you are allowed at most 1-2 make-up lessons and only if the child was absent because she/he was sick). The policy proved to be very inflexible for us especially when other commitments came up.
12. Starbucks
Address: 459 Lagunita Dr, Stanford, CA 94305 , Stanford , California , United States
The place is very crowded, but staff is working really fast.
Almost always a line. The staff functions as a well oiled machine. If something isn’t right, tell them but tell them quickly and succinctly because they have no time to waste. Use the app to order ahead if you can
It’s a Starbucks on campus. The only time I really ever go is in the morning before it gets crowded.
busy with all the students! alive with energy!
Sehr voll – gewohnte Starbucks Qualität. Sitzen drin und draußen großzügig. Zum Teil sehr schmutzig.
They are supposed to open at 6:30am and just told me they won’t be opening until 7:30. I wouldn’t be as upset if there wasn’t an employee there for 10 minutes on his phone not letting me know they they were not going to be opening on time.
Waiting 20 minutes for a drink
Not opened on Saturday morning
13. Moment Musical
Address: 855 El Camino Real Ste 13A-308, Palo Alto, CA 94301 , Stanford , California , United States
One whole huge floor full of some amazing Stanford merch and a wide variety of stationary and books. Slightly on the pricy side.
So many things to choose from
책보다도 의류 등 기념품이 많아요
The cafe inside does not have many choices, but it is good.
紀念品
The bookstore itself is fine, but the staff’s manner was horrible. I took my mom to visit there and she was not confident in speaking English so I was with her to greet the staff when we checked out. However, the staff didn’t care at all whatever I answered. It’s like she just said whatever she was trained to do and did not respond to me at all. And I have no idea why she slowed down her speed of talking to a level that annoyed me so much as if she had to do so otherwise we wouldn’t understand. (I admit we aren’t native speakers but I’m resident here and I’m comfortable with English). As part of the university, I thought the bookstore would welcome foreigners as much as the university, but apparently we didn’t experience that. It’s a very disappointing experience.
I can’t go in there….
Ordered something online for a Christmas gift. Order got cancelled due to out of stock. Website still says in stock. Called during business hours. No answer. Left a message with contact info. No response. Tried calling and leaving a message again. No response. Filled out a “contact us” form on the website. No response. Website still says in stock.
Will edit review if Stanford Bookstore chooses to respond to me after reading this review.
This place has extremely poor customer service. Never seen someone so keen not to sell something before.
18. School of Rock
Address: 2645 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94306 , Stanford , California , United States
The kids love coming over; ‘rookies’ for orientation until they turn 7 and ‘rock 101’ in band format after
I love this place for my 9-year-old. School of Rock is serious about Rock and serious about Fun!
My daughter looks forward to rehearsals and lessons, and is working on great music!
Great folks!
My child has been taking lessons for over almost 2 years now. He started with drums and electric guitar recently.
They helped him develop genuine interest in music, and so he looks fwd to practicing at home.
A few days back spoke to a gentleman, may be not so much of a “Gentleman”, about the program, fees, and policies over all. It was a turn off. May be I caught him on a bad day. One star because I only spoke to him and the way he explained to made me think, I should find another place. Seems very inflexible place especially if you have young kids.
Love the place. Great teachers! But I am shocked by how insensitive the Eric at front desk could be. I understand that the No show policy is tough because they have to pay the teachers. Yes I get it. But the way he relays is “No matter if you die or kid dies or any one dies in the family, there is nothing we can do about it”. Shhh! Chill!!
May be don’t give him front desk duties if he can’t handle people. I feel very sorry for the owner or management of this place.
What a morbid and insensitive way to communicate.
I am disappointed with our experience at this place. Here are the reasons why:
1. The class neglects to teach fundamental music concepts such as notes and rhythm to the kids. This lack of foundation is a significant drawback.
2. Rather than gradually introducing beginners to these basics, they immediately thrust them into rehearsals with more advanced children. This approach is demotivating for newcomers who are still learning.
3. My child expressed a clear disinterest in attending these classes, which is a testament to their dissatisfaction.
4. As parents with limited musical knowledge, we attempted to supplement at home with various apps, but it became evident that children need proper instruction and practice in the basics before tackling complex songs.
We provided this feedback to the teacher on multiple occasions, but they merely suggested that we encourage our child to practice at home, without addressing the core issues.
This dissatisfaction has persisted through the third class, and when we requested a cancellation, nobody showed any interest in understanding or rectifying the situation.
If you are seeking a beginner’s music institute for your child, I would strongly advise looking elsewhere, as this place does not meet those needs.
19. CoHo
Address: 459 Lagunita Dr, Stanford, CA 94305 , Stanford , California , United States
What can I say about Coho you ask? Not only do they have the sweetest staff, but they have the best selection of donuts ever! For every occasion too! Want to celebrate a good day? Grab yourself a vegan chocolate donut! Failed a chem midterm? Me too, but no worries the Coho Donuts made me feel better! 10/10 recommend the best spot on campus to meet with friends or for taking yourself out on a nice date 🙂
Coho has great sandwiches and paninis. The cubano and any of the salads are good buys. Theyre flavorful and make a good lunch.
Good mocha. Ask for your cookie heated up!
We came to this place to have a lunch on a sunday afternoon. The place has cozy sits inside, as well as tables outside.
We ordered chorizo empaladas and ham panini. We totally paid around 25 usd. The food came fast and was served on real plates, which is always a pleasure, no plastic waste. However, empaladas turned out to be with chicken so we had to ask for a change.
Panini was good, also served with a small salad. I did not like the taste of empaladas much, but it was my first time trying them, not sure how they should taste.
Overall this is a nice place, very atmospheric interior, full of students. Can definately recommend visiting it.
Long waiting time despite the fact that most of the (way too expensive) food is coming out of the microwave.
Irresponsible
Recently the Americanos seem to be extra watered down.
i ordered a sandwich and drink today. the sandwich wasn’t toasted, and the salad was completely wilted. Not acceptable for a $16 order.
20. Gelb Music
Address: 722 El Camino Real, Redwood City, CA 94063 , Stanford , California , United States
Friendly staff and good selection of keyboards for demo without pressure to buy
after not coming into the shop for 8 years, they still knew my name and were as courteous as ever. I use Gelb as my main music shop. the staff in all of the departments are knowledgeable and helpful.
A great place to find good instruments
Good choice of instruments, not a lot of parking. The staff is not very nice at all.
Great customer service. Big instrument selection.
Good
should be gleb, not gelb.
You guys have a lot of overpriced and outdated merchandise. Go to Guitar Center where you get the most out of every dollar.
As someone who has been going to Gelb since I was a teenager all I have to say is “Please make it go away”.
What was once a well known piece of the music community of the bay area has become totally useless.
What was once a family of musicians active in the local music scene is now the Kmart of music stores, disorganized…impersonal…just another guitar store.
A couple of weeks ago I went there to get a couple of packs of strings and they couldn’t find them???
Today I went in to see if they had a couple of guitar boxes to ship a guitar I was selling, in the past the response was sure how many do you need, today the response was “We sell them for $15”, if they had said 5$ sure but $15? what exactly am I paying for? your stellar customer service?
Since the change this place has steadily gone downhill, please just let it go, make it go away, or at least change the name so you aren’t tarnishing the name of what was once an institution of the bay area music scene.
