Kind and patient. Daphne works at your pace while gently moving her students further. Not only is my daughter playing beautifully, she has learned the theory and history behind the music.
Highly recommend!
I’ve personally heard the instructor, Daphne Dawson, in both lesson & recital (apparently she does church events now too?!?), and her skill is absolutely unmatched. I’m not sure how else to put it, but she dances over the panio keys like an artist! I can’t tell where the piano begins and the pianist ends.
Without a doubt, I’d recommend her to anyone!
Mrs. Danielson is an amazing teacher! I have learned so much from her over the years and she has helped me excel in piano and achieve my music goals.
3. Groovy Records
Address: 212 N Woodland Blvd, DeLand, FL 32720 , West DeLand , Florida , United States
This place is a throwback to the neighborhood record shop. Their collection of vintage albums was so cool! I’ll be back!
Best selection. Coolest owner I have met. Say hi to big doggie behind the counter. Big big selection of everything vintage
Not very welcoming …
Incredibly rude staff, impolite and unhelpful. I don’t want to down play their selection of titles, which are priced reasonably enough for the average shopper to pick up one or two records. But why would I want to with such a repugnant attitude from the staff and store owner. I asked a simple question, wondering whether a particular item was for sale, and I was greeting with a cold and blunt “no”. The employees are not personable whatsoever, which is a shame as there were plenty of things I would have purchased. One older employee rudely went on an entire diatribe about how I wasn’t allowed to look through at least 80% of the store’s CD selection without his supervision, or else I would “mess things up”. Why would I want to spend anytime in a store being babysat while I look through music? I’ll sum this up by saying, I don’t usually go out of my way to write negative reviews, but man this store deserves it. Sarcastic sympathy is the nicest treatment customers will receive here. It’s a shame, I used to enjoy shopping here every time I came to Florida on vacation for the past five years, now that I live here I never want to go in again. Too many bad experiences, thankfully there’s literally another record store not even 5 minutes from this waste of time.
Overpriced
I looked at the good reviews, smiled, and said this is going to be my to go record shop. Boy, was I wrong. The owner is extremely disrespectful and has some sort of anger issues. Yes Jerry, I’m talking about you. I went to Steve’s down the road and super friendly staff over there with great knowledge and positive energy. I chose to purchase all my records there. Music is all about just chilling out and having an overall great vibe. I wish he could’ve provided that but instead he called my generation “lazy” and the poor woman behind him looked scared to even be around that lunatic. Take pride in your business and don’t humiliate others.
4. Tom Cipriani Guitar Studio
Address: 107 W Wisconsin Ave, DeLand, FL 32720 , West DeLand , Florida , United States
I’ve purchased the Sir Robin pedal from Chellee Guitars and am so glad I did! It’s the first pedal that I’ve purchased that does what it’s supposed to do. It’s the real deal and I’m going back for more pedals. I also had much work done on my guitars and won’t take them anywhere else from now on . Next step is to buy one of the Chellee guitars!!!
Excellent and fast, he made time for an emergency repair before a gig.
I was searching online for a local Luthier and Chellee Guitars kept appearing, with great reviews, so I took my Strat there for a setup. The online appointment system was a breeze. Peter is a very knowledgeable and took the time to listen to my concerns and asked me the necessary questions to provide me with the best setup. The Strat plays much better. I’ll definitely be using him for my future business.
7. Angels Thrift Shop
Address: 642 New York Ave W, DeLand, FL 32720 , West DeLand , Florida , United States
I love this store. Staff is great, store is well organized and merchandise is clean. Its a wonderful charity.
Best thrift store in the Deland area! Packed with cheap treasures! Most importantly they support Journeys End Animal Sanctuary. Lovely staff!
This is definitely a true thrift store with awesome prices. It has hidden treasures with in. The staff is friendly. I took my husband and he ended up getting a couch, a recliner, an ottoman, and he can’t wait to go back.
Everyone was super nice. I accidently reopened the large scrape on my toe and the cashier offered and gave me a bandaid. Nice stuff with good prices. I would have given 5 stars but it was unbelievable ridiculously hot inside! I was sweating and nauseated by the time I left!
Good prices on baby stuff. Not a lot of things that would be interested in. I bought a high chair for $5
Some of the associates were constantly acting as if I was in their way. I was attempting to find a gift for someone special and it was a little frustrating. I did find some nice items, however a few of them I put back after noticing some damage. The woman at the register was sweet and checked the tv I purchased for me. I would be unlikely to go back.
Nothing but junk and the person working was vsry rude wouldn’t let my dead mother shop here
Great prices and very nice things in the store.I paid for delivery and made them aware the things needed to go upstairs and we would help.I recieved several texts asking if I wanted to change the date and time I said no let’s get this done. I received more texts asking about who would help.Everything on my end is ready for delivery. The driver asked if he could leave my things outside because he would not help bring my things upstairs. My daughter said the least you can do is help get things inside the front door. The dresser fell apart when he took it off the truck. He took his fist and banged it back together and left. After payment of a chair and a children’s dresser and paying for delivery everything went left.I am very unhappy with the damaged dresser and the attitude after after my money left my hands and went to theirs.
Inexplicably closed an hour and 15 minutes early on a Saturday just as we pulled up to the store. One of the employees sat outside and smoked as she turned people away.
8. PianoDrumsGuitar.com Deland & Orange City
Address: 445 S Kepler Rd, DeLand, FL 32724 , West DeLand , Florida , United States
We had a great experience here with Jacen and Jay learning piano and drums. He progressed so quickly and we are extremely busy so it was hard to find time to practice, but they found ways to challenge him and help him along and I could not have asked for better teachers. Thank you for all you do!
Very patient and supportive with his students. My child loves going to practice!
I have been taking my 5 yr old here for piano for 8 weeks and I can’t believe the results. Excellent instructor and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this instructor for any of your music needs.

Love coming in here to bother Q he always takes care of me
Franchesca is the BEST glad she is back!
Both Jeff and Franchesca are the most awesome managers of any we’ve ever met. Will be back for more fantastic customer service!
it’s a nice place only thing I’ll say is there customer service is all business they’re not really that sociable I think their prices are kind of high
I live over an hour away and came to this location because my sister works there and I wanted to buy a couple of tools. Unfortunately, the guy with the dreads, I think his name is Q, was part of the “welcoming crew” closest to the door. I don’t know if he was having personal issues or is just insecure, but he became very rude and unprofessional once he realized that I wasn’t there to do business with him. Not sure why his behavior is tolerated.
What a pleasant experience! Pawn shops often get a bad rap. This is not your typical pawn shop. Staff members were kind, friendly, and full of useful information. The prices are fair and upfront. I will visit again.
Sold me a fake chain and claimed it was real
I would describe my experience, but the story s well too long, but story short, they planned on keeping my moms item with a price tag wrapped inside for triple the amount she got a loan for. I say that because, they made it so difficult for her to retrieve her item, they couldn’t find it with just her id and even when we went all the way home to get it, they still couldn’t…. until they typed in her name backwards… like really deland pawn shop. It just seemed very off and suspect. Do not deal with this place. its definitely scammersville lmao
I went to buy some jewelry and my son was planning to buy a vintage radio. But I asked to go to the restroom and one employee with a spanish name and of course Latin woman , said no. She doesnt deserve the position, I feel embarrassed, because I’m From Puerto Rico, but I’m professional and I have a good attitude. I ran and left this place, They don’t care about the costumer. Horrible customer service. I also asked about one ring and they don’t know what stone it has in it. Runnnnnn far from this place. Overall just horrible I will not be returning any time soon.

5 th car they have tinted for me and awesome as always
Ken was friendly and professional. He additionally was very helpful in making a good choices for my business vehicle without any pressure.
Had a problem with a Pioneer system I bought up north before moving back to Florida. Spent a lot of time trying to figure out my glitch and finally gave up. Called Ken and he said to drop off my truck and they would try and figure it out. Well long story short they figured it out and I was obviously thrilled. Super knowledgeable people and a real professional atmosphere. I will go back in a heart beat. I was lucky to stumble upon them being new to the area. Please give them a try for
your car audio/tint and custom work. They are great
great help
Tinted my windows. Did ok job. I think it’s hard to get windows done perfect.
Ken did a great job on Wifey’s Prius years ago, was getting prices on audio upgrade
Not happy with the job they did with the speakers in my car.
Overpriced their work called and asked about price and couldn’t give a quote…
Had a CD deck installed there, cracked my dash during the install, told me to order a new one on eBay a and they would put it in for free, no discount.I have Bose speakers in the car about 8 total. After a couple months I noticed only the 4 door speakers were connected and no soound was coming from my rear 6x9s or tweeters, I figured it was the only way that the speakers could be connected to an aftermarket deck. Eventually I decided to take a look myself. I hooked up an old Sony deck I had from a previous car and boom every speaker worked with incredible sound. A huge difference. I looked at the back of my new deck I boughtforom them and noticed half the wires weren’t connected. Also noticed they left my hazard lights and the lights for my shifter disconnected, I just thought my cars hazards were broken but nope they just were lazy and didn’t reconnect them after the install. An absolutely half Ass job if I ever saw one. You would be wise to take your business elsewhere.
11. West Volusia Habitat For Humanity in DeLand
Address: 604 Spg Gdn Ave S, DeLand, FL 32720 , West DeLand , Florida , United States
Great store and friendly staff! They have a good, rotating selection of everything imaginable— and fair prices. The new layout of the store is really great. To find what you need sometimes you have to check often.
I love this store and the volunteers.
I had a donation that I was trying to get picked up (fridge) and after getting frustrated by a couple organizations and assuming Restore was not an option (ours closed in Sanford)…found this store. Jazmyn was the person who helped me and honestly, one of the nicest, most helpful friendly people I’ve dealt with on any issue in some time. They’re getting my donation, easy peasy and super thankful too. Best experience.
Nice place but really crowded
Overpriced.
I found some great stuff at great deals
It’s really sad when you want to do the right thing and donate to what is a good cause, but you get the feeling that hey could care less if they get items or not. I called and explained that I had a large dinning table, with china hutch, and misc house and construction items to donate. The lady I spoke with asked if this could be handle by one person and I said, no that they would need to send 2. Only 1 person showed up and he was only told about the table and china hutch. Said that the top piece had to be off of the base since he was by himself. I explained that I told the lady they would need to send 2 people. Even offered to help take the item off and then he advised that he didn’t even have room in his truck for either piece. Said he would come back on Sat. Morning to pick it up. I advised that would be fine, since I had to have it out by Tuesday. Finally received a call at 11:50 on Saturday that he would not be able to pick up since he did not have anyone to help him. Said he could try for Monday or Tuesday, but if he did not have a helper, could not guarantee. SUGGESTION FOR HABITAT- DO NOT SAY YOU CAN OR WILL DO SOMETHING WHEN YOU CAN’T. (Your not even open on Monday!)
Used to be you could get great deals there. Not so much lately. Sometimes cheaper to buy items new elsewhere for less money. If you are looking for some place to drop items instead of filling a landfill they are great for that, and will come pickup larger items for no charge.
Not even worthy of a star, omg nasty and unorganized, not to mention the stench of dead rats. There was probably 10 ppl in there working and at least 6 customers said the same thing how disgusting the smell was. Prices are ridiculous over 300.00 for a used stove, 400 for a hutch, 25 for 4 ceiling fan blades. Unbelievable there is no reason for that amount of money on items in deland hole in the wall. Never again will I go there.
12. Pinkies Resale Shop
Address: 720 S Woodland Blvd, DeLand, FL 32720 , West DeLand , Florida , United States
Great local bookstore. Located in downtown DeLand.
Old time book store with a wonderful owner. Janet can help with anything. She knows Deland very well too.
A great store! The owners are very nice, they also have the cutest parrot ever in there. If your looking for a nice relaxing place to collect some old books then this is the place, theres also a really nice coffeeshop near by called the boston coffeeshop that is worth a visit.
Enjoyed looking at the books, and found 2 I really liked. It was a nice experience.
Support local bookshops! Great selection and location.
Used to be extremely good for antique books, now focuses more on modern and Floridians based stiff
Owner made me extremely uncomfortable and angry when he told my boyfriend he should have better control over me and my spending. The man said my boyfriend should be correcting me and putting me in my place. Nice way to make sure we never come back.
Walked in and the fellow behind the counter made no effort to acknowledge me. No, “Welcome,” “Hello,” etc. pretty poor customer service….and the price of the one book I was interested in was ridiculously expensive.
14. James Music
Address: 104 E Indiana Ave, DeLand, FL 32724 , West DeLand , Florida , United States
Great experience, great staff. Prices not bad, as well as products. Will come back time and time again.
Lots of inventory, great service!
The gentlemen, whose name is David, was very very helpful. I find him to be very knowledgeable about string instruments and he is always willing to share his knowledge with others.
If you’re looking for a shopping “experience” when buying an instrument, this isn’t the place for you. But if you need a specific part, string, or accessory, this store will probably have that hard-to-find item, and at a lower price than other stores. The owner is friendly and will find what you need. Don’t judge by appearances… I went from store to store in DeLand looking for a 1/8 size violin bridge and this was the only place that had it!
I don’t understand what John Barnes is talking about. I stopped by here for some strings and picks, he had a great selection of guitars and amps at reasonable prices.
Plus a repair shop. I spoke with David he was knowledgeable. Although it’s no guitar center super store if you need guitarist things he has all the basics most smaller stores have.
Not sure about the quality for guitars. For brass and woodwind instruments only go for begginers. I went for a large shank, 4g mouthpiece for my bass trombone. He said he had never heard of a 4g and that large shank is uncommon (it’s really not). But if you just need a 6.5 AL for a begginer, it will be fine.
Owner seems very interested in anything at all I wish he would just close the store if he hated so much I wouldnt buy a pick there
If I could rate DeLand Discount Music 1/2 stars, I would. Where to begin? The place resembles a hoarder’s home. You need to see this calamity to truly understand. There are stacks of new and used (mostly used) equipment stacked from floor to ceiling. There is barely room to even navigate through this mess. Oh, and don’t be a fool and ask the salesman (I believe he’s the owner) a question or price. He is downright rude, and acts as if HE is doing YOU a favor, by taking time out of constant eating schedule. And you know…I keep going back. I’m a big fan of vintage synthesizers. There are actually some cool items strewn around the store. But his rudeness stops the deal in it’s tracks. Avoid at all costs!
Went in to buy a guitar. Left without one after being treated rudely.
